OK, Megan, this “pearl” is new. Let’s hear out the context (from The Telegraph):
Asked what she makes of the “Sexiest Woman in the World” label, Fox laughs. “I don’t take any notice of those polls. I take it with a grain of salt. I think that because I was in a movie [Transformers] that made $800 million, they threw me on the top of the list.” But what about her remark to Esquire that “I’m just really confident sexually and I think that sort of oozes out of my pores?”
She sighs. “Sometimes I say things that I think are obviously sarcastic and people take them quite literally. In America we’re still very uptight about sexuality: it’s considered scandalous for women to be sexual or speak about sex in a humorous way,” she says.
“For some reason it makes people very uncomfortable, possibly because our society is still very tied to archaic biblical principles that we try to force on each other and force on our children. It’s very unfortunate because men are embraced for their sexual prowess and women discouraged from it.”
“In Europe, women are celebrated for their sexuality and appreciated for it. There you can still be both sexy and intelligent. Go figure.”
“I just really want it at some point to be OK for women and young girls to be sexy because I think that’s a power, a gift that we were given by God or the universe or whatever,” she says. “I think I’m a different kind of role model for young girls.” She thinks for a minute and adds with a smile: “But maybe not the kind America is comfortable with.”
This girl sure talks about being sexy a lot! Turns out she’s a (self-proclaimed) sexy role model for young girls… that’s just what young girls need today.
What do you guys think?
I’m from Europe and yes, women can be both sexy and smart, but i’d think the same applies to US, right? With all the plastic surgery, 40 year old singles having sex with younger men and pop-culture living from naked skin, sex already IS everywhere. And none of my friends are considered less intelligent just because of the number of men they’ve slept with. So i don’t think sexyness in itself is uncomfortable, it’s just getting a bit old playing the sexy gal and thinking all the world is at your feet if you show some skin. If you’re very sexual or just like skimpy clothes or flirting, you might be seen as a bimbo (not the least bit threatening IMHO), but a smart woman knows how not to let sex get in the way of being seen as a sain person who has more to offer than the looks.
I totally agree with you. Megan fox is always carrying on like we havent seen a girl act sexy before and the public is always criticizing her for being “sexy”.
i dont agree with you ladies. well actually in US you cant really have sex with many men and be considered very intelligent. at least not here in Miami (which is very liberal compared to many places in US). it is very frowned upon and you gotta keep it underwraps. i agree with megan, sure we’ve seen sexy girls before but she is possibly THE sexiest at the moment (agree with me or not, men love her and women wanna be her). she is in a special situation (with the bombshell status, loud mouth and only a couple movies where she didnt act much) that many might not understand or just wanna mock her. i think shes a great gal, much nicer than just about any girl i know.

Teenage girls do not need role models like her. Sex is everywhere nowadays and we could never call americans uptight.
Maybe she would earn more respect by talking about the latest books she has read or the charities she has helped…
she talks about what people ask her about. and also what we see in magazines isnt all she talks about, surely. its just what they know will sell. they ask her stuff like that all the time, then comilate it and publish it. she doesnt just go up to people and rant about sex and confidence. she must be asked to do so. dont hate

In relation to her comment, I think she’s right in that we’re less prudish about sex in Europe but it still varies. The UK would probably be considered prudish compared to France, for example. I think it’ll be different in the US as well, I mean i’m sure attitudes in New York and Chicago are different from those in what are dubbed the ‘bible belt’ states.
In the British media, sex is becoming less of a taboo and we tend to make very explicit jokes about it, women as well. I personally find these very contrived, as though we have to be extrovert about sex in order to break boundaries. I think good sexy role models are those that teach that sex appeal isn’t in thongs and fake boobs. Sexiness can be in confidence, presence, drive and homour. Of course clothes and body come into it but it can be done on different levels. There are many women like America Ferrera, Ferne Cotton, Toccara Jones and Janine Jansen (a violinist for those that don’t know) who are seen as being sexy more for their talent, personality and confidence than their bodies.
I guess Megan Fox is a more overt example of sexiness but I think we need a variety.

This is SO TRUE!!!! This is *exactly* how I feel as well. We should celebrate true talent, brilliance, passion, happiness and self-worth. Those are the types of people who should be role models.

Everything she is known for is not real. When I first saw photos of her I thought “Wow, she is perfect!” but now I know that her face is calculated and not real, that she is so ‘perfect’ thanks to plastic surgery. And, she has absolutely NO TALENT. Blah.
Even though it’s more than obvious she had rhinoplasty, I think she is beautiful! I’m from and live in America and yes, the country is uptight about sex(y)(ness). Honestly, I think Megan really is sexy by how she carries herself, not because she’s gotten a nose and a boob job.
She’s definitely the kind of celebrity I would generally reject as annoying, but there’s something pretty captivating about her that’s worth more than her pretty face.

