Niecy Nash to Thin Girls: ‘You would have a better life if you ate some food, honey’
August 18, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes by Versus

Oh oh, this ‘message to thin girls’ might raise a few eyebrows! Let’s see Niecy’s context.
“There are things that I avoid, but not because I want to deprive myself,” Niecy tells me during Flushing For a Cause event hosted by Clorox. “It’s because I don’t care for it. I don’t care for potato chips. I don’t have a big love for French fries. Some people love French fries – it’s coming on the side with the shrimp that I ordered, but even if it didn’t, it would’ve been fine with me. I’m not a big fan. Cottage cheese, not a big fan. Some things I’m like ‘mmm, I don’t eat it because I don’t like it.’ Because if I like it, I’m going to eat it.”
She continues, “That’s what’s wrong with a lot of people. A lot of people are miserable, a lot of people are so unhappy because they’re hungry. They need to eat a little more. All those thin girls walking around on Dancing With The Stars, they’re arguing with their partners – you would have a better life if you ate some food, honey.”
… says Niecy in OK!

Eating junk does not make you happy – it could actually contributed to feelings of depression and being run down.
Who’s to say those “thin girls” are starving themselves and not just healthy?
A healthy diet and exercise works to release serotonin and dopamine.
So she’s stupid and fat… congratulations lady.
Haha. Well said.
Obviously her comment was intended for the thin girls who DO starve themselves. Everyone on DWTS diets like crazy and dances for nine hours a day…I think her comment is fine. Of course everyone is better with a little food in them.
Instead of attack ‘thin girls’ then maybe she should focus her energy on losing some weight? Can’t be healthy being as heavy as she is.
Dieting and working out like crazy isn’t healthy, but hey kudos to the determination behind it. They might be skinny, but least they have the willpower to control how much they eat unlike this whale.
I am so tired of uhm lets say ‘bigger’ people attacking thin people. I never hear thin people complain about fat people. Have you ever heard a thin skinny person say in an interview ‘starve yourself and lose some weight fatty?’ No, they’re always pushing the ‘be healthy and happy’ side, always no matter how skinny or big the model/celeb is, always with the healthy stuff. So is this comment of hers deserved? No. I don’t get why everyone is so obsessed with the girls who are starving themselves, you never hear a peep out of them. They obviously have a disease and some hippo telling them to eat to be happier will not make that disease go away.
Oh and i would like to add that obviously not all skinny and thin girls have a disease! Same as that not all thin and skinny girls are on a diet 24/7… to assume that is just stupid. Some are naturally skinny and they can stuff their faces with unhealthy food, but that won’t make them gain weight it will make them unhealthy and sick.
well said, rAchel. well said.
I agree with you Rachel completely.
This woman really needs to shut up, because I’d rather skip the desert than end up looking like her.
I think her comment is meant to be funny, not to come down on skinny girls, she is after all, a comedian! And Im sure since she was on DWTS, she would know more about the rest of the girls eating habits then we all would. Kelly O. said she was dancing like crazy and not eating as much…which would explain her dramatic weight loss…and she’s been picked on for yrs for her weight issues…there’s just on example of skinny people picking on chubby/fat people..Nicole R. is another girl who was a little chubby and then really did have an ED from the media scrutiny and her friends like Paris & Lindsey telling her she was fat.(there is an actual interview where a woman asks Nicole if she feels fat next to Paris, its so rude) So its not just fat people picking on skinny people, its been the other way around for a looonnnnggg time…so I think the media/mags are trying to except people that are “healthy” thin or a bit larger…I guess so we have less ED and less obese people too…ugggg…we should just except people though, lg or sm, and leave eachother alone w our food or without it. peace~
Removed by admin* Even I couldn`t have said it better. She doesn`t know what she`s talking about. Or maybe because she isn`t skinny and she just starts bashing skinny people, even if this is their natural frame. For example I am naturaly skinny and I eat whatever I want without getting fat.

Niecy said nothing, I REPEAT, NOTHING about eating junk food to make you happy! I think you need to re-read that quote. She was clearly(maybe not so clearly) talking about the women who starve their selves, not naturally skinny people.
