Liv Tyler Is Against ‘Photoshopping’
August 6, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Liv Tyler by Versus

“I know what people look like, and I see what pictures look like before they’re airbrushed – my own and those of my friends – and every image is so manipulated. They’ll take a hair off your arm and get rid of a pore or freckle on your face.”
“Personally, I find imperfections and flaws charming and beautiful. I like it that all people don’t look the same.”
… says Liv.
Who agrees with her?

I absolutely agree. With photoshop literally every woman or man can become perfect and a model.
But doesn’t she get photoshopped? I’ve never seen any pictures of her on magazines to be honest.
she hasn’t come out in many magazine recently but she is or was the face of givenchy but there are a couple of pics where her figure’s obviously been altered.

either way no matter what this woman is definitely one of the most gorgeous women in the world, imo.
blah blah blah, i’ll believe it when I see actresses actually protest the sale of their own photoshop images by either saying no to the magazine editors, or encouraging their fans not to buy the magazine.
Depends on what the imperfections are. Honestly, if I was going to be on a magazine cover, I would LIKE them to remove the occasional pimple or pore, make my face symmetrical, make my eyes stand out…etc. I would want to look as good as possible even if it’s not 100% real.
But I would be bothered if I became unrecognizeable, and a lot of magazines do make their subjects unrecognizeable.
uh if i had been that gorgeous id be saying the same thing.
if i ever get plastic surgery she is my inspiration
We should’ve just stayed with black and white pictures… Everyone looks pretty and perfect on them anyway! =)
Live is stunning, she looks amazing even without being photoshopped. its people like SJP who are clearly over photoshopped when she’s got crows feet and wrinkles and they were there even in 1998 when SATC started. Vogue will always airbrush….i just hate it when they airbursh ppl who are clearly wrinkly.
I can’t quite put my finger on why, but I’ve always just really liked her.
Everyone’s saying pretty much the exact same things (anti-photoshop or anti-plastic surgery or whatever), so her comment is pretty unremarkable, but from her it just seems much more ‘real’ to me.
Agreed. Coming from her it does seem genuine. I’ve always thought Liv was a beautiful woman.
I completely agree. You see a lot of stars tweak so many things when they started out attractive….I feel the net result is just looking so standard, generic, and hollywood. Yes, they might photograph better from all angles afterward, but they end up looking kinda boring.
she’s so beautiful she wouldn’t need it! But i don’t think i’ve really seen her in magazines actually! i don’t really agree with photoshop in general, but if the person is unrecognisable that’s even worse!
One of the things I really hate about photoshop is the way they completely remove all traces of the skins natural appearance and texture. For example, when they are advertising skin products or foundation, every photo the skin looks the same, it doesnt even SHOW what the foundation or creme can achieve because it is just pure photoshop.
I also feel like many girls and young women wear too much makeup, removing all traces of their natural beauty, because we never SEE any natural beauty in the photos of celebrities we are bombarded with and girls are under increasing pressure to look more and more “perfect”.
Omg snoops, I completely agree with you on the part about make up.
It took me about 5 years of trial and error to find the right foundation, the right powder, the right eyeshadow…etc. And that’s all thanks to the fact that magazines and ads don’t tell me anything about how the product looks on skin. I had to go out and buy each item and test it.
I am not really anti-photoshop, but I really do wish that at least make up ads would use less photoshop and more “hey this is what you look like when you wear this.” In a way, I feel like the better companies would benefit from that kind of advertising because then people will see how great their product is.
But I feel like they’re too afraid to “compete” with photoshopped images…and the crappier make up companies won’t stop using photoshop because then it people would see how bad their product is.
I agree with you. I have olive skin but I also have these freckles on my cheekbones and on my nose. I thought it looked so much more “polished” to cover them up with a light powder. I would “even out” my skin. It’s funny, because what do those phrases really mean? And why is that necessary? I remember once my boyfriend commented that he couldn’t see the freckles he likes so much…I decided to not to cover them up anymore.
I OBVIOUSLY still cover the bags when necessary. Duh.
its just false advertising isn’t it? like if you read the bottom of a mascara ad, they always have in tiny writing a disclaimer saying ‘styled with false lashes’, or ‘lash inserts’ or my favourite -’enhanced in post production’ :0) There is just no point in them. go to the makeup counters and get a bunch of free make overs and demand samples – its the only way.
i agree with her. im now 22, but when i graduated high school our yearbook were photoshopped and people just simply didnt look like themselves. i was very mad because no one asked us or told us about it until we recieved our yearbooks.
anyways, i always found liv tyler carries herself very well
Oh whatever. It’s nice if she has the luxury to say that; some of us are ugly and need all the help we can get!
i’m kinda torn on this. on the one hand i do like natural, and i think alot of what is classed as flaws are what i would call charateristics. On the other hand, it seems so standard to present a false image, good or bad in the media, and they have always had a huge big bag of tricks even before photoshop, to help achieve this, from makeup and lighting, to angles, and filter lens, that i really don’t care what someone looks like on a perfume ad. I think celebrities should stop talking about this and start acting. take control of their own image and everytime they do a photo shoot demand to be given final say over the pictures or refuse to
I always liked her and thought she was one of the most beautiful women out there (at least of the famous ones), but sadly she doesn’t age very good. Somehow she always looks tired and a little washed out. She’s still incredibly beautiful, but I wonder if she stands by her comment in another 10 years.
It seems like celebrities are speaking out about body image a lot more these days. Photoshopping isnt neccessarily a bad thing. Its just that like others said, the model becomes unrecognizable. If only those photo editors didnt get so “photoshop” happy lol
I agree. Diversity to me equals beauty.
she is so god damn beautiful
days. Photoshopping isnt neccessarily a bad thing. Its just that like others said,
