On growing up:
“I was a dumpy teenager. My mom was a model and was all about looks, so I rebelled by going goth. It took me years of peeling back the onion to finally stop using makeup as a mask and feel comfortable in my skin.”
On gaining weight:
“I quit smoking a few months ago and I put on a couple of pounds. Normally I’d be like, ‘Oh my god, I gained weight! Everyone is going to think I’m pregnant!’” Not anymore. “Now, I just don’t care.”
… says Jennifer in InStyle Magazine.

December 13, 2011 in Celebrity Quotes, Queen Latifah by Versus

Queen Latifah opened up to Essence Magazine about the struggles a plus-size woman (‘curvaceous’ in her words) deals with when purchasing clothes:
On finding clothes as a plus-size woman:
“A lot of manufacturers don’t respect the curvaceous woman. They don’t respect our dollar or our shape.”
On desigining her own clothing line that will include sizes from 2 to 24 US:
“I’m happy to make women’s clothing I really like. I mean these are things that are really beautiful, but they’re very wearable. We’re really trying to make sure that they have the best fabrics possible, that it feels good on the body. They are stylish clothes that fit my body, and make me look good and feel good about myself.”
… says Queen Latifah in Essence Magazine.

Do you guys agree with her first statement?