I think some of you ladies took one look at her, seen “unhappy because they’re hungry”, “Skinny girls”, “French Fries” and just assumed she is making fun of naturally skinny people and telling every person to eat a bunch of crappy food. I bet if Gisele Bundchen, Leighton Meester, Angelina Jolie, or Anna McCord would have said the same thing most of the women who disagree would have another perspective!
I so totally agree with you! she was not talking ’bout the girls who are naturally skinny but for the ones who are starving to be thin!
And IMO you are right, that nobody would have found the quote stupid if some of the other starlets have said it.
Yes, she was talking about a particular kind of people, but the problem is, how does she know the eating habits of the people she is mentioning? The girls on Dancing With the Stars?
She assumed they’re not eating because they argue with their partners? Geez, maybe they had a bad day. Or maybe they want to win and are frustrated with their partners. Or maybe they’re under a lot of pressure. Or maybe they’re injured.
The fact that she immediately went to accuse them of not eating indicates to me that she is either a very bitter and jealous person, or that she’s completely oblivious to the fact that people’s bodies vary and that not everyone has the same experience with food as her (ie not everyone gains as easily as her).
And to add to that, I DON’T think I’m misreading her comment. I read it just fine. However, I still don’t like it, for the reasons stated above. I’m sure those reasons are the same reasons why others dislike her quote, not because they’re idiots as you say.
Wow does nobody understand the simple concept of humour on here? It was a freaking joke, get over it.
I understand the concept of humour, I just don’t find these particular “jokes” amusing.
Saying things in a funny way doesn’t change the fact that she still comes off of as bitter and unaware of body variety. You don’t mask that stuff just by putting a smily face on while you’re saying it.
Wow, you girls are all so defensive, and have made me feel rather angry. She was referring to girls who deliberately starve themselves to look a certain way. If you can’t understand that, then I feel sorry for you.
If you don’t think that girls are starving themselves to look a certain way, and are unhappy because they aren’t eating enough, then you need to wake up.
Food makes people happy. I work in a restaurant, where people (skinny and fat) come in hungry (and grumpy) and come out much happier after having eaten.
To just say “oh, she’s stupid and fat” is so juvenile, and you sound like a very dysfunctional person trying to justify your obsession with thinness.
On the contrary, generally speaking, I don’t enjoy eating. Eating food doesn’t make me happy. It’s not like some sort of hobby; I eat to survive. Eating has always been a bit of a bother to me since I have a busy schedule. I always opt for a protein shake or a smoothie opposed to.. well, french fries, and chips. It’s obviously not unheard of to eat for pleasure, but I can imagine that it isn’t all too healthy.
still doesn’t change the fact what she said was wrong. and if it was so funny, how come no one is laughing, huh? i feel sorry for you if you think what she said was funny. i’m all for jokes but i hate double standard, especially when it’s about thin women. if a thin woman said that fat women need to lose weight because it’s unattractive and won’t get a man, half of the people here will have a damn fit.
i’m hoping she was being sarcastic with her harsh comments…..sarcasm doesn’t translate well in print…
Another &&&& promoting an unhealty life style.I agree that skinny people should eat more, but french fries and potatoe chips arent food.
Ooo please, if you eat it everyday that’s not healty, but every once in a while it’s OK.
You can eat everything: junk food, chips, chocolate, fried food,… just not too much and not in the evening.
Me and my friends are all about 50-60 kg range (110 -132 Lbs), but we eat everything. Just that lunch is our biggest meal of the day and a small salad comes with lunch. But maybe it’s just becuase people in Europe eat a bit more healty as in USA.
and btw, she in fact said she doesn’t eat those things.
**** potato
I get what she’s saying. Deprivation will make you irritable.
wow, people on this website are STRICT. I love my french fries and ice cream and chocolate, and I’m not afraid to admit it. Lucky for me I also love to run, so at the end of the week, I come out even and manage to stay slim.
Anyway, I know her quote will get a lot of negative feedback, but I thought it was kind of funny…
i agree with you. i’m sure she’s not saying one should feed on fast food and chemicals, but just don’t deprive yourself. and it’s true- i used to do it and was pissed and depressed all the time. your energy levels just go down. but if you’re on a normal, balanced diet and don’t avoid basic nutrients, you’re probably less likely to have those feelings.
i say, just stick to what your genetics gave you- a curvy, slim, fit, light, whatever body. listen to your body: it will tell you what it needs. and rest and exercise
I’d have to agree with Mizzy and CeliAmbre, she’s speaking against deprivation is all. eat what you want cuz you want it.
