A few days ago, we all admired (more or less) the new Miss Universe – Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete. The new beauty queen is making a lot of appearances these days, so here she is at The Late Show With David Letterman on August 25.

She may not be your ideal beauty, but she’s obviously not average. Christina Hendricks isn’t what I consider an ideal beauty, but I can still acknowledge that she is not average and is attractive to the majority of the human population.
There ARE women that are more beautiful than her. For example, Salma Hayek is more beautiful than she is.

Come on, there are very few 10′s in the world and she’s better looking than the average female. She wouldn’t have been my pick either but I can at least acknowledge that beauty contestants are better looking the than the average female.
Well, I wouldn’t look twice if I saw her on the street where I live. Plus, not many of the contestants were more than average to me, especially her. I thought there were like, 3-4 really pretty ones.
Beauty contestants aren’t average. Go to your local Walmart and you’ll see average.

Someone needs to relearn basic measurements; haha. Google. 7 inch heels- I kid you not they’ll all be plastic heels. Those are at most 4 or 5 inches. Standard size for heels. I hate when people say things they think are witty, even when they have wrong ‘facts.’ Break out some stats on her height and guestimate, girl. Don’t just try to sound funny or say it to be cruel. You’re not funny. You sound misinformed and like you can’t count.

Me too. Dolled up like she is there’s no way to tell if she’s a “natural beauty”. Her eyes may look completely different without the fake lashes (I know mine do!). But all in all she looks good I think.

yeah..it’s just a bit of ….”too much make-up”..but she looks pretty with it…she is pretty and has a cute smile…though usually knockout beauties don’t participate to such contests…cant explain myself the phenomenon…but that’s the truth…those women that can turn every head don’t have a title like “miss universe” to display in their living rooms..

So true, these competition winners are the most beautiful of the girls who wanted to be judged, not the most beautiful in general. A true beauty, one who is also content and humble about her looks would feel no need to put herself in the running to win the award. I always felt that these girls had low self esteem and needed an award to show people that they are attractive.
It’s become an epidemic here in Ireland, with half of my class in University entering beauty pageants in the hope of being crowned Miss Universe Ireland or Miss (insert name of nightclub). The truly beautiful girls never entered….interesting.
But anyway, Miss Mexico is very pretty and I love her outfit.

I think it’s a big assumption that these girls are only getting into pageants to increase their self-esteem. There are many girls that are pushed into it at a very early age, so it’s just become part of their identity. I would imagine that this is especially true for most of the contestants in the miss universe competition, because in order to make it to this level of pagaentry at such a young age (late teens, early twenties), most of these girls must have started competing very early in life in order to have any experience for this event.
In Ireland, girls have only started entering beauty pageants in their droves (and I mean DROVES) since Ireland won Miss World in 2003. Ireland is a wealthy educated country, and the girls who are entering are all in University, and do not need to enter for financial reasons i.e. to get an education etc. No pageants exist for women under the age of 18 either. I can’t explain the issue apart from it looking like a desperate need for attention to boost self esteem.
And as Ireland is a very small country, and I am from Dublin I am NOT making sweeping accusations, it’s true. An epidemic according to some papers here.
@ Miss Polygot, the girls who want to go in the running for Miss Universe start off in heats at Nightclubs, The current Miss Universe Ireland won Miss Lillies Bordello, a Dublin nightclub.
agreed with both Mizzy and leah, though you are making different points, I think both your points are applicable because its very different in other countries than it is in the US where there is a kind of pageant culture or sub-culture (I dont know if these are the right words but I think you should understand what I mean

I don’t find her attractive, at all. All that make-up makes her look SO much older than she is – it doesn’t add to her supposed beauty in the least. Maybe I could judge her differently if I could look behind all those layers of foundation.

Since when have beauty pageants been about natural beauty? I don’t understand why people are even mentioning whether or not she’s naturally beautiful (completely subjective, I find that she is). Last time I checked, makeup is a beauty product…so is surgery (which I dont think she’s had)…so fake or not, it suits a beauty pageant. Shes prettier with makeup, but I still find her beautiful without it. I love makeup, so I will be the last to fault her for it. It looks great. So if makeup or surgery doesn’t fit into your idea of beauty, it does millions of others. So whether you cake it on or go without, one is not better or more beautiful than the other. They’re simply options.

Most of you assume she’s not naturally beautiful. Well, I disagree. Yes, make-up can fix some small flaws but cannot change her actual features. However, I believe she’d look as stunning as she looks now without that much make up. She’s got flawless skin and symetric face-that makes her really beautiful.

She’s pretty, but not gorgeous or anything special. Any decent looking or average girl (notice I didn’t say ugly) would look special and pretty dolled up like that. I saw pictures of this girl with less makeup, and she looked pretty average to me, and that’s quite sad considering that she was wearing makeup even in those pictures. I can’t imagine what she looks like completely makeup free.

Some of you seem like you have major beef against this girl or something. Like it completely offends you that Miss Universe isn’t “the most beautiful girl in the world”. It’s a freaking beauty pageant, they don’t sit down and try to make sure that they pick someone who everyone finds to be drop dead gorgeous just so no one’s feelings get hurt. Not everyone is going to agree with what YOU personally find to be beautiful.

She definitely catches my attention in these photos and she is pretty, but I do think a portion of that is to do with her being dolled up with make-up and a nice outfit. (Not saying that she would be ugly without that, before someone accuses me.) You would be surprised how big of a difference it can make.

Hello girls! I have one little request .. I know that weight and measurements are not the theme of the post.My height is 165 sm, I weight 54 kg and my measurements are 98 – 56 – 95 in sm .. I’m not from America so I don’t know how to turn centimeters into inches and kilograms to lbs. I would be very happy if someone turns them for me.. Thank you and sorry again for asking this here :s
You are 5’5″, weigh 119lbs and your measurements are 38.6 – 22 – 37.4 in inches.
Even though I’ve lived in several countries where they use different systems, I still need to use converters to change the measurements sometimes! So don’t worry about not knowing.

She has very symmetrical features which when they are all put together, look really attractive. But she has no exaggerated features or uniqueness which would make her completely and stunningly beautiful. There are a lot of women that look similar in Jalisco (her home state), where some of my family is from.

Beautiful, I like her better than the previous one. One thing that does make me feel better though is the heavy contouring makeup on her nose. I’m sure she has an excellent nose, but just maybe it isn’t perfect! Perfection usually isn’t beautiful anyway, it’s way better when one is flawed and still manages to captivate.

She looks very ugly in the face in the first pic. The rest, pretty but the makeup is horrible, the fake eyelashes, the layers of foundation (it is well blended though) and the brown penciled eyebrow gunk. I’d like to see how good her face is without all those lies all over her face. =)
