Sara Rue Lost 50 Pounds!
August 5, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Then and Now by Versus

And thanks to her major weight loss, she abandoned her size 14 figure and now fits into a size 6. Let’s find out the details from People Magazine:
If you see Sara Rue on the street, chances are she’ll be smiling. That’s because the actress has lost 50 pounds since signing on as a spokesperson for Jenny Craig last December. “I have such a better relationship with food than I’ve ever had in my life,” Rue, 31, tells PEOPLE. “I’ve learned how to control portions, I’ve learned how to eat healthfully.” Best of all, she is enjoying exercise for the first time in her life. Rue, who used to just walk the dogs around the block, now regularly logs 45-60 minutes of cardio 5-6 days a week on the treadmill and is in training for her first half marathon. But her eight-month journey was not without its fair share of obstacles. “I spent the first few months of this program wearing my pedometer and getting in my 10,000 steps every day,” Rue says. “When I started running I would run for one minute and walk for ten. Now I can run for two-and-a-half hours straight. That’s insane! I never would have thought six months ago that I would be able to run that much.” Nor did she think she’d be enjoying another activity—shopping. “Barely squeezing into a size 14 when she embarked upon her weight loss journey, the 5’8” Rue is now a lean “size 6.” Busy planning a Spring 2011 wedding with her fiancé, teacher Kevin Price, Rue recently popped into Vera Wang in Beverly Hills to check out a 70 percent off sale. “I wandered to the back of the store where all the bride gowns were. The woman zipped it up and she had to clamp it in the back because it was too big,” Rue says, laughing. “It was just a great feeling.”

holy moly, she looks pretty hot. good for her, keeping healthy.
While she looks wonderful, I always wonder if they’ll be able to keep it off when they do a meal delivery diet. Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for her. But it’s not like Weight Watchers where you’re taught portion control
Should be interesting to see her 6 months from now. anyhow, she looks great!
Agree. Meal delivery is not realistic for the long-term. She looks gorgeous.
I agree as well, but truth be told, i’m not sure Weight Watchers are that realistic either. I know lots of people who go back to it again and again, it’s a dieter lifestyle, but they never get to a healthy weight for good. WW has them count points, and it’s easy to lose perspective over what’s sensible eating when you just go thinking, ok i can eat a banana since it’s this and this amount of points… Anyways, Sara looks great, i hope she’s learnt a healthy lifestyle honestly. That amount of exercise sounds a bit much for a relative newbie and it makes me wonder if it’s realistic for her for her whole life, not everyone can have such an active lifestyle without kinda striggling with it.
struggling
the secret of any diet is discipline. ww makes controling ur intake easier by giving points instead of kalorie numbers. so by time you will be able to kinda estimate the points of unknown or unlisted food and also learn to stick to veggies or fruit, as those are labeled with 0 points (thus=healthy). but if u give up that discipline of counting points, of course u’ll gain. i know a cpl of ppl indeed who are keeping their weight at a constantly low level.
yeah but the bigger question is what does work? the truth is most dieters fail long term. I can’t remember the exact statistics but its scary high like 90% or something, and the older you get the lower the rate. i guess thats why they want to target kids. the problem is everyone then jumped on the size zero bandwagon and the message got all mixed up. It should be about healthy eating, exercise, good habits, etc and not about size and looks.
never been on a diet- ie an eating progrma set out by someone else. i just cut down the junk when i want to lose weight, but the only people i know who ever lost the weight and kept it off, are into exercise big time, running marathons and stuff. Not advoctaing that(not a runner myself) just commenting.
I agree sort of, but the thing is now that she is thin and used to small portions she won’t be able to eat as much or go back to old habits, her stomach has shrunk.
If she used to eat for example 2 pizzas in one night and now she only eats half a pizza. Then there is no way that she can eat 2 whole pizzas again, it’ll make her sick and want to vomit.
