I sure hope you feel compelled to take similar action to those who may be carrying a teeny bit more weight than they should and say things like, “I would feed them celery” or “I would make them skip a meal.” Just to make it fair. I see nothing wrong with this girl and even if there was, I don’t see where people get off feeling so superior as they should be the one feeding her and make her change her body against her will. If she wanted to be thicker she would be.
I don’t think she needs a hamburger, but I wouldn’t want her stomach either, yes, it’s flat, but it’s also kind of weird, specially in candids.

I’ve still not recovered from the low waisted jeans and the midriff look of the late 90s. That is why I cannot like these pictures. I can’t even see the girl. All I see is the ingrained image of millions of bountiful muffin-tops and guts rolling over the top of too tight hip huggers.
Agreed! I don’t think VS is “bringing it back”–I think they never left that. The first thing I noticed were the jeans. I’m too distracted. You wouldn’t even find me dead in them, because I’d rigor mortis so hard you couldn’t possibly slide them over my legs.

BRITNEY! yeah! I remember people talking about how she must have to get a full wax to wear those jeans…which is now also pretty common i guess. I love this look personally. Not a huge fan of this model tho…i preferred Britney in them when she was skinny and cute…but i still love brits!
Haha I love that look! I’m so sad I wasn’t old enough to enjoy that look when it was around! lol. But I can see your concern with the look . . . People still manage to do it now with shirts that aren’t supposed to come up to their bellybutton.
My friends and I were talking about this the other day. There’s nothing wrong with love handles, or a little extra weight around the middle, but you can’t pretend that you’re two sizes smaller than you are, because it becomes uncomfortable for both you and everyone around you.

I like midriffs but I hate low rise jeans. I think on the majority of women, normal rise jeans look so much more flattering. Low rise jeans seem to push out any ounce of flab you may have on your stomach, and seem to hide a lot of people’s hips making them look more shapeless than they are.
The worst is low rise skinny jeans. Yuck.
maybe.. but I know one thing, when i am in a great shape this low rise (even skinny jeans) looks wow.. it is just that it’s not easy to stay in a good shape for this type of jeans.. so now i’m preferring also normal rise jeans.. but if i had a perfect body with 0% fat on my abs i will chose the low rise.. they are better when you have the correct body for it…
I don’t know, to me even people in great shape don’t look that good in low rise skinny jeans. It only looks good to me if someone is in great shape and they have very wide hips, because I feel like that jean cut slims down hips (so if you have small or subtle hips, it makes you look too shapeless).
But you are right, someone with the correct body could definitely make low rise skinny jeans look good.
Same, I like my body in low rise jeans, I wouldn’t say I have super wide hips, but for some reason they don’t make me look completely shapeless.
hmmm i like low rise on me because i have a big butt and hips and a sway back. so if i wear the normal rise i always have a huge gap in the back of my jeans around the lower back/ waist and then they dig into my stomach (which isnt usually big- cant speak for now tho =p).
However i do quite like the normal rise jeans because they look sexy on most women and emphasize their curves. They remind me of the types of jeans the supermodels would wear in the 80′s and 90′s.
I guess I wasn’t around when normal rise jeans were in, so I can’t really judge! I’ve just been so used to low rise jeans that anything else seems kind of uncomfortable. I hate high waisted jeans, I’m glad that trend mostly passed. I don’t have very big hips, but I have a good butt for my frame so I’d think low rise would fit better on me as well, although I have to say I haven’t tried normal rise.
I know it’s silly and I don’t even have her body type but seeing this shoot just frustrates me!
Whereas Bar’s lingerie shots were really encouraging, having these endless legs and tiny waist shoved in my face just remind me of what I haven’t got
Appreciate the fact that both Bar and Lindsey are modeling. It is not some kind of competition with one vs. the other and they’re trying to beat out which of them should be the only one modeling. They’re both models, which means both your body and the long legs/small waist body are normal, and attractive.
When you censor and avoid using bodies like Lindsey Ellingson in favor of bodies like Bar Rafaeli, you’re just going to return to the exclusion of the 70′s. The whole skinny waif look brought by Kate Moss was in response to the body segregation of the 70′s.
Could you elaborate more on this or tell me where I could find out more for myself? I’ve never heard of it before.
Hmm, I don’t know where to find anything online. It was part of one of my lectures in college.
Basically, my professor was saying that healthier BMI models and curvy models were kind of the norm in those years. Then more petite, out-of-the-norm models like Twiggy and Kate Moss became really successful because they were such a refreshing change. So then every other modeling agency decided that they would have their own Twiggy and their own Kate Moss, to tap into that market. Eventually what happened is all modeling agencies started hiring thin models, and it started to be a competition of who’s thinner and thinner. Combine that with the whole heroin chic movement, that’s where the ultra thin model comes about today.
When you think about it, it’s kind of bizarre that we put ultra thin high fashion models on a pedestal. I don’t buy the “oh they’re just supposed to be clothes hangers.” That’s more of an excuse than an explanation. I was thinking about this the other day. I get thin or slim models, like VS models and those of the 90′s. But from an evolutionary perspective, we really shouldn’t be idolizing people who are 5’10 and 90 pounds. It’s pretty weird what society can make us do against our own nature.
your comment doesn’t make sense. Twiggy was a model in the sixties, cited as being the first of the waif look which generally disappeared during the seventies and eighties, then reappeared late nineites when Kate moss became popular. So how can either be responsible for something in the 70′s?
I think looking back with the benefit of hindisght we can say every decade had its own particular look, something often defined as much by the fashions, makeup hair etc as by the models, and equally if you look you’ll find models/shoots who would contradict that.
as for idolising models who are 5’10 and 90 lbs- i don’t. i never have and never will. nor does anyone I know. Most of them wouldn’t wear half or even a tenth of the wierd stuff that they send down a runway either. I don’t think high fashion has much bearing outside its own little bubble.
I think you confused my comments a little bit amazon.
I said models in the 70′s were fairly healthy and curvy, and that models like Twiggy and Kate Moss were a response to their curvier counterparts. Twiggy started a mini-thin movement in the 60′s because she was something different than the usual model at the time. Same with Kate Moss in the 90′s. I was just saying this is what was once explained to me in a lecture…it’s someone’s interpretation of history and an explanation for why we have thin models, you don’t have to agree with it as others have their own explanations.
As for idealizing ultra thin models, I don’t either, and I’m glad you don’t. But, at least the way people talk and the way some people comment on here, it seems like they do. I don’t think you can deny that you haven’t seen comments on here where people are saying they feel pressured to be 00 at 5’10 because they think that’s what it means to be attractive. I was thinking about that other day and I found it bizarre that people feel that pressure and that people go through lengths to be that emaciated. Even in terms of natural thinness, 5’10 and 90 pounds is pretty impossible.
Well, I idolize thin models, but it doesn’t mean I need to look like them! It’s like, you see a really beautiful woman, and you can appreciate her facial beauty without feeling like you need to be exactly like her. I look at Lindsay and I would love to be 5’11″ and a size 0, but I know that isn’t realistic for me because I’m only 5’6″. I do idolize thin models, because I think they epitomize beauty, but I don’t think everyone can be like them because it just isn’t healthy, and I realize that we can’t all conform to that standard.

