Kelly Osbourne Shares Some Diet Tips
February 17, 2010 in Kelly Osbourne by Versus
“I’ve completely changed the way I eat since doing Dancing with the Stars. A trick I’ve learned is to eat just a little bit of something that has no carbs and no sugar in it before you go to sleep because it keeps your metabolism going. “
“They say you should never eat before you go to bed, but I’ve found just having a tiny little snack — like half an apple or something like that — before you go to sleep really helps.”
… says Kelly about the diet that helped her lose weight.

Hah, i know she meant unhealthy things with the carbs and sugar comment, but still, apple IS carbs and sugar
She’s looking really good, and it’s nice to see her committing to a healthier lifestyle.
LOL! Exactly:)
Oh c’mon people, stop villifying fruit. Are you seriously putting fruit in the same category of cakes and donuts and pasta?
Fruit: TONS water, fiber, ESSENTIAL vitamins and minerals, a BIT of carbs, a TINY BIT of fructose.
My advice to anyone trying to keep healthy is – eat ALL the fruit you want. Really as much as you can (hint, you won’t be able to eat too much since it’s so filling). Baring some exotic fruits which really have no place in our temperate climate, fruit is 100% GOOD for you.
I never said that fruit was bad. NOT AT ALL! I simply said that it DOES have carbs and sugar. I KNOW it’s not in the same category as pizza, donuts, etc.
Anyway, I eat a lot of fruit. Apples and oranges everyday. Pomegrante, grapes, and blueberries several times a week. I AGREE with your advice. I also would tell anyone that a half apple before bed is fine.
That was my point too. I eat plenty of carbs personally, and i think many ppl are afraid of them in vain, but as a person who takes quotes too literally, i couldn’t help but laugh at Kelly’s contradiction. Yay to fruits and veggies
Shoot, a slice of pizza or a donut once in a while wouldn’t kill anyone either. As long as “donut” doesn’t mean a dozen donuts in one sitting.
Carbs are definetly villified nowadays, just like fat and cholesterol used to be…it’s like diet fads cycle. I think most people could relax a little when it comes to cutting carbs. The bigger culprits are the bad fats (grease) and bad cholesterol. Sugar is just sugar…it’s all glucose when it hits the cells no matter where it comes from, whether processed food or fruits.
True!
These days ‘carbs’ has such negative connotations. Everyone associates carbs with junk food like pizza, chips, chinese and indian food, chocolate, sweets crisps etc but that isn’t the end of it.
Fruit and vegetables are also carbs and fibre is a slow releasing carb.
I’m forever hearing people say that they’re cutting out carbs to lose weight. People think they’re so fattening when really they’re not. It’s the oil and grease added to the junk foods I mentioned above that really makes them fattening.
1gram carbs = 4 calories
1gram fat = 9 calories
Unless you go on the Atkins you will never really not eat carbs! It’s just that we eat an excess of carbs these days that they are doing us damage. In moderation they are fine
I like your comments.
Fruits are very good.
A human body need to consume every type of food. Just must find an equillibrum between them.
Don’t forget! Some of us need more protein or vitamin or sugar, depending on the metabolism of our bodyes and the activities we doing.
(when I say more protein I’m not mean double portion of steak. LOL)
This. If you make sure you have a balanced diet, you actually can be slim and eat everything. Including pizza or donut or chocolate. You will not suddenly gain weight and get fat and sloppy if you eat 10g of chocolate once in a while. If your body carves for something really badly, most likely it needs it (assuming the person has a good lifestyle, not going to say healthy because it is too risky…)
i hope she will stay like this.
her figure is very nice.
wow, she looks amazing!! I think this is the perfect weight for her, she clearly wasn’t meant to weigh 100 pounds, but she looks much better now that she lost a little bit of weight.
She looks AMAZING!
It’s very american to think that you need to snack or make 6 small meals a day to get your metabolism going…
Maybe it is because I’m French, but I find those tips quite suprizing : if you are not hungry before going to bed, just don’t eat ! Even half an apple. Why would you force yourself to eat if you’re not hungry ?
Funny how even dieting is cultural… I think you should eat when you are really hungry, and you should really eat, at the table, with plenty of healthy and tasty food, not nibble on celery sticks or half a fruit, and then not eat anything until you are hungry again !
Plus, I’m sure that our body is releaved not to be constantly digesting.
I think it depends on your lifestyle. For athletes the 6 mini meals constantly fuels their body for their instense activity and workouts. Unfortunately most people don’t even workout and therefore don’t need all the meals. I also think that some don’t know what a normal size portion is let alone a “mini-meal” portion.
IMO, journaling is the best. Calories in vs. Calories out for weight loss. I find that I snack a lot less when I see how quickly it adds up.
yep, completely agree with you! I am not an athlete, but I do intense workouts and cardio 5-6 days per week. In order for me to lose weight with this routine, a trainer suggested I eat anywhere between 1700-1900 calories per day. If I don’t get as much cardio in, drop it to 1500-1700 calories a day. Do you know how much I would have to eat in one sitting (or three: breakfast, lunch, dinner), to get all of these calories in?! I like the ‘snacking throughout the day’ theory. I think it makes sense to spark your metabolism, and to keep your body full of nutrients so that when I do that intense cardio session, I know I’m no deprived of anything and don’t have to worry about my blood sugar levels dropping because I haven’t eaten enough that day.
Well I don’t think it’s “forcing” yourself to eat half an apple unless you’re stuffed, because it’s barely anything. And it’s less than 50 calories.
Also our bodies are made constantly digest, especially when we sleep, so it’s nice to throw in something healthy in there before dozing off.