She is a very ignorant woman. Yet again, just because someone is thin does not mean they don’t eat. Before i was diagnosed with breast cancer 4yrs ago, my diet consisted of just plain junk food. And i’m more than sure that was a huge contributing factor in why i got it in the first place. I was only 130 at my biggest, but after the cancer i started eating very clean, i still allow myself some junk now and then, but the healthy eating and exercise made me lose about 20lbs. And I feel amazing, to some people i may be little too thin, but it is by no means because i don’t eat, i eat plenty, just healthy foods. So her assumption is completely ridiculous and makes her seem, to me anyway, to be a very uneducated b**ch!!! Maybe she’s just miserable because she’s a d list celebrity!!
You don’t get cancer from junk food (at best you can lower you chances of certain types of digestive system cancers by eating certain diets…supposedly). You certainly don’t get breast cancer from junk food. Don’t beat yourself over it, you had no hand in it.
Some people have a genetic instability which can lead to cancer. There are going to be enviromental factors no matter what you eat or where you live. The very act of living creates cellular stress – breathing causes free radicals to form, which attack DNA strands. All it takes is a bad mutation to turn a cell onto the cancer route. All it takes is one cancerous cell to cause full blown cancer.
^lol. maybe you should take your own advice and educate yourself first..
The foods you eat have everything to do with cancer, no matter what kind of cancer. I think my family doctor and oncologist and surgeon are quite educated in that field, thank you very much.
For Christ’s sake!!!Do you know what are you talking about??Go read some articles regarding breats cancer!!It’s funny seeing people around procliaming about the things they don’t know jack about..Some say there is no difference between formulas and mother milk and now you say foods have nothing to do with breast cancer!LMAO!
I couldnt agree more with your comment.
I’m sorry to hear you had to suffer through cancer, that must have been really hard!
I think its very wrong of her to assume that because some girls are thin this means they dont eat.
she as a “celbrity” should encourage people to eat healthy, not promote junk food and say that all thin girls dont eat because that is simply not the case.
Remember, what doesnt kill you makes you stronger!
I strongly disagree with you that celebrities should encourage people to eat healthy – celebrities are just that, they are not nutritionists or dieticians, they don’t have any special knowledge on eating healthy. Some people (including celebrities) may favor free will over a prescribed diet and exercise regime, and that’s alright, and I think it’s ok for them to spread that message because many of their fans may feel the same wayy too. Some celebrities may place more value on being thin and working out a lot, and that’s alright too…but to say that it is their duty to encourage people to be healthy is just wrong IMO.
well thats not what i meant, i didnt mean that all celebrities should give people diet advice but I meant if they are asked in an interview their answer imo should be “eat healthy, be happy”. Im not saying they should tell people exactly what to eat but maybe give suggestions on something healthy that worked for them.
I only meant by my comment, that if a celebrity IS asked then she should encourage healthy eating, not that she needs to mention specifics or that she should randomly be a spokeperson for everyones individual diet needs. Celebs are often asked in interviews about their diet. I never said it was celebrities duty, just if their asked that imo they should say “eat healthy” and just that.
their answer should be whatever they believe to be right. there are no right or wrong answers on how to live your life, just opinions, so all you can be is true to what you believe.
thats what i was trying to say!! well kind of anyway. but imo when a celebrity has all this power to influence young girls they should use it for the better
UGh! She’s talking about people who DO NOT EAT. She’s not talking about people who are healthy.
yea i just read what she said again and realized thats what she was trying to say! haha poor woman shes being slaughtered on this site!
I would love to have a little more curve, but i am not willing to eat the crap to get it back, i’m sure there are much healthier ways to do it.
you don’t have to eat crap. dairy, meat, wholemeal carbs, red wine, dark chocolate, loads of healthy food have high calories. just eat more.
and high protein will cause muscle growth
deprivation makes you irritable, just in the same way that junk food does. when your body isn’t getting healthful nutrients, you are depleting your body and and your brain. somehow we have become a global culture that is malnourished through both not eating enough food (purposefully or not), and through having access to too much unhealthy food.let’s practice moderation everybody, and enjoy what mother earth grows for us!
