Jessica Simpson: “Eat whatever makes you feel good”
June 9, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Jessica Simpson by Versus

Jessica Simpson wants to share a piece of advice:
“For me, it’s just eat whatever makes you feel good.”
“Work out whenever you want to. Just take care of yourself.”
… said Jessica at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in May 2010.
Do you agree with her advices?

First? She’s curvy but you can’t tell she’s fat because she is NOT.
Eat whatever makes you feel good??!
That is not a good idea. Feelings and food shouldn’t go together! Food is for nutrition, not pastime. This is the mindset that makes (especially) Americans so overweight!!
Hmmm I wouldn’t take that advice…lol That’s like a couch potato’s advice
not really…she didn’t say : eat whatever tastes good, she said what makes you feel good. and i doubt a couch potato feels good.
she actually looks really good here. if that dress had been cut off at the knee it would be perfect for her. i sort of do agree with her, within reason, i mean life is too short to always eat lettuce isn’t it?
i tooootally agree!
her comment is ok to en extent….you NEED excercise and NEED healthy food to be healthy and have a long, full life.
personally i would definitely sacrifice eating unhealthy food because i believe there is a lot more to experience in the
world than junk food. But then again i don’t really crave heaps unhealthy foods…
Well I don’t think it’s really advice, more of a personal philosophy since she started off “For me,”
She is looking in better shape than she did 6 months ago.
i agree with her. what’s the purpose of living a long, healthy life if you weren’t happy?
that said, i personally workout whenever i can and eat a lot of high protein things (quinoa, hummus, beans, fish, etc) and fruit… but, if i think eating a donut will make me happy, why not?
i am right there with you, i’m the same way!
i also think jessica looks really nice in this dress, it flatters her even though it’s a little awkward/tight in the bust but that’s more to do with the size of her boobs.
exactly! i feel good after eating a salad, beansoup etc. i don’t think she necessarily meant junkfood, fatty foods, sugar and such. just food that makes you good! i love fresh salmon, smoked fish, filet mignon, lentels, milk, carrots, rye bread, broccoli, cherries, onions, strawberries and so on, i eat exactly what i like cause i like a lot of healthy food BUT some junkfood now and then. one does not exclude the other
Actually, no, because it can be interpreted the wrong way. But she’s probably sick of talking about her diet and health, so she’s saying something extremely short just to make journalists happy.
oh and also- her figure looks amazing and very hourglass in that dress
yes, she is really cute
It depends how it is interpreted, “eat whatever makes you feel good” doesn’t mean “eat junk food and never work out”, cos personally too much junk food makes me sick, and working out makes me feel good, a piece of chocolate sometimes makes me feel good too, so I understand her statement as: “listen to your body”, in that case it makes sense and it’s a good advice
exactly!
is she serious? Like we would take her advice
This is how I live my life.
She does look good in this photo….but seriously if I ate anything that made me “feel good” I’d be the size of precious. Jessica is just saying whatever to make the journalists leave her alone. Smart Girl actually. However, I have to disagree. For health reasons, I cannot eat anything I want, no matter how skinny I am.
You also have to read between the lines. She may be saying, if you want to have a bite of something and it make you feel good, then have it. She looks healthy. I think the main thing she is saying is, take care of yourself, don’t go on some crazy diet like starving yourself or letting yourself over eat. It’s all about balance.
i think she pulls off that figure… and it seems very hard for her nowadays to be skinny, i’m sure that was different when she was 20. anyway, imo she is not the brightes light on our planet and advice from her always seems kind of awkward.. her make up is awful here, tooooo much highlighter around the eyes, she has a very pretty natural face!
I have had eating disorder since i was 12 and i think her advice is great,i mean we cant survive eating only fruits our body needs everything even chocolate and I am happy i realise that before it was too late…and I’m sure that we wont get fater if we eat a litlle bit of our favorite food…I mean my metabolisam is really slow now but in spite of all I am still size 0
even if you do get fatter it doesn’t take anything away from who you are. i would never pick a friend or a collegue or buy an album or go watch a film because the people involved are thin. WOuld you? why do we expect others to judge us on our weight? sadly some of the people on this site do, but I don’t believe they do it in real life. Just when it is annonymous celebrities.
