Marisa Miller in FHM: “It’s Always Better to Look Curvy”
July 8, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Hot Models, Marisa Miller by Versus

Marisa Miller is a “the sexy girl next door” in FHM this month…
… where she’s revealing her toned, lean and busty figure in lots of hot lingerie.
Here’s a little thought from Marisa:
“It’s always better to look curvy. Women look sexier.”
That will get you talking!

Wells she certainly looks fantastic with her booty and and boobs. My husband once told be she and I had the exact same body, hilariously wrong, but one of the nicest things he’s ever said to me.
hehe thats sweet
u must be pretty
Wow, she looks amazing!! I don’t believe there is one guy out there who doesn’t think that first pic is hot!!!
they can be darlings when you find the right one hey! Basically he doesnt see your ‘flaws’…he sees you as a supermodel =o). I say ‘flaws’ because its a very subjective term!
she looks good as always and it seems she has improved her facial expressions as well. i like it.
whats better, her saying this or saying its better to look like a stick thin bag of bones?
i lov how these VS models talk about how curvy they are….i mean REALLY
She IS curvy! Do you not see the hot curve from her a$ $ to her tiny waist to her big boobs????!
Actually, as a lollipop she’s not curvy there and she doesn’t have that much booty. She is curvy up top, if you know what I mean
You are right. Her butt is photoshopped here. It looks nothing like that in real life. They even added some curve to her thighs.
that is NOT what I consider curvy. She did have breast implants and she obviously works out her ass like crazy to look like that. she’s not curvy she’s too thin. she has curves but not curvy there is a difference!!
nope, those boobies are real.
She’s curvy from the side view but not so much from the front.
I agree it is better for her to say curvy is better rather than saying emaciation for the nation… BUT, i think it is quite laughable when models refer to themselves as curvy… It’s like curvy is the new trend, curvy has always been hot but the “industry” was in denial. Models are healthier but just because they’re healthy or have boobs doesn’t make them curvy or voluptuous… all i’m saying is, if these models are “curvy,” then a larger part of the world, than previously considered, is obese.
Curves have very little to do with weight.
In fact, I personally become less curvy the more I weigh.
I understand what ur saying, but my ultimate point was… she may be curved but she ain’t curvy. Thanks for the comment, tho!
Marissa IS curvy, she’s just not fat.
@ sharen you don’t have to be fat to be curvy… i’m aware of what curvy is and I just don’t see it in any of these pics. examples of thin curvy… demi lovato, i even think megan fox is curvy… although marissa may have the whr going on, looking at her alone, rather than her measurements, all i see are 2, albeit, fake boobs and a tiny ass. Once again, she may have breasts but she’s not really curvy.
Me too! when I weigh a bit more I become a ruler, skinnier i am i get a defined whr!
Um, neither. That’s the problem, it’s like people can’t figure out how to compliment one body type without putting down another.
Actually, I don’t really like her looks but in these pics she looks really great!
haha! Yes an insensitive comment indeed, sure to annoy people. So I guess all women who are not hourglasses or at least pear, are inferior? Sorry angelina, megan, miranda, cheryl cole, acording to marissa you guys just arent sexy enough. And the funny thing is, she isnt even what I’d call curvy herself, she has boobs but overall her figure is quite straight.
Silly Marissa, I dont think she thought before she opened her mouth!
Yeah I agree. She doesn’t have a very defined waist to hip ratio. So according to herself, she’s not sexy. Lol.
I dont meant to “defend” her, but she did not say hourglass or anything like that.. I think she probably just meant “curvy” as opposed to having no breast or butt at all, that is, looking like a bag of bones.
curves arent really about size though, one can be skinny and curvy (eg candice) or one can be bigger and not really have any curves, I see plenty of girls who are fairly large all over but still have small breasts and flat asses.
She just means that women look better with some meat on them. Used the word curvy because it is more sophisticated and cute.
You guys can really give a bad criticism even on the simplest phrase.
She didn’t mean more meat, because then she would have been defining herself as not sexy, because you cant tell me that she herself is meaty. She meant curvy, the literal term. But i agree that things celebrity says, people on this site always take it out of context.
the way i interpreted it was that marissa was referring to always POSE to make yourself look like you have more curves. which makes you look more appealing.
otherwise she would have said it is better to BE curvier, vs LOOK curvier (posing).
I agree with janeirO !!
But I do think Marissa is curvy, even if she is a size 34 she’s curvier than a lot of bigger women who don´t really have much shape.
I agree that curves are about shape but celebs and the media use the term as a euphenism for ‘bigger’, ‘fuller’ or ‘more meat on the bones’.
Essence pointed out that she’s not that meaty but we have to remember that we live in a world where any woman that isn’t runway size is curvy so I can well imagine Marissa considering the little meat that she has to be curvy , with the definition relating to size.
Yea but now I agree with janeir0. I didnt thnk of it that way she’s right, she meant look curvy, and you can tell by the poses she’s doing for the mag. And I think everyone that commented on this post should read her comment because it makes sense.
