Heidi Klum Talks Makeover and Diet
April 21, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Heidi Klum, Makeover or Makeunder? by Versus

Heidi Klum reveals her new hairdo… and it’s a bob + bangs. Fist thing’s first: Makeover or Makeunder?
Here’s what she has to say about the change:
“I got bored… as we all do every once in a while as girls, so I chopped it off!”
“I grow it, I cut it. Some people never change their hair and it works for them. For me, I get bored.”
As for her diet, Heidi revealed:
“No carbs, a lot of vegetables and salad.”
2 on the next page!

The appearance is too funny so I am not able to hate it. She’s sweet
As for the diet:
No carbs, a lot of vegetables and salad. +
Working out for 1.5 hs every day. =
Losing 1 kilo in every 2 days.
Hard to get used to it, but it works. What do you guys think?
Very fresh experience… Said the girl while chewing on a carrot.
Too much weight too fast. Doctors say it’s not healthy to lose more then 1% of your body weight per week. 0.5% tops if you’re already within healthy BMI.
Carbs are not the devil, I eat plenty of carbs (but they’re whole grains, tons of veggies, low fat dairy, fruit) and I’m skinny, and maintain it easily.
You need carbs for energy, plus vegetables are carbs.
Also can’t lose 1kg of FAT every 2 days. If you want to loose water weight and lean tissue whilst making yourself ill, go ahead….
There’s no such thing as “no carbs”,vegetables have carbohydrates, even meat and fish contain a very small percent. The only thing “carb free” are fats and oils. I’m pretty sure Heidi meant no excessive simple carbs like any grains or grain derived products, like bread, cereal, pasta, etc. or refined sugars (she probably eats fruit). Sounds like she has been asked the question so many times she gave a quick, vague answer that she assumed people would understand.
Personally I believe in an anti candidias/anti fungal diet with certain grains prepared properly so they can be digested without the enzyme inhibitors they contain in their raw form. (sprouted, soaked, cultured, fermented, etc). But I stay away from wheat, yeast, sugar, in general, whcih is pretty much the diet I think she is talking about. And FYI, ppl ask, “how do you do that?” Well if you stop eating them for about a week, and replace with whole unprocessed vegetables, proteins, and fruits, you stop getting cravings for them, they don’t even look appealing anymore.
And yeah. I think that most women in the public eye lose weight too quickly, it’s not the healthiest way to lose it.
“simple carbs like any grains or grain derived products, like bread, cereal, pasta” – They’re only simple if they’re refined and processed.
I dare you to call pumpernickel bread a simple carb. Or a bowl of steel cut oats. Or whole wheat pasta.
Grains – another evil nutrient now. While it’s normal for people who have gluten intolerance to not eat them, for a normal person, they’re a good source of nutrients.
NO nutritionist would approve of this “diet” maybe for unhealthy weight loss, muscle loss and fatigue but when it comes to a balanced healthy diet for longevity and a full healthy life…absolutely not. Also, most vegetables dont count as carbs when you calculate your daily carbs except for starchy vegetables such as carrots because they are high in sugar and high on the glycemic index.
petra, you’re right.
but without good carbs (dark bread etc.) i soon start feel weak.
workout and no carbs will help you loose fast weight.
i don’t like heidis new haircut and since her last time giving birth her body doesn’t seem to get back in shape as usual.
I also eat lots of fruits, tuna, seafood, meat, chicken, even cheese, biscuits, whole grain toast or pop corn treats. Light versions of course.
I didn’t cut out carbs, just going for low calorie fresh food and try to burn more than I eat. No Doritos, more math…
After cardio, I work with weights too and I am surprisingly energetic.
I have to admit that for 3 weeks, I only lost 1-2 kilos per week. But it changed!
I was also too pale before, now I have rosy cheeks. Another thing: I only started to sweat in the gym after 2-3 weeks. I mean, literally. It was strange.
I promise, whenever I feel week, I eat. I am not able to starve myself. I will be back with more numbers in a few weeks.
The haircut makes her look old.
As for her diet: I could never live without eating carbs, I just LOVE bread and pasta. I think it’s kind of sad to restrict yourself all of the time because you want to look good.
While I understand that people have different metabolisms and because of that carbs have a different effects on people I also think it’s important and healthy to find a balance, instead of cutting out something important as carbs.
It’s okay. I think it’ll look better once it’s grown out a little, and she can push her fringe to the side.
She looks more mature, not old, just more grown up.
No carbs? Not all carbs are bad, complex carbohydrates are good for you, just cut out the white bread cakes and biscuits but not ALL carbs.
Oh well, it seems to work for her, people have to figure out for themselves what is best for their bodies.
the haircut makes her look like Anita Pallenberg (: love it.
She looks amazing for someone who has had 4 kids! She looks amazing anyway, because if I didn’t know who she was, I would just assume she’s amazin-looking and has never had kids!