considering most models are taller (5’9/5’10) they have at least 20lb on her imo. 20lb isn’t as severe on 5’10 as it would be on 5’4.
on a more related note, VS clothing is SOOO tacky.

I’m not trying to say one body type is better than another. I wasn’t implying that I wanted these types of models censored!
I have lots of body image issues and I was just commenting on the fact that somehow, Bar didn’t make me feel so bad about myself, whereas this just depressed me.
I do believe it has a little to do with the fact, as you explained, that the fashion industry only uses skinnier-than-norm models though. I don’t want them censored, I just wish we could get a whole variety of beautiful women.
I know Effie. My point directed at you is to remember that Bar is just as much of a model as Lindsey, so that means something.
Well don’t worry about it, I’m sure other people feel the same way you do about Lindsay when they look at Bar, because they don’t have her boobs, face or whatever…

Eunice, I’m a little confused by your comment- I’m 5’10 and think I have a small(ish) waist- most of my friends are petite but I also have a couple of tall friends also with small waists, whereas I’ve quite often seen petite girls with larger waists. I’m by no means saying tall girls are the only ones with small waists- I just don’t agree that small girls can ‘always’ have a small and tiny waist… although I suppose it also depends on your perception of what “small and tiny” actually is. Waist size is to do with bone structure so while a person may be small in stature, their bone structure may make it almost impossible to get a ‘tiny’ waist and vice versa.
I prefer Lindasy rather than Erin, looks more sweet, I think Lindsay is better for VS. Yes, she is skinny, but there are also people who is skinny and want models that can be identified. And her legs are toned, not just sticks, I think she did ballet, read that somewhere.
Me too. I have always felt that Erin and Lindsey looked too alike, and when VS was using both I knew one of them would have to go. I was hoping it would be Erin, as I find Lindsey a lot prettier in my opinion, and I like her body more.

Everyone says it, actually don’t think that Erin and Lindsay look very alike. I can see the similarities, but Alessandra and Izabel for instance look more like each other than Lindsay and Erin, and they were both Angels alongside each other (and even have the Dolce & Gabbana campaign now!) I don’t think they particularly needed to pick one over the other, although VS do tend to really push one or two girls at a time, like it’s been Lily and Erin recently.

