Victoria Beckham: YES to Salads, NO to Hamburgers
November 20, 2009 in Victoria Beckham by Versus

Forever skinny Victoria Beckham finally revealed to Allure Magazine a thing or two about what she’s eating.
On her diet:
‘I’m not going to lie – I’m not one of those people that says, “Oh, I eat hamburgers.”
‘I eat salad. And I start off every day with a double espresso. Then I get on the running machine and I run like a bat out of hell.’
On her skin tone:
‘I don’t self-tan anymore. It’s frustrating when people criticize my colour. It’s the colour that I am. I wear sunblock, but I live in a hot climate.’
I don’t know what to say about her diet & workout quotes. Being active and eating salads is great obviously, but she sounds a little… strict and “tense”.

Well… at least she is honest?
Salads are tasty. No crime in that.
Yeah they are – but they don’t offer that much sustenance. Salad is fantastic, but in order to healthy you should be including a much bigger variety of stuff.
I don’t think running on a treadmill whilst fuelled by nothing but a double espresso sounds all that healthy either.
That being said, I really do admire her for being honest. This way women won’t get the wrong idea – if you want to be ultra slim. Then there’s a lot of hard work and sacrifice (including optimal health).
Yeah, at least she’s honest; I doubt she even remembers what a burger tastes like.
Lol. I agree.
You can still be thin and eat burgers or sweets, just in moderation. And maybe she eats breakfast after her run. It’s not good to eat before. Your body can’t digest and exercise at the same timie. You will throw up. She seems obsessive and too strict. She would look better IMO with a little more weight.
I’m sorry this might sound mean…but she needs to eat hamburger for like a month see if she gains some weight!! Idk to me she doesn’t look good.
im glad she said that. i am so sick of hearing “i eat whatever i want, i dont really diet”
Yeah, but let’s face it – at least with most thin celebrities that’s plausible. But there’s no way a grown woman in her 30s (?) could eat normally and still look like that. She has the starved look, not the excercised look.
1—I hate when they say “oh I eat whatever I want and look this way”—bull!
2—She isn’t healthy if she has espresso and then works out for who knows how long and then just eats salads. Surely that’s not enough calories in the day and definitely not all of the food pyramid.
3–She doesn’t look good these days—I’m sorry.
4–Being skinny may look fabulous but being healthy and skinny and muscular is much better for the soul—look at Pink. Trust me, I’ve been there.
Oh–and she’s right about tanning. It’s ridiculous that we want to be dark one minute and our natural selves the next. Tanning does a number on the skin—this I know as well.
But what if some people really do eat anything and look thin? Are they not allowed to say anything then?
I doubt she is saying “all I eat is salad” she just said she doesn’t eat hamburgers and probably when she eats out she will order a salad instead of some other calorie laden crap like a hamburger
You can hate it all you want, but the fact is that a lot of people can eat whatever they want and stay thin.
I pity people like Posh spice. There is so much more to life than looking good and being thin, but she (and so many others) devote some much of their energy to maintaining a certain look. Certainly this is psychologically and physically draining. I geuss she’s lucky she doesn’t have bigger problems to contend with…
Totally agree. There’s much more to life than counting calories and obsessing over being thin! We need to be happy and eat what we want but not over do it. We need to enjoy each other and not obsess about how others see us.
i wouldn’t exactly say she’s lucky in any way. She obviously has a problem and this is problem is no better or easier than any other.
Self loathing isn’t a big problem??
Gosh, I love her. I think we all have characteristics about ourselves that we are excessively nit-picky about. I don’t necessarily agree with her diet and exercise, but she is fabulous nonetheless.
More like NO to salads, YES to burgers. Like, seriously. lol
and yes to high cholesterol!
like, seriously.
Haha I didn’t mean it as a lifestyle change, just a temporary way to gain weight! Plus if it’s grass-fed, organic beef it’s really healthy for you! Do some research…
I was going to say YES to Salads, and YES to Burgers!
I don’t like hamburgers either, but I’m beginning to wonder if she eats anything else besides salad and espressos.
Drinking an appetite suppressant in the morning, then working out, then eating salad while you look 90 pounds frightens me. Combined with her quote about how much being thin means to her, I can’t help but wonder if she is suffering from an ED.
Of course she has an eating disorder! Do you think someone can be that skinny (when we know she isn’t naturally this skinny) without an ED? I think just because she carries herself well people don’t assume she has an ED.
I agree with you Polly. A lot of people seem to think that people who suffer from eating disorders are somehow dysfunctional or something. That they are loners, or have problems in their lives…etc. In my experience working with ED patients, I found a lot of them to be charming, have good lives, are popular, and carry themselves well. Nothing about them says they have an eating disorder aside from low weight and a destroyed esophagus. Just because you’re rich, dress well, have kids and a husband doesn’t mean you’re not capable of having an eating disorder.
I like what shes wearing 1920s meets 1960. if only the pants were a bit tighter. shel look even hotter.