Don’t like her diet. We are made to eat and digest carbs. They’re part of a balanced meal and part of the food pyramid. I can understand cutting out complex carbs, although to never eat a complex carb is also kind of stupid. But, to each their own.
Vegetable and salad…two totally different things.
Heidi next time eat just the salad and avoid vegetables. I bet I gave you something to think about!
omg i hate it when people think carbs are bad for you, you neeeeed them, they are the bodies main source of energy! Grrr
She’s lovely as always and she has the glow on her face too
carbs one way, but it seems she doesn’t eat proteins and that’s ridiculous.
To be fair, vegetables have carbs.
still, I see yall’s point.
I’m no nutritionist but a firm believer in on filling up your plate with 2/3 vegetables and 1/3 meat. Work out for 1.5 hours or maybe even two if you have time 4-5 times a week .Cardio lift weight (it burns fat). You need to rest your muscles. Lot’s of water eat good 60% of the time and 40% indulge (controlled). So 5 days eat good 2 indulge. Lotsss of water try to limit you juice intake fruit (fresh not canned). I’m sorry but I love carbs too much to give them up. But if it ain’t broke don’t fix it she looks amazing!!!!
I like her hairdo. I think is flatering for her.
About the body … it is one of the most beautiful and fit body.
And I like her attitude to: decided.
I like the hair. Kinda cute.
The haircut is pretty and suits her.
Restricting too much for a long period is awful. Ruins your thyroxine levels and your estrogen. Leaving aside all the bone and brain problems derived from that… You’ll eventually get fat, because of a self-induced hypothyroidism.
Without carbs, I have no energy. I become a complete biyotch. So gotta have my fruits and my high fiber oat bran with some organic all natural honey and vanilla flavouring. Mmmm. ^_^
boxy body. average face. haircut unflattering. don’t get her….
I really love her hair, and her dress, and her shoes, and definitely her body. (: I’d love to have her outfit.
You have no energy with limited carbs because your body is adjusting. Most of you don’t realize that our bodies have more than one metabolic pathway. Meaning, we can burn carbs as a main source of energy, but we can also burn fat. The transition between burning carbs and fat for energy can be pretty rough, with low energy, etc. However once you adjust, you may find you have more energy than before.
Think about what our ancestors ate before agriculture. Fruits, nuts, some vegetables, and meat.
I don’t eat bread, pasta or sugar. I get my carbs from vegetables. Those of you who worship the food pyramid may want to look a little bit into its origins. Just because the FDA says it’s the way to go doesn’t mean it is.
I urge you all to read “Good Calories, Bad Calories” by Gary Taubes. It has an immense body of scientific evidence for the low-carb way of eating (not just weight loss wise, but health wise).
The book can be a tough read, so here are some links to a guy who breaks it down in simpler terms:
http://www.marksdailyapple.com/diabetes
http://www.marksdailyapple.com/definitive-guide-grains/
http://www.marksdailyapple.com/fats/
What you mentioned about the food guide pyramid is definitely true but the meat and dairy industry lobbied hard to have more servings of their foods included. The food guide pyramids to look at are the Mediterranean and Asian pyramids. People who follow these diets have much lower incidence of chronic diseases.
Agree Anna, I always highly recommend, “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon, excellent, excellent book.
“Just because the FDA says it’s the way to go doesn’t mean it is.”
Um, yes it is. That’s exactly what the point of FDA saying it is. It has been researched thoroughly by the FDA, by WHO and by NIH. A healthy balanced diet includes carbs coming from grain, wheat, rice…etc.
Also, human beings befor cultivation still ate carbs in the form of seeds and roots. However, it’s rather pointless to even bring up human beings that old as a source of comparison due to the fact that since then natural selection has played a large role. We are simply not the same people as back then.
If you don’t believe the effects of time, simply look at America/Europe. Most people are soy-intolerant to some extent. Now look at Asia. Most people are lactose-intolerant. That’s because people in Asia ate soy and developed mechanisms for digesting it. And same for Europeans and milk.
And same for us and carbs today. We have more functional mechanisms for breaking down carbs since we have been eating them for milleniums.
Thanks for the links. I tend to feel bloated and lazy when I eat carbs (even no sugar no salt whole grain bread). I’m reading them
lol, here in germany everyone hates her new hair they say she looks boring and like angela merkel (i dont agree).
lol, I was going to say the new cut is a little ‘merkelish’ – tho Heidi is much prettier
For normal people yes, having all your hair chopped would be a big deal. But for celebrities no biggie at all. One week she’ll have a bob and be interviewed a thousand times about it, the next week she’ll have long locks. Big whoop.
wow this just aged her 10 years lol
and yea, when most people say carbs, they mean stuff like rice, potatoes, such. i lately eat greens + meat and i lost solid 15 lbs!
and from my experience with watching what other people eat, everyone who i know who is severely overweight loves those carbs. my friend is trying to lose weight but shes always eating “good” pizza and “good” pasta. seriously. that does not work. i think its the answer to dieting. stop eating rice potatoes and bread and youre gonna lose weight. and sugary snacks
Oh yeah, that’s scientific. From my experience while watching other people eat, everyone I know who is severely overweight DRINKS WATER.
