Christina Aguilera Gets Photoshopped for Latina and Brings Today’s Quotes
February 10, 2012 in Christina Aguilera, Photoshop Job by Versus

On how she handles gossip: “I don’t read them. Ever…Why read what people are saying—good or bad?”
On criticisms of not being Latina enough: “I’ve dealt with that my whole life. I don’t speak the language fluently. And I’m split right down the middle, half Irish and half Ecuadorean. I should not have to prove my ethnicity to anyone. I know who I am.”
… says Christina in Latina Magazine this month, where she got ultra smooth, unreal plastic doll skin on the cover thanks to Photoshop.

i think im one of the few girls who still loves christina!
i am too! but she’s still a hot mess these days
I do too! She still needs to get her ish together though lol
i get this magazine for free lol when I saw it on the table I was like she is latina? wat?
I still love her and even though this photo is airburshed it still looks gorgeous. I like her words “I should not have to prove my ethnicity to anyone. I know who I am.” I feel the same goes for Nicole Richie thing too.
latino is not a ethnicity! unless she is referring to her Spanish heritage.
Why should she have to ‘prove’ her ethnicity to anyone? I really believe that you can’t please everyone so you might as well please yourself!
Great comment!
Im pleasuring myself rite now
Uh good for you?
People are dumb they Gould criticize her because they do not believe she is Latina
I like her too! I was listening to ‘Back to Basics’ the other day and forgot how amazing her voice was. She does have the tendency to ‘over-sing’ sometimes but still she’s more talented voice-wise than someone like Katy Perry, Rihanna or Lady Gaga imo.

