Photoshop Overload: Mariska Hargitay in Good Housekeeping

Law & Order’s Mariska Hargitay (46) is on the cover of Good Housekeeping this month, where she looks positively skinny and bobble-headed in an orange bandage dress. And what’s on the left? The actual Mariska, filming her show in July 2010.
What happened is that Mariska’s head was basically enormified on the cover – in the above comparison, I made sure that her head was the same size in both pictures for an accurate observation; but check the rest of her figure! Her hips start higher in the photoshopped image, her waist insanely smaller and so is the rest of her. And of course, the neck is obligatorily line-free (though that’s virtually impossible in that position).

The differences in these two pictures is that the picture on the left is when she was pregnant with her son, where as on the right is after she lost all of the baby weight

Get real….she looks horrible…I record all SVU episodes and watch most of them. I always not the dates,,year of episode. She looks almost like a different person in past 4 or 5 years. worse all the time. In early episodes she is beautiful, shape and body.
I find it unpleasant that all I’ve seen and read denies any change in her looks…she is beginning to look horrible and it is sad to me. Just own it and go with it, many of us gain weight,,more than deemed “full figured”…look at her earlier episodes, she is a knock out, but not now. To me it takes enjoyment out of the show..just sad to watch her beauty fade…What is with the bridge of her nose and the eyebrows? Boy it’s not good for sure, Is this the result of a bit of cosmetic surgery gone wrong? Looks like that to me…Now with the decline of her looks, the show uses adjectives as beautiful, knock out and many otbers…..are we all in denial…They’re using these much more than they did when she was gorgeous….Own it, and move on…You’re probably a beautiful person and weight and insecure body/face image and aging is something I live with too….Enjoy your family, cut back on your hours and take care of yourself, for real…Instead of giving tips of how to when you so obviously are losing it…Big deal…still your fan Rhonnie

She looks awful on that magazine cover… She’s a real beauty and her curves are really sexy… I hate photoshop.

The real Mariska looks nothing like the one on the cover.
I actually find her really unattractive. Nothing about her looks or personality grabs me. If it weren’t for her famous family, she probably wouldn’t get a quarter of the attention that she does, jmo.
This pictorial is the scary proof that this world is twisted. This is how, as a teenager, I ended up feeling bad about my body: women in magazines are shrank till crazy. I always felt I was too “big”, that my bone structure was too big, when in fact I was just… normal.
And probably beautiful. The twiggy thing they have there, with the rubber neck and all, is unnatural!

That’s not photoshop; that’s plain being rude, disrespectful and frankly – pardon my language – an A class idiot. How can someone with 1/4th of a brain let that cover out?? It’s simply mocking the person on it. It looks like a caricature of her; one would say: “oh my, that caricature of Mariska looks a lot like her, good job on the humorist that drew it”

I see the body is touched up in the magazine cover but if that wasn’t pointed up to me I wouldn’t have realized, it doesn’t look shocking to me.
She’s gorgeous either ways.
I don’t even think they made her skinnier, her body has the same proportions as the real mariska, but it’s just been shrunken in comparison with her head. And her arms are really short… I can’t even look at it.

I just have to wonder how these Photoshopped women feel when they see the cover and realize that it’s not really them on the cover. What a slap in the face…. I would be devestated if I thought I was going to be on a cover only to see that they thought I wasn’t “pretty enough, skinny enough, my legs weren’t long enough, my face wasn’t plastic looking enough” to actually be represented. It’s a sad world!
I totally agree with what Erin says if that were me being photoshopped on a cover I would be totally humiliated. I would feel like I was trying to make everyone believe this is really look like!!
For those of you that think her arms are short; look at where her hand is, WAY up on her hip, totally unlike the left side picture which was taken not long after she had her baby.
No doubt there is some photo magic going on but not that much, If you look at her on current episodes she is pretty darn slim.
And as far as being famous because f her family name: I’d bet if you asked most people who her parents were, especially those under 40, you’d find VERY few would know who they are.
I’ve had a huge crush on Mariska since I was 13 years old. lol
She is very unique looking, in a good way, and so absolutely beautiful.
Not to mention she is a very sweet and incredibly kind person. I <3 Mariska.
