Rihanna’s New Album Cover – Wow or Eww?
November 9, 2009 in Rihanna, Wow or Eww? by Versus

Rihanna’s got a new single cover out and it looks… topless.
Any fans of “Wait Your Turn” Single Cover? Or is it a little (or a lot)… trashy?
Rihanna’s New Album Cover – Wow or Eww?
Let’s hear it!

I find it cool…
me too.
its so trashy
I AGREE!
I like it. It has a raunchiness to it that I really like. Of course other women are going to bring it down as a pathetic attempt to reinforce their oppressed views on morality.
“Of course other women are going to bring it down as a pathetic attempt to reinforce their oppressed views on morality”
Women can’t dislike this picture without their views being considered pathetic or oppressed? What kind of statement is that? You’re implying you don’t consider their opinions valid – which sounds more like oppression than whatever you were saying. I don’t think it’s a question of the morally suppressed (that’s ridiculous – we’re not medieval or brainwashed) I think it’s just each to their own and we shouldn’t try and undermine eachother’s opinions.
. . . moving on. I could really careless about what you think.
then why did you replay………?
. . . I was merely giving her the courtesy/satisfaction of knowing that I viewed her comment.
Because she/ he isn’t articulate or intelligent enough to actually back up a point and would rather make offensive sweeping generalisations?
But it was amusing nevertheless, so I can’t complain…
Seriously right, i love when people have to say I don’t care what you think, because it really shows how much you really “don’t” care. Who the hell even brought up morality, it’s not like anyone implied anything about her character based on her outfit. We live in a day an age where being scantily clad really isn’t much of an issue, nor is it as looked down upon. Hell, I’ve seen classy looking playboy editorials that I think look better than this cover. But just because I think it looks trashy doesn’t mean that I nor anybody else have some sort of oppressive mentality. Maybe some people just find fish nets and ripped jeans trashy.
Shoot, I would say I’m a lot of things but oppressive is not one of them, yet her cover still makes me go, “Ugh.”
I am all for women embracing their sexuality. I see nothing wrong when a woman choses to use her body to get fame and fortune; why shouldn’t she if she was blessed with the genes? I just happen to think there is a right way and a wrong way of doing it.
Adriana Lima = right way. She sells her body image yet still remains a respectable individual and seperates her personality from her career. Rihanna = wrong way. To me, she appears to be more like someone who has issues that would best be resolved in a psychologist’s office rather than someone who is just trying to make a living. I wouldn’t be surprised if she did have issues considering her last relationship, and that may not be her fault, but it’s certainly not something that I would praise and put on a pedestal.
Does that make me oppressive? I don’t think so unless you have a different definition of oppressive than I do.
I agree with you here Casey. This cover is, I don’t know, it doesn’t make me think “I’m an empowered woman that is proud of my body and sexuality”, to me she looks like she feels threatened by something we can’t see off camera. I don’t know, maybe that fits with the themes of the songs in the album or something, I honestly don’t listen to her music so I don’t know how much of her image is part of her songs and how much of it is just a reflection of how she feels deep down, but lately she has come off as more “cry for help” than “I am proud”. IMO.
If it makes you feel any better, your pathetic attempt to come across as obliviously fatuous was a triumphant success.
Anyone who tries to connect others’ perceived beliefs of (im)morality to something as trivial as an album cover is blindly grasping at straws.
Yawnnnn. I get it- popstars like to take their clothes off. Get some originality please.
I wouldn’t expect anything less.
it’s cool
It’s nice, follows the current, ripped jeans and fishnets with the waistline visible. It lacks soul, feeling IMHO, but i don’t really pay that much attention to album covers..
not so crazy about it, her face looks like grace jones tho (in this photo).
I’m not a fan
A second rate Grace Jones impersonation. It looks so manufactured and unoriginal.
I agree, Talentless woman, Can’t do much else than try to look “Shocking/Sexy”
Third that
Fourth that
I agree. This has become highly expected from her. Her “shock” attempts are just now the norm. I’d be more shocked if she revealed an elegant side.
I noticed that. Why is everyone doing Grace Jones lately? Beyonce has been ripping her off. Then it was Ciara, now someone else I guess? Is there no one else who has ideas worth mining??
Nothing new. We’ve already seen her bits about 10 times prior to the cover, thanks to her new found see-through style.
For anyone else who didn’t regularly dress like that it might have been cool or edgy, for her, boring and trashy. To me it just screams, “Look at me look at me I took my top off! Please buy my album now!”
LOL! Totally agree!
me too!
It’s standard. A liiittle trashy I suppose but with celebrities we’re so inundated with the scantily clad that I don’t think this is shocking in the slightest.
To KG:

Woah the PC went a little crazy there.
So contrived I actually laughed.
It’s a little bit trashy…Not so much, but a little. I know some people will defend the cover, saying that it’s “art.” What makes something that’s “artistic” less trashy than something that isn’t? What makes a photograph of a nude woman less acceptable than an “artful” painting. Sure, there’s a difference between tasteful and trashy, but it’s my personal opinion that nudity (not that this is nudity or anything) shouldn’t be on album covers . . . Let’s leave that to the actresses and porn stars, no?
Perhaps it’s just my overwhelming dislike of Rihana . . . I’d have to see a similar cover by another artist to be sure if I actually feel that way.
Eh, Idk, it’s just a picture. I’ve seen much trashy-er pictures.
idk, it looks like she was going for edgy. It just look…idk it dosen’t look like anything.
It’s nothing special, in my opinion. But idk.
If she was going for edgy, she totally missed the mark. She tries waay too hard in my opinion. I’m so bored and sick of her “look at me” attempts. Yawn.
is it supossed to imply some kind of gang rape? because thats what i get out of it. just like, her position, and “wait your turn”, all add up to gang rape and i find that super offensive…unless im totally confused at the meaning of the picture..
umm..lol! idk if you were being serious, but i don’t think that’s the purpose. maybe the pick and the text are referring to the media craze, one part of being a star is people are trying to get something out of you.. and then she just took her shirt of b/c it looks more sexy. or b/c she’s “baring her soul” to the world.. ahem, well those were just a few suggestions.
ew.
not even just trashy. I don’t like that whole edgy element she’ got going on.
Objectively speaking, it looks like the scene from a gang bang porn film. The exotic seductress putting her would-be fornicating partners in line … as in ‘wait your turn, dammit!’
lol
i don’t like it at all – I know shes growing up and experimenting with her look but Rihanna is one of the prettiest girls out there, and i’m not a fan of her current look.
I liked her orginal look (beautiful long curls) but i realise she was only about 18 then, i also liked the look she had around the time of the umbrella song and that was a bit more edgy and sexy.
It’s funny (for the type of site this is) that hardly anyone has commented on her actual body–it looks good! I guess nobody thinks she looks too fat/thin, which is weird for this site because that’s what the comments are usually about…
I’ve been thinking that maybe if celebrities are in good shape we don’t have much to talk about here except the implications of people’s clothes? Just a thought.
Well, as for her body, I don’t like it. She is a pear shape and it is unattractive on her.
I think they photoshopped her tummy and waist..she has a flat tummy but her waist was never that small in any pic I have ever seen for her..taken by the paparazzi..
actually,I always thought her waist was kinda big…
I do not find her attractive
I used to like Rihanna, she was a pretty girl next door kind of person. But now…first she decides to go a little bit edgy for her “good girl gone bad” and now she’s stripping and going out in see through clothes? Blah, seems desperate and the picture is bad (ugly wise).
Eww … fail trashy look
I wouldn’t call it trashy since topless celebs are kind of a norm…but she definitely looks scary here and I’m not a big fan.
the sexy/runchy thing seems a little forced…and seeing her in ripped clothing and stuff I can’t help but think she’s been attacked or something…it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth!!!
And could she please get rid of this haircut?
out of all the nice photo’s she takes she chose this unflattering photo of herself…def not a fan of this photograph. she could do much better.
I think this cover is gorgeous. Only open-minded people can understand this look.
Excuse me? “Wait Your Turn?” as a topless woman protectively covers her naked breasts while her jeans look torn and pulled down. Because it’s Rihanna and cast in gorgous lighting the image itself looks beautiful but really it’s glamourizing rape. Considering Rihanna was a victim of physical violence I would think that she would not want to sexualize violence against women (as so many ads and videos do). I hate that this is considered ‘sexy’ and I wish she and her management team had taken a stand and shown us what a beautiful, empowered woman looks like. What a disappointment.
I agree with the commentor before me. When I looked at this photo, I immediatly thought of rape and that she is protecting herself from an attacker… I don’t see how this conveys a strong woman or heathly sexuality in any way. It terribly unfortunate, especially because she is a victim of violence, as it feels like a slap in the face to women who go through this every day and wanted to look to her as a role model but now it seems as if she is glamourizing rape.
omg…it’s too much,even for her…girl,u lost your t-shirt somewhere…!but I like that R sign,it’s cool…