She makes a point,I feel totally angry and nervous when I am hungry I don’t know how people are following those hard diets. But then I feel totally exhausted and fatigued if I overeat.I love my method,I eat whatever I wanna(a moderate portion) and then I pay back and go do some sit-ups..
tough,I’d love to tell her “you’d have a better yet healthier life if you ate less honey”.
hehe! So true
Bimbo, you might be hypoglycemic (low blood sugar). I have this problem, but not until I got healthier and was at a lower weight did it come about. I have to eat every 3-4 hours and have protein and a carb each time. otherwise I’m physically ill, have massive mood swings and take hours to recover (after eating). You can find “diets” online if you’re interested. Not to butt in, but it impacted my life so i thought i’d share.
thank you very much Chrissy:)
But for a very long time(almost 8 years)I was having severe joint pains and lately the pains got so unbearable and then I am diagnosed with FMF.I had lots of analyses most of them blood and at every turn they are checking my blood sugar and fat rates..They are normal but I have iron deficiency I guess it causes my hunger-monsterness:(
Some people are naturally thin!! My sister is very skinny and eat like all the time! (And I’m not talking about healthy food!!) So this fat b**** should mind her own business before judging other people!
*eats (sorry about that!)
ehehhhh who cares what she says about a diet…she fat
your obviously part of the problem. Im sure you will do great things with your life.
Wow, calm down people. Maybe her comment doesn’t outright sound smart or fair, but what she is saying that if you spend all of your time avoiding certain foods because you are fearful that they will make you fat, you are going to be miserable. And it’s true, if you don’t eat enough, you are going to be cranky. There are naturally skinny people, and they do eat a lot, she is not talking about those people, at least I would hope to think she isn’t. She is talking about those girls who are so concerned with the fat on their bodies that they are actually fearful of “fattening” foods. But really, anything can be fattening if you eat a lot of it.
Well said. People are taking this comment the wrong way. She specifically says she’s not talking about chips and french fries, she’s talking about the food she enjoys. So whether it be chocolate or bran flakes or salad or whatever, people shuld just eat the foods they want to eat (healthy or in moderation) instead of being so restrictive.
i think when women call people hon, or honey, its the most condescending and annoying thing ever! pet peeve
What about when men do it? that’s even yuckier!
Oh god, me too. It’s a huge pet peeve of mine. I absolutely hate it.
sorry it’s a southern habit. we all do it.
lol, It only pisses me off when other girls do it in a condescending way, because of that female jealously issue some women have.
I am like a bear when I’m hungry. And this isn’t from like days of hunger-this is like a late breakfast. Haha. But that doesn’t mean I’m starving-everyone is less irritablewhen they eat. I eat 60% good and clean and 40% what I want. I get treats, and cut extra carbs when necessary. I hate potatoes and white bread. Not because I’m a starch nazi, because I hate them! Haha. People eat how it works for them. My boyfriend can’t eat fastfood-he gains weight. I can eat whatever I want and the repercussion is I just don’t like the way I feel after. I’d die without my treats! Maybe the dwts girls are just type a personalities bc the spend 9 hrs teaching untrained men to dance with them and bust their butt to make the man who cant dance look good! I know I’d get irritable.
When I’m strict with my diet and exercise I’m SO much happier than when I just eat “whatever I want.” Sometimes I’ll give in and eat a bunch of junk food, but then I just feel crappy for the next day. Yes sometimes you have to sacrifice fun to have a regular gym schedule, but there is nothing like that feeling after finishing a 4 mile run.
wow misinterpertation or what?
she didn’t mean to go eat potato chips and cheeseburgers! that’s what you understood?
she talked OBVIOUSLY about the anorexic girls who are moody and high-tempered all the time due to their poor diet. If you don’t get the right nutrients your neurotransmitters as someone mentioned don’t work properly and that affects your mental health.