Although it is still possible to gain if she stops eating healthy and starts eating only bad food and stops exercising. I’m pretty sure that without meal delivery she’ll be able to keep this weight on long term.
Anyways.. Good for her! She looks beautiful either way if you ask me, she’s lucky!
its surprisingly easy to expand ur stomach again
Okay for all of you people out there who have never been on Jenny craig let me set you straight…let me start off by saying I’ve lost 92 lbs with jenny and couldn’t have done it without the delish meals, amazing support system and abundance of knowledge they bestow upon us. Yes, you are right they start clients out on frozen or pantry jenny cuisine but once a client reaches their half way point they start eating a few meals on their own. And the plan is to learn portion control and the volumetrix system, which rocks by the way…so I’m never hungry and now eat mainly all meals on my own. I have to admit there are some jenny entrees I’d rather not live without. I now eat 1200 calories plus all the non starchy veggie I want and couldn’t be more satisfied! Friends and family keep asking how long I will be on jenny and when I reply for life they laugh. But seriously its not a fad diet, its an entirely new way of looking at food and having a great relationship with it…instead of trying to fill a void with food as many of us do, I’ve learned to use food to fuel my body and in turn I am able to live my life. And jenny craig has a separate part of the program for maintenance because they realize that losing the weight is only half the battle. When I get there I will be sure to post about it. But until then I want all of you to keep an open mind about weight loss in general…its a tough Journey and those of us who are lucky enough to be on that scary crazy trek need all the positive words and encouragement we can get.
i love it, good for her
thats just great!
Wow! She looks amazing! Good for her! It’s good to see she did it for the sake of health! We all know how hard it is to lose weight, and this girl did a terrific job of it.
WOOW! that’s a huge weight loss. good for her
wow cant believe the difference, she looks almost like a different person! Good for her, I always thought she has a very cute face
I don’t think anyone can say anything bad here. She’s made the most important choice: the choice to be healthy. And she looks hot as a result.
She looks adorable and cute when she was fat, now that she is skinny she just looks hot and sexy
She looks good both ways! But obviously she’s alot healthier now and that’s what matters.
Hi guys, can I ask you a question? She is a size 6.. Is 6 similar to european 36 (or S)? I just don’t get US sizes, ’cause every website says something else about this. I got a little scared when I realised that most celebrities has 0, does it mean they’re wearing size XXS or what?! So would you be so kind and explain it to me?
US size 6 is a UK 10 or a European 36
Size conversions always get kind of tricky, because every brand is different. A US 6 is usually about 34-35″ bush, 27-28″ waist and 37-38″ hips.
No, it is not. A EU size 34 will correspond to a US size 0 or 2, depending on the brand. I know conversion sites say otherwise, but that simply does not correspond to reality. A 6 US is EU 38-40 or M.
@vi: a EU36 is way smaller than a UK10
UK size 10 = US size 6 = EU 38 (as far as I’m aware).
As i was saying, technically, yes. But reality says otherwise.
I don’t know about EU sizes, but with UK sizes that it very true.
I buy a 0 in the US and a 4 in UK sizes.
sometimes the sizing conversion isnt accurate…im from australia and went to the us…im a size 8 here (us 4) and in about four shops in LA i was a size 2
she looks beautiful eith way but go her hope shes able to keep it off thats the hard part.
can sumone tel me if its an american 6 ??so what is that in the uk??
us 6 is about a UK 10
thank you:)
I think it’s actually more like a UK 12 with all the vanity sizing going on in the US.
I’m a UK size 8 and I usually wear a size 2 in American brands.
I am an 8 uk and 2 US mostly. but i think it depends where you go, some boutiques in new york the sizing was really tiny.
She looks really good- but that sounds like an awful lot of exercise to me? I hope she doesn’t burn herself out
. Good for her for taking a healthier route with food!
i don’t think it’s too much exercise..i mean, you don’t have to exercise that much to be considered healthy, but it sounds reasonable….especially if she is training for a half.
