Something always irks me about Natalie, like i get the feeling that she’s a bit pretentious and full of herself, but maybe it’s jealousy

I agree that she also comes off a bit pretentious. I don’t think she means to, but she does.
I also find it weird that she’s talking about actresses marketing themselves based on their looks. That’s part of what being an actress is. Whether you look old, young, sexy, ugly…you’re chosen based on how you look for certain roles. It’s impossible to avoid it. Why was she chosen for V and Star Wars? Because she had a certain look that the caster wanted.
Also, she’s posing for a fashion magazine. I wouldn’t say she’s exactly the prime example of someone who doesn’t market their body. A fashion magazine is not that far off of a men’s magazine…the only difference is that they’re aimed at different genders.
Maybe I am just biased because I love Natalie and respect her ha ha…I think what Natalie is talking about is she is not someone like “Jessica Alba” who does bikini roles aimed mostly for men. Natalie takes on heavy roles where she had better be convincing as an actress and like how she said she doesn’t want to “end up as a screen grab on a porn site”.
So yes to a certain degree she is cast on her looks, but that is obvious, everyone in Hollywood is in Hollywood because of their look to begin with. But it’s what little extra talent they do have that takes them to the next level… I “think” that is what Natalie is referring to.

I perfectly agree with you. I mean, sure, actresses are chosen for their looks, but when the role is hard this is just one of the criteria. And i really love the fact that she thinks like this and yes she is worthy of respect! What she sends out is: See, even if you are asked about looks you can reply in an intelligent way, no need to go on and on about yourself, in a rather superficial manner.
She’s GORGEOUS, really talented and incredibly smart.
But yes, I think she does come off as pretentious.
I don’t necessarily think she comes off as pretentious but I do think she can come off a bit condescending at times as well as pompous. But I prefer her to any of these no talent actresses *coughs* Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and tones of others whom I’m happy I don’t remember. Nevertheless she’s beautiful and ambivalent towards Hollywood as well as Incredibly intelligent

thats exactly what i was just going to comment on. what on earth could have been so distasteful about a pair of knees that they felt the need to make them disappear!!
i know a lot of people will disagree with me, but i actually think she is a pretty awful actress – to the point where she actually ruins movies for me. Her range of emotions and expressions is so limited that she always comes across and very frigid and awkward on screen. In fact, the only role she was really good in was in the Professional and she was just a little kid at the time.
Why does she even bring up Streep? Streep is indeed considered the greatest actress of the century but it’s really easy figure out why she was never marketed as a sex symbol.

I thought they were the same actress for a while. Kiera played her double in Star Wars ep. 1 but I thought it was Natalie playing both roles. Twins I tell ya! I love Natalie though, so pretty and so smart
I wish more actresses seemed to understand that. Ashley Greene is a good example, she seems to act quite well but as soon as she gets some spotlight she ends up doing quite full on photoshoots/interviews for men’s magazines.
Not only will people forget about you when you age, but you’ll be typecast as the one dimensional ‘sexy’ characters who never play huge parts in serious films.
That first pic is odd…..they could’ve at least photoshopped that shadow that looks like a mustache out.

Someone’s been thinking about getting older….
She’s about 9 months older than me, so I know where she’s coming from, the thought of getting older concerns me a lot these days, but at least I’m not in Hollywood.
But she should compare herself to Meryl Streep, she’s a whole other league in my opinion, now THAT’S a great actress!

gorgeous! Smart and talented. She definitely has opinions and isn’t afraid to share them, which may come off as pretentious but I think is an admirable quality. She’s quite smart and can back up most of what she says. Strange- it looks like they photoshopped her knees out of the photo.
I think she’s a very talented actress, yes she’s gorgeous but her success comes from her talent and her professionalism. She is also a child star remember (she was very young in Leon) and lets face it she has kept her head, unlike so many other child stars, Lohan , Olsen, Brittany e.c.t who had had there fair share of negative press. Also she’s someone who keeps herself to herself and in that way does not taint her image. I agree Meryl Streep has a sexy aura about her.

Re: pretentious- I don’t think people are using the word very precisely here. The word alludes to people making excessive claims about themselves or exaggerating their own importance. The quote does neither.
If people are trying to say that she speaks differently than many actresses, that’s undoubtedly true. She doesn’t say ridiculous things and embarrass herself every few weeks. I think she’s fabulous, but not quite as choosy about her roles as some media outlets suggest. The Other Boleyn Girl comes to mind here.