She didn’t suggest us to go fat or anything like that! Just don’t feel like food is our enemy and we have to stay the hell away from it. Sometimes giving in your chocolate craving does good for you rather than supresssing it (just don’t overdo it).
I think it was a very tongue in cheek comment although can see why people might find it offensive.
Yeah, the people who probably aren’t eating, coincidentally
Haha I bet this is gonna get some bad reactions. I think I know what she is saying though- girls who “starve” (or just deprive themselves) to maintain a skinny frame are bound to be irritable and in a bad mood because that’s generally what hunger does to you. I know if I’m really hungry I will be in a bad mood. When I was younger and didn’t eat very much because I loved being skinny I constantly felt a bit cr*p but didn’t really realise it at the time, until I started eating properly and felt 100 X better. Buuut, cramming your face with junk food isn’t going to make you feel good either. Just eat enough, make it healthy, have a treat every now and again and do some exercise- THAT is the best way to feel good and err ‘have a better life’ IMO.
well, she’s right, dont starve yourself. be true to yourself. Neicy is keeping it real.
It’s obvious many of you don’t know Neicy or her humour….relax.
MOST people get irritable when they deprive themself…be it due to hunger or the simple fact that you may feel like your punishing yourself (wanting what you can’t have). I know many thin people that eat like crap, and I know many large people that practically starve themselves; balance needs to be made on both sides.
I believe we should eat clean, but there is nothing wrong with treating yourself, whatever that sinful treat might be (for me it’s apple pie…yum).
I run, when I don’t eat properly (carbs, water) I’m tired and pissy.
I totally agree. As soon as I saw that the comment was from Niecy Nash, I knew she must have been making a joke. Then I saw all of the comments and I was shocked. I guess people just didn’t consider the source. It is Niecy, is she ever entirely serious?!
No disrespect to anyone btw.
Thank you…I mean really. Niecy is a comedian.
way to go Niecy! You have a point and I love it!
How the hell does she know what the “skinny girls” walking around eat? She has no idea… They might be naturally this way. It doesn’t mean they don’t eat all the crap she does because they arent that big. Its called genetics.
By the way, my friend competes in fitness modelling…you don’t want to be around her while she’s training and leaning. Not a pretty picture, make sure you have a cross and holy water if you have too.
Why thank you Nash, but I happy to inform you that as a thin woman, I eat plenty. Probably more than yourself, actually. And I am in no way fearful of indulging, althuogh I prefer to eat cleaner for my long-term health.
Since we’re all making instructing people on doing things, perhaps I should instruct you to eat a little less. I mean, that could be your natural frame and where you’re healthiest, but since we’re all passing judgements, I can say that you have extra pounds you should shed.
God, celebrities like her are so stupid. Not everyone shares your body, your body type, your metabolism, or your weight issues. Everyone’s body reacts differently to food, and yes, some of those skinny celebrities do barely anything to look like that except hit the gym a few times a week.
It is not their fault that you were not built the same way.
removed by admin* Learn how to read in context! She clearly isn’t talking about naturally thin girls! She is talking about girls who starve or deprive themselves to be thin. Specifically, the ones on DWTS. Extreme exercise with little food is surely going to lead to being unhappy, cranky, irritable etc
Where the heck did she say that the skinny girls should go eat junk?! No where! She herself said she doesn’t like a lot of that stuff. It seems most of you people only read the title of the article in order to interpret it the way you did. If anything, the title should have been better. Honestly, use your brain readers!
I know! I’m reading these comments and i’m like; god this website is filled with morons who take everything so seriously.
jeez, she’s pretty much saying don’t starve yourself
I agree, but she is also putting down thin girls, who just prefer to be thinner.
By the way, I’m not super thin (5’3”, 122 lbs [nor am I fa,t just very curvy] ) so don’t think I’m standing up for myself lol
I do agree with you, but the context it was said in was a little condescending and rude and ignorant, especially comignf rom someone who is a little overweight.
Yes, it wasn’t said in the best way but that’s Niecy for you. If you’ve ever watched her you can tell that it was probably wasn’t meant to be condescending.
