‘Plus-Size’ Model Robyn Lawley in Vogue Italia
June 18, 2011 in Hot Models by Versus

‘Plus-Size’ Model Robyn Lawley is definitely busy these days! This month, the Australian beauty appears twice in Vogue Italia – once in the desaturated and pretty naked and seductive shoot (and cover) that she shared with other plus beauties and once in a fashiony spread where she rocks lots of outfits.
How do you like the editorial?

See the rest on the next page!

she is gorgeous but I hate the last photo :/ and by the way why they style her up with all those layers and all ? –”
The probably don’t want the plus size thing to show to much?
I don’t think she’s wearing to many layers…? It just happens to be an editorial for winter clothing; and I think the styling is pretty good actually. Why do people (and btw I’m not referring to you jay, it’s just sth I’ve noticed in plus size models posts) always complain when it comes to the styling of pus-size editorials? If the models are half naked, mags are critized for displaying them in an overly sexual manner, and if they are fully clothed they are critized for wanting to cover them up on purpose? Why is people so sensitive an paranoid when it comes to this topic? IMO it’s counter productive to the general effort that is being made to include bigger models in fashion, because many magazines will restrain from using them if they know they’re always going to be put down one way or the other, and in the end they’re going to end up using plus size mdoels only for publicity stunts, when they are explicitly aiming at being provocative.
no worries (: but it would be nice if it style in a right way for every different type of body , now i do understand the whole vibe of the shoot thanks to you
D I’m not complaining about the styling i just wish the clothes fits right for curvy girls thats all but i still hate the last photo , its kinda old looking for me
D theheh
I think that all of those layer styles just make her look like an even bigger plus-size model. All of the pictures will reflect her as a model and I don’t think her look is very appealing at all.
I think plus-size models should represent ‘Curvier, Real Women’, and she is doing exactly the opposite!
mmm…does anyone love her face? it’s so gorgeous =)
she’s beautiful and am glad she’s not half naked in these photos
She has such an adorable face and great hair! However I’ve always wondered how someone who is “plus size” and has a little bit more fat on their body can have such a chiseled face. I mean her cheekbones and jawline are ridiculous and if you dont look at the body her face could very well fit into a regular -size model. I have a similar body( perhaps thinner arms) and my face always looks chubby like i havent lost the baby fat yet. How is that possible that all these plus size models dont gain weight in their faces?(e.g: Crystal Ren had very prominent cheekbones and jaw even at her heaviest)
I was thinking the exact same thing!
Most plus-sized models have like GORGEEOUUS, chiselled faces! Even if they’re plus-sized body wise! My body’s almost like her, but I have chubby cheeks, & almost no jawline!
alsooo, they always have nice legs! Mine aren’t toned, or like neat. Their legs are alwaays well-shaped!
I guess some people just have more defined faces.
The legs are toned because they probably work out and I think that their faces might be chiseled because they are just naturally heavy and are slime for their body type. Plus I’m sure that plus size models take very good care of their body, they don’t seem to have cellulite, that leads me to believe that they are just naturally heavy.
I would have to eat tons of food to be that size and I’m sure that I would have a lot of cellulite and full face, because I’m not built to look like that.
CELLULITE-LESS! That’s what their legs are!
It’s amazing!
I honestly would rather look at plus-sized models rather than the normal ones( even if they are truly amazing sometimes ).
Yes
Their faces are so beautiful, much beautiful than the normal skinny models. I also gain weight in my face, it’s so annoying. I think I will always have chubby cheeks (so I feel you Redvelvet Sara
) Those plus-size Models are very tall, so they carry their weight very well and clothes looks good on them. It would be interesting if they gave us a smaller model.
Hahaha, I’m not even that heavy, but like half my weight is in my face! No joke. People know me for my cheeks. & although I get they’re cute & all, I’d much rather have the cheekbones & the chiselled look.
& yes, they carry weight WELL!
What we tend to forget is that most of these girls are a lot taller than us haha they’re all like 5’10″ minimum…. :p
HAHA!
They’ve got height on their side, too.
I’m 5’2
welll sometimes like for example my mother, shes over 40 shes like 200 lbs at 5’7, but she still has a chiseled face, her cheekbones actually go in and you can feel them, and she has a thin neck, so some people jsut dont gain weight on their face easily, they gain it in their lower body first, or theyre just a little fuller naturally
It’s just the way people gain weight, just like hwo “pear-shapes” carry on their lower body but not their upper body as much. I don;t know if it’s much to go on but I’m 5’9″ and 146lbs-148lbs (depending on the time of month) and I was 158lbs-160lbs at my heaviest and while you could tell on my body that I had gained (I went from my usual size 6 US/10 UK to a 8US/ 12 UK) my face was exactly the same. x
Yeah, like everyone has said, I think it’s just the way she carries her weight. My best friend is tiny, tiny, and any time she gains weight it goes straight to her boobs. It may not seem believable but everyone’s bodies are unique.
