Size 2, Size 12, Whatever! Crystal, Alessandra and Brooklyn’s Bikini Cover
May 5, 2010 in Alessandra Ambrosio, Brooklyn Decker, Crystal Renn, Hot Models by Versus

Crystal Renn, Alessandra Ambrosio and Brooklyn Decker are in their bikinis on the June issue of Glamour Magazine, looking pretty under the headline: “Size 2, size 12, Whatever! They All Look Hot to Us”
Let’s see what they have to share in the interview:
How do you stay in shape?
CRYSTAL RENN: Over Christmas I went hiking in Patagonia, and I fell in love with activity again. On the mountain, it’s about feeling proud that my body allows me to see such beautiful things.
You don’t have a rail-thin build. Was it hard to find your place [in modeling]?
BROOKLYN DECKER: I got successful once I accepted I’m athletic, I have boobs. I set my own standard.
You were seen as a “curvy” model at Prada this spring, but I read a blog saying you’re “too skinny.” What gives?
ALESSANDRA AMBROSIO: It’s always a drama. If I know I’m healthy, that’s all that matters.
Here are the 3 girls (the unphotoshopped versions) while shooting (see the post HERE):

See more pictures from this shoot on the next page!
P.S.: Post-Photoshop, the girls really don’t seem that many sizes apart!

they are so annoying with that. stop being so proud of yourself becaus you have boobs and curves. i have these too.
Alessandra ambrosio looks bonny on the second pic’.
I guess they are all retouched, but comparing with the candid I’d say that Crystal is the one they photoshopped the most, or at least it’s more obvious.
i know, they made her at least 15lb thinner and shopped in a ton of muscle tone to make her look healthy.
crystal is my favorite
LOVE
I know what you mean, girl. She makes me swoon.
Crystal looks the best!
i love seeing the real non-photoshop pics. yea, those girls are real as opposed to edited version which sells magazines.
I dont understand when Pudgy became the same as curvy. I feel like you can be skinny, and still have the waist to hip ratio to make you curvy.
your waist to hip ratio is maintained untill ur so overweight that ur “muffintop/Spare tire” becomes a gut which is wider than ur hips.
And For three pretty women, none of these pics do them justice.
I feel like they all have horrible smiles on the Mag Cover
I agree about the skinny/curvy thing! It’s obnoxious.
i agree. curvy is a shape, not a weight…but none of these girls are pudgy!
maybe not in the photoshopped pictures, but crystal is pretty pudgy in the 2nd one…
even in the unphotoshopped photo of crystal she is NOT pudgy. yeah, she has more body fat than the other two…but honestly, not a whole lot more than brooklyn. crystal is a healthy weight…and to be honest, if i saw her on the beach i would think ‘she has a nice body.’
She is a little chubby… but not at all how I would picture a plus sized model.
I agree! It suchs, I’m a very small hourglass/vase and like…. When I go to magazines in the curvy section which I AM its always women whose bodys do not resemble mine at all! Most of their ‘curvy’ options are actually overweight/apple shaped, not hourglass or vases. It makes small curvy girls a forgotten category
But agreed-none of them are large and they’re all curvy in their own ways
I know exactly what you’re talking about! I have a classic hourglass shape, but am only 5’1 and 95 lbs. I have curves, they’re just fit to my size. It’s so annoying when mags say, “Perfect Jeans for YOUR body type!” but then you don’t match any of them. Ugh curvy rant.
LOL so true. It seems like they call anyone above a size 12 curvy even if they’re clearly not. They’re just trying to be nice and calling them curvy instead of overweight and/or fat. I know my body type is a pear shape/curvy figure, but I don’t call myself curvy I say fat cause that’s what I am at the moment. Just tell it like it is and stop making up categories just so somebody can feel better about themselves.
I agree that curvy is a shape not a size but you do require a bit of meat to pull off the full curvy effect.
brooklyn’s hips make her waist look really wide…
I know! I don’t envy her body type.