I don’t really think she is putting down girls who like to keep slim, just the one’s who do it the wrong way and therefore become unhappy. She isn’t saying all thin girls are unhappy therefore we should gain weight, she is saying girls who are trying to stay thin through very restrictive diets should let themselves live a bit more. Lose the worry it takes to diet like that and you will have a better life! People are seeming to take this as a thin vs fat battle but really it’s about methods of dieting.
I’m 5’7 and 130lbs. I would say I’m thin but not skinny, I’m fairly well built with some muscle! I don’t feel offended obviously in the least because I eat perfectly fine, I’m not insecure about that.
yeah, I agree, I’ve seen niecy so I guess I can just tell she’s doing this very jokingly… like she’s half saying something she believes in and half exagerating for humorous effect.
CORRECT!!
Man! Some of these ppl on this website must not be eating because they are getting very angry over a little comment that has nothing to with what their getting angry about lol! I agree with you 100% “Meghan”.
Thank you so much! Glad to see some people here use their heads instead of getting defensive right away! I don’t comment too much on here bc it is simply a bit exhausting to try to prove my *usually* correct point to people who just don’t comprehend.
I have to agree with you here. It seems that a lot of naturally thin women are a little sensitive about their weight, just as overweight or obese women are. I don’t think this woman was referring to all thin women. I do agree with her that women who starve themselves are quite cranky and irritable and they are probably not enjoying life like they could be. Anyone who has been on a really restrictive diet knows what she’s talking about.
I didnt like how everytime they talked to her on Dancing with the stars she always commented on eating doughnuts and loving her jiggly parts. Everyone knows she has jiggly parts and also I’m sure they could see its obvious she eats alot of doughnuts!
“All those thin girls walking around on Dancing With The Stars, they’re arguing with their partners – you would have a better life if you ate some food, honey.”
ALL those thin girls? All? Really?
Ok, then, ALL those fat girls in the red carpet like her… blah blah blah. Unbelievable.
Another overweight woman trying to promote being overweight. I am thin and eat a healthy diet. Healthy meaning I don’t deprive myself at all, I eat ‘junky’ foods in moderation with plenty of clean, fresh foods. She sounds very spiteful in this. Obviously quite jealous. I am so sick of overweight women trying to tell me that I’m unhealthy because I am thin.
To the person who said junk food doesn’t give you cancer, it actually can in sense. Not directly, but diets low in fiber and high in red meats can lead to colon cancer (look it up), and diets rich in certain vegetables can help prevent certain cancers. Your body is the most complex expensive tool you’ll ever get and you only get one, you know how you have to maintain a car…well that’s what its like for a body. People treat their bodies like s**t because the effects aren’t immediate or obvious. I eat healthy now because of health problems, and believe me it makes a HUGE difference and you ARE what you eat
acrually a recent study showed that eating your recomended portions of fruit and veg per day only raised your protection against cancer by around 3%. there are those that say if it had specified bowel cancer the rate would have been higher, but there has never been any link between breast cancer and diet. truth is we’re all just guessing. our best minds suggest a healthy diet is good, but they also say that being happy is a huge factor in longevity and good health.
never heard of this woman but i think she’s just having a bit of banter, and not seriously suggesting all woman who are slim are miserable.
Oy
Okay, a prime example of ignorance there. I am most definitely not promoting being underweight, nor am I promoting being overweight, but everyone HAS A DIFFERENT BODY TYPE!!!!!! WHY CAN’T WE ALL UNDERSTAND THAT?????!!!!!!! Some girls, for example: Scarlett Johansson and Christina Hendrix are built curvier. It’s just there natural body type and weight: they are very curvy girls!! And then some are naturally built thinner: Look at Kristen Stewart and Natalie Portman and Olivia Wilde. They are all beautiful women, and they’re healthy. They’;re naturally very thin, but not unhealthily.
People need to quit putting others down, and stop saying “:Curvy is bad” or “being thin is bad” and just accept “HEALTH” as the main goal. All bodies are different.
Thanks for the advice Niecy… but NO THANKS! My diet is healthy and I exercise every day and I am skinny. Trade this for what she has? Never. You don’t have to be skinny to be healthy, but neither do you have to be over fat to be happy. If she continues with the path she’s on I am certain she will regret her lifestyle and poor health.