I agree with everyone else that is just the way their body stores the fat and it doesn’t go to their faces and that happens with the legs too, I know plenty of girls that are chubby or gain weight and it all goes to their upper side and the legs stay pretty thin and smooth is kind of weird
You girls with the “chubby” faces – remember the grass is always greener on the other side! My mother and I have the “chiseled” type of face, my half-sister has a really round face – she always complains about it even though having chubby cheeks is cute and youthful and she is forever getting ID’d even though she is 30′s
. She says to me, she’d rather my bone structure, I tell her, well I would be happy to have her cutesy face. Grass is always greener…
Wow, she looks great! I like that the clothes are decent – and that there are clothes at all! She looks like an 80′s popstar in the last picture – but the rest are pretty good. I love her face and hair in the third photo – really pretty.
very pretty woman!
I like the pose in the first one. I don’t like the makeup or the outfit (looks from an older woman). I love the photo with the red hat, although that I hate her bleached eyebrows, but even with them she looks very beautiful. The photo with the shadows is my favorite, very dramatic. Don’t love fur, so the last one is no my favourite.
I like this editorial more than the other of Vogue Italy. I prefer thin models, but if the model is a good, like Robyn, you just look at the outfits, makeup, hairstyle, accessories,…
Plus size models = very tall model with healthy weight.
People thinks that they are overweight. Not at all. Just tall
but SOME plus-size models ARE overweight………………just some, not all
I don’t think Robyn is overweight, I’m pretty sure she’s an AU14 and is tall and in pretty good shape, but then Tara Lyn, who I think is epicly beautiful with a great curvy shape, is definitely overweight.
I know weight looks different on each person, but i think she is overweight. I’m 6′ and size 10-12, so pretty much the same, and we look somewhat similar, and i’m overweight. This is simply according to bmi, but i still think she is overweight. She is probably naturally heavier though, cos her face looks thin, and the weight suits her body.
Versus why do you put Plus size in ‘ ‘ as if its sarcastic? She IS plus size.
The ‘ sign is not meant to be sarcastic, just let’s say, debatable. She is a US size 12 and she is 6’0” tall (that’s like the equivalent of 5’5” and size 8 – to me, that is not the definition of plus-size.
where is the over weight cause i can’t see it?!?
I need some advice ladies, I am an extreme pear shape, extra small blouses on top, “A” cup bra, but my bottom half is a US6.. does not match at all. I can’t lose any weight without my chest/arms looking emaciated. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions with excersize or style tips to help with this?
the reason I’m asking here is because my legs look almost as big as hers… not that its a bad thing its just doesnt look good with my small waist/chest
oh i understand your problem!!! im a pear but a slim one, but ya i have the thigh leg problem and my upper half is thinner, i would say you cant change your body type, you cant spot reduce with exercise, i say just tone your legs as much as you can, dont try to lose weight to make your legs super skinny cuz theyll never be, which is fine, i think the best thing you can do is dress the best for your body, try to balance out your upper and lower half to make you look more balanced
I agree with Snoops below. Mostly it’s just women who care. I’m a super duper pear. I have a 13 inch difference between my waist and lower half so I look a little ridiculous. But embrace it, you will be much happier. Plus, extreme curves are rare and awesome and look good in fitted dresses.
Siffa – I’ve never once heard a man insult a woman’s pear shaped body, that is something only women scrutinize. Pear shape is perfectly lovely, don’t be ashamed, embrace what you have.
I’ll never fully understand why they call it ‘plus size’ modelling, when most of the models in this category are average or even below average…
this industry never fails to phase me
Agree, Francesca. There are some models in the ‘plus size’ category that are overweight but then you get the ones who are definitely not overweight and still apparently fall into this category! I think it’s the whole idea that quite a few people seem to have; if you’re not slim or ‘skinny’ the you’re ‘fat.’ I’m not saying that plus size models are fat or that modelling agencies think they are but I think what ‘plus size’ means in the fashion world is ‘bigger than the average model.’ Models have always been slim so I think now that they’re trying to break the mould and add more models of different shapes and sizes, that’s the ‘best’ phrase they can think of; it’s probably just their way of saying these models are bigger than the majority of models that are featured, not that they are necessarily overweight.
Also, I’d like to add that labelling some of the models i.e. the ones that are in the middle of ‘skinny’ and overweight is a bit silly. I mean it’s a well-known fact that Candice has a tiny bone structure and therefore looks slimmer than Adriana Lima, for example, yet they don’t refer to Adriana as ‘a little bit bigger than Candice or Alessandra’- they’re all just VS models! They don’t really need to state to us that Robyn is ‘bigger’ than Candice (just an examples) we can see that for ourselves!
What I want to know is why this small lady is considered a “Plus” sized model. She looks quite thin to me.
Because “plus-size” is just a label for models that are bigger than a size 12 US.
For me she looks great, but I don’t consider her thin.
santa, robyn looks quite thin?!! :-O
Plus size models actually start at a US 8/10. It’s not plus sized in the real world but for the modeling world it is
in what modelling agency? In modeling agencies I know “plus-size” start at US 12. TIA
i think its coz there are smaller models out there and i don’t think ‘plus-size’ is such a bad term, i mean what other names can they use without offending any size?