I actually think Cheryl Cole and Megan Fox have pretty curvy figures. IMO you’re overreacting, there is nothing wrong with saying that having curves is better than being straight up and down, it’s her opinion, she’s entitled to have an opinion and I bet most people in the world would agree with her. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that only pears and hourglasses have curves, vases have curves, skittles have curves, even rulers can have curves, tiny ones but still curves… and I think she has curves, I just looked at her pics on Zimbio (so no photoshop) and she has a waist and a booty.
whos over-reacting, me? I had a giggle at her quote I thought it was silly, hardly call that an over-reaction.
I have my personal preference for a body type (thin with curves), though i wouldnt go so far as its ALWAYS better to look one way over another, and if I was in the lime-light I definately wouldnt say (and be quoted as saying) x body type is always better than y. Might be a bit of a turn-off to her female fans who dont have x body type.
For the record, I’d class myself as a fairly hourglass-y shaped girl, its not like Im personally offended.
For me saying that she’s insensitive and that women who are not curvy would feel inferior is overreacting. And I didn’t think, not even for a second, that you felt personally hurt I just think that too many people around here are so obsessed with the idea of being “politically correct” that they can’t even accept an opinion from someone even though you agree with it (because I bet you agree with her statement).
I doubt you’d think there was nothing wrong with her saying that if she’d said “It’s always better to look skinny” or “it’s always better to look thin”.
For some reason it’s okay in this society to put down people with smaller, more narrow bodies. Oh wait, I forgot, but big hips and big breasts are what makes a woman, a woman! Ugh.
actually I would still agree if she said that it’s better to look skinny/thin! and she is thin and curvy so from my point of view she’s perfection. I’m not one put down anybody, I’m just saying that being obsessed with being politically correct to the point that people’s opinions are considered offensive, only because they’re not saying that everyone is beautiful, is making me sick.
*not one to put down
i have to say i agree with your comment Snoops
i wish i could thumbs up ur comment… well i guess i’ll just do it off screen… hehehe!
Statements like that are irresponsible. I know she probably intended that as an affirmation, “love your body!” kind of deal, but statements like that only perpetuate the notion that there is an ideal body type that women should aspire to.
irresponsible?? last time I checked celebrities or people in general can say whatever they want. People on this site always take things too literal and immediately starts judging and picking….IMO she can say anything she wants
I’m not arguing that she CAN’T say it. I’m actually aware of the first ammendment, thank you. But yes, it’s a bit irresponsible for anyone to say that there is a standard for what a woman’s body should look like, whether it’s curvy or stick thin, because you never know who is hearing that and who will be affected by it. It’s a rotten thing for ANYONE, celebrity or not, to say.
celebrities can say what they want but don’t get mad when some people don’t agree because some women don’t have curves and take it offensive. i’m not offended by what she said because i’m somewhat curvy myself but i don’t expect every woman to have it. so when people may comments like that then hey don’t get mad because of how they feel.
plain and simple, people are way too sensitive… people nit pick every thing a celebrity says because they have an “impact”…which is stupid. I wish ppl would stop looking to celebrities for what their bodies “should” look like an if they say something that doesnt agree with how you feel, oh well, kick rocks. At the end of the day, she will still look like herself and the readers of the comments will still look like themselves. Stop judging everything these models say.
Completely Agree. Its so annoying. Its like people forget their people too.
Celebrities know their words make a big impact… that’s why all those organizations choose celebrities as spoke-persons.
And because of that is normal for their words to be analyzed and over-analyzed. And because of that it’s their responsibility to take care of what they are saying. Maybe it’s FHM who took her words out of context, who knows. I don’t trust the press are very professional nowadays.
I want her legs!
you are not the only one ;D and i would die to have her torso too!
She ain’t particularly curvy. Yeah she has boobs and butt, but lacks a good WHR from the front.
She is curvy to a degree, but she is still very thin. And, has anyone ever noticed Marisa has never done a high fashion show like her fellow angels. Just saying, because she is one of my favorite.
May be she is shorter…she defo looks shorter than the rest
i imagine it’s pretty difficult to book runway shows with breasts that big. Plus, I don’t think she is very tall…I’ve read that she is only like 5’7 or so, which would make her too short for runway modeling.
I never thought about her having big boobs, and she is 5’8, so I thought maybe she might be be able to book some shows.
sexy thaang! but.. maybe a bit insensitive comment. i hope she ment like “embrace your curvs, even if it is your curvy bum/tits/legs/thighs/, don’t try to demolish your womanly curves” i hope that’s what she ment anyway! because EVERY woman has some curves, i have tits, the pear shaped has her bum or thighs, the brick maybe has curvy ankles, the lollipop has her tits as well, the cello has her hips, the ruler maybe has tiny but perky ass ETC ETC. just embrace what you’ve got!
you can be curvish without a TIIIINY waist!
i don’t think she’s talking about WHR
im rambling on but maybe someone gets what i wrote. haha
Yes i know what you mean…. There are numerous ways to be curvy, WHR just being one of them. Personally WHR is my favorite way to be curvy. It’s also good to remember that curvy is just a shape, rather than a size. =)
exactly!
lol on the curvy ankles! haha!
