Skinny VS Curvy

America’s Next Top Model plus-size winner Whitney Thompson is a spokeswomen for National Eating Disorders Association and she recently opened up to Huffington Post about the modeling industry – she makes some interesting points:

Oh yeah, models get treated like crap. Worse than anyone. We get fed last, we don’t sleep, they treat you like nothing. When you think about it, everyone thinks modeling is so glamorous, but you don’t get to say what you wear, you don’t get to say how you look, what your hair color is, what length it is, where you live, what you do — you have no voice at all. And the bookers — because I was a straight-size model growing up in high school, and my hips were always one inch too big — and, yeah, you have 45-year-old men saying, “You’re too fat.” You’re a teenage girl. It’s really disgusting. It’s an awful industry and, yeah, there is no soul in modeling.

A lot of girls get depressed, some girls commit suicide, some girls starve to death, literally, and we kind of just don’t pay attention to it in the industry. We don’t really talk about it, but it’s very common. I lived in a model apartment with all straight (size) models. One of the girls was on the lemonade cleanse for, I think, three weeks and her skin broke out all over in boils. But she was working in Paris every weekend and that’s all that mattered to her. And does the agency say anything? They’re not worried she’s too skinny, they’re worried she looks nasty because she has boils.

Remember size 10 winner of America’s Next top Model Whitney Thompson? Well, these days, she is the poster girl of ‘Love Your Body Day’ – and she is joined by Miss Plus America winner Chenese. The Daily Mail says:

Whitney Thompson has stripped bare in a bid to get women to love their bodies – no matter what their size is.

The full figured model, who won season ten of the hit U.S. show, America’s Next Top Model,  poses naked with a fellow plus size model, Chenese Lewis for an ad for Love Your Body Day.

How do you like these ads? Do they send the right message?

Due to (massive) request, here’s a little post on America’s Next Top Model Winner (Cycle 10), Whitney Thompson. You’re welcome!

Granted, the first red carpet pics are a few moths old, but I figured that you’d all like to comment on her outfit – How  do you like the cleavage area, is it revealing too much? How about the boots (their length, more precisely)? I think she’d look fabulous in classic cuts or in Marilyn Monroe-style dresses.

On another note, Whitney had a few intersting things to share about her experience as a “plus-size model” and ANTM:

It’s weird because those of us who are non-models say that a size 10 is not at all plus-sized or even full-figured.
It is because it’s not. It’s below average.

Did the girls ever give you crap about being full-figured?
You saw when Stacy Ann was like “Whatever, you’re fat.” And I was like “Uh, perhaps you meant P-H-A-T,” which is totally my personality. There were a few times. I think the girls were a little jealous that they had to diet and they had to do this work to be super skinny, and I was like “Well, I don’t, and my pictures still came out better than yours.” I think it was difficult for them because the plus-sized models usually lose their confidence within the first week or two. I think they were like “What? Well you’re big!”

It was refreshing that you didn’t keep hammering that “I’m big, and I’m beautiful” and that on the show you strove to be a model and not so much a role model.
Even though there are disadvantages to being bigger, in the long run the best thing that’s happened to me is that even before everyone knew that I won, I got e-mails from girls and boys from all over the world saying “I’ve dealt with an eating disorder and you’ve had me seek help and I see your confidence and how you do it,” people who were really looking up to me just for my ideas on the show, not even knowing I had won. I think that’s really the best reward I could possibly have.
