Skinny VS Curvy

Gwyneth Paltrow recently opened up about the weight fluctuations she had to go through for her new movie role and about the things that keep her motivated to stay in shape (spoiler: it’s her son pointing out her “fat belly”):

IN GREAT SHAPE FOR RUNNING IN HEELS
“I don’t think life is worth living if I can’t eat food and drink wine and have cheese and all that stuff. But it’s just about knowing, ‘OK, I’ve got this coming up where a lot of people will see how I look, so if I want to be in shape, I’ve got to be disciplined and I’ve got to work extra hard.’”

FOR HER NEXT MOVIE, SHE ‘CHUBBED UP’
“When I was working on Love Don’t Let Me Down I went to Nashville to play a country western singer. I ate so much and such different food that my son actually told me that my stomach was fat.”

THEN SHE HAD TO SLIM BACK DOWN
“Well, I sort of feel like you have to enjoy your life, but nothing comes for free. It’s like I can’t eat whatever I want and not exercise and look like this. I have to be realistic. I can’t go to Nashville and eat fried chicken for six weeks and then look like this without going on a major detox and a diet and hitting exercise hard again. You can achieve anything. Sometimes I work hard and sometimes I slack hard. Then, my son points to my fat tummy and then I step it up. I think it’s just about knowing that you have the power to look however you want. Are you going to wake up and make yourself do it and lose the weight you need to lose?”

Jennifer Lopez has a little bit of something to share with you (from Us Weekly):

“I remember my flabby belly hanging out right after I gave birth. I kind of laughed and said to Marc, ‘Look, baby! Isn’t this crazy?’ I just didn’t care. I look back at pictures from that time, and I’m like ‘Oh, god, I was fat. I was still heavy eight months out!’”

“You get to the point where you’re like, Where am I? What happened to me? I got to get myself together for my kids, you know? They need to know what I really look like.”

“Before I was always able to fit into sample-size clothes from designers, and now they have to take them out just a bit…It’s no big deal.”

Following the current trend, French Elle decided to dedicate an entire issue to plus-size women, put model Tara Lynn on the cover… and undressed her inside the magazine. Tara is beautiful (we’ve seen her in V’s Magazine Size Issue as well) and she does look plus-size (unlike other so called “plus-size” models).

But NY Magazine makes an interesting point:

We’ve asked this question before, but we’ll ask it again: Why must so many magazines shoot plus-size models naked? The photos of Lynn that follow in this spread depict her wearing clothes, as she should since this is a fashion magazine, with presumably an aim to show women how to dress. When fashion decided to make the hottest models the skinniest girls they could find, they didn’t shoot them naked to flaunt their protruding rib cages. Why must it be different now?

Magazines choose to remove even the tiniest lump, booty-tentative, ounce of fat out of the skinniest models’ bodies, yet at the same time, they choose to glorify and not photoshop the bigger lumps and bigger bellies of the plus-size models… it’s like these 2 extremes should be as extreme as possible and what lies in between is a “forbidden territory” – why do you guys think that is?

Six-pack or a little belly?

“I go, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to lose weight so I can fit into this.’ But I also go, ‘I haven’t been to the gym in a year. Do I want to go to the gym? No.’ At some point I will start running again and I will get there. There’s something sexy about a gut. Not a 400-pound beer gut, but a little paunch. I love that.”

About her naked scene with Ryan Reynolds:

“I was really worried about my butt jiggling when contact was made. Luckily, the director was a fellow female and knew just how to cut the scene before the ripple effect happened. I am very grateful.”