We all know Alessandra is not a size two.
what size is she then – at 5’10 i’d say she is a size 2
What are her measurements? That will tell you the answer. Size 2 is approx measurements 32-33″ bust, 25″ waist and 34-35″ hips.
she’s like 5’7… and dont believe her measurements
almost every measurement released by agencies is a lie. apparently heidi klum is 34-24-34, only an inch bigger on each measurement than chanel iman… (same listed height also)
Oooh, Alessandra looks like a malnourished child in the second picture. Her stomach is scary…I don’t think the light is too forgiving in the second pic, none look all that great. But for the final cover, they look amazing.
I still prefer Alessandra.
How can Crystal still be a model? I have no problem with curves (Brooklyn looks just right) but she´s so much too much. They need to photoshop her to death until she looked hot enough to be put in that magazine, I mean, with these standarts even my grandma could model.
the comments about crystal are sarcastic, right? i mean they photoshopped the hell out all of them…but crystal is actually only *slightly* heavier than brooklyn. and probably got less photoshop than alessandra. alessandra has her own body type and is beautiful in her way – but they needed to do more to her! they smoothed her hips and ribs, as well as softened her face! i really hope you were using sarcasm that doesn’t translate on the internet lol!
Brooklyn is hardly curvy, she just had big boobs. Crystal is definitely curvy and looks fab here. To say she is too big to model is ridiculous, not every model needs to be a size 2!
well I think boobs do make you curvier…curves aren’t only about a small waist… hips, ass and boobs add curves too… for example, if Kelly Brook lost her boobs she would still be curvy, but less curvy than now. That said, Brooklyn isn’t the curviest thing around but she’s kind of curvy. And Crystal isn´t that curvy either, her waist isn’t that great and she has no boobs or anything in the candid.
Personally, I think all 3 are good looking women, each attractive in their own way, but nothing incredible without the photoshop. They are good choices for this article though, all different sizes and different shapes.
Please Refer to my post down the bottom of the page.
Big boobs only make the person MORE curvy if they already posesess a significant waist/hip ratio. Otherwise they are just a straight figure with boobs and that does not equal curvy whatsoever.
uh – troll much??
omg! what did they do? what is the point of ‘emrace all sizes’ when they’re all the same size?!
I don’t think they are ove-photoshoped, the mag choose a pic in the “best” angle to the cover. The way Crystal is posing makes her look slimmer….
Anyway, they are all gorgeous
I love the way Alessadra poses on the pic with the white swimsuit.
Incredible. We finally get a magazine that CORRECTLY tries to portray a variety of body shapes without trying to be a martyr about it, and people are still the same.
“Oh Crystal is fat.” “Oh Alessandra looks like a malnourished child” “Brooklyn has no hips”
It’s exactly as I keep saying. People don’t care about OTHER body shapes being considered attractive. They only care that their OWN body shape is, and will criticize any other body shape when given the opportunity to.
I know this is a site about discussing body shapes, but I would think that at least on a post like this some of you would get the point and tone it down a little…
Casey! So agree with you!
I think this is an amazing photoshoot etc. I really do not understand the negativity here.
I agree with your observations, Casey, but you probably won’t agree with my conclusions. What I think these comments reveal is that the “every size and shape is beautiful” propaganda is just that — propaganda. In reality people still have a pretty narrow definition of beauty and secretly continue to judge everyone around them for their flaws (including themselves — i.e. hating your own body), and all of that comes out anonymously on these types of sites.
I personally don’t find the narrow definition of beauty problematic, b/c I believe in truth and objectivity. I think that objectively, that which is biologically healthy and indicates reproductive fitness is that which is considered beautiful. For example: A propensity to gain weight in the middle instead of in the hips (aka a ruler figure) biologically means little estrogen and diminished fertility — so that’s the underlying reason why it’s considered unattractive. So, if you’re an apple shape, you’re less attractive than an hourglass shape, for that parameter. I know it’s harsh and it makes you feel bad when it’s YOU who’s got the apple figure, but it’s the truth. How many girls with an apple figure wouldn’t want an hourglass figure instead? I’m pretty sure most would, b/c secretly, they all agree on which one is more attractive.