I dont expect others to judge me on my weight…I’m just saying that if somebody wants to look and feel nice and to be healthy shouldnt overdo with his favorite food and nobody has to starve themselves to be slim especailly if you’re active…
Off topic and most likely 100% wrong but are there potential signs of her having undergone a facelift? Maybe it’s the way the make-up has been done that’s deceiving me. Anywho, I think her body looks nice but there’s definitely room for improvement as with anything else.
njaaa, when i get a lil bit fuller, all the weight goes to my face and arms = supertight face. fat makes your face look younger
i have a similar bone structure and body type (vase/hourglass) as jessica, and we seem to gain the same too.
she is a goblet, slim lower half, if i am understanding body types right. she seems, because her lower and upper half are so disparate in size, one of the easier ones to judge.
I think that Jessica is normally a vase/v-shape
yeah, but she has gained and vases/mixed with inverted triangle gains on their upper half. check out her earlier pics, she looks proportionate when she is slimmer. now when she’s carring more weight, it changes her body type a lil bit.
she’s annoying i’d like her to stop all this bodytalk and go back to singing pop tunes…cos no matter how much i don’t like her she does have an amazing voice
P.S. This dress is gorgeous
she’s beautiful i think shes right. as long as you are healthy and happy
Is it just me or does she have a short neck?!? I’ve always noticed it, though I think she is very pretty, but in all her photos something seems to be off. I’ve noticed that her neck is a bit stubby and short compared to other hollywood starlets. Tell me someone, am I right?
I have to agree, her neck is getting shorter, and her face looks too fat for her body, i wonder if she is just getting lipo on the body but her face and neck are giving away the obvious weight gain.
I don’t know about this advice… I agree that maybe she was just tired of theses kind of questions and made a short answer. she is a pretty girl, she could loose a few pounds to look better, her upper area is really big.
Um, did anyone read the latter part of her statement where she says you should work out when you can and take care of yourself?
I don’t see how this can be intepreted the wrong way if you pay attention to the full comment as posted here.
All she is saying is to be sensible, take care of yourself, but don’t deny yourself what you need either. I still think she is fat though, sorry if that offends anyone but to me she is fat.
Jessica’s comment was short, but got the point across and made sense. She seems to be saying more or less to live your life and be happy instead of depriving yourself and working yourself out to being completely fatigued.
People should know to eat 90 some odd percent healthy and to be active in some form. But, you should treat yourself every now and then and not be working yourself out to the point you don’t even want to do it anymore. Eat for fuel and work out to be healthy not to be something your body may not be meant to be.
As for Jessica being “fat” she isn’t fat. She may be slightly chubby, but I can guarantee she is not in the overweight category. Probably just at the higher end of her BMI, but it works for her. It seems like her body was meant to be this size and she is embracing it which is refreshing in today’s world of diet/starvation trends.
In HollyWEIRD most of those girls are underweight because they are told to be to get roles. That in no way is healthy either. With Jessica actually being in a healthy range of course she looks “bigger” but as I said she is in no way overweight and if you think she is “fat” you have serious body image issues.
I agree with her, and for most people when they eat better and exercise, they feel better. Taking pressure off of yourself to eat perfectly and exercise constantly will make it more enjoyable to be healthy. At least that’s what seems to work for me.
Ummmm…. I don’t know if I agree with her exactly. Eat whatever makes you feel good in very small amounts. Don’t just sit there eating chocolate and chicken wings screamin “Hey YALL!” for all your days. She looks very bloated in my opinion. Maybe not fat cause she has clearly gotten some lipo done – but for sure chunky.
Kind of OT, but does her under-eye concealer look a shade to light?
she is soooo right. celebrities are not doctors, not dieticians, they shouldn’t be handing out health or diet adivice, so saying do what makes you feel good instead of listing diet rules seems a very good thing to me. plus i am really really sick of the whole health nazi thing going on lately. it is not a sin to be fat. you might not be happy, but at the end of the day it is your body, your choice. While i agree with the government putting information out there so that we can make healthy choices, or get help if we need it, it is still a choice. if the worst thing you ever do in your life is eat too much, you’re doing better than most people.