I feel much better when i control what i eat, how i eat and how much i eat. and yes, sometimes i have to deprive myself from some toxic junk i love the taste of. but caring about what you consume pays off ;p
I think her message is that some girls who starve themselves to be too thin should relax and enjoy food, because its not healthy and not fun to be cranky and hungry all the time, which I agree with!
I really don’t think she was having a go at naturally slim girls….
Pretty much.
I’m beginning to think that people are so defensive because they are not as ‘healthy’ slim as they claim to be.
I agree with you. I think a lot of these comments in this thread are a little over the top. I don’t think she’s bagging on naturally slim women at all.
Yeah.. she sounds really offensive. I mean you don’t have to be stick skinny, but you shouldn’t put them down. Besides with her, she couldn’t be stick skinny even is she wanted too. I think that’s what most people in hollywood have a problem with.. everyone has a different bone structure. Not everyone can get down to a slim size two. You could eat as healthy as possible and workout, but some never can get down to that size.. especially for black woman..
‘especially black women’
…excuse me? Happy you know every black woman and their size.
Fat and bitter!
I hope she’s referring to having a balanced life
If she does, it makes sense.
I agree, I hope that’s what she is referring to as well.
LAME!!
I agree that people should enjoy food and relax about it, because it really is a pleasure, but everybody has to look how they want to look.
LOL! Thin girls eat. What is she even saying?
Looking for a better life in the fridge is what? Abusing food? yeah.
nice choice versus!!!!!!!!!! guarranteed to get people talking!
and is anyone surprised by the over reactions?
Perhaps the girls on DWTS are thin because they’re toned from hours of dancing.
With dancing or other vigorous activities, you have to eat in order to function and avoid injury.
And people don’t have to be fat or big or unhealthy to prove that they like and/or eat food.
I don’t really pay much atention when fat people, and I mean fat, not curvy talk about life style. I gain weight very easy and I don’t like the way I look or feel when I’m heavier so I aspire and listen to advices that comes from healthy and well informed people. Even here when I read the replies, I can see a lot of people really know what they are talking about and should be taken seriously.
Women who are overweight bordering on obese seem to have a weird perception on what is thin. Obese women at work call me a twig and I’m far from it. If I gained 8 lbs I’d actually be considered overweight. It’s like they want everyone to be fat. Sorry, fat people are prone to diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. I want to live a long life for my kids. I’m not selfish enough to just eat what I want and die early and I’m not vain enough to starve myself to be super thin. Both my parents are overweight and have diabetes. My father has high blood pressure and cholesterol. It stresses me out and I don’t want to do that to others.
Ugh I know what you mean! I hate when overweight people try to deflect their food problems onto healthy sized people by calling them too thin. It’s overt self delusion and it annoys the hell out of me. It’s easier to tell a completely healthy 135-pound person to gain 10-20 pounds so they look closer to you than to lose that much yourself. Arrogance and stupidity.
A little off topic but i love her dress
I just don’t like her she’s soooooooo loud, and I’ve seen her look a lot better in other dresses she’s usually more curvaceous.
If she wasn’t meant to be bashing all slim girls then maybe she should learn how to speak and put together a proper sentence to convey her meaning because to me and clearly many others, she is generalizing.
Ok. I was really happy when I found this site. I’ve had (and still have) weight issues and was glad to find a group of people who could discuss them in a civil manner, without resorting to posting starvation techniques.
Like many, I’ve noticed this website changing for the worse. People particularly seem to be much more vicious in attacking the overweight. I can understand their frustrations when dealing with someone like Gabby Sidibe (hell, I myself have attacked her). There is much more negativity surrounding actresses’ figures here as well – her hips aren’t toned enough, she has no waist – comments that make little sense because most women featured here have good bodies. I was honestly surprised when I saw good comments about Bar Rafaeli a few days ago.
I don’t identify with it anymore. I don’t connect how valuable someone’s thoughts are with how much fat they carry (although Niecy Nash has never been a bright one). My grandfather is nearly 200 pounds, but is one of the most brilliant people I know. But I’m going on a tangent. I don’t care about the merits of margarine vs. butter or whether Gisele breastfeeds her child. Frankly, I’m more focused on my own life than celebrities’, and can translate my worries better to my close ones than to a forum.