I get upset with the modern attempt to pretend like we can make things otherwise just by saying that they’re so, b/c it makes me feel as though I’m living in some kind of Orwellian world where I’m forced to pretend that I believe things I know aren’t true. So that’s why I’m relieved to see that, in the safety of anonymity, people stop spouting all that pc bullsh-t and instead tell it like it is.
I actually very much agree with you Jane. I have studied this before in undergrad. I believe there are 3 universal markers of beauty…symmetry in the face, average facial features, and an hourglass figure in women (although that one is kind of iffy).
All of those things serve as signs of genetic fitness, and therefore high reproductive value, like you’ve said. That is why we consider them attractive.
That also goes for things like clear skin. Even though something like acne is normal and common, we don’t find it attractive because it reminds us of blisters, and blisters are not a sign of health. Even voice is judged. People who have nice voices tend to have more symmetrical faces, which is a sign of good genes.
Because we very much agree, I think you might have misunderstood my original comment. I am not saying that everyone and everything is beautiful and that we should accept all. I understand that, that is wishful thinking, and like you, I don’t believe that we should exactly strive for that. It doesn’t seem to make sense from a biological perspective.
But when you have women who appear to be healthy along the above lines, and seem to have a good genetic makeup, I don’t understand the excessive hate expressed towards them. I see alot of thin women hating on bigger women, and vice versa, when the truth is, both CAN be considered attractive, biologically.
For example, a size 2 woman who has an hourglass figure, clear skin, nice hair, white teeth, is no better nor worse than a size 10 woman with an hourglass figure, clear skin, nice hair, white teeth.
I think largely the hate stems from insecurity, and wanting one’s own figure or figures similar to it to be considered superior to other figures. It just evokes negativity from people that have issues with their own body and they feel a strong need to justify it.
That’s what is bothering me.
Oh come on… Physical biological reasons are true to a certain point, but personality, media and social conditioning go waaaaaaay far! Especially now that we’re in the 21st century and we don’t behave like cavepeople anymore lol (i.e. going solely by bio/physiological reasons)… by biological reasons, men are also naturally supposed to have multiple partners — does that mean we have to throw out marriage and monogamous relationships? Of course not!!!
Same with the beauty issue. I mean I’ve seen of my best friends, who’s got that clear skin, hip-to-bust ratio going (don’t know about facial symmetry but she sure was a stunner), get dumped by her boyfriend for a short, but cute “pudgier” girl, just because the other chick had a brighter, happier personality than my friend.
Confidence is beautiful – no matter what your freakin hip to bust ratio yadayadayada. I think this is part of what Glamour is trying to promote. i.e. everyone is beautiful, so be confident in your body, exude even more beauty…
Although I am quite sure that in theory what Casey explained was true, because I too have heard about humans being unconsciously attracted to physical signs of fertility/health, I believe people are far more complex than that, and so many other factors have to be taken into account. So Jenna118 is right, character, confidence, and personal preference means that some men will go for the pudgy girl with the ebullient personality, others will fall in love with a girl who has no hips even though they aren’t ideal for procreation… that is the beauty of love, and life
Personality is extremely important, but looks are just as important. Looks are what attracts members of the opposite sex, but the personality is what keeps them. So actually, looks are more important than personality because without looks men are not drawn to a women in the first place.
Tries to portray CORRECTLY?!? Honestly, have you seen that cover? It’s so much photoshop in there, their body types are so different from their real ones.
That’s so disappointing of Glamour
Exactly! The pictures are completely contradicting the message. They pick 3 girls with different body shapes and then Photoshop them so they all look the same (ie. the only acceptable way to look). There is nothing good about this at all.
The above being said, I can focus on the post.
“I fell in love with activity again.”
That quote from Crystal bothered me. So activity is not something she is normally used to? I get she used to have ED issues, but sitting on your a** all day is not any better. I’m glad she is being active again but I have to wonder how much of her body is “natural” and “healthy” now.
“It’s always a drama. If I know I’m healthy, that’s all that matters.”