I agree with her to some extent, but her second statement seems to contradict her first. She says eat whatever you want, but take care of yourself. If you eat whatever you want, whenever you want, that’s not taking care of yourself. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t ever have junk food, but it still doesn’t make sense to eat it all the time, because that’s just unhealthy. Still, I understand that there are people who just enjoy food so much that they are willing to deal with the side effects (health problems, weight gain) and that’s fine. But they should still realize the downside of the food they are putting into their body.
Actually, the two statements are perfectly congruous, though perhaps stated in the wrong order; if you start to exercise when you’re feeling tired/stiff/like you need to detox, your body will tell you what it craves. That might be something with sugar or fat, in which case you absolutely should eat it. However, you may find that a twinkie isn’t the kind of sugar or fat your body really wants. I had a friend who was a runner and sometimes she would just have a couple of tablespoons of honey. Her whole philosophy was to listen to your body’s cravings. Sometimes you crave salt, animal fat, and those other things that the media tells you are bad for you. Unless you have food sensitivities (which can cause cravings for foods you shouldn’t have and can be diagnosed with a nutritionist), you should always listen to what your body says. That’s the gist of what she’s saying.
Versus, what body type would you say she is? i would have thought Vase but someone else said goblet?
She is a V shape for sure – she gains weight on her boobs, shoulders, neck, face, upper arms and upper abdomen.
that i think would only work for some people. I for example eat only when i want to and what makes me feel good. BUT i only WANT to eat once a day, and its usually some chicken and brocolli. So that works for me. One of my best friends on the other hands ALWAYS wants to eat and all she eats is cookies, pasta, pizza.. and of course, shes not a skinny girl. people like that cant eat what makes them feel good and expect a healthy slim life
Eat what tastes good, as long as it’s healthy!
She obviously does (=
What’s wrong with her face?
looks like a young cliff richard behind her!
also, i dont think eating strictly healthy foods guarantees a long healthy life.
i know people who did younger, who ate very well, never smoked and god knows what. I dont think any of us know the secret to longevity. we are also quite brainwashed by the health media mafia, too.
that said, i love my veggies, and loathe fast food.
so maybe it is true that the body knows its own desires.
people who *died* younger, sorry.
Not *did*
I totally agree with her,we have to live and to exisist in this life. Love the dress.hair and make up,she looks beautiful and she looks healty and happy and that`s the most important thing in life
that’s a speech, she’s right … you should focuse on what makes you feel good than on what you want to look like, which is often fastidious to achieve. But eventhough you know what makes you feel good and what doesn’t, it’s also hard to stick to it when you’re too stubborn and, no matter what, want to reach your goal (and i know what i’m talking about aha). It’s the same everywhere, no pain no gain …
[...] And I hate to quote the smartest woman in the world, Jessica Simpson, but she’s right when she says [...]
She’s right in what she’s saying. Women tend to deprive of their pleasures in order to fit socially. The problem is when your pleasures include eating KFC daily
I am the kind of person that I enjoy eating, tasting food .. But I can honestly say that the satisfaction of looking in the mirror after I lost some extra pound and feeling confident about myself is bigger than satisfying a temporary food desire.
Ahhhh she is so annoying. She must have a waist girdle on because her face, neck and arms are really chubby. She does need to stop with the diet advice it is ridiculous!! I liked her so much more when she was thin..
I agree with her for the most part, but mostly for myself. I almost never watch what i eat, i just eat when I want and stop when I’m full, and I’m a size 00-1/2 (depending on the sizing). I don’t intentionally go to the gym every day either, but I’m on my feet all day and don’t have a car at college so it forces me to walk all the time. I don’t think that to be thin and healthy you need to go out of the way and pain yourself to be that way; just listen to your body when it comes to food and be active. Maybe my views will change when I’m older though (i’m only 20) and when my metabolism slows down. My parents gave me the gift of good genetics (and good eating patterns… raised vegetarian, never eaten meat before, eat produce at every meal). A lot of people, though, are not so lucky. Seeing as over 2/3rds of the United States is overweight…. we seem to have trouble doing this. I don’t know if we should be promoting “eat whatever makes you feel good” when it is clearly causing an epidemic at the moment.