You only burn yourself out if you try to do that much exercise right off the bat, when you were completely sedentary before. It sounds like she slowly worked her way up to that level, so she should be fine.
And really, an hour or less a day of cardio is not that much. We think it is because most people today have sedentary jobs. 500 years ago it was perfectly normal for people to be doing moderate to rigorous exercise from dawn till dusk. The human body was designed to handle way more than 45 minutes of running a day.
Hmm, 500 years ago people didn’t consume enough calories for their rigorous lifestyles and died at a very young age. A lot of them were malnourished as well and it was rare for a man to be taller than 5’7″. I’ll go with my modern lifestyle and live to be at least 75.
thanks!
i saw this on people before i read it here, i’m really happy for her that she’s lost all that weight she looks beautiful now, even more so than before.
but the pessimist in me wonders how long she’ll be able to keep up and not revert back to her old habits and then give a plethora of interviews defending her weight gain.
personally when you compare her weight loss to everyone else on the program, i think she has lost too much in too little time. i just dont think she’ll stay at this weight forever. when i see her i just think eating too little and exercising too much which is what a lot of people do
I think Sarah Rue is a stunning woman, and one of the few women that can still be absolutely beautiful at a higher weight. She looks amazing in the after picture, but I really don’t think at 5’8″ she looks at all like an america size 6.
Yeah, she looks more like a size 4 than a size 6 in that photo. BUT — I think the photo has been photoshopped a tiny bit.
There’s a video commercial on the jenny craig website where she looks more like a size 6: http://www.jennycraig.com/commercial/sara
She’s wearing the exact same outfit and has the exact same hair in the video as in the photo, so I’m betting that means the photo and the video were probably done around the same time — it must be photoshop making her look slimmer in the photo than in the video.
I actually meant she looked bigger….my cousin is a 5’8″ and 130 lbs, a size 8, and she looks way way way tinier than Sarah Rue even in pictures.
She probably could fit into a size 6 in one store and wears like an 8 in others but says she’s a 6 because that’s the smallest size she can fit into. Lots of women do that I have discovered.
I find it hilarious that when a rich person essentially has someone else diet for them (meal delivery service…come on!) and then they take credit like it was some huge big struggle for them. Psh.
RIGHT?! lol. That always got me about those commercials, especially Valerie Bertinelli’s. She acted as if she invented ‘volumetrics’ and came up with the meal plans.
OMG I haven’t even recognized her !!!! She looks gorgeous. I already found her very beautiful in the big bang theory, but she’s just stunning, but I hardly recognize her…. That’s insane !!!
Does someone know what was her starter weight ?
im all for the healthy weight loss,
but she was cute even when she was chubby
She looks really good. I hope she doesn’t try to shed more weight, but just maintain it.
Uh huh. Jenny Craig has had a great track record, if you recall.
In that pic she looks smaller… but whatever, she looks incredible
She looks great!!!! Beautiful hair too btw. Why doesn’t my hair look that shiny and healthy when I grow it out??!! Ha!
She looks sooo much better, good for her.
Oh, wow, that’s an amazing weight loss! Good for her!
Wow she looks great. Hopefully if she cuts back on the cardio she doesn’t just gain it all back. I gotta get back in the gym.
is she a uk size 6 or a american size 6 which means uk 12?
either way she looks hot!
her work has deffo paid off!
US size 6.
wow she looks amazing. You go girl!!
woooow! she looks fantastic! even for a readhead …
She looks much better now. In the before pics when she was heavy she looks like Christina Hendricks.
It’s almost like a diferent person!! she looks good, hope she keeps in the healthy way!
wooow she looks amazing… very motivating… makes me want to eat right and go out there and walk! I shall do that tomorrow… and eat more veggies….
[...] They have to make us believe that they are happier than they have ever been or, as Rue states, “I have such a better relationship with food than I’ve ever had in my life.” Maybe the weight loss has made them happier, opening more publicity opportunities and financial [...]
If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