I symphatize the most with Ale, because I too am thin, and have got the anorexia accusations, and people telling me I’m unattractive. Too bad for them, I’ve had no problems finding a boyfriend, and have curves thanks to a small waist. But my point is, eventually I stopped caring about what people said and started eating healthy. McDonalds 3x a day may make me gain a pound, but at what cost? You go Ale.
Casey.. you sound like person who is able to see things from a realistic, honest and positive perspective
Thank you Kezia.
I really do believe the stuff I said in my first comment. I’ve been on this site for a while, and I’ve seen that people love to say how they want and support beauty diversity, but it just seems like a thing to say to sound politically correct…because the truth is, most of their other comments don’t show it.
Usually these beauty diversity campaigns magazines do are cheesy, too in-your-face, and make a huge deal out of it. I think for once, it’s being done correctly. This magazine is on the right track and should be supported. The girls all have faults, but they’re also all beautiful in their own way, and I can see all 3 of them as models.
booooooring!!!!!!!!
Brooklyn and Crystal could nearly be the same size, right? Since Brooklyn has wide hips and Crystal carries weight in her belly, not so much in her hips or legs. Still, one of them is considered model-thin and the other one is “plus size”. Weird.
I don´t know, if you look at the candid you´ll see that Crystal´s legs are quite bigger than Brooklyn’s, they don’t look the same size.
Are you mixing them up? Crystal carries most of her weight in the hips and thighs. It’s Brooklyn that has narrow hips.
ooohh… it really pisses me off that they keep photoshopping so much!!! the girls have a little flab, so what?
i never knew photoshop makes that much of a difference..
Brooklyn thinks she looks athletic? that’s the funniest thing I’ve read all week! she looks completely untoned compared to the other two!
I agree with Mia!!
i don’t care what anyone says, because i think brooklyn has a banging body. =)
what the….crystal’s body is almost the same as mine, i have a better waist….is she really a model? I don’t what them to be skinny but toned up, hello? I do not work as a model, you do Crystal!
Hahaha that’s exactly what I thought too!
It looks like Crystal has lost weight, because next to Alessandra who is REALLY skinny she looks pretty normal… she looks good.
@Ankuu: Crystal Renn is a “plus size” model if you look at the mag headline it says …”swimmsuits for every body type” or something.
Really, what’s the point in this? The cover is such a great idea but they obviously photoshopped the hell out of (especially) Crystal. They almost look the same… I am so disappointed!
Does it mader if girls are whatever you want your ownself be. You have only what you want to work with. These girls don’t really care what anyone has to say about them, since they make so much money.
Still there all beautiful, maybe one is bigger than another, or smaller or whatever. There not gonna look the exact same as each other, or anyone else in the world. That’s what makes the world go round, different types of everything.
Is it me, or do the models looks worse on the cover than they do in the candids?
They all looked gorgeous in the unphotoshopped pictures.
i dont like brooklyn big waist, i prefer Alessandra or Crystal body
Crystal looks like Rachel Weisz in the cover… Which is why she looks so pretty!
That’s exactly what I thought!
I don’t agree that this is a correct portrayal. They made crystal look almost a size six!!? come onnn, enough with the photoshop. If they wanted to represent all body types why alter the s*** out of them? I have never seen a size 12 woman look so taut and toned, in the untouched photo we see the real deal. Although, I do applaud them for trying.
agreed!
lol. hahahah.
crystal renn in purple bikini looks straight out of victorias secret catalog. either they are lying that shes size 12, or they just felt like making her look like a 4. great idea but photoshop killed it
Alessandra looks amazing! I don’t care what anyone says – she has a great bod and has tons of energy!
you know she has tons of energy how, exactly?
have you ever watched her “I love my body” video? She sails and has a child to take care of too! She always keeps up with sports and she is exceptionally active!
You’re basing that on a video? lol
W/e! People can believe whatever they want about her – I know she doesn’t starve herself and it pisses me off when people always assume that because someone is slim they are automatically starving themselves! Get a life!
Versus, thank you SO much for posting the unphotoshopped picture! I just got this issue of Glamour today, and the first thing I noticed was that all the models look almost exactly the same size, which we KNOW is not true. And, of course, they photoshopped out ALL the flaws.