Well, i certainly do appreciate her for the honesty. And in an awkward way i respect her for being so strict and disciplined. Is it healthy? I have no idea, since she sometimes looks so fragile i’m afraid she’ll just fall apart. However, the fact that she admits that she does those efforts to stay thin probably shows she actually does not suffer from an ed, just that she has a different view on life (even though, i’m not sure how healthy a life statement such as happiness=being skinny is). Obviously i am contradicting myself, but i don’t want to judge her as she seems really aware of what she is doing and hopefully she has the situation under control.
Btw, i start my day with an espresso as well; coffee IS healthy if consumed in moderate quantities. I need it ofr my blood pressure, it’s really really low, and even my doctors admited it’s ok to handle it with coffee and green tea, rather than pills. However, i cannot but wonder does she eat ANYTHING else but salads? Because if she doesn’t,well that is definitely not a healthy approach on eating, and quite the opposite of balanced meals. And finally, i think she looks really cute in the photo posted, is it a recent photo? She seems less emanciated that when she is all dolled up.
Yes, the picture is recent – it was taken yesterday in London.
Um, I’m usually YES to hamburgers and NO to salad! That poor woman, never enjoying the simple pleasures of life every now and again
she’s always been tense. never looks happy or relaxed; kinda sad for her sake.
It would be good for all of us to choose salad instead of fast food. Of course this is not the only thing we should eat and its not the only meal she is eating. I know that because I met her in London eating brunch, and she had normal food.
I love hamburgers. I don’t think they are all that unhealthy. I love my burgers with lots of crunchy fresh veggies. I think it’s fine to indulge in a hamburger without all the fries and soda.
If you get them from McDonalds or the local kebab shop they are.
I love hamburgers too and they can be a substantial meal if you use lean grilled meat, wholemean baps, and serve it with a crunchy salad and jacket potato.
Even if you do get the greasier ones it’s fine to do so once in a while for a treat.
lean meat…lol learn something about nutrition. If you buy grass fed animals, the fat is the healthiest part. In fact, most of our calories should come from fat. Ohhh scandal!
I agree with you leslie! It drives me crazy when my boyfriend (who is also slim) asks me if the food we are eating is healthy, contains fat, cholesterol, salt…etc. Makes me want to smack him.
As if we are supposed to cut those things altogether out of our diet.
yayyy!! THANK YOU! This morning at work people were eating donuts, and this clearly out of shape guy chimes in “I’m not eating one. Do you know how much saturated fat is in one of those?!” LOL yaaa cuz the problem with a donut is the fat! I bit my lip, but it was hard!
Ha! If that was me I would jog over to the store, and then reward myself by a chocolate covered donut! Mmm. There is nothing wrong with consuming even the worst fats once in a while if you take care of yourself.
my thought was more that it’s the carbs in the donut that causes the problems, not the fat…
I don’t want to sound rude but wtf?? Are you an Atkins follower or something?
The majority of our calories should not come from fat. Meat is good for you because it has iron and protein, found in the actual flesh of the animal. No way is fat the healthiest part. We need fat for sure but you don’t need it in excess, hence why so many people put on weight; they consume more than they need.
And who said anything about cutting out salt, fat etc? Please, this girl loves her food, she’s just realistic about the health implications
i would consider myself more of a primal/paleo follower. Google “primal blueprint.” And yes, most calories should come from fat for optimum health.
i would consider myself more of a primal/paleo follower. Google it mark sisson if you are interested. And yes, most calories should come from fat for optimum health.
Eh – I think I’m going to have to disagree with that one but if you’re eating heathly fats rather than Saturated or trans fat then you’re not going to be doing any damage. Whatever works for you.
lol…I dunno how she does it seriously…maybe that’s the reason why she seems so mad all the time:she misses the good ol’ hamburgers….
I’m all for beeing healthy but eating salads everyday?not for me…there is a diversity of healthy food around so I wouldn’t deprive myself if I were her…at least she’s admitting her diet is strict and doesn’t say she’s naturally thin
that beeing said I love her shoes in the pic
I hate to say it. some people have to wake up early in the morning and go to the office from 9-5 as there job. victorias job is to look good and be “thin.” that’s her job as a celebrity. i personally think she looks better w/ a little meat on her but whatever. if she’s happy then she is happy. she is also married to an athlete so exercise and healthy eating is something she had to commit to when saying “i do”
I love her!
Her honesty and her ability to be that strict with all of the will power!
Sure it might not agree with some of us, but she is not dead and she is so successful. If she is happy, why not be happy for her? Jealous?
So it’s okay because she hasn’t died? Seriously?!
She definitely does sound strict and tense, I agree. I agree with other commenters too that it’s refreshing to hear a celeb be honest about diet. It would be much more annoying if she were as skinny as she is and pretended she ate whatever she wanted.
she is too thin but now we all know how she stays that thin she seriously needs to eat shes not a model she dont have to be that thin its not normal women are ment to have curves
it really irks the hell out of me when some liar of a thin celeb says shit like, “if i don’t eat ice cream every day, i’ll die!” yeah you prob haven’t eaten more than a spoonful in years. let’s not be liars ladies. at least she is honest that she is thin b/c she is unhealthy.
