Kate Winslet Is Still Talking About Her Figure
April 30, 2009 in Kate Winslet by Versus

Here’s part of the interview from Marie Clarie:
British Oscar winner Kate Winslet has revealed exclusively to Marie Claire magazine that she was bullied as a child and lived with the nickname ‘Blubber’.
‘I was bullied for being chubby. Where are they now!’ she jokes.
Despite her runaway success this year, winning her long-awaited Oscar for best actress for her role in The Reader, Winslet admits: ‘Even now I do not consider myself to be some kind of great, sexy beauty. Absolutely not.’
She is, however, at peace with her looks, having come to terms with her body as she has got older. ‘I don’t mind the way I’m ageing… I think I look my age, and that’s fine.
‘I don’t think I look younger than 33 and I don’t think I look particularly older than 33. I think I’m sort of holding it together.’
As the face of Lancôme’s Trésor fragrance, Winslet has used her status to be an outspoken advocate of real-sized women: ‘I do think it’s important for young women to know that magazine covers are retouched. People don’t really look like that. In my films I might look glamorous, but I’ve been in hair and make-up for two hours.’
During filming for the award-winning The Reader, Winslet even confessed to wearing body make-up for her nudity scenes. ‘With the nudity in The Reader, for example, even I was like, “Damn, I look good.” And that was the lighting – it was a bit of body make-up. I don’t believe in pretending those things don’t go on.’

Kate Winslet has an awesome figure for her age. I don’t think she needs to be any thinner. She has always had a curvy, feminine shape– it’s just her natural body type. And it’s good to hear that she is speaking out about the weight and body image issues we have in our society today. We could all use a few of her words!!
BTW– I absolutely adore her jacket in this pic. She seems to have some good fashion sense (or just a really good stylist)!
LOL, I could have told you what this article was about without even reading it…she was once fat, now shes not, and even though shes not “hollywood skinny” shes proud of her body. we get it, now move ON, kate winslet.
She was never fat!
agreed ! she was never fat she always look great she has nice eyes can we just focus on her eyes and lips ?!!! we’re not perfect we all have fabs and flabs so what ?! it’s GOD’s job ( ok and for Godless people it’s NATURE’s job lol)
I wasn’t saying she was fat back in the early days of her career. In fact, I think she had a close-to-perfect womanly figure in “Titanic”. But when she was a kid, she WAS fat. I’m not talking about “curvy” or “voluptuous”, but fat. As in, overweight. I’m not making this up, she talks about it all the time.
I think she looks great.
I think she looks great too…she is a REAL woman and isn’t ashamed of it.
Comments like these are so ignorant. You don’t need to be curvy to be a “real” woman. Women come in all shapes and sizes. I’m a size 0 and I don’t consider myself any less womanly than Kate Winslet or Kim Kardashian or any of the other curvy bombshells, thank you very much.
I think what this poster means is that Kate Winslet represents the curvy woman who doesn’t aspire to be the size 0/2 Hollywood aesthetic or the emaciated runway model. And that’s not to say that really thin women are all emaciated or aren’t real women. Of course women come in all different shapes and sizes, but the media and the fashion world has tried to portray the size 0/2 as the most desired or beautiful and a lot of women are fed up with it.
