Halle Berry Brings the Quote of the Day
August 18, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes, Halle Berry by Versus

“I love the naked female form…. I just feel like that’s the most empowered position you can be in.”
“If the world wouldn’t persecute me, I’d take nude pictures every day of the week.”
… says Halle in the September issue of Vogue.

I’m trying to understand her point… because I really don’t… How is it the most empowering position you can be in?
Good to hear I’m not the only one who really and whole heartedly doesn’t understand what the heck she means.
Why do we always have to through the word “empowering around.
There are many things that are but being only nude with a female bodyshape truly isn’t one of them IMO.
Haha, honestly, I though the exact same thing!
I think this may be one of those things celebrities say to sound really intelligent and thoughtful.
I’m pretty sure she means that people associate weakness with nudity, (especially women) and that because of the beauty of the female form, and the appreciation of it, we actually have POWER when seen nude. Try: ask your husband to do something. THEN, take your clothes off and ask. There’s a difference
haha true. “empowerment” is the new “surreal” or “journey”.
I suppose if you don’t let yourself feel vulnerable?
When we “humans” can peel back our layers to the suit we were born in and still remain standing tall in the face of others, not wither, want to hide, feel lost and embarassed we are mastering true confidence in self and love of our body in it’s truest form and who we really are. Not the who we pretend to be in our brand names clothing, make up, coloured hair, fake hair, medically altered parts, pretentiousness ego, etc..
I think she’s really happy with her body, Good for her!
on the other hand I don’t really like the cover, or the fake wig for that instance.
same here, i saw this magazine when i passed a newsstand today, i didn’t even recognize her, it’s an awkward cut
Why is her head dislocated? Is that suppose to be sexy?
she can take nude pictures every hour or everyday and the world wouldn’t know, so what she means is she wants to display her body to the world??
i think nudity can be empowering, my brother is an acotr and in plays is sometimes required to do nudity, and it doesn’t bother him at all, and i think to be fearless and confident even if you aren’t perfect is empowering. But halle berry is acknowledged frequently as pretty close to perfect, so i don’t know how that would apply to her. I always worry that when women come out with statements like this they are just trying to justify the fact that they flaunt their bodies in magazines and films instead of their talents. I’ll acknowledge that some people genuinely do like being naked, unemcumbered by clothes, but the photo part of her comment is just odd.
I have to agree with the first part of what she is- the female form is absolutely beautiful, in a way the male form will never be (sorry boys, lol)
i
i’ve seen a few boys I would definetly describe as beautiful
and this female form, aka me, is definetly not beautiful. I find the human body in all its guises fascinating, but it always amazes me how different it is in reality to what we see in films and mags.
I don’t get why people always say that. A strong nude male can definitely have a beautiful form. Imo, they look better than women with all our lumps and bumps everywhere.
i agree Padme. I personally like both…i think the female form is just shoved in our faces a lot more than the male form…mmm…male form *drool* lol
me too
This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever read. I think getting naked “for the world” is the opposite of empowering. You should be secure enough in yourself to keep your damn clothes on. Hello!? Hollywood is a bunch of freaks. I’m sorry.
LOL
“If the world wouldn’t persecute me”
Wow I bet life must be really tough being Halle Berry
Well, look at what K Justice said above! Americans are in this weird position of being scared and titillated by nudity.
If I had Halle’s bod, I would want to be naked all the time too.
I would think wearing clothes for a change would be incredibly empowering. Nobody’s ever seen Julia Roberts nakedness and I think she’s considered powerful in the industry.
celebrities always say stuff like that, I think it’s part of the same personality trait that drove them to be famous in the first place…sort of this lack of self-consciousness, although I would never call it confidence.
Exhibitionism.
I’m sick of these nudist comments from celebrities. It’s driving me crazy, from Christina Ag to Halle. ugh!
we saw you so many times half naked anyway Halle ..What do you want taking a stroll in your birthday suit in public?
while i understand the power of female nudity, i am a little confused (for lack of a better term) that someone like halle berry is saying this.
it for some reason reminds me of the statement made by joanna krupa who said posing for playboy is just like kate winslet using nudity in a role… which by the way, in my opinion was downright imbecilic.
female nudity is a ‘power’ that is abused simply because: it’s everywhere.
while i am comfortable naked myself, it makes me sad how many women are stripping down to nothing in the media; those pictures are immortalized and SCRUTINIZED by everyone. it’s so wrong to me. and for what? PETA? reebok sneakers?
i don’t know…
After trying to make sense of her quote, I’m only going to focus on what I understand.
Yes, a naked woman has a lot of power. She can get a lot of things from men being in that position. Of course, that’s bordering the idea of prostitution. But aside from that, I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily empowering. You don’t really DO anything to seduce men while naked, it’s all nature; they see naked woman, they like, they react.
Personally, I find it a lot more empowering when I achieve things using my mind. That requires actual effort that can be used to build self-worth and self-esteem.
“more empowering when i achieve things using my mind” — beautifully said, couldn’t agree more!
Agreed as well. Very nicely put
How can you equate what she said with prosititution? I agree with Halle completely, there is something beautiful about naked women, every body type has some unique beauty.
That doesn’t mean I’m a prostitute, stripper, or lesbian. It doesn’t mean that I’m not also empowered by using mind….
To say that being smart and working hard is the only way to self-esteem and self-worth is not true to me. Women should work hard and use their minds, but it’s also important to feel confident without clothes on.
I really doubt that feeling sexy naked precludes a woman from also being smart and successful.
“How can you equate what she said with prosititution?”
I didn’t. Please reread my post.
Also, you’re putting words into my mouth. I never said the only way to self-esteem is through working hard and being smart. In fact, it’s not, and I completely agree with you that it’s important to be confident with clothes on.
What I actually said was that it doesn’t require a lot of effort to have power with clothes on because biology takes care of that. Men get erections when they see naked women, and therefore will do things for them. It’s very effortless on our part. As a result, to me personally, it’s not a huge accomplishment. A bigger accomplishment to me is to get men to do things without taking off my clothes simply because it’s harder.
I think I kinda get what she’s saying, I mean honestly I like being naked too haha but um yeah idk if I’d say I feel “empowered” by it. Just relaxed enough to make naked kool-aide
Also I love being naked,I am always half-naked at my home and I love seducing my fiancé by my nudity(lol)..What irritates me about her comment is that fact that she wants to strike naked poses for the magazine covers(as she is afraid of the persecution of the world) ..It seems like she needs attention or she needs to be praised even more(for her beauty) and that sounds obviously self-conscious..
lol…. yeah because no guy would actually want to see this woman naked… especially with her horrible body. If I had her body, I wouldn’t care if I were naked every day too.
I don`t like her with that her style but her face still looks beautiful!
omg, Halle. Always with the persecution complex.
if i’d be Halle, and look like she does, i’d take naked photos of myself all the time, too. gorgeous woman
I like Halle, but that’s a stupid comment. Appreciating your naked body doesn’t mean having to take pictures of it and show them off. If you love your body and respect it, you can at least keep the most intimate parts of it private and for your boyfriend/husband’s eyes only. Otherwise, what else does your man get to see that everyone else hasn’t?
