Renee Zellweger Wants to Be a “Skinny Bridget Jones”
February 19, 2010 in Renée Zellweger by Versus
National Enquirer has the scoop:
Renee Zellweger’s driving producers crazy over negotiations for her third “Bridget Jones’s Diary” flick, claiming docs warned her it’s unhealthy to pack on up to 30 real-life pounds again – as she famously did for the first two films – so Renee’s… insisting that this time, instead of being a zaftig everywoman, Bridget should be a diet-conscious skinny-minnie like… Renee herself! Folks, here’s the real skinny: Renee’s nagged by fear that going plump might get her butt dumped by… Bradley Cooper – just like it killed her romance with White Stripes rocker Jack White. But producers are balking, saying audiences won’t buy a skin and bones Bridget.
Will Bridget lose her popularity if she loses the pounds?

Frankly, she gained too much for the 2nd film. The first one looked good. And I don’t think Bridget needs to be fat, but not scrawny! Gain 15 pounds Renee. Just look normal and healthy!
Oh I agree! She went overboard in the second one. The first one she looked fine in. I know I wouldn’t watch a skinny Bridget—simply because that’s not the character.
I agree! All those fluctuations of her weight might be dangerous for her health! If she gains 15 lbs,it won’t be that bad. And If they want her to look bigger than that, they can use some padding(?)!
P.S.:If her boyfriend breaks up with her just because she put weight(especially since she will loose it),he doesn’t deserve her!!!
agreed pppccc with the bf comment…tho i wish id take my own advice! lol! also, i agree 15lbs would be good and that she actually looked good in the first one, but the second was too much
although i have to say she did look pretty hot in the bunny outfit!!! sure she was a bit plumper but she rocked it i thought!
I don’t think the audience will buy a stick thin Bridget.
I agree with the above poster, that Bridget doesn’t have to be heavy, but she does have to be normal. 10-15 lbs would be enough to satisfy most people.
I agree with her. Going back and forth between sizes like that can’t be healthy. If her character must be a larger size, why can’t she just wear a fat suit and putty facial prosthetics?
A prime example to all the people who walk around saying “so and so should gain x amount of pounds so they can be healthy.” You may think x amount of pounds looks better, but it isn’t always healthier. I’m glad she’s standing up to her prouders. Maybe they find it easy to pack on 30 pounds, but if she has the type of body that doesn’t pack it on easy, there’s no point in risking her health over it. No amount of money is worth that. Wear padding.

But it’s perfectly fine to say so and so should lose x lbs to be healthy and/or so and so should really tone up so on and so forth? Please, behave as you preach, and only then preach.
No, it is not okay to say someone should lose x pounds to be healthy either. If I ever say someone should lose weight or tone up, it’s for asthetics. Just like people can say someone should gain weight for asthetics. I don’t bring health into it unless someone is clearly overweight, such as Gabourey or Kelly Clarkson. So yes, I do practice what I preach.

