French Elle’s “Stars Without Make-up… or Photoshop” Issue: Monica, Eva & Sophie
April 16, 2009 in Celebrities Without Make-up, Eva Herzigova, Monica Bellucci, Photoshop Job by Versus

Guess what?
Elle France did something major: they put 3 celebs on the cover, 3 MAKEUP-LESS, UNPHOTOSHOPPED celebs on the cover.
Quite interesting, especially since Elle is the Queen of Photoshop in Magazine Land (OK, not the French version, but still).
The initiative is applaudable, but of course, the selected celebs are all natural beauties (who don’t wear exaggerated amounts of make-up anyway and who don’t really need any touch from Photoshop): Monica Bellucci, Eva Herzigova and Sophie Marceau.

As we can notice, they didn’t go for glamorous outfits or for perfectly fabulous hairstyles either. Or for accessories. Or for color. It’s like they stripped off all elements that are used to enhance someone’s beauty. Kinda going from one extreme to another… so how do you feel about this?
See Sophie Marceau on the next page!

They look marvellous!
I admire classic beauty of Monica Bellucci.
They are beautiful, but this is not without make-up, they wear foundation and very natural eye-shadows and of course the light and the colors are very soft. I bet in reality its a different story. I also love Monica the most, blondes without make-up are too pale
I know, I’m Italian but… Monica looks stunning in my opinion… she seems to have a kind of beauty that reminds… eternity. She’s like a Boticelli’s… we are not speaking about perfection, but about being charming and ravishing…
Monica is so gorgous even without make-up.. might actually be even better.
They look lovely. Good for them!!!
Very lovely, and refreshing. Monica is just so stunning and riveting, I keep scrolling back up to stare at her picture
Monica is so stunning!!
I think I love Monica lol!!! absolutely stunning.
I really like the idea! very refreshing from what we are so used to! they look lovely!
Good on em….it’s about time magazines showed women for what they really are. It’s so unfair that magazines show photoshopped pictures and women are made to feel unnattractive or aspire to look like it.
These are slightly photoshopped. check out the blurriness of their skin
actually Europian women don’t use a lot of makeup so I am not surprised
Whereabouts do you live? I’ve lived here most of my life and I see more women wearing make-up in Europe than in North America. They also work more on their overall appearance than North American women do.
Unfortunately more and more European women like to use “artificial stuff” like fake boobs, fake nails, hair extensions, colored lenses etc. etc. AND a lot of makeup. Also, consider that many of the major Cosmetic Companies are French (L’Oréal, Clinique, Guerlain, Dior, Clarins etc. etc. etc.)
I’ve seen that in the UK and in North America, but not in Europe (apart from one or two who went overboard with make-up and fake nails). Most of the European women I see keep things fairly natural, yet look elegant and put-together at the same time. I’m living in one of the most superficial places in France, so I would have expected to see more ‘fake’ women, but strangely I don’t!
actually, clinique has it’s base in us
*U.S.
This of course does not mean it didn’t start in France!
And in europe, i believe that half women wear too much make up ,and the other half wear(almost) no make up!!!
I like the idea, very refreshing. But they could have at least brushed their hair, especially Sophie Marceau.
I’m glad. Now those obsessed with pointing out photoshop alterations on magazine covers can shut up for once. So annoying.
Ooh I love these, and they all look stunning, lets hope they bring the idea over to the UK!
i am so upset about sophie marceau. I thought she was one of the most beautiful women. i no longer agree. she looks like a boy w/o makeup. eva is gorgeous though. healthy, refereshed. gorgeous. monica looks good. would look better if she didn’t tan so much in her youth.
Sophie looks yummy =)
They are all so refreshingly gorgeous.
i think the euro-trash of france go for that pile-on-makeup look, but the majority of females in france definitely go for a more simple, au natural look.
monica belluci looks simply beautiful.
I don’t know who any of these women are. I’d be more interested if they were “real” celebs. Although, it’s nice (and brave) for them to be without makeup.
Monica is an Italian model and actress, Eva is a Czech model and actress. They both became well-known in Paris before becoming more famous. Sophie Marceau is a French actress. Remember, this is FRENCH Elle.
They ARE real celebs in Europe! and this is a Europena magazine! Speaking as a Brit who has lived in both France and Italy I can assure you that everyone in these 2 countries knows who they are!
If by ‘real celebs’ you mean Kim K, that Hanah Montana-girl or some other celebrity wanna be, that think again. These women really brought us something. Stunning and ravishing-that’s all I can say.
They are naturally very pretty, but a little make up is fine. Even men are wearing a little make up these days. Too plain is just as unprepared as too made up.
Monica is just naturally gorgeous no matter what. Plus she’s over forty so she’s not going to look flawless. She looks great.
It seems to me like their using some mascara and such.. I never look more made up than that anyways… though i’m younger than they and have fairly good skin so i don’t need skin products. they look nice and natural but i don’t think there’s anything that controvercial in not looking like a drag queen 4 once.
if they aren’t photo shopped then either the photgraphers need to be knighted, and given my phone number! or they use way way to much botox! the youngest woman here is what 36 or so?? and yet no mouth to nose lines, no smile lines, no frown lines, perfect poreless skin…come on. we just seen a pic of kate moss at 35 makeup free and looking like their granny! i am 32 still get ID’d but i have more lines than these woman. my16 year old cousin has more lines. this represents nothing in the fight against unrealistic images in the media. sorry.
amazon, well for sure they use botox, face fillers, laser surfacing, have excellent skin care regimens and etc…plus they can afford it, and unless they overdo it, the results look very natural, especially as these women are already naturally gorgeous…I’m 26 and I started getting nose to mouth lines and hollowing under-eyes when I was 22…I didn’t look older than my age, infact I’ve always had the full cheeked baby-face (which I used to hate when I was younger), but that face looked sad, worn out and tired…I got the eye hollows and nose to mouth lines filled in last year, finally, and I look like I’ve slept well for the first time in years. No one suspected a thing, not even the people living with me! they just think I started sleeping better and chalked up my fresher face to my healthier eating/work out habits LOL. I will not hesistate to continue using dermal fillers for as long as I can afford it.
3 of them are naturally beautiful, make up or no…Eva and Sophie look fresh faced, like down to earth (but hot) housewives next door…buuut…I love Monica Bellucci most! Her face is so exotic and mysterious, not the housewife next door type…She is the sexiest mid-40′s woman on earth…and the best thing about her is that her sexiness is never vulgar but always elegant, polished, classy….actually she’s more sensual than sexy…what a woman
I am glad I found your blog, I will return.