So, I gotta say bye. I basically wanted to thank the people who contributed thoughtful ideas to this board and hope that, eventually, it might improve.
Hey Sonya, I know how you feel.
There are still some good people on this site
wow she is so ignorant. im naturally very skinny i never gain weight at all. that doesnt mean i should spend the whole day shoveing oreos down my throat. i still eat healthy and exercise. everyone thinks i have and eating disorder because insteading of getting mcdonalds i will make myself a salad and some fish. im happy with my life. i love my body even though i have no other choice but to be super skinny. i take care of it. i do cardio everyday and i box so i can have muscles. and maybe some girls prefer to be skinny. ive never seen a super skinny girl on DWTS ive always seen healthy toned women. she needs to educate herself on some things before she speaks.
Ha ha!! Girls, you are so funny!! Sorry, but I had a reaaaally great time reading your comments, bashing this woman (who the hell is she anyway??), bashing other posters, bashing fat girls, skinny girls, potato chips and french fries. Funny. Really. Maybe she’s just trying to say that women needs to stop starve themselves to look thinner… That’s what I got from her comment though… You know, my wife is a size 6, she has a curvy but athletic body. We are very active people. We walk 15 km in a weekend, jog everyday, do strenght training, kickboxing and all that about 90 minutes 5-6 times a week. Plus all the walking we do because of our puppies. We eat healthy. Seriously. But sometimes, we go get some junk foods at the drive. Like once in a month. Will I become fat? NO. Am I unhealthy? NO. MODERATION in everything. Even in dieting girls. Wrong way of dieting to lose weight can be really harmful. Eating too much junk can be harmful too.
Everything you just said has already been said by someone else, including myself.
she is just an average guy who reckons himself being cleverer than all women..
I’ve starved myself plenty and it does make one miserable, but not as miserable as being overweight!
I think her comment was directed towards people who are too thin and deprive themselves of food. But eating so called “junk” food, and i use the term loosely because no form of food – nomatter how fattening or sugary – is “junk”, unless it is man made, like an artifical colour or hydrogenated fat. This is because there is no such thing as an unhealthy food, just an unhealthy quantity. We need some fat in our diets, just in the right amount.
Eating high calorie foods all the time, more than what your body needs, will only have a negative effect on your health. Too much fat and sugar will not only lead to wait gain in the long term, but it may lead to greasy skin, pressure on the heart, and a less healthy body in general.
Everyone should aspire to eat as idealistic a diet as possible, and eating supposed “junk” foods in moderation (either one big meal occassionally, or tiny little bits from day to day) NOT all the time, is part of a healthy diet.
This sounds like resentment coming from her – realistically, she’s large by Hollywood standards, and that might generate a lot of pressure to be thin and bitterness towards her thinner costars. Also, most thin girls I know eat – sometimes they eat a lot more than the average person! I know I eat a ton and I’m quite skinny.
i love Niecy Nash, and she is right. i think people should eat whatever they want and if they think they’re gaining too much weight they can just do some crunches or go for a jog, but dont freak out over eating a slice of cake.
it’s funny how people say we’re reading too much about what nicey said. if this was the other way around people will have a damn fit and you know it. i bet if i said ” you know you could have a better life if you would eat less”. boy i could hear the comments.
So true! The minute anyone comments even in a well meaning or non insulting way about the overweight or obese the reaction of how insulting and inappropriate any such comment is are immediate and nasty. But if we take offense or even mildly disagree with the reverse we’re overreacting and we should just go eat a cheeseburger since we’re too skinny and that will make everything better in our lives. Some solution. Cram unhealthy cholesterol laden calories in our bodies and a wonderful satisfying life will follow. Thanks but no thanks to that. Bigvinamac your comment is appreciated and it kind of got me reacting even more than in my first post. Let’s see what’s going to happen when I say I am very skinny and I love being just this way. If Neicy chooses to be what I see as overweight I have no problem with that as long as my insurance rates don’t skyrocket because she will probably have more health problems than those of us who are thin and healthy.
[...] of applesauce and a cup of milk on it, as if to say “put mine right over here”! Oh! Where is Niecy Nash when I need her? Who’s going to stop all this “mayhem and [...]