PS: I really like your new profile pic. Very pretty.
haha
that was the only thing i could come up with.
aww, thanks, that’s kind of you
That seems like a valid way of interpreting her quote, imo.
Btw, I have a friend who drools over well-defined calves and ankles, haha so I think the “curvy ankles” part does make sense.
haha
I’ve always been a promoter of “curvy” being a shape, not a size; there’s Candice Swanepoel, a very thin, curvy girl; there’s Demi Lovato, a slim, curvy girl, middle ground; and then there’s Beyonce, a larger built curvy girl(NOT fat, just a larger frame).
Marissa isn’t curvy – she has a straight shape.
I thought about that too, her just being super straight and having somewhat manly abs. But this is the whole thing, the only thing that makes her curvy are her bum, and boobs. She has no real definition in her thighs, like may be Doutzen or Bar, it’s just skinny legs. Then we have someone like Candice S. (and I agree with the comment above) who has the tiny waist and wide hips, Candice also has not big, but larger arms. I like it on her thought. Then, Marisa, has just tiny arms.
I agree with you, but I wouldn’t say she’s straight.
Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio are straight. Marisa has always been one of the few VS angels with a waist…although her’s is not nearly as pronounced as Candice’s.
Look at the third picture, or some of her candids. I’d say she has a decent WHR, if not the perfect 0.7. But she is definetly under 0.75.
I have seen her in pictures, where she really does have some hips, I mean she does have some hips, but there so boney.
“Look at the third picture, or some of her candids. I’d say she has a decent WHR, if not the perfect 0.7. But she is definetly under 0.75.”
Her waist/hip rtio could well be 0.7 by measurements alone but the long torso makes her body appear much straighter.
If an hourglass shape, i.e. 34-24-34 gets too stretched out in the middle it no longer looks curvy.
She isn’t straight.
Not all hourglass and pear shaped women have the same shaped waist and hips. Many black women have what is referred to as spoon or shelf like hips, like Halle Berry. Some others may not have the defined waist line but they have a small waist with big butts and boobs that make them curvy.
She looks so hot in the first picture! Unfortunately, while that’s her body, that’s not her skin.
Anyway, I think I am at least as curvy as Marisa, but even I found it off-putting. I know I get annoyed when people call thin women “12 year old boys” or “bag of bones,” so I feel that apple/rectangle/ruler shapes could be just as annoyed by Marisa’s comment. I don’t think she meant it in a rude way as the phrases I listed above, but it’s still offensive.
As someone above stated, there are plenty of celebrities that are not necessarily “curvy” yet are praised for their physical beauty. While the majority of people like small waists on women, I wouldn’t say that’s the hallmark of beauty. Plenty of small waisted girls are seen as unattractive (Sarah Jessica Parker), and plenty of ruler shaped girls are sex bombs (Adriana Lima).
So, it may be a contributing factor, but it is not the deciding one. You can have practically no waist at all but still be considered attractive if your other features are nice.
i feel like this comment was taken out of context. i think she was referring to posing, and that it is good to arch your back to make your butt look bigger/curvier, or to twist your waist so it looks thinner. she’s doing that in almost all of her pictures here. most of the angels try to manipulate their bodies so they look “curvier”.
she is saying they try to make themselves LOOK curvier, which is sexy.
if she meant to say it is best to be curvier, why wouldn’t she just say it is best to BE curvier?
I think Janeir0 is right. Also she didn´t really say anything about WHR, just curves… Adriana doesn´t have much of a waist, but she does have curves…Sarah just doesn´t have a very attractive face..
In a second picture is that her on the newspaper?
I think she looks amazing!
ummm she isnt curvy…maybe photoshopped to look curvier? ive seen reg candids and she is not curvy by any means
versus , what’s her body type?
Do you know that VS answered the same question about Marisa at least 3 times in other posts?
You seem to ask the same question all the time, in every topic. You are just making VS to do extra work for you… I wouldn’t do it!
I agree! I noticed that you ALWAYS ask “what is her body shape?” in all your comments, I’ve seen it at least 8 times. Are you aware that it takes a lot of work and analysis to answer such a question? Because it’s certainly not something you can tell from the top of your head! I’m telling you this because I am an image consultant, and you are just making her work a lot for your needs, for free.
thanks jellyorjam , maybe it’s hard and i agree but i don’t know things about body shapes and i have a question for u , why are u always checking my comments ? why are you so interested? please don’t check them anymore , i’m not the only member on this blog ! for ur information, you hurt my feelings when you said : ”YOU ARE JUST MAKING HER WORK A LOT FOR YOUR NEEDS , FOR FREEEEEEE!”.
thanks ! good job!
