15 year-old Julia Schneider from Sweden won the prestigious Elite Model Look Contest last week in Shanghai – and her success started a controversy, as various sources noticed Julia’s super thin frame and waif-like look and blamed the fashion industry for promoting, once again, extreme thinness. Certain voices (such as The Montreal Gazette’s Lens) even called the Swedish teen ‘a model for anorexia’ and other harsh words and noticed that the other contestants all looked ‘healthier’.

What is your take on this?

And another issue: Do you think 15 is too young to participate? What should the age limit be when entering such modelling competitions?

Australian bikini model Lara Bingle is the latest entry in the ‘Models Who Are Labelled ‘Fat” club. The reason? 24 year-old Lara recently put on 6 kg / 13 pounds. Here’s how she defends herself against critics:

You can never win. It is unfortunate that I’m their topic of being fat this week; maybe in a few weeks I will be too thin. I’ve never been that thin thin girl, I have curves, boobs and an arse, that’s my job, I’m a swimwear model. I don’t not eat. I love my food.

I have put on weight. So I’m not going to lie and say I haven’t. But I’m really happy right now and I’m working and that’s what I love. I like having boobs and a bum: I don’t want to look like a bony boy with no hips.

If I’m fat, how does that make a girl who is a size 12-14 feel, and that’s the size of an average Australian woman? It’s ridiculous.