I am not from USA,but its proved that having small meals is the best way to lose weight and activate the metabolism.I also think that If you eat when you are really really hungry you will probably eat a lot of food ,and not precisally fruits or veggies.
That hasn’t been proven.
People find that smaller meals help them to lose weight but studies have shown that this is not more effective in principle to having 3 square meals a day. For someone that is constantly hungry then smaller more frequent meals would be better because they wouldn’t have to wait longer to eat but someone that has patience to wait longer for a bigger meal is neither at an advantage or disadvantage if the two people were consuming the same number of calories and using the same during exercise.
I don’t go by eating 6 small meals either. I eat breakast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, evening snack (before bed). I don’t skip out on anything during my main meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). For example, breakfast: 2 pieces wheat toast with egg whites, and an apple with skim milk, then morning snack maybe some grapes and cheese or something. Lunch: turkey sandwich with a tossed salad, afternoon snack: strawberries with skim milk, dinner: chicken breast with a sweet potato, and evening snack: graham cracker with peanut butter. Its not like you have to eat a green bean each meal. Like someone else said, know your portions, and just be healthy and sensible about it!
Actually I am digging what you mean. And the proof of that (other people are right too but from the dif point of veiw on eating habits) is that French people are very very slim, although your cousine is amazing, not always only healthy, low calorie (one of my favorite ones). Also French people (like a lot of people in Europe) are very active, in there people even just walk the way much more than in any other places.
And when we are talking about 6 meals/low carbs/low fat/high protein, etc. – it is not like your naturally eat what you want now, you are setting a plan to eat every 2 hours, the same is about carbs and fats, etc.
But actually that is why 90 % (what is also proved 1 million times by scientists) of people have yo-yo dieting effect. When you restrict yourself so it leads to binging in the end (not all are so strong like Vikky B). This is how our brains work, we want something we cannot/are prohibited to have.
Sorry but why would I take diet tips from a fat person?
obviously kelly’s diet doesn’t work or she would be thin!
Wtf are u on about?
She was bigger before and has lost a significant amount of weight so someone else in her shoes may want to take advice from her.
she’s not shoving her diet tips down your throat!
Not all people diet to be thin (why to people think that?) Some people just want to stay in reasonable shape and try to be healthier to stay so. If you were huge before you’re most likely going to be grateful to he in a healthy range and not necessarily aiming for thin.
Diet depends on what you eat and exercise and it depends on the extent that you these as to how thin you’ll get
Maybe If you were a bigger girl like her you could use her diet tips.I mean she was fatter than this. She is skinny is you compared with K. Clarkson.
Please Terri, just google image her. She used to be a whale compared to now. She looks like a whole new person.
She is chunky in my opinion. This is probably the best Kelly has ever looked but I don’t really think I’d take diet tips from her. The dancing is probably what made her lose weight.
Not everyone is trying to be super thin. Some people want to get a better body composition, i.e. lower body fat percentage and more muscle mass. She has definitely achieved this from all her dancing.
I almost always eat an apple before bed, it’s my midnight snack! For some reason it helps me get to sleep better, when I’ve had a snack and then I can just doze off…So I think Kelly might be onto something, it definitely helps with cravings that is for sure.
I have herd that eating anything with calcium (does not neccesarily have to dairy) helps you feel more relaxed and sleep better. May I suggest celery as it really liver cleansing and has a good amount of calcium. If you can’t eat it on it’s own add a tiny bit of nut butter.
When i was a kid, my parent always used to tell me that drinking a glass of warm milk will make me sleep better. And it did. I prefer tea now.
eating before going to sleep is my sin
I think she looks beautiful! Quite the change from a few years back. She looks a little like Carla Gugino in that pic (well her face does).
She’s adorable a feisty little thing and she has lost ALOT of weight so I would take advice from her
g
OBVIOUSLY, Kelly doesn’t know what a carb is… Or what sugar is, for that matter.
Good for Kelly this is the best I have ever seen her.
Okay so this is why you shouldn’t listen to celebrities. they just like to babble on about shit that isn’t even true. FRUIT HAS CARBS!
I dunno about that little tip that she shared. Your metabolism slows down automatically as you get closer to the time that you go to sleep: your body knows when it’s time to go to sleep, and it doesn’t need to use nearly as much energy. Eating before bed will not speed up your metabolism even close to enough for it to make you drop weight.
I don’t see why she thinks this; where’s the proof?
If it works for her, then it obviously WORKS for her. I also agree, I usually eat my dinner at about 6 PM. And I go to sleep at 10-12 PM. That a long time to be not eating anything. I get peckish again at about 9. If I just don’t eat, I have a much bigger appetite the following day, and it takes ages to go to sleep (have you ever tried to go to sleep hungry? It doens’t work). While if I just have a little something to calm my stomach, I sleep well, and wake up and I’m able to eat my regular breakfast, and not blow 1000 calories before 8 o’clock.
Kelly is looking pretty fantastic. She’s so cute now!
Where did Kelly get her shoesv in the photo?
She looks good!! She has some monstrous calves right?! Wow! I bet she can’t find boots anywhere
Please excuse the belated comment. I know this post is way old.
That said, her calves might look huge, but keep in mind she’s only about 5’2.” I’m 5’0″ tall and my calves are super muscular — they look as big if not bigger than hers, but they’re actually only 14″ around at the widest point. Most knee high boots are between 13.5″ and 15.5″ so her legs are probably just about perfect for them.
Of course, she might avoid boots anyway because depending on the style/color, boots can make short/thick legs look even shorter/thicker.