Therefore – water makes you fat.
Same reasoning. Look up cultures with low health issues – mediteraneans, okinawans. They eat LOTS of carbs. And they’re not obese, and don’t get diabetes and the works.
Firstly, thank you you made me LOLing. Yeah, water makes us fat
))))
and as the second, I totally agree about your statement on low carb dieting. It is stupid trick. Usually professional athletes do that before they compete and they want to lose some water. It has nothing to do with real fat loss.
And from my experience watching what other people eat, people who are severely overweight love carbs…and eat double the recommended amount. As well as double the fat. And double the protein. Double the sugar. Double the salt.
Seriously though, you can’t use an example of someone who overdoes something and say because it’s bad for you if you overdo it, it’s bad completely.
Suzushii, thank you for being a voice of reason on here with your comments!
she reminds me a little of jennifer lopez in the face in the last picture….am I crazy?
What is it with this no carb shit? No REFINED carbs makes sense, but I never hear celebrities differentiate between good and bad. They just say they cut carbs entirely, which is stupid, and really hard to keep up.
As long as she’s eating protein too, her diet is right on track.
All you wheat or rice lovers, sorry, your body does not NEED wheat or rice. If you can’t whean yourself, fine, but thats your lack of discipline and not Heidi’s craziness.
I love the haircut. It has a little girlish charm.
thank you! exactly! just cutting carbs out is making me lose weight. i eat carbs- gain or stay same. dont eat carbs- lose
Lack of discipline? (removed by admin).
For that matter, a body does not NEED carbs. But long term low carbing is a HEAVY strain on the kidneys, and you can end up with renal failure.
Oh yeah, I certainly don’t need the B, E vitamins, zinc, magnesium, and fiber. God, grains are so bad. Especially since they sweep my intestines clean and lower my risk of colon cancer. I just wish I had the willpower to shoot my leg off, because it would improve my hopping skills.
Hey versus, you removed part of my comment, did you even read it properly? It wasn’t an insult, it was an EXAMPLE of a similar insult to “you’re not disciplined” so she’d realised it’s rude to say stuff like that.
But thanks for removing my comment and keeping the highly rude “you’re not disciplined” I was reffering to. That’s so much more polite then what I said, right?
1. The “you’re not disciplined” comment was NOT addressed to you in particular. The comment was not a reply to anybody. But yours was targeted to one specific visitor.
2. “Lack of discipline” and “lack of brains” and are not equivalents – the latter is much more offensive (for obvious reasons, even as an example). Your comment could have started a big fight and I wanted to avoid that.
I do not agree with what Ayox said AT ALL, but please know that moderating is a hard, time-consuming job that I don’t want to spend extra time justifying all my choices.
Thank you for understanding.
the vitamins and fiber comment cracked me up. so true. i think most people don’t think about renal failure is because not everyone can stick with the atkin’s or atkin’s-variety diet anyways. during the huge atkin’s phase, if more people had stuck with it long-term, a lot of people would be on dialysis.
totally agree with everything you said…i’ve been doing this for ages..and all i get regular blood tests because i’m vegetarian also and all my levels are normal…
Okay, can you not with the “lack of discipline”? That has nothing to do with it. If people are eating good carbs – brown rice, whole grain bread, whatever – in small amounts, it isn’t going to kill them. Unless you have a gluten intolerance, i don’t see why it’s necessary to cut a whole food group out.
I’m not blaming you or anything, but I’m struggling with an eating disorder, and seeing a comment that implies I’m undisciplined or a failure because I eat a whole grain every now and then doesn’t help. Your comment just rubbed me the wrong way.
Actually some kinds of rice such as the long grain variety are low on the glycemic index and not bad for you.
I like her new haircut. For me it’s not a makeover or makeunder, she looks as good as always!
i cut out bread, pasta, rice, all pastry/cakes/biscuits…and have been like this for two years now.
i don’t really eat any carb heavy foods….although when it comes to vegetables i eat all vegetables (except potatoes) .. a lot of them have properties that help prevent diseases
1. “oh i need to fart”
2. “did you smell anything?”
3. guy holding the umbrella “it stinks!”
lol, I just noticed the guy was holding the umbrella for her. Wow…
don’t know what to think about that…i avoid eating pasta, bread, sweets( of course),white rice and starchy vegetables such as potatoes….but i really can’t imagine a live without strawberries and green apples…i absolutly agree with people not eating plenty of simple carbs but as far as i know fruits are a veryyyy healthy food choice and as long as you don’t eat 10 bananas a day everything is all right….
Wow, I love her haircut! I liked it long, I like it short. Heidi Klum never ceases to look gorgeous. I’m sure she meant that she eats more complex carbs and not things like white bread and pasta.
make-over!! this woman is so adorable