She is pretty, but I don’t really like this shoot. The clothes are rather matronly. It seems like there’s never a happy medium when they shoot plus-sized models; they’re either mostly naked or covered up in massive layers. I understand that what’s flattering on a “straight sized” model doesn’t necessarily work for a plus-sized model, but it seems like a lot of plus-sized clothing errs on the side of being too conservative, which lends to that “matronly” look.
I know I don’t like the pictures either.. the 1st and 2nd aren’t so bad but even if it is a winter-inspired collection, it doesn’t need to be so unflattering! I see plenty of plus size women looking hip and hot in all seasons.. the last two pictures are totally unsexy
I respect your opinion, but I don’t know why women (of all sizes) HAVE TO BE hot or sexy all seasons, 24 hours a day.
She’s not doing it for me. I like the hat picture but she’s pulling a Renn and keeping her mouth open in every shot.
I just saw an old episode of ANTM where a bitchy girl was saying to a plus size girl if she really thought that she could ever be in the cover of Vogue and that that wan’t ever going to happen… She must be biting her tongue by now. Actually I’m not a fan of plus size models and this girl (Whitney) wasn’t really that pretty but saying to another girl how she had no chance in the industry is just mean. BTW, I like the third picture, very classy.
Horrible editorial. Her expression in the first picture is laughable – how did that Modeling 101 picture make it into a magazine? They took a pretty woman and managed to make her look like crap (although I have to say that her range of expressions also seems severely limited to opening up her mouth).
The fur coat makes me sick. And I would say the same if it was on a skinny women. I am not a fan of plus sized models but I will say they seem to look better with clothes on minus the fur coat of course. But you can definetly tell she is a plus sized model and not a regular or average sized model. She has a nice face though. I would say her face is her best feature.
She doesn’t look plus sized to me, and it’s got nothing to do with her have a slim face.
having*
very 80′s photoshoot
nice pics but nothing special
She looks great. Plus size models should be as often on the covers of fashion magazines like skinny models. Women are naturally different.
WOW……. Robyn Lawley and Candice Huffine steal my breath away, they truly have stunningly beautiful faces!
I don’t find her pretty or attractive at all
I feel like the only way people accept “plus sized” models is if they have the face of a skinny woman, and their weight covered up or sexualized. It’s messed up. There are so many fuller-figured women with faces to match that are SO beautiful the way they are. And this is something I feel very strongly about — it’s good that they are introducing different body types to the modelling world, but why can’t there be more than 2? Why can’t there be short models, and models average-height models, models with different shapes? I’ve seen model-esque women of many types, but very few of them represented in the world of fashion, even though I feel they would do well.
Rant ended. But, come on, man!! Does this make any sense?
The first photo is so funny… omg lol. The rest are nice, nothing special.
*and models of average height. oops.
Can anyone tell me what my body shape is please? http://s1089.photobucket.com/albums/i342/lanaxo33/?action=view¤t=bodyshape009.jpg
I hope this comment doesn’t go into moderation again, because I’ve already asked this question twice lol.
I’d say you’re a column shape possibly?
that picture looks fake loll in a good way like its a celebrity or something,
i think your a vase?? because you have balanced hips and shoulders and a defined waist
A vase sounds more accurate than a column. And I promise you it isn’t fake! I cropped my face out because I had no makeup on and bed head, which you can sort of still see anyways. I can pull a Kim K and prove it, but I think I’ll just take it as compliment. lol
ya i know its not fake, i just meant it in a good way because your body is nice like a fitness magazine person or something loll, so ya i beleive vase or ruler, because you go in at the waist somewhat not like a column, your basically hourglassy but smaller framed
well thanks! you made my day
I answered you in the previous post, too. I can’t be at the computer all the time, especially on weekends, sorry.
I would say column, because vases usually have wider hips and large boobs. You are proportionate, lean, athletic and have the whr of a vase, that is true.
I know! I understand that completely. and I think we are in different time zones as well. Impatience is a terribly quality of mine, so I apologize, but thank you for answering.
I hate all those outfits
I googled Robyn Lawley and this is what I found:
http://madisonplus.com/mp-insider/mp-model-off-duty-robyn-lawley/
THAT is plus-size? She looks like a regular model. Perhaps she’s apple-shaped?
Her face is unbelievably gorgeous, anyway.
I know!! Look at this!!
http://madisonplus.com/mp-insider/more-of-robyn-lawley-at-vman-runway-show/
That is not a “plus size” figure. But I guess it’s more than the average, emaciated runway model, so, there ya have it.
why do they think its necessary to make her look grannychique?
i prefer this to that halfnaked shoot any day though
She’s boring nothing special to look at
Finally a plus size model modelling….CLOTHES!!! They’re usually near naked which is not the point of modelling!
Plus sized? O_o
this girl has a stunning face !!!
The second and the third photo are really great. She has a very pretty face.
