Heidi Klum Explains Why She Walked the Runway
November 22, 2009 in Heidi Klum, Hollywood Moms, Hot Models by Versus

Because many of you were wondering…
Heidi Klum didn’t plan on walking the runway of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last night, but let’s just say she’s a little bit impulsive.
“I felt great the night of the fashion show and decided last minute to walk,” the supermodel, 36, who welcomed daughter Lou, with husband Seal, last month, tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Klum, who had already been fitted for her dress, opened the Enchanted Forest-themed part of the show, wearing a vine-strewn corset and a full white skirt.
“I loved my outfit,” she says, “so I thought, why not?”
Her surprise appearance, known only to Victoria’s Secret insiders, drew screams and applause from a shocked audience during the live show Thursday night. Though Klum, who was expected only to host the festivities, said that while her new job behind the scenes meant there was “definitely less pressure,” walking in the show was a thrill for her.
“I’m proud of being the curvy model on the Victoria’s Secret stage,” she says, adding that she enjoyed the show herself.
See Heidi in a short black dress after the show on the next page!

She looks good and healthy and not fat at all.
Her figure in the second photo is absolutely stunning! IMO she shouldn’t lose the ‘extra weight’ she is reffering to, because she is gorgeous! I never liked her face, but I have to admit that her body looks great in that gorgeous lbd she wears!
obviously you can see shes carrying extra weight if you compare her to how she usually looks but for someone whos had 4 kids back to back she looks amazing i wouldnt say shes fat at all shes curvy i actually prefere her body in these pictures to how she usual looks she dont need to loose any weight but good on her for going down the runway
i like how she says she’s ‘proud’ of her body now, but she plans on whipping it back into shape. i bet in a few months she’ll be ‘ashamed’ of it.
Haha agreed!
The black dress can’t hide the extra pounds unfortunately. She has like no waist, a belly, and no definition around her stomach whatsoever. Too early to present herself like this I’d say. She should chill and give herself time, and not pretend she’s back to her skinny self.
That said, I doubt she will ever get her former model body back.
Wow! She just had her 4th baby- 6 weeks ago! (actually, only a month ago when this pic was taken.) Of course she still has extra pounds and “no definition around her stomach whatsoever.” Why is it too early to “present herself?” Should she hide in a closet until she loses all of the baby weight? Gimme a break. You are obviously either a man or a woman who has no clue what being pregant does to even the best body. Of course she won’t have her “former body” back-she has been pregnant four times. Seriously people…
I think we all understand that she had 4 kids and that her body can’t be the same.
When you chose to do a miracle like bring a life into this world, you make sacrifices, and sometimes, that sacrifice is your body.
But I also don’t think people are somehow obligated to praise her or act like she looks the same simply because she has a reason for looking different. For someone who had 4 kids, she looks amazing, but she doesn’t compare to other lingire models. People can express the fact that she is no longer a 20-something year old bombshell and doesn’t belong in a business that is used to showing off 20-something year old bombshells.
Personally my problem with her walking was her attention wh**ing, not her body. Because she chose to walk, another model Rosie didn’t get a chance to open that segment like she was promised, and another model got her outfit taken away. I think that was really rude and selfish of Heidi especially considering the fact that she is already a successful supermodel and doesn’t need to pull publicity stunts like that.

If by “doesn’t compare to”, you mean “looks better than”, you are correct. the other models are skeletons. If you think that protruding vertebra and collar bones are sexy, then I can see why Heidi might not be your cup of tea, but there’s nothing wrong with how she looks. She has a flat stomach. Even if she doens’t look the same (which she shouldn’t), she is still slender and beautiful.
That’s your opinion, that Heidi looks better than other lingerie models. Not everyone shares that opinion. All I’m saying is others here have the right to share their opinion without getting attacked. Just because their opinion differs doesn’t mean they’re ignorant of the fact that women’s bodies change after giving birth.
Also, “skeleton” models (btw that’s kind of rude, just say thin/skinny) don’t achieve much fame/success in lingerie modeling. See the backlash that Chanel Iman got when she did VS this year.
Old Heidi, Tyra, Adriana, Karolina Kurkova, Candice Swanepoel, Bar Rafaeli…none of these women are skinny; they are all slim and healthy. I said “bombshells,” not high fashion models. Some people, including me, think that she doesn’t compare to “bombshells,” but I would definitely have her modeling underwear over high fashion models anyday. I also understand that some people will think she looks better than the typical lingerie models…but everyone should be able to voice their opinion without being attacked.
She walked because she’s proud of her curvy body? Is that why she keeps saying she still has to get in shape and lose 20 pounds?
Or did she walk because she knew she would get lots of media attention walking the runway a month after giving birth (like Ale did the year before) and would boost her career with the attention?
Heidi, you ain’t fooling anybody.
She looks great body wise after having 4 kids!!I can’t believe she gave birth last month, must be the genes lol
I find it kind of ridiculous that this is called “curvy.” Otherwise good for her.
yes i agree. to me curvy is a nice waist to hip ratio, not extra meat.
AGREE!! With both of you
why is she covered from head to toe?
i think its fine that she is saying she is embracing the curves she has now. why is it bad that she wants to go back to her normal shape yet still feel that she is beautiful because she just had a baby? i think heidi is a great role model. she works hard to lose her weight!
i totally agree!
I personally think Klum is great. You can be proud of your curvy body but still want to get back to your pre-baby body. I see no shame or hypocrisy in that. I thin Klum’s always been one of the “bigger” VS models, at least after she started having babies. If you look at the show from last year she was at least. (Though I also think that was post-baby, right?)
Anyways, I think she looks great either way, and applaud her for strutting her stuff up there with her super-slim peers.
Btw, Versus, is there anyway you could do something on Nikki Reed?
OK, I will keep her in mind!
Lex I agree with you. It’s unbelievable that people can be so mean and judge her because she says she is proud of her body after pregnancy. Of course she wants to go back to her normal weight, because she feels more comfortable and also she is a model.
I also think many people don’t realize what it takes to get up there with the skinny girls. My body is somewhat like Klum’s is now (minus more than half a foot lol) and both of my friends are super slim. One’s my height and double zero, and one’s so tall and slim she could be a model. And as proud as I am of my body (and the lovely pair of boobies that comes with it) there are those days that I would just love to get to a slimmer weight.
And so whether or not Klum is sincere (though I do think she is) it takes some courage to get up there, reguardless.
She really needs to stop breeding. There is a global population problem….
spam
She shouldn’t lose weight and just should stop modelling. She doesn’t have a body for that anymore, lets face it. Even before her last pregnancy it was obvious she lost her previous model’s look and there’s nothing wrong with that. She’s a mature woman, caring mother of 4, so why is she struggling so much to be the same as she used to be in her twenties? She’s a gorgeous woman no matter what, her body is amazing the way it is now.
Her breasts are fake. So any comments she makes about her body should add the footnote that her body, her curves, are not real. She is not a body role model.
love the runway outfit with a passion
if i hear one more celeb comment on how curvy they are or embrace their curves ill eat my cat