Please check the old posts – I answered before at least twice. The thing is I love to answer about body types, but Sam and jellyorjam were right: it takes a LOT of time every time because I try to be accurate and I look at tons of pictures, read descriptions and analyze the girls before answering. And in most cases, these girls don’t have obvious shapes, so I can’t really say on the spot, without (re)investigating, what they really are.
These days, answering in the comments section takes much more time than posting my articles
Thank you for you understanding.
thanks for all of u , for all these replies , and these literature lessons , i appreciate it a lot and since i’m bothering you , i think i’ll delete my account
thanks !!!
sorry, versus , i admit , i’m always asking you this question , you have an amazing blog and i don’t think i’ll delete my account just because of them and i promise , i won’t ask u this again! i don’t want you to work for my needs and for FREE!
once again , i apologize ! <3
Oh, Jah… *face palm*
that’s very disrespectful of you!
In this girl’s defense, this is Versus’ blog, and a lot of look to her (them) for their opinions because they are obviously pretty invested into body shape since they have a whole website devoted to it.
btw – I’m so often outside hosing my garden in lace underwear, heels, and a tiny top which I accidently get soaking wet all over my breast area. Almost as often as I am mowing the grass in killer heels, a bra, and hot pants so small it looks like my booty is eating them. How about you girls? Haha – mens mags are funny, they do make me laugh sometimes.
Haha i kno i thot that 2
I love your comment
It made me laugh.
what you said is soo true!
hehe, well its good to have some laughs, sometimes things just get a little heated on this site its nice to lighten things up
now when i look at her she’s not as curvy like i thought she was. but for her to say that, i mean really? i guess women who don’t have curves don’t feel better about themselves, is that it? yes it is her opinion but why say something like that knowing damn well many girls won’t be blessed with a voluptuous body. the people who like this comment because they prefer women with curves and think that’s a healthy body. better than looking like a little girl. *sarcasm* she may not said it in a mean way but some will take it as offensive because they don’t have that body type.
hot
I think all she’s saying here is what people want to hear. Ofcourse though being a mens mag we know most men do prefer a curvy women in the sense of big boobs , arse hips and thighs. And as she’s in male targetted mag she is likely to make a comment like this .
Exactly
Correction: Most men.
I have a cousin that’s into “apple shaped women” with big, soft bellies that he can rest his head on.
I also know a guy who is into very thin, straight shaped women.
Oops! Sorry! I thought that you just said ‘we know that men” and not “we know that most men”
Sticking your butt out while having a BMI of 17 doesn’t make you curvy Marisa.
Either she’s very stupid or thinks most of us are stupid. I’m betting it’s a combination of both.
That is what she is saying. she is purposely sticking her butt out because it makes her look curvier. marissa is admitting to it.
“It’s always better to look curvy. Women look sexier.”
Why are so many people misinterpreting this?
But that DOESN’T make her look curvier, she just looks like a thin woman sticking her butt out. That’s the point. If she really wanted to look curvy she would gain weight. Obviously she doesn’t.
yes it does make her look curvier. her standing straight vs arching her back equals a totally different profile.
she’s talking about posing, and how doing arches/twists can make you appear more curvier, which is obviously more desirable b/c this is in a mens magazine.
how do you actually know she is talking about poses? Just because she said its better to look curvier (rather than “be” curvier) doesnt really mean anything, the words are interchangable, the meaning can still be exactly the same. Without reading the whole article you cant say that she is definately talking about posing rather than figures.
It would make more sense that she means poses because face it, she’s not that curvy
I highly doubt she has a BMI of 17, and sticking out her butt or not, she still has a butt, and is decently “curvy” for her frame.
http://www.wildsound-filmmaking-feedback-events.com/images/marisa_miller_butt.jpg
well we all know how inaccurate wikipedia is, but it’s the best source I could find for her weight…it claims she is 5’8″ and 110 lbs, which is a BMI of 16.7, and that her measurements are 34D-23-35.
She is listed as 5’8″ but she’s shorter and her full bust is 34. She said she has D cups, which would make her a 30 D bra size.
While she is not the curviest person in the world, she is curvy, curvier than a lot of bigger women. I think maybe it just bothers people that she is actually skinny AND curvy.
Also maybe she would like to be curvier than she is. I mean people assume she’s talking about herself, but I think she could be straight up and down and still say that… she could look like Alesandra and want to look like Christina Hendricks… I don´t think I´m explaining this correctly…
I don’t think she meant anything negative by her comment. And for all we know, she might wish she were curvier. I think she looks great.
Um, I’m 16 and quite often you guys make me feel pretty bad about being a bigger girl. I weigh 130 pounds. And I’m kind of short. But I don’t get this whole “slim girl with curves” thing. Why don’t you just say skinny? It’s like girls with more generous curves and bigger frames have no place in society. First plus sizes were being called curvy and now Megan Fox and Marisa Miller are being called curvy? I suppose my lack of a wasp-waist makes me just plain fat. We claim to be supportive of all body types, but it seems that all we can appreciate are long legs and tiny waists. Abominable.