I agree. I personally don’t like her. However she does have a great voice. I can’t take that from her, and I do like her music. I also think she is right in saying she shouldn’t have to prove her ethnicity to anyone. I like her quotes here and if she is that strong then I applaud and admire her for that. However, I think she has been really catty before to people which has put me off her. She also usually crosses the line of being assertive and being a down right cow to me from what I can see. Not only that, she has done plenty of ‘people pleaser’ interviews. However, maybe that was just part of her making her dollars. Good quotes though on this one imo.
Who the hell says she’s. not latina enough? what a stupid accusation.
Regarding the photoshop- It’s no worse than anyone else. It almost works for me since i only see her w/ her a lb of makeup.
I agree it’s stupid, but i’ve heard that a couple of times from people who i guess thought she was 100 % latina, that it’s bs that she’s coloring her hair blonde and forgetting her roots etc, kinda like they say about Shakira sometimes. But that was just a few times really, i don’t know which sort of people Christina is referring to.. completely idiotic anyways.
So stupid. Dying your hair blonde doesn’t mean your trying to disguise your ethnicity, there are people with natural blonde hair who are latina and also it’s a popular hair colour to use to dye anyway, in many places!
She doesn’t look like a typical Latina regardless of her hair color. She has had black hair before and didn’t look Latina then either. I am not saying she isn’t half Latina, she is just doesn’t look like it from her appearance.
I’m not defending Christina, but prejudices and stereotypes play a huge role in this: you say “latina”, many would respond “JLo” and think that just because someone isn’t (physically) like her, she isn’t Latina. Some people don’t know about the history of many countries and just do classifications based on nothing.
Kind of like people of Mediterrean origins, who can be fair as much as dark, or Nordic people with dark hair/eyes, or Asians, who have completely different ethnic backgrounds…
she got the straight out latina brows
Latinos are Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. Many of them are blond with light eyes. Aguilera is a Spanish surname. whether with respect to Latin American Latino, is not an ethnicity .. only have been born in Latin America and speak Latin languages.
She’s not Latina at all..if she were, she’d be proud of it..that’s what Latins are..and Latins are Spanish, Portuguese, Italian yeah, but also French and Romanian…although she comes from Latin America where it’s not so important the language as it is the joy of celebrating life, a different culture, a different mentality, life for them is life in the rhythm of music..she’s not proud of that Latin part of who shes is, so why being on the Latina’s cover? she doesn’t deserve it!!!!
Could they have photoshopped her ANY more? Damn she looks like a wax dummy.
Agreed lc! I mean she has no pores lol
yay. her face looks like a flat pancake because of the photoshop
Ehh, I don’t like headshots for cover pictures. It’s just too much face that isn’t flattering for anyone.
I don’t think that cover is very photoshopped, she’s recognizable. I don’t mind Christina, she gets too much criticism for everything.
i love christina i hope her music wont be anything like the gagas and the riris ………..i got nothing to say about her but i just wish she can lay off the red lipstick clown like make up for awhile , more softer ala genie in the bottle days look i dont know …………
She is who she is and she shouldn’t have to prove her ethnicity to anyone.
She’s photoshopped, big deal!!! Everyone is photoshopped in magazines. She’s still very talented!
Agreed Pixie! To me photoshopping is the norm, I take images I see in these magazines with a (huge) pinch of salt.
I like her strong views about herself and keeping it real — although, wish she would have stepped up to the publisher of that magazine and protest about looking like a mannequin.
there were days when i found her attractive. but not anymore. she lost it all.
She always comes across like she thinks shes gods gift to music. Her voice is incredibly overrated imo. That and the fact that theres so many stories of her being incredibly makes me really not like her.
i think this applies to a lot of pop stars though. i happen to really like christina’s music so it doesn’t bother me that much, but i’d say she’s a bit overrated as far as singing abilities go. I know it’s pointless to compare opera etc to singing techniques used in , because it’s a different ballgame, partially different audience and all that, but sometimes it pains me when i go to opera or just some random concerts where the singers are so disgustingly amazing and i know they’ve worked decades to perfect their art and still they will never get as much recognition as some popper. yes not everyone wants to be hugely famous and awesome talent always finds its audience but i guess this feeling comes mostly when i keep reading about Gagas super singing abilities or stuff like that. what do i care though
rant over.
Also as a green eyed pale as snow mexican, i can honestly say that not looking latina has never been something ive had to “deal” with. Maybe its where i grew up but looking white has sadly been an advantage. If i had a nickel for everytime someone Who didnt know i was hispanic made a snide little remark about mexicans to me…
I think the criticism with her being Latina stemmed from the fact that she only started talking about her Latin roots when she wanted to promote her spanish language album. That’s what I head anyways.
I’m not really sure when she released her Spanish language album but I had her “come on over” single and she had the Spanish version of that song on there too.
Anyways, I don’t get the whole you’re not “ethnic” enough argument (whatever that ethnicity may be). People are what they are and don’t have to act/look a certain way to prove it.
Exactly.
She’s a total hot mess these days but i really still love her and she’s right about ethnicity thing
She looks extremely photoshopped, still not attractive tho^^.
I think she is attractive
her face is beautiful especially
I’d love to see a huge makeover on her, it isnt even the weight so much, but if she toned down her makeup with some nice earthy neutrals and matched her hair, maybe a more natural blonde color or even brunette I think would be amazing.
She is always so harsh, with her makeup, with her hair. If shes not white blond, she is black. It would be nice to see her more natural for a change
lol, this is out of control.
I kinda know how she feels. I’m half English and half Mexican/Spanish, and growing up I’d have to visit relatives that I couldn’t even communicate with. It was always so boring. I’ve taken several years of Spanish classes, but it never really stuck…plus people say I look and act white lol.
Same here, I went to visit my relatives in Spain and I was totally lost…I’ve never been able to pick up the language. I’m also told that I don’t look Spanish because I’m so pale.
This article doesnt show the other photos from the magazine, they have behind the scenes photos of this photoshoot and obviously the cover is shopped but her skin is damn near this flawless
I agree with Christina. If she’s half Ecuadorian then she is half Latina. It doesn’t matter what colour her hair and eyes are. Sofia Vergara is a Latina from Colombia and she is a natural blonde (she dyes her hair brown coz producers and stuff asked her to do it so she could look more ‘latin’.) It’s stereotypical and a bit ignorant.
Anyway Christina looks very pretty on the cover. Its obviously photoshopped but she looks so much nicer and fresher when she isn’t too tanned and isn’t wearing a lot of makeup.
Agree. I’m Italian, but every time I go out of my country people don’t believe when I say it because I’m blond, and they just don’t get it. It also doesn’t help that for many, Italians speak English like in The Godfather, when actually there are hundreds of (usually completely different) dialects and inflections in my country.
Latina, I dont get it. They never look that different to Caucasians to me. Ethnicity should not be about looks anyway, it should be about heritage and the way you were brought up.
“it should be about heritage and the way you were brought up.”
that’s culture.
They’re all social constructs anyway, used primarily to discriminate and hate.
She does have a very beautiful face…. when photo shopped.
Slightly off topic but this really confuses me: how and why are multiracial people always defined as one thing of the other. Like Obama being the “first black president”- when he is equally Caucasian. I’m mixed race as well but look completely white and people always laugh at me if I suggest even mention otherwise. It seems like it doesn’t really matter what you actually are- all that matters is your skin color….. phhffff!
@ Hmm, I really don’t know. With the Obama thing maybe he is described as being ‘black’ because of the legacy of the ‘one drop rule’ in America?
I agree though that people should ‘open their minds’ a little bit when considering race/ethnicity/skin complexion. I mean, I know some mixed race people like you who look totally ‘white’ but I also some who are darker than me and there are some black people like my sister who are lighter-skinned than some mixed-race people. Skin colour to me is sometimes arbitrary, I remember reading this quote from an ancient Roman scholar talking about skin tone: “day could give birth to night and night to day”, it’s true on some levels imo.
When Christina was thinner, I found her facial appearance more attractive. Now, even with all the makeup she just looks really unnatural and just kind of odd and not as pretty as I remember her.
people could be really psyhotic sometimes, hate on someone cause shes fat or latina..sick.
I’m mixed race and always get told I act to ‘white’ and look asian even though I’m half black and only quarter white and asian but people like stereotyping people that’s just how it is.
No matter what anyone thinks it doesn’t stop you from having that heritage in you.I think long as you know and like who you are that’s all that matters.
all this race talk is annoying no one is looked at like a human being all people are is a statistic and all people see is a color its so annoying people like her from south america are honored by everyone and the ones born in america of hispanic roots are honored even more
I don’t think it should matter whether someone looks their race or not – thats very stereotypical.
I’ll just add that I suspect she wears colored contacts.
And I second whoever said her makeup is too harsh.
