Naomi Campbell “Cleans Her Body” with a 600 Calorie Diet
May 17, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Hot Models, Naomi Campbell by Versus

From Daily Mail:
Naomi famously claimed in 1999 that she ‘never diets’, but more than a decade on she confessed on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show that maintaining her slim frame isn’t easy.
She revealed she regularly turns to the extreme Maple Syrup Diet, which involves consuming under 600 calories a day.
‘I try to do this three times a year,’ she said. ‘The most I’ve ever done it for is 18 days. It’s good just to clean out your body once in a while.’
‘If there is bread on the table, he’s (her boyfriend) like: “Don’t eat bread”,’ she said.
But the daily intake of under 600 calories – a third of the recommended amount for a woman – means it is low on energy.
What do you guys think about Naomi’s measures to stay lean?

Who is “he” (in her bread comment)? Is she referring to her boyfriend?
Also, as unhealthy as this diet is, I’m glad she’s copping up to it and not claiming it’s just genetics
The “clean your body” stuff is debatable to say the least. Some say it gives your body a break, and maybe if your diet is very heavy, your digestive system might appreciate a break every now and then, but it’s not like hers is. What she’s doing, just starvation, nothing glamourous or healthy about it imo.
Though I think that this is okay to do once a year, 3 time seems a little excessive.
I did this diet (for 10 days) and it was not pleasant at all. You can choose the varying degrees of how much of the liquid you actually want to consume, and I believe it can go up to 1200 calories. Mine was very strict, and I lost about 13 pounds in 10 days. Since I am already small it really worried my friends and family. I would not recommend it for someone who is already at a healthy body weight because I think it destroys a lot of muscle.
At least she’s telling the truth, and she doesn’t do it all the time.
If she would honestly eat only 600 calories regulary, she would be so thinner. She should look like Victoria Beckham when she would really eat 600 ccal.
You obviously didn’t read the whole article.
She only does it 3 times a year for about 2 weeks…
Oh, sorry. Thanks for telling.
Sorry, but how do you know what every individual requires?
It is completely dependant on amount of lean mass and lifestyle. Very active people with a lot of muscle require a higher amount of calories than very sedentary people with little muscle.
Uh, Kate, she’s an Amazonian–nearly 6 feet tall. She’s also super muscular. I don’t see how she needs less than 600 to fuel body functions.
Sorry, my response was in response to Kyle (who deleted their original comment). They were saying who people should eat less and that 2000 calories was too much.
Hey, if it works, it works. 3 Times a year isn’t all that much and she has to exercise and eat healthy the rest of the year to keep looking like that anyway. Just glad more people are coming forward and admitting that having a great looking body by todays (sometimes harsh) standards doesn’t just come naturally.
Nothing wrong with cleansing once in a while. When some people go on a master cleanse, they eat NOTHING, only drink, so at least she’s getting 600 calories. Certainly not something you want to do for a long time. Your muscles, hair, all of that stuff will start suffering.
I wonder what it feels like for celebrities to know at the end of each day that they spent so much time thinking about themselves; what they ate, what they look like, how many calories they burnt at the gym. Sounds like a life devoid of all meaning.
i’m so sickk of all these models and celebs talking about their mega restrictive diets. since when did eating become a bad thing? food is not the devil.
wish i gad that kind of discipline
hey, you do what you have to do
I agree with the though that, although its unhealthy, her entire career is and has been based off her appearance. For a regular person to do this kind of thing regularly is obviously not the smartest, BUT for a model, she is pretty much getting paid to stay svelte. So she does what she’s gotta…
she is super attractive at any rate.
This doesn’t “cleanse your body”, it’s completely and utterly stupid. Your fricking SKELETON alone needs 600 cals a day to funtion, and that’s not including movement, keeping yourself warm and the general functioning of your brain! It’s starvation and I hope she doesn’t do it often, it’s a bad example.
600 calories do not clean your body, they just starve it and do not provide essential nutrients.
Doctors recommend 1200 at least for women otherwise the body cannot function properly.
Thank b. Ok Kate, so I was generalising, of course I know not everybody needs the same amount but there are averages which can be a good idea to stick to. I came up with that figure because my best friend is recovering from anorexia and she recently saw a dietician and told me a bit about what she said to her, so please don’t be so quick to judge.
No no, it was a response to another poster (Kyle) who deleted their comment. They basically said 2000 calories was too much for anyone and that everyone should eat less.
Ohhh I see – I’m not surprised kyle deleted their comment then, you were right to question that, it’s a pretty ill-informed thing of them to have said! Sorry I sounded to rude.
Or maybe versus deleted and right so!
