Was This Ad Too Photoshopped?

… Or is the model’s waist really that small? Or is the excessive skinniness meant to attract controversy, to capture interest and to gain popularity for the brand?

Ugh! OMG…that is INSANE! WTH? Her waist is non-existent…and her face is looking pretty rough as well. I don’t mind a little photoshopping when they are doing little things like erasing stretch marks, wrinkles, cellulite…but when they change a person’s shape and/or features I think it’s truly disturbing!

either way i think the ad is out of line……whether she really is that thin or whether it was photoshopped is irrelevant.

yea her back leg is significantly smaller than the other.. she looks awful!
i think the difference in the size of her legs is just because of the way she’s standing. and in terms of her waist, my stomach is that small in proportion to my legs (not that i’m anywhere near that small), so while the model herself may be a bit thin, it’s not necessarily due to photoshop

I think this is the most conflicted I’ve ever been about an ad. My heart is going oooo I love that skirt! The jackets adorable! Could I wear thigh highs and mary janes without looking like taylor momsen or a street walker? But my head is going….ftw…?! Which direction is she even coming from! Its so distorted-i believe she’s looking over her shoulder… But then does this mean this is the side of her booty? Did her waist disappear, because of an unfortunate angle & jacket placement combo, or did the photoshop it down to a mere 12 inches? If so, why are her thighs left relatively normal? Ah. I think I need a lie down.

She is clearly twisting herself around. Look at where her feet are positioned. The heels are facing us, and her head is as well. I’m sure she is tinier than imaginable, but I think the twisting position has a lot to do with it.

I think it would be cool if it’s going for an odd futuristic kinda of a look (though different clothes would be helpful), you know if it’s not meant to look like reality, but really she looks ugly and like the took her body at the middle and twisted it.

I’m not going to sit here and insult the model…honestly, we don’t know what she actually looks like and judging by her legs, she’s not scary thin.
The scary part about her is her non-existant waist, and lack of leg-bones around the hip area. Clearly, she doesn’t look like that, because no human being looks like that, even those that corset.
This picture has been tampered with, and I don’t understand why because while small waists are attractive (ie, Candice), this is just freakish and not hot.
This is Kirby Kenny, she models for Proenza. I don’t think this ad has actually been photoshopped to disgusting proportions, it’s the fact her body is curved in such unnatural angles that allows her waist to appear so tiny.
I hate that people are always picking apart models or tiny people for looking disgusting or taunting them with “eat a cookie”, it’s generally the same as calling someone fat, and being disgusting for their weight, whether over or under. I weight 91 lbs, and I’m 5’4, I eat like any normal person, it’s just my genetics – my mom and grandmother were extremely petit too, and people ask me all the time if I have an eating disorder or whatnot – it’s the same thing as asking an overweight person if they’re a binge eater. People are always so cruel about weight, no matter what.
I was the same weight (same height too) at one time then I had three kids. I weigh around 135 lbs now. I used to talk just like you now I have to watch everything I put in my mouth so I don’t go up to 150 lbs. You’ll change, believe me. It’s so easy when your young and only have yourself to worry about.
You must be a young teenager then. Otherwise you should probably see a doctor if you’re having that much trouble maintaining a healthy weight.
Well, as I have mentioned earlier in the above post, both my mother and my grandmother were extremely petit. And, I’m far from a ‘young teenager’, but thanks anyhow, I’m actually 23 years old. And generally like I had mentioned, I consume regular meals, and my doctor (whom I see quite frequently, but thanks again) believes my weight is healthy so long I’m consuming the necessary food requirements.
Yet again, my point proven, people automatically think there’s a unhealthy balance if someone is under/over the general notion of ‘weight’. And, I don’t recall stating that I “have trouble maintaining a healthy weight”. Maybe you should have read my statement more clearly.
Well if you are 20 lbs underweight & you actually are eating the recommended calories then that means you are having trouble maintaining a healthy weight. Hopefully your doctor actually ruled out things like hyperthyroidism & type 1 diabetes, otherwise I’d get a 2nd opinion.

Designers/photoshoppers/people who sign this stuff off to appear in magazines need to stop MUTILATING GIRLS’ BODIES FOR PRINT ADS. It is disgusting. Models are shrinking more and more, and soon, their bodies won’t even exist. How far can this go? It’s extremely depressing.
Anyone who is trying to defend this ad needs to get their heads checked. This is not natural.

actually this is not p/s.. i work with p/s….this is the girl that is in the new Tyra Banks.. America’s NEXT TOP Model!.. and you can literally put your hands around her waist,and your hands will touch.. J on ANTM did it in the commerical… It has caused a big uproar.. because people thought tyra thought it was ok.. Personally.. I think they should have said, to her, you can’t be on till you gain more weight.. ENough is enough.

I don’t think its THAT photo shopped I kinda agree with sillygirl the awkward position she’s standing in plus the all black, the dark lighting, the jacket , the skirt definitely emphasizes the waist being an elastic band (I’m guessing) and the model could be a thin pear shape like Keira Knightly for all we know. if they photo shopped something I think its more likely the part of the skirt were the hips would be and that’s why her legs look a little awkward. but maybe its just me.
Yes this is probably photo shopped as all ads are. But as you said this is also a profile shot and part of her waist is hidden buy the jacket. Her waist is very small but the angle and lighting may have more to do with the illusion than anything. Being extremely skinny myself if I were shot this way my waist would appear just as small as hers..
Isn’t this the girl Anne with the 19 inch waist from America’s Next Top Model? Looks like her. If it is than it’s prob not photoshopped.
Eww, it looks scary! Even a young child could see that it’s “not right”, and by not right, i mean not the way a healthy human being is intended by nature to look.
I was reading an article by an anorexic women, and she said that children who see her ask their mothers, “Why does that lady look like a skeleton?”.
So, basic answer to the question, is this ad too photoshopped? Yes, it is, and it’s awful.

This is the most unattractive advertisement I’ve ever seen… I mean, seriously, who picked this photo for publication?! “Oh, I know… why don’t we go in a new direction by picking an ugly, anorexic model… then we’ll go a step further and photograph her in a contorted position with a horrifying scowl on her face… now that will sell clothes!”
I know the models in these ads, the Kenny twins. They are naturally thin (not super skinny), and honestly it is just her position in this picture. There is nothing abysmal about it whatsoever.

i think they call this type of thing ‘edgy’
