Rihanna Looks Thin(ner) on Elle’s Cover
June 10, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Rihanna by Versus

Thinner, aka unnecessarily photoshopped. Check out that tiny waist!
And the short-haired beauty has something to share:
“I went to a Jean Paul Gaultier show, and I saw girls who are thicker than me, beautiful and voluptuous and different ethnicities. That made me so excited,” the singer continued. “I thought, Okay, I can work that, for sure.”
“There are definitely fewer black women in the high-fashion industry. One of the things I respected most about Gucci was that they did a print campaign with me. I’m a black girl on a fashion spread for Gucci. That was a big deal.”
What do you think about Rihanna’s cover & quotes?

Umm, isn’t it quite the contrary. I can only think of so many black models in the fashion industry. Why is it always about race, weight, etc.
sadly i agree with you. i feel there is much less diversity with regards to shape/size than race
I’m not buying the fact that her midsection is that small. we all saw Versus’ last bikini shots of her
Finally! someone points out that they photoshopped her waist, and hips instead of saying how amazing she looks on the cover. We’ve all seen her recent bikini pics and she looks great so I really don’t see the point in photoshopping her body so much. I guess no one is ever thin enough.
why the hell they photoshopped every artist in these magazines?? do they think people are stupid and blind??
I have a feeling there are plenty of black girls in the industry. It was a different thing 20 years ago. Idk, haven’t paid that much attention, maybe they’re still fewer than white women.. But not to the extent where i’d be surprised in the slightest to see Riri in Gucci ads. I love Gaultier
It’s not true, there aren’t that many black models. In fact two years ago Italian Vogue made a “Black Issue” (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2008/jun/20/fashion.usa) to point it out and articles about this same problem were published on American and Paris Vogue in the following months.
I just saw this thing on vh1 about modeling and there were actually more models of color in the 80′s then there are now, pretty sad.
She is not that tiny!!! And doesn’t NEED to be!
Woah that is SOO not her it isn’t even funny…
this Photoshop job is horrible. she’s beautiful the size she really is!
ugh, im so sick of her!
can’t she go away to some recording studio in a distant country (like bhutan) so we don’t have to see her 24/7.
would be good for her career too, now a day it seems like she can’t get hits without having any featuring artists.
her concerts in europe got shitty reviews too.
What about Tajikistan?
No one will ever look for her there.
There are lots of black models in the industry. Chanel Iman, Naomi Campbell, jourdan dunn etc. It really irritates me when people say there is not enough diversity with regards to race as in the modelling world there is no diversity most models are tall and thin so people should not complain about racial diversity when all models look the same
Not true at all.Just because you named 3 models doesn’t mean there is diversity. Diversity is represented by percentage. There are very few asian, hispanic, and black models compared to caucasian models. That is a fact. And though there are black models, all the big names are from the past. If you do a small sampling of for instance VS models. You get 1 black-Chanel, 1 mixed-Noemi, 1 asian(whose name I don’t know), 4 Brazilians, and the rest are european/south african/austrailan. Its pretty hard to name an ethnic model who is currenty famous without VS on their resume.
Okay, you named 3. You think 3 is a lot? Are you really that ignorant?
Yes, all models tend to have a similar body type, and that is a problem. Models also tend to be white the vast majority of the time. That is also a problem. One problem does not negate the other.
She is always so beautiful! She has a very exotic look and beautiful skin too! I dont think there has been too much photoshop here – she’s little on top but much larger on bottom but you cant really see her legs.
true
i don’t see the photoshop except for the smooth skin
Anyone who thinks that the fashion industry is diverse isn’t pay attention. http://jezebel.com/5536301/when-big-lips-dont-work-the-struggles-of-a-black-model
i was going to link to that video too! Please everyone watch it. The industry is so racist.
Pretty much the only black girls that get work in the industry are those with “white girl” features who “look like they have been dipped in chocolate” (and i’m quoting from the vid)- so basically black girls who look white but with dark skin.
Yeah I think people who don’t deal with the daily struggles of race or weight are always aware of how deep the problems are especially young people, we often don’t think about it because we usually don’t think about it. But the fashion industry doesn’t approve of anything relating to REAL life i.e people of different shades, sizes etc. Also the fact that you can name black , asian, hispanic and “plus-size” models on one hand is not okay, often you can name them because they are the only ones!
omg just like lollipop…wtf with that photoshop
Yeah that’s not her body at all.
Forget the photoshop , look at her hair
I really loved Rihanna back in 2005, she looked so sweet, her hair was very beautiful…
Talking about her body, she really looks nice without any photoshop..
Her head looks massive compared to her body! Horrible photoshop job!
so sick…
This is so wrong. It kind of looks like they put her head on Zoe Saldana´s body.
WTF? Why is a comment like this even allowed here.. smdh
I’m really surprised that versus hasn’t taken this off.. oh well I guess the site has become black vs white
I deleted it – now I am not at the computer all the time (obviously), so the best I can do is to allow all comments to be posted (minus the ones that include swearing and the moderated visitors), and later, I read them all and moderate the offensive ones that passed.
The other solution is to moderate all of you from the start. This is how a blog works – do you have a better solution?
I don’t like the fact that you had to jump to conclusions and categorize my site like that at all.
I apologise. I didn’t really look at the date properly and I thought you had seen the comment and just allowed.
once again my apologies, I get very emotional when I read stuff like that so I’m sorry if in upset I was unfair to you.
Cool shes ded pretty x