Hey, im 16 too! I guess people are trying their best to be modest, but they do it so much to the point where it doesn’t make sense. Although, I’m rather skinny, and the stuff they say… well they make me feel inferior too. I dont know how tall you are but your age and weight sound at just the right amount for you and honsetly I would love to be 130. I want to know what the girls on this site look like becasue they always have so much mouth. Lol
Well, curvy by its very definition means a defined waist to hip ratio; a skinny girl CAN be curvy. And please don’t let any of the comments here make you feel bad. There’s no standard for beauty.
I support what you’re saying, but I also feel for Kels when there are so many people who make “fat” comments on average women like Kimberley Walsh or average looking models and so many other who call emaciated bodies “perfection”. It’s just not right. I don’t know if this site started attracting different kind of people, but it used to be very tolerant people in the past. In fact, I became more tolerant of other women’s bodies because of this site, especially the big girls (and more in peace with mine).
To be honest I don’t even think that the comments on this website are intolerant (for the most part). Yeah there’s the occasional one here and there that say someone should gain weight when they look totally fine, but that person usually gets owned by the other posters lol. And if I could just add a personal note, I used to have an eating disorder and I can honestly say that coming on this website and seeing positive comments about curvy bodies played a part in my recovery.
I’ve never seen anyone on this site has ever called an emancipated body perfection. They’ll usually say their unhealthy looks like a boy or bag of bones.I usually think they’ll praise them for having real bodies.
There is no such thing as “emancipated” body lol… Yes, there are a number of people that would say that; check all the recent posts about Ale, the post about Erin I-don’t-know-who; and all the posts about average and plus size models and count the “fat” comments… I look like one of them models; if I wouldn’t be so anchored in reality they would actually hurt me (and I’m average size, not plus size).
Gigi is right that by definition curvy is simply a WHR ratio of less than 0.8 max. Thus, it is possible to be thin and curvy as it is also possible to be big and curvy, as it is determined by shape.
However, the word these days has so many definitions that it has become meaningless in a way. Some determine it by shape, others size, and even then there are differences that branch off from the former.
A lack of a waist does not make you fat in the slightest. Being too heavy makes you fat and at 130lbs you don’t sound big to me at all.
“But I don’t get this whole “slim girl with curves” thing. Why don’t you just say skinny?”
Curves for a lot of of people is not a synonym for big/thick/chubby/fat. Curves is when your WHR is under 0.75, and you have some padding in the front and in the back.
You can be skinny and have curves. Of course, your curves won’t be that dramatic or pronounced as someone like Kelly Brook or Kim Kardashian. But it is possible. The person that comes to mind when I think skinny AND curvy is Candice Swanepoel. Look her up.
“It’s like girls with more generous curves and bigger frames have no place in society.”
Of course they do. You sound like you’re at an normal weight. There are plenty of normal weight girls all over the media. And definetly in society. I would say the only place they are excluded is high fashion. But really, high fashion has little impact on most people’s tastes, unless you allow them to (ie, you follow models, you follow designers, you want to be a model…etc). Most people can’t even name 5 models, and most people don’t think high fashion models are attractive. I would say it’s the opposite…if you were born super tall and super thin, then you have no place in society…the only place you have is high fashion, and if you have bad skin or something that stops you from modeling, well, sucks for you!
“I suppose my lack of a wasp-waist makes me just plain fat. ”
It’s not having to do with the waist itself being tiny. It’s waist to hip ratio. You can have a 25″ waist but if you have 40″ hips, you are curvy. Just like you can have a teeny 22″ waist, but if your hips are 28″, you’re not that curvy.
I understand where you’re coming from. But you have to understand people have their preferences. This is hard and it takes years, but you have to accept that people may like things that you lack. But that does not mean you are unattractive to all people, nor does it mean that all of your physical traits are unattractive. Like I said on another thread, you can have no waist, and even though most people like waists, you can still be attractive bc of your other qualities.
“Just like you can have a teeny 22″ waist, but if your hips are 28″, you’re not that curvy.”
If a person has a 22″ waist and 28″ hips then you they’re probably 8 years old lol.
But I gut what you meant, atlhough you got to take into account how much of the hip measurement is in the butt verus the width of the pelvis plus length of the waist plays a big role too.
Supermodels can be 34-24-34 and look almost straight figure if they have a very long torso where a short waisted girl can look curvacious with the same stats.