Yes, I deleted it. Saying “I don’t need 2000 calories” is one thing and it’s totally acceptable, but saying that NOONE, not even athletes, super active women or very tall women should eat 2000 is not OK.
Exactly, it’s just pure ignorance for someone to proclaim such a thing.
OK guys stop shooting Kate
Sorry Kate, we didn’t see the other comment and we thought that you found 600 to be ok for some people.
I never get the idea of “cleansing your body” hype. It’s basically starvation and starving yourself starts your body’s defense mechanism by lowering metabolism, I remember. I don’t think I would ever do that to my body.
There’s nothing wrong with a cleanse, but 18 days straight is ridiculous. And bread is the bomb … sorry Naomi you’re missing out!
I think it’s fine for her to do that cleanse a couple of times a year. She looks absolutely fantastic and I would kill to look like that at her age, so clearly, whatever she’s doing works for her. Also, there IS evidence that fasting can be good for you. And, all that “muscle-mass loss” hoopla is just that — hoopla. I researched this extensively a while ago, and as always, you’d be surprised at how things become dogma without any scientific proof supporting them (like that whole 8 glass of water a day thing). Yes, you lose muscle mass as you take protein out of your muscles — but that’s their job, to be a reservoir for protein for lean times! And you put all that protein right when you go back to eating normally. Yes, your metabolism goes down when you starve yourself…and it goes back up when you eat normally again. Clearly Naomi is not lacking in muscle tone or in healthy vitality — she has one of the most toned, beautiful, and radiant bodies in the whole industry, and she’s had it for a long long time. She should continue doing whatever it is she does to look that good.
Yeah, most doctors/dieticians/nutritionists would argue against “cleansing.”
There’s nothing you can do that will replace a healthy diet with enough fiber. End of discussion.
Cleansing is healthy if you are responsible. I did the master cleanse for 10 days which is recommended in the book and I lost 15.2 lbs. I felt like had way more energy, and I didn’t crave food because I was hungry. It’s just that you smell food so much more clearly and it makes you want to eat everything, that was hard. I never really felt hungry. I think I might do it again when I live alone.
I think she’s fine if it works for her all these years and seems healthy let her be.
lapo ae embokde iki ono acara opo bok aq gak dikandani yo
Um, has anyone not noticed how completely AGELESS she is?!?! This woman is so gorgeous
I absolutely loath this woman.
I LOOOOOVE her body!!!! And she’s kept it up through all these years! I just LOVE the muscle tone.
why do people think/ say they clear out their body, that’s what you’ve got kidneys for…
she looks good though
There is no such thing as ‘cleansing’ your system. That is just the new, socially acceptable term for ‘starving yourself’.
this is clearly an unhealthy amount of calories to consume even if only for short bursts of time. 600 calories is not even the minimum requirement for someone with a sedentary lifestyle but, she doesn’t say what she is eating so it’s probably more the case that she eats clean food like fruit, raw veggies and water which leads to her calorie intake being so low. if you essentially starve your body it will go into overdrive to store fat once you begin to eat at a normal rate again so this is pretty stupid diet advice or “cleansing” advice as she put it. we also need to remember that she is a model, her body is what makes her money and normal women should realise that we are lucky we don’t have to do such things because our body is not our livelihood. it’s unrealistic of people to put the same pressures on them that celebrities put on themselves.
tbh i do the maple syrup diet once a month for a day and it makes me feel so much better, not sure if i could handle 18 days though!!!! eeekkk
but again at least she is being honet.
i don’t believe in cleansing diets, i think it’s bull, our system get’s read of all bad stuff itself, it has its own mechanisms. and if you want to like clean out your system, like for example you’ve been heavy on sugar for couple of months or some other unhealthy stuff, you just need to cut it out and eat only healthy stuff for a week or too( it depends). and also certain products can even improve your systems cleansing process
Regardless all your ignorant comments and opinions, some people are naturally more slender. Some people could diet all year and still wouldn’t look that dam good. They may start to look sick, she doesn’t. Its natural for her, wether she diets or not. And who runs this site? Skinnyvscurvy equals ridicule. You can be small or skinny with curves. Stop trying to make people feel bad for your own faults. The fda is not a standard for everybody. We are all different, and eating everything all the time does not fit everyone’s character. J If you think there is something wrong with slim people, you prolly just are fat and lazy. Be proud of whoever you are, fat skinny, or average. Yes I’m a lean at 112 pounds 32aa-21-35 and damn proud of it. I got breasts like a man, and the hips of a thoro bred. Stop trying to get us all to feel like were aliens because you think we are beautiful.