As for not being concerned with being thought of as beautiful and sexy…Whatever happened to, “I’m too beautiful to get a role?” Seemed like she both noticed and cared then.

It’s really true that beautiful, sexy women who have brains can be much more successful than those who are not so pretty. But good looks without intelligence is nothing. Smart woman will always find a way how to use her good looks so that it could make her aprofit. However, I see many stunning girls here in my country (I’m from Europe) who have nothing to offer except their beauty. And it’s a pitty.
By the way, in my country women are expected to be modest and if they have lots of men they are simply called sluts. It’s so unfair but it’s only because of our old-fashioned society, which values old traditions.

Oh no! I rarely make these kinds of posts but if you think Megan Fox is an example of intelligence and beauty then I truly feel sorry for you! She is absolutely stunning but a complete airhead. Intelligence is not as subjective as beauty, defend her all you want but she’s average intelligence AT BEST.

I have no idea about the level of Megan’s intelligence, but what you’ve said to Casey can be reversed and applied to you as well: unless you personally know Megan, how can you say she is smart? None of us know. We can only speculate unless some people here have been friends with Megan for at least a few years.
She talks about being sexy alot, because thats the label we all have given her.. I actually agree with most of the things she said.. I dislike how for generations we endure this traditional socialization that puts women on the back burner. truth of the matter is, shes right! I love how everyone says ‘I’m from Europe’ as if it is a country. Europe consists of a wide range of countries from Russia to Norway to Italy to Bulgaria. Each with their own diverse culture and varying attitudes towards women and their sexuality.
I agree that women should embrace their sexuality and enjoy sexual freedom, but should maintain respect for themselves and others. Nuturing one’s intelligence and cultivating one’s talents should be done by women as a matter of course not as a alternative to being ‘sexy’. There is a difference between being sexy and being plain provocative, and I’m not sure which category Megan falls into…
I feel very stupid saying i’m from Europe since i never in “real life” refer to myself in such way, but i think it serves a purpose here, as Megan herself talked about “Europe” as a whole, though i’m propably just feeding into stereotypes.. I think many think of UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and maybe Russia when they think of Europe, but i don’t really care.
I still think what Megan says is old news and not 100 % accurate, but if she feels powerful the way she is then good for her. And definitely women should embrace their sexuality openheartedly, there’s just many ways to do that.

I’ve seen enough of her interviews to conclude that she is neither intelligent nor articulate. She gets by on her looks. I don’t see anything wrong with that, but that is how I believe it is.
As for saying she should keep her mouth shut, yes, I do think that. I think she would have better success if she kept her mouth shut considering some of the things she says. This happens to be a good interview for her. Am I going to go up to her and staple her mouth shut? No. So how exactly am I limiting her right to express herself? Don’t I also have a right to express my thoughts, which happen to be me wishing she wouldn’t say stupid things doing interviews?
And lastly, 1) I am smart enough to understand what she says, I just don’t like it, and 2) it’s not hard to be beautiful and smart, I see plenty of beautiful and intelligent women all the time, they just happen to not always be on TV.

Usually, I cringe at the things that come out of this girls mouth. And I’m really not a fan of her at all, but this, I think, is a really nice, real-sounding statement. I think it may have held more water if if came from someone else (because at this point in her career, most people just brush anything she has to say off) but it makes sense.
Not just society, but other women criticise each other for their promiscuity, and it often ends in hypocrisy. If we could just start to accept sexuality as not a bad thing, I think it could be really good for American society.

Actors often approve questions before they are asked by the interviewer. Megan knows that her career and reputation are based on her sex appeal. If she were bothered by these constant questions regarding her sexuality, she would certainly let them know. I don’t consider her dumb, but I wouldn’t consider her the sharpest tool in the shed either. I have become quite bored with her interviews because they’re all the same. I prefer a woman with a little more substance.
She talks about sex all the time, because thats what people ask about, because thats what sells. She knows it, they know it, we do exactly what they want and react like someone set off a stink bomb.
I actually think she’s quite intelligent, however she’s terrible with words. She’s said before that she chooses not to act smart/use big words to prove her intelligence, and ok, fine, but….Phrasing honey, phrasing. If she were better at saying what she meant I think she’d come off as smart, sexy, and interesting.