And they are telling her to gain weight for “aesthetic” purposes (specifically, character believability). I don’t see how your stance is somehow better than theirs.
word
It’s unhealthy to yo-yo back and forth. It’s not necessarily bad to be 30 lbs heavier than she is here, but it’s best to have a stable weight whether you want to be thin or curvy.
Bridget should be atleast +15 pounds Renee. I like Bridget movies – and i know plety of them who don’t. Fat Britney I mean Bridget rules yeaahh
I would not watch a skinny Bridgit. Simply, because her not being thin is a major part of the appeal of the original movie.
like she realized that only now, that gaining 30 pounds and then losing them again is not so healthy. she already knew that when she was doing the first two films. i totally understand if she does not want to do it, she’s not that young anymore, her body will not so easily forgive this weight jo jo. but if she decides to once again be our lovely bridget she really should gain some weight ..
She can gain weight the healthy way.
Instead of eating multiple artery clogging burgers consecutively, she can eat balanced meals and maybe add 300+ calories per day (I’d say per meal seeing she’s so thin but…)
it will take her a long time losing the weight by adding 300 cal/day!
She should gain some weight but not for the role. She just would look much better with some meat on her bones because now she looks too thin.
If she’s worried about being dumped just for putting on weight for a film role,
then he’s not worth having.
I know. As if the “fate” of their entire relationship depends on if she gains weight.
That is the news according to the National Enquirer fyi
I wouldn’t want a skinny Bridget either, although for me it’s not about the way her body looks – no it’s the face.
When Renee is very thin she loses so much weight in her face that she starts to look a little haggard and very “hard”. But as soon as she puts some on her face gets rounder and softer and looks more lovable to me. Now that’s Bridget … hard and sharp cut features on Bridget ? I guess that would ruin the character since softnes, clumsiness and cuteness is what makes a Bridget for me.
But still, I do understand Renee, I don’t know if I’d be ok with going back and forth between weight ranges all the time. Has to be tiresome. So maybe a fatsuit really would be worth a try – even though it probably wouldn’t be as authentic as in the earlier films.
I agree; her face looks much older when shes at this weight, when she is heavier her face looks more youthful and attractive.
I think it’s a great idea! I would so run to watch that movie!
I didn’t watch either one of the Bridget Jones flicks, don’t plan on doing it if she’s fat or thin.
i loved those movies…and it doesn’t fit character is she doesn’t put on weight. period
Gain weight or don’t do the movie…….When your an A list actress then you can have input but lets be honest her career has been at a standstill she’s not z-list but she’s deff B list. Everyone knows Bridget Jones is chunky!!!! If Bradley dumps you because your gaining weight obviously he doesn’t love you!!!
The reason that so many women love Bridget Jones is because quite a few of them can relate to her – she’s not fat, but she’s not skinny. If she was skinny in the movie, it would almost be like betrayal in a way.
I’ve never seen the Bridget Jones films but all I hear about is she gains and loses lots of weight because of this role. Gaining and losing 30 lbs for movie roles seems to be a little extreme. Could she just wear a “fat suit”?
I’d still watch it even if she doesn’t gain any weight.
I think it would be sooo lame if they make a skinny bridget!! i think either she needs to gain weight or they should not make the movie at all.
it will completely change her character if she is emaciated!
This story is not true. Her reps made a comment to Gossip Cop and here it is http://www.gossipcop.com/renee-zellweger-weight-not-causing-bridget-jones-wait/ and it states … “So not true,” a rep for Zellweger tells Gossip Cop about the purported poundage impasse, adding, “Renee more than anyone would be true to the character” should a third film get made.
Her health will be fine, the bigger concern is stretching out her skin and permanently ruining her figure. You can easily hide stretch marks and stuff under clothes, if she has already damaged her body she probably doesn’t want to damage it more.
sort of off topic, but her figure looks amazing in the dress in the pic with this story!
I don’t think i would even bother to see the film without the “real” Bridget!
And i think that 20 lbs is enough, so that she won’t destroy herself.
How she looks is a BIG part of her
Wow, ‘zaftig everywoman’ Bridget Jones – so no judgement there then.
And no, she can’t play Bridget skinny – the whole point of the character is that she struggles to lose weight and is around a UK 12. Sure, people will see it but it’ll be exactly like when Kevin Cosner played Robin Hood with an American accent. Why bother?
Alternatively why don’t they just fat suit her? It worked with that character on Mad Men.
BRIDGET ISN’T BRIDGET IF SHE’S SKINNY
LOL
She looks really great now, and I know she works hard (going by all the gym photos of her) to maintain her figure.. why ruin it all for one stupid chick flick? I hope she stays thin
Is this (the picture here) an in between weight for her? Because she does look a bit thicker in the movies, and I’ve seen her in pictures where I have thought she looks far too skinny. But I think she looks perfect right here.
i agree that renee seems the type to want to do a part well, but equally that may be why she has put off doing a third film for so long. while i would find loosing and gaining like that a huge pain, to some extent its kind of like getting pregnant, and she does get paid a lot! plus if she is such a gym bunny she’s gonna be working hard on her figure whatever her size. i think the thing with bridget wasn’t just weight it was how they styled her. she was always sooooooooo badly dressed, her hair a total mess! 15 pounds would be enough to round out her face and upper body, her legs always stay skinny anyway.
i just hope that she is holding off til they get a really great script( unlike the second film) especially as it is likely to be the last one.
Here’s an idea…..why don’t you stop making crappy sequels and ruining the classic wit, hilarity and genius of the original. There, problem solved! Or if you have to make some money, just gained 10-15 lbs, (you’re looking a bit too thin these days, Renee)