Arghhh….I’ve got to start proof-reading my commments, I sound bloody illiterate!
i agree. curvy women in society are accepted, lately they have been but not in fashion and maybe never will. i think people assume because a woman who isn’t thin won’t be accepted when in reality they are. it’s the women who are thin who feel unaccepted and think high fashion is the only way to feel beautiful and next thing you know they get the bad rap for making girls for having body issues. honestly i don’t think models, especially supermodels, can make a woman feel bad about the way she looks. i know a lot of people say that but i don’t think it’s true. i’ve looked at magazines of all kinds of body types and i didn’t have issues with my body. what made me have issues was people making comments about it. to me that’s hurt more than some beauty standard. but that’s how i feel about it.
Well, it also depends a lot where you live in the world. I have said this before, but in my home country I feel like a whale, and there is pressure by the media and the general public to be as slim as possible (it doesn’t matter how or if you’re healthy), otherwise you’re not considered desirable. I stop shopping for trousers/jeans in my country a very long time ago, because they all have the same cut (very narrow leg width, long length and big waist… at all sizes). While within UK, I feel normal, in Cosmo this month there is a model with a bit of (normal) tummy, there is a model on tv with normal fat deposits around her body and so on. Not to mention it is very easy to find my size in stores and sales-ladies don’t look at me funny when I ask for a bigger size. Again…. if you live in LA…. you get my point!
Besides, it is proven that what you see on a cover of a magazine can influence how you view yourself.
Besides, I have only seen in the past 5 yrs or so the attention being shifted from being as thin as possible to being as healthy as possible and being your natural size… everywhere! A bit late as far as I’m concerned (I’m 29) but better late than never. Ironically, the one that’s going against this trend now, is VS he he….
But that’s just my point of view
In practise, I’d have to disagree with your statement that high fashion has little impact on people’s tastes unless followed closely.
In theory that is true but the reality is a chain reaction. The fashion world places high emphasis on being tall and slim with perfect skin. Hollywood sees this trend and starts to imitate it. Their fans see this trend and also imitate.
The above is just one example of how high fashion values filter down into everyday standards; celebrities are not necessarily the go between. Afterall you do not have to follow fashion closely to know that they are tall and slim; this is very basic and common knowledge. Ordinary people copy these standards because they feel it will put them a cut above the rest and others feel pressurised to follow suit.
You only need to take a look around at what have become typical attitudes towards food and body image that being slim has become an ideal for many, just as it has always been for designers and models.
She looks hot! Thin, toned, and she does have curves! You can have curves with a low BMI. Curves do not equal ‘meat.’ I know many large woman who have one large ‘curve’, which is… round.
Marisa doesn’t have wide hips to make her waist look super defined, but her thighs add some width to the lower body and makes her look super fantastic when fully clothed. I guess that makes her a skittle? A thin one, but that does seem to fit her best. Also, the pictures are silly but she’s smokin’ hot. Major crush on her. =P
she meant it’s better to have big tits and stick your bum out so it looks like you have a booty. As evidenced by her photoshoot. She’s hot, her only reason of saying that is to make guys think she is even more hot. To make money.
I think she looks curvy. She has an ass and thighs and boobs, all curves! It’s always seemed to me that she has to work harder to keep her body slim like ohter VS models. Coz she’s always carried her weight mostly in her hips and thighs.
I think she has one of the best bodies. She looks great!
And of course she’s going to be arching her back and sticking her bum out…. she’s medelling! She’s not just going to stand there and be boring.
I don’t usually like her but DAMMNN!! she looks good specially on the cover! Those abs, the butt, the legs, I would’t mind to look like that
I get annoyed when people say that boobs arent curves. waist to hip ratio shouldnt be the only thing that makes you curvy. as someone who is stuck with ginormous boobs and small frame but no big WHR i feel curvy as hell, everything looks like a wave on me cause of my chest. i dont think this definition is fair. in fact a flat girl with big hips does not look curvier to me than marissa. anyway, i think boobs should definitel count as curves. they are afterall, huge curves that cant be lost like regular fat rolls. at least not mine
Well, scientifically speaking, ‘curvy’ is defined by a women’s WHR ratio being under 0.8 max.
The term has been misconstrued these days but really all it is WHR, hence why pears and hourglasses are the curvy ones.
However, if you feel curvy then feel curvy. It’s your body after all and big boobs are very feminine as well.
I agree with Alex, it might not have to do with the scientific definition, but boobs are definitely curvy looking… You take Kim Kardashian’s boobs away, and she is still going to look curvy, but not as much as now. I think all three (boobs, waist and butt) make you curvier.
i totally agree with you!
It’s BHR also (bust-hip-ratio). Someone doesn’t have to have under .75 WHR AND BHR, I believe you can just have one of those under .75 and you look curvy. If you have a BHR AND WHR under .75 (my preference under .7) then you’re thee epitome of an hourglass typically. And, we all know that hourglasses are not the only curvy girls around!!
I friken lovers her! I was just luring in bed with my iPod and checked this websites<3 and it just made me feel so much happierrr<3333!! her shots aren't intimidating at all and she so healthy.
Ok, I hate Maxim shoots, they are ALWAYS photoshopped and airbrushed so much it makes me nauseous. I feel like the 1st and 2nd pictures don’t even look like her face.