One thing that really pisses me off about photoshopping in magazines is that they make the chunky models look like they’re somehow magically free of any bulges, flabbiness, cellulite, or other visible evidence of the actual fat that covers their muscles. So I’m glad to see these candids, b/c they prove that plus-sized models carry their fat in the same unflattering way as the rest of us mortals, and the tight, smooth, toned contours and perfectly streamlined silhouettes you see in a magazine are a lie.
agreed

Crystal is too much photoshoped.
they cover up crystal with the caption on the magazine! probably on purpose i hate that!
I find it interesting that they are all so different when you see the candids and they are all still classified as models, it proves the point that one size does not fit all. I believe they have overdone it with the photoshop for all of them, then again photoshop it being used too much for all sorts of things such as food advertisement to make something look like its fresh hot out of the oven or to make the model advertising wrinkle free skin have wrinkle free skin when in reality she may have those fine lines that the majority of people get.. its all about selling a product really
i guess the difference here is that they are trying to sell that they are all different but by photoshopping them they kill the point. its like selling a car because its red and photoshopping it green
wow, major shopping. crystal is the best post-shop.
i think they have shopped them all massively.
Brooklyn has an inny bit between her thigh and hip, like a second waist. It’s gone there. On a post a few weeks ago you could really see it.
And ditto the first poster! Boobs – pretty sure 99% of female popn has them, aye. You’re not special.

Everyone please write a letter to the Glamour editor and tell them what you feel about the over photo shopping. They go so overboard sometimes!!
Alessandra looks best, imo. Renn has been photoshopped from here to kingdom come!
finally a magazine cover that represents women from all shapes and sizes. it seems people will say anything negative about someone’s body type because it’s not what they like. and i agree with casey, for once it’s not just about being skinny or having curves, it’s about what goes with your body type and every woman should love what she has. i’m no fan of alessandra but i understand where she comes from as well. people though i was too skinny when i really wasn’t but like she said if she’s happy with what she has then people need to accept it and stop bashing her because she’s not womanly. i think more magazines should embrace all body types and show that women from all shapes are beautiful. you don’t have to find skinny, curvy, full figured to be beautiful but accept that women with those body types exist. plus being skinny never stopped me from getting attention from men because it is all about confidence and how you put yourself out there. i think men pay attention to that more than just what her body shape is. the point is all three look good and it’s about damn time.
How annoying. If it’s about different shapes and sizes, then let us see all the shapes and sizes, not just one size. How photoshopped. They’ve made Alessandra bigger/less bony and the other too slimmer.
ignorant beast….and that doesn’t include you’re appearance.
i wouldnt want any of there figures to be honest.

I personally think Alessandra looks the best. She has to be up to catwalk standard not just photograph and photoshop standard.
Kristin Davis is pretty curvy, she’s quite a pear-shaped gal (see http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/05_03/kristinMOS1005_468x707.jpg ) and still thin. She has really small breasts, but still, very curvy on the hips. And thin. So, yes, “curvy” is definitely a shape. And these fat apples they protray as curvy aren’t curvy at all, just… fat. Hourglass and pear are the curvy shapes.
I must honestly say I don’t like any of them. I can think of way more beautiful women, who just live around the corner.
Well to me curvy means the person has asignificant waist/hip ratio (without or without boobs). Boobs on a straighter figure =/= curves IMO.
I agree ( I think as i’m guessing you meant to say ‘with or without boobs)
I guess Hourglasses are the curviest because they have boobs coupled with the small waist and hips but pears are also curvy.
Btw, I think they look better in their un-photoshopped pic than they do in the retouched ones
“I think as i’m guessing you meant to say ‘with or without boobs”
Oops, yes that’s what I meant lol.
And as far as curves are concerned, hourglasses are at the top of the list in the curviness scale, followed by pears and vases and finally rectangles, intervted triangles, lollipops* and apples are at the bottom of the curviness scale.
*these are the ones with big boobs but not much waist definition and narrow hips.