I agree that Erin looks like Marloes. Lindsay does not look like Erin. I think what they have in common is that both are blonde and American, and VS must have variety of models and not repeat, there is the competition between Lindsay and Erin. In addition there are now many blondes in VS.

I don’t imagine at 5’6 you’d look very short next to tall guys. I think it’s a good height to be because you won’t look miniature next to a tall man but also won’t tower over average sized people. I’m 5’2 and my boyfriend is 6’1 and sometimes it just makes me feel ridiculous and child-like hahaha. If I was able to choose my height I’d go about 5’6. I tend to wear wedges pretty much all the time which almost gets me there
I am the same Deanna. I think 5’6 is perfect Mel…becaus eyou aren’t too much shorter or too much taller than the average person. I am 5’3 and sometimes I feel too short. If I had to choose another height then it would be around 5’5 or 5’6.

I’m 5″11 and I love it! I wear huge wedges when i go out too-being tall is nothing to be ashamed of. Vertically challenged guys can be rude to you, but that’s their own insecurities. Most people just ask if you’re a model

She has definitely a great body for modelling, but I personally do not like it very much.
She looks great and everything, but i find bodies like this just don’t sell pants to me. I’m short and have thighs, so whenever I see pants being advertised on a model like this they just dont interest me. I actually think they’d look bad.

Everybody has their own preference but for me personally she doesn’t really do anything. I prefer bigger boobs and hips myself. Just my opinion, of course.

They don’t. ‘Supermodels’ is just a term VS use to describe a certain rank of their girls, just like they refer to top ones as ‘Angels’. VS ‘Supermodels’ are like the next step down from the Angels.

she is clearly extremely thin due to her genetics. she is too thin for my taste but there is nothing wrong with the way she looks.
oh and i want to add, it always bothers me when i see people saying “oh but her bully button…” or something of that nature. if someone’s belly button is really the deciding factor in how we view someone and their body then we need help. besides, anyone with an awesome belly button must be REALLY special because i don’t think anyone is known for their spectacular belly button status. people say the same about megan fox and her belly button and her thumb. seriously… let’s all do our best to look at the bigger picture here.
I get your point, but this isn’t like peoples’ lives we talk about here, we talk about the particular photos that get posted, and I for one found Megan’s belly button very distracting in those Armani ads. We’re going to talk about the post and what we notice/like/don’t like about the pictures, so naturally people are more nitpicky than they would usually be.
I agree with you. It’s one thing to be critical, it’s another to over-reach with negative comments…. which I feel like happens every time when some one cries “cankles!” or “weird bellybutton!”. Maybe you don’t like a certain feature, but I feel like it’s ridiculous if it’s the deciding factor on whether or not the girl is ugly. That’s like saying if your favorite/ most beautiful celebrity to you got in a car accident and lost a few fingers on her hand, all of a sudden she’s ugly because she has missing fingers. I just think it’s hyper-critical, is all. I get this is a celebrity body discussion site, but we’re all human. And that one thing on our bodies that we can’t even change shouldn’t automatically make us “ugly”.

Flares are coming back big time this spring/summer…some even to the point of bell bottoms. From what I’ve read/watched/heard its gonna be flares, bell bottoms and wide leg trousers filling the stores in north america and europe…apparently skinny jeans don’t fit in with the 70s trends. Hope I didn’t upset you, from what I see in your pic I’m sure you can wear any of them.

Hmmm well I just recently cut up all of my old flared jeans into shorts hahahaha. I didn’t think they’d be coming back in so soon considering the trend was fairly recent from what I remember…Regardless, I will continue to wear skinny jeans

She’s really pretty, but not my favorite of the VS models. Something about her in the second pic looks off… I don’t know if it’s the pose, the clothes, or the Photoshop, but something is just… weird.

I’m a little late in replying haha, but eunice, you’re right! most shorter gals if slim, have a nice figure. And most tall girls don’ get hourglass-y. Fortunately my mom is a tall pear and I got my dads broader shoulders so its more of a candice thing going on haha

It’s all in wat ur idea of beauty is; if u need a magazine or tv or designer to tell u these 5’10 models r beautiful, then I dunno who else can help u out. I find Miss Lindsay awesome in these pics because she has a certain allure in the way she carries herself, looks at the camera, poses, etc. There are models in all shapes n sizes, from Kate Moss to Bar Rafaeli; they’re successful and ppl find them attractive and alluring because of that x-factor they got. Maybe some girls need to find their own special x-factor before they judge other women