And, as for the comment, I just don’t give a crap. I’m sick of everyone freaking out about such petty things. It was meant to be harmless and this overanalyzing is driving me bonkers.
You’re on a site called, “Skinny vs Curvy”! What do you mean you don’t like petty things (I’m not saying this site is petty!!)? Since you’re saying her ‘curvy’ comment is petty and you don’t care??
I. Want. Her. BODY
i don’t see why people are making such a big deal because some don’t agree with marisa said about being curvy. you may not take it the wrong way but some will so oh well. we’re all different. why get mad at that?
im sure they photoshopped her butt bigger in the firt picture
curvy?? Does she ever understand wt that means ?? she is not the curvy one
I think she is curvy, she may be thin, but she is shapely
these boobs are real??
99% yes. Of course you never know, but I don’t see any reason to doubt them more than anybody else’s.
don’t know why but there’s something abour Marisa Miller I can´t stand, obviously she has a gorgeous body but there’s something about her that gets on my nerves. Same with Candice Swansomething..
I used to be the biggest Candice fan but now…she is getting on my nerves too. I cannot explain even why.
she IS curvy. Curvy doesn’t mean fat, its all about assets and having that little extra something in all the right places. she does. she may be fit but she’s got a booty and boobs. but i mean we are all entitled to our own opinions but im just saying. She wasnt on the cover of SI for nothing
I am not a big fan of Marissa. I don’t know. she has a gorgeous body but her face is pulling me off. But I admit she is curvy, she does have nice butt and great boobs plus maybe not the tiniest but still a very small waist.
Wow, people are discussing her comment about curviness like crazy. I think her comment is pretty irrelevant, she isn’t a model because she has especially wise things to say but because of her looks.
She might’ve just said it because she thought it sounds good to most people and “curvy” is a popular term these days.
But she’s just so… LONG :-S
I don’t really like it so much, it reminds me of an insect, like a preying mantis. Especially in that photo with the newspaper… the length of her from hip bone to bra … it’s immense!
Having said that, she is no doubt a gorgeous looking girl, I’m not supposing otherwise. I just am not a big fan of the long, long, long body. I always think petite girls look nice.
her body is seriously a dream but her face is just not enough to give her the “sexiest woman on earth” title.
i know she is very thin and fit and has curves, but she looks really straight to me in the last picture, though i’m sure it’s just the angle.
What is it with these ditzy Vs models thinking that they are ‘curvy’? Well here’s a little fact: YOU’RE NOT CURVY. Marissa Miller, Miranda Kerr and Allesandra Ambrosio are really getting on my nerves. They are way too thin with no hourglass shape, yet they think of themselves being ‘curvy’! What the heck is wrong these people?
Marisa has a large butt and boobs, Miranda at least has a butt, everything else on her is straight and not small. Alessandra has NOTHING! Did you see that one interview where she said she was a “curvier girl” haha, yeah right!
Marisa has a large butt and Miranda has a butt??? Are you serious???!!!!
From what I’ve seen on this site nobody has a *large* butt among the VS girls! Marisa has a tiny round booty and Miranda is flatter than a pancake !!!! She must know that because she’s always sticking her butt out in photo shoots to create the illusion of some curvyness
However I agree that Alessandra has just nothing and it’s irritating to read that she considers herself *curvy*…..
Well, when I watched the VS Fashion show, Miranda’s butt looked huge. But I saw both her and Marisa in jeans and they do have not butt. So, I take back what I said. Pretty much all models are skinny and not curvy, which makes me wish Crystal Renn didn’t keep losing weight.
There are so many defitions of curvy, and ever women in this world and on this site is curvy, in there own special way. I have been thinking about what Marisa has said and come on, she is in a men’s magazine and all they want to do is talk about her body. Every women is curvy, we can all look at it in a different way and have different opinions.
You know what’s even better than “looking curvy”? Looking (and being!) NON- SUN DAMAGED!!!
she has a great body………but the fact that she thinks she is curvy is funny.
I love her, she has a beautiful body and pretty face but curvy? yeh that she ain’t. Also, i think her stomach looks ugly, from the front view, looks so manly!
Bah! If that’s curvy I’ve got a pretty sexy looking broom in the cupboard!
LOL!
i think she’s gorgeous. And curvier than most models. Perhaps she ment that compared to other models she’s curvier. And that it’s better to be that way, and not just bones.
But anyways, what is curvy to you? it’s not being fat btw.
Marisa is tiny but she has boobs and a booty. People who think she isn’t curvy are the ppl with HUGE butts and HUGE boobs and also not her AWESOME abs. I know her and I know her measurements. She’s curvy… compared to my measurements as a naturally thin person and a model, but I wasn’t blessed with THAT awesome of a body. I wasn’t blessed with the boobs and booty with a flat stomach. I WISH I had her body!
