Mel B Says: Your Food Has to Taste Good
June 16, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Mel B by Versus

“I think one of the most important things is no matter how healthy your food is, it has to taste good — whether you marinate that fish or chicken overnight, whether you slow-bake it, whether you put your chicken and vegetables in a crock pot and let it simmer. You have to take time out and nurture your food and make it taste good because eating food is a big part of the day for everyone. It’s social.”
“I don’t do that much because I have a pretty good gauge as to what’s healthy and I have a pretty good gauge as to ‘OK, I’m full now.’ I try not to overeat. But I think it’s great to know how many calories this has, or that has. I think it’s unhealthy when you start getting completely obsessed about it, but I think a healthy knowledge of it is a great idea.”
… says fit Melanie in OK Magazine.
Do you guys agree with her thoughts?

this is a good idea, but how can you prevent being obsessed?
I think it’s easy to prevent not becoming obsessed. Part of it involves not completely worrying about everything you eat: understanding that even if you eat one unhealthy meal, you haven’t “ruined” your body and your diet, and understanding that there is little difference between 150 and 160 calories and you don’t need to double check to make sure which one it is.
Unfortuntely, I have known girls that did the above mentioned things. It was the diet equivalent of being a germaphobe. I mean, it’s good to know what you’re eating, just like it’s good to be hygenic. But you can overdo it.
The key (at least for me) is to be mindful of your own thoughts. If you start noticing you’re taking things a wee bit too seriously, I remind myself to relax and stop being so exact about it.
Having an activity (job/school/family/etc) plus hobbies, and varied interests and a social life – also take away from the time you’d spend obsessing over minutiae.
No person deserves to spend hours upon hours everyday obsessing about how they look, and what they eat. It’s sad.
She has a very nice bod, saying reasonable thing, but the only one thing came to my mind when I saw the picture: “Horrible hair extensions!”
I love food, so of course it has to be delicious! Healthy food doesn’t have to taste bad, but I’m sure it helps if you naturally find the healthy things to be tasty. I have a friend who simply hates the flavour of fruits and vegetables and it is extremely tough for her to keep a healthy diet.
I found that, in North America, eating out wasn’t really as much of a social thing as it is in Europe. Sometimes it really got on my nerves that the goal of the waiters and waitresses is to shovel food down the peoples’ throats as quickly as they can and kick them out the door to replace them with another set of paying punters. It felt good to eat in a European restaurant again and to feel free to sit there for hours having discussions and sharing jokes and stories with family and friends.
Yea, European food traditions seem just much more healthy than America’s. I’ve never been to Europe (unfortunately) but I’ve kind of picked up that people eat together, enjoy their food (but don’t shovel down as much as possible), and then don’t snack much or at all.
she is right on the money. she should also have mentioned how important it is to be active!!! in combination with being a smart eater.
I agree completely. Its VERY important to eat health food thats still yummy, at least to me. I think a lot of people don’t eat healthy because they think healthy is boring and tasteless.
and believe me it works, I lost 18 lbs eating tasty salads
I eat lots of salads and they are anything but boring. Things like jalapenos, sweet peppers, good dressing, spices, totally help. and an advice to anyone who is bored with chicken salads, try a spicy tuna salad at a sushi restaurant. Even without a dressing, the sauce the tuna comes in is amazing! i crave that stuff all the time. And theres vrtually no calories, all it is is asian greens and raw tuna. but sooo delicious, check it out guys!!
Very well said.
if it doesn’t taste good, i won’t eat it…lol
