Meh. But she’s still sixteen, you know? I know she’s going for a certain look, but there are ways of achieving this look with out looking cheap and somewhat trashy. I don’t know. I just think that as a public figure, she has an obligation of sorts not to look like a hooker, and garters and a barely there skirt are hookeresque. God knows I’m not a prude. I just think that dressing so that forty year old men who still live with their mothers can jack off to your picture is gross and not sexy at all. Someone, a parent, a friend, someone should pull her aside and explain to her that the Lindsey Lohan/Brittany Spears look and lifestyle is not to something to which a beautiful, talented sixteen year old girl should aspire.
i actually think she looks hot. she can wear what she wants and everyone can have an opinion but its her personal style and people shud get over the fact she likes to dress that way. and no she is 16 not 14

Okay comfortable is one thing but the image you portray to the rest of the world is kind of important too. The “I don’t care what people think of me” thing is kind of lame and everyone knows, even if they hate to admit it, that the impression you give off to others really does matter. End of story.
And no way in hell would I ever be caught dead wearing garters in the open. I like Taylor’s style but garters are just stupid. As if they would make an outfit more comfortable…

here’s the thing, I understand a 16 year old wanting to experiment and wear something crazy. Heck when I was 16 I would have gone to school dressed as Britney Spears every day.
However, it’s the adults around her (specifically her parents or anyone else she looks up to) who should be telling her this isn’t acceptable. Sure your teenage years are a time to find yourself and make bad choices… but honestly she looks like a prostitute here. It’s not just about HER it’s about the message shes’ sending to men (I’m easy) and the young girls who look up to her (It’s cool to dress like a slut). I just can’t believe someone would allow their child (and YES 16 is a child!) to walk out of the house dressed like this… it literally blows my mind.
The garters are cheap and nasty, no matter your age. And so are the hair extensions.

I agree, I hate it when people are like she’s 16 and wah wah wah. Even if she was 23, she shouldn’t be dressing like this out in public. However, I mean, it’s no longer high heels a little girl wants to wear, oh no, it’s garters!

You can admire her fashion choices and her gutsy attitude but at the end of the day, it’s wrong for a 16 year old year to be dressing like a prostitute, and worse for people to accept this. She’s not an adult even though she may not dress like one.

The whole outfit is cute, except for those damn stockings! I usually think well, she rocks it, go for it, and she usually looks great, but I can’t help thinking this would be better with black tights! I like the short skirt with long, looser top and boyfriend shirt thing, and she has stunning legs. I mean, I’m a great advocate of if you’ve got it flaunt it (within reason!) but I probably wouldn’t flaunt it with stockings and suspenders myself. I prefer wearing them under demure dresses, where nobody sees but you know you’re wearing them. A far sexier way to do it, no?

I think it’s kind of tacky to be wearing garters in public no matter who you are (prostitute or not) or what your age is.
I think she’s at the stage in her life where it’s really important for her to be sexy, but the thing is that she IS sexy. She doesn’t need to wear garters. She could be wearing jeans and she’d still be sexy. She just needs a little more confidence in herself. Hopefully that will come as she grows up and becomes more mature.
Taylor has a nice body and great legs, but that doesn’t mean I want to see that close to her vajin.
Also, garters are too inappropriate to wear visibly for anyone, whether you’re 16, 26, or 56. I don’t care. I don’t want to see your garters unless you’re a) performing in a Burlesque style show (musical or striptease) or b) you’re modeling lingerie.

OK. All the people saying she’s too young to wear this – you’ll always say this until she is then “too old” to wear it. I think everyone can settle with the fact that this is just a classless outfit.
Everything that can be said about the outfit has been said. So I’d just like to say that I’m reeaaally jealous of her hair. It’s absolutely perfect.
She’s 16 going on 17—give the kid a beak!. She needs leeway to find her own style and develop into her own person–this is, as I’m pretty sure the same with me when I was 16, a passing phase. She’ll eventually get sick of dressing like this sooner or later, and go on to another crazy fad. Teenagers style and attitudes, in general, fickle. Think of them of as work in progress.
Leave the worry to her Mother to fret over how she dresses.

i find it a bit strange that since shes like 16 the media dont make much of a fuss over her. miley is constantly being scrutinized about her tattoo, her outfits etc… or at least they have been in australia.

fashion icons – taking things and using them in a novel way (like garters, for casual outfits)
What do you expect, a victorian outfit? A Disney princess? A wholesome Hallmark little teenager devoid of the hormonal shitstorm, the need for identity and the budding sexual persona that they go through?
She may be a poser, and not the first to wear those things, but sheesh you’d think people never heard of 70s glam rock, 80s punk, and 90s grunge, to name a bunch of currents of music AND style that rebelled against the norm.
Wearing stuff that’s normally considered trashy is the POINT.
That outfit, heck, I’d consider it a shout back for the past musical icons, it’s been done before, many times. It’s not shocking at all. It’s taking something that’s suppose to be worn in a certain setting, and wearing it casually.
Remember when mini skirts came about? People said the same things. I remember in the 90s, a friend of mine was into grunge, and wore the aforementioned t shirt over long shirt, and cheapo 2nd hand clothes. People called trashy and ugly, and innapropriate. Misssing the point that you shouldn’t judge people by what they wear.

Women should be able to wear whatever they like whenever they like but the unfortunate truth is that some men will percieve this as a signal that the female in question wants to invite sexual attention. There are some men that don’t even need this much of an excuse. I think she must be very naive for her age not to realise what wandering around the street in your underwear might result in.
So some people say “she can wear whatever she wants etc.,” but she is STILL a child. Why ruin your “reputation” before you really make it out there (grow up)? Even if its “just a phase” people-speaking to everyone in general- (future employers, teachers, neighbors) will see this. It will affect you for the rest of your life because it shapes who you are. Now until she’s actually grown (18) her parents still have jurisdiction over what she wears etc., seeing that this is how she dresses, then they
A) must not care
B) think its okay
C) going with HER flow
D) are void