Meh, does nothing for me. I can see her obvious charms, but she’s too common looking.
sorry, where are the curves? fake boobs and photoshop ! nice when a size 2 has “curves”
hope her brain is really curvy
All I really want to know is, when you women on this site read something about a model saying she is curvy, what does that word “curvy” really mean to you.
When you first hear the word, what immediately comes to mind?
I would really like to hear others thoughts, not just the thoughts about her quote.
Good question.
To me, and I believe most women on this site, curvy defines a woman with distinct WHR ratio couple with round hips and butt and thighs and boobs (or not in the case of those that see pears as curvy, as I do).
However, I think that the media and the celebrity world has adopted the term as a euphinism for a woman with fuller in size and I believe that is what Marissa Miller is referring to in this context.
Of course she’s the sexiest woman alive! that’s obvious NO ONE can compare any other celebrity body to Marissa’s!!!She’s a perfect combination of slim, but curvy, I laugh at all the jealous haters: her skin looks old, her boobs are fake…etc SHE’S PERFECT
If its your prefrence that she is the sexiest woman alive okay. She is very beautiful. But there is DEFINITELY people that can compare to her. To say no one can compare is very close-minded. She’s not perfect to me but to each her own.
I agree. I don’t think anyone could say that she is unattractive … but, for me, deffo not the sexiest woman alive or anything. Far too lanky for my taste. Nothing is “of course” when it comes to beauty. Everyone prefers something different (although, most of what is considered ‘beautiful’ does fit within cultural, social limits etc).
Anyway, I think very pretty girl, but certainly not my favourite.
pretty and nice body but for some reason her face always looks old to me.
she does have nice sized boobs and butt for her body but i wouldn’t actually define her as curvy… i think curvy women specifically have more meat on their bodies than her. but she looks fantastic!!!!!
if she was standing normally she wouldnt be that curvy
in the modelling world she would definitely be considered curvy or in LA….
anyway aside from sun damage she’s hot
not my favourite but hot
I don’t think she’s all that curvy. Especially in the 2nd and last photos. They actually may may minimized her curves in those two photos, because in the second one, I don’t see a defined waist (and that one is straight on, so it SHOULD be noticeable) at all and she doesn’t seem to have hips either. She looks like a ruler in those two photos. In the last one, if that version of her stood up, she would not have the same butt as in the first one.
In some pictures she looks curvy, and then not in others. I think it’s just angles and photoshop that make the difference for this girl.
Granted, I do think she has some curves, I just don’t think she’s curvy.
and 125lbs, but not that thin).
I can’t say she’s not pretty though- because she is. I just don’t find her “curvy”. Her waist isn’t really all that tiny unless it’s photoshopped. She’s not totally straight, but she’s not curvy either. She’s somewhere in between.
She is obviously not a bag of bones, but her curves are pretty much all her boobs and some photoshopped butt. She sure doesn’t look curvy at all from the side in that last pic – very straight, in fact.
This is why they should never interview models … look what happened to Alessandra. They are really insensitive, not that bright, or just unaware of the repercussions of their comments.
her body is mindblowingly hot!
i cant imagine caring what this woman says, really. she would have to impress me with her intelligence first, as opposed to her physical assets.
She’s a babe, but what ‘Earths Sexiest Woman’ as the title is firstly inaccurate and secondly of the ilk of comments that make girls insecure and sometimes develop eating disorders. I know from this one comment it may sound far-fetched, but when girls and women are exposed to this kind of comment every day it’s damaging and irresponsible.
That’s not too crazy. I know it’s a mens magazine and ~that’s what men do~, but women’s mags do it, too. I think the idea of putting out whole issues devoted to things like best or worst bodies is disgusting. Yes, damaging, too. Even if it’s some rag like the Enquirer, it’s still sick.
I didn’t grow up with that kind of thing and I still developed an eating disorder, but I’ll tell ya, it’s not very helpful right now.
I love how she calls herself curvy just because she has…what… size 0 hips and big boobs. That doesn’t make you curvy! Or healthy!
omg i can’t believe she said that..im soo annoyed right now, I mean i am naturally super skinny and what I’m not not sexy? plus her saying that is really funny since she’s not curvy..just a stick with inflated balloons glued to her chest..and no im not jelaous but what she said shows just how much she has learnt in life
She looks lanky and skanky.
imo,her body is not that curvy anyway! what is she talkin’ about!? all you see on her is boobs(i’m wondering if they’re real),the rest of her body is typical skinny model like! and i agree with gergia ,above!
Come on guys, fat is now becoming “curvy ” so I agree with Marisa. She is curvy, she just works out! She has an amazing body and that is an example of toned but curvy.
You can be curvy and weigh 120 pounds and be 5’7 she just has it in the right places. Curvy to me dosnt just mean you have to be over 140 pounds at any weight you can be curvy if you dont look like a stick which she obvi doesnt people who are shaped like blue berrys arnt curvy either. She probly works so hard to stay this way harder than most people work having a job were they are on their ass all day. Thats my opinion.
