Jane Fonda: ‘I’m going to tell the truth: I recently had plastic surgery’
September 9, 2010 in Celebrity Quotes by Versus

72 year-old Jane Fonda has a little confession to make:
“I recently had plastic surgery. It was a hard decision to make, and I decided if I’m going to do it, I’m going to tell the truth. I’m writing a book about aging, so I can’t write that book and not say I’ve had plastic surgery. And you know, I just decided it was for me — I don’t want to have bags under my eyes that make me look tired, and so forth and so on.”
“I have, in my life, been obsessive about exercise, about most everything. But one of the good things that happens when you get older is everything comes into perspective. I don’t want to get hurt.”
… says Jane.

she looks soo god for her 72′s
She most definitely looks good, but IMO she dosn’t look day younger than her 72, which is okay, I’m just saying
I totally disagree… I never ever thought she’d be older than 60…
Yep, I’d put her no more than 65 tops. She’s looks incredible.
well of course she looks good for 72, she had plastic surgery. duh.
I don’t understand what she is saying in the second quote, “everything comes into perspective. I don’t want to get hurt”. So at the ripe age of 72, she elects to go under the knife for the sake of vanity….How is that consistent with what she is saying?
Because when you’re obsessed about exercising you tend to do it in an excessive way.. And it’s a risk factor for bone fractures and many other things.
I know it from personal experience.. I love doing sport but somehow I’ve managed to get a tiny bone on my left foot broken twice.. not that i like it.. but I just won’t stop running..
Surgery, in spite of it’s dangers is pretty safe. and something as small as getting rid of the bags under her eyes does not present the risk over traing brings..
I don’t know if it has helped you understand.. At least that’s what I get from what she says..
BTW, she looks fantastic
Because the risks of the plastic surgery procedures that she does don’t increase with age, whereas the risks of exercising a lot do.
actually, the complications associated with surgery DO increase with age. Not only can the ansthesia become more dangerous with age, but the complications associated with recovery increase tenfold.
It baffles me that people take elective surgery so lightly. If I were her daughter or granddaughter, I would be very concerened about her.
She is a gorgeous woman. I remember my granma when she was 72 and she certainly did not look like this at all (wich i’m grateful for), the last picture is embarassing. dress according to your age!!!
That outfit is sad on anyone who is older than 23. It makes her look pathetic.
This woman knows how to be chic and she has a fabulous body for any age, so I’m not cutting her slack. Blech!
Actually… No-one should wear that outfit no matter what their age, its hideous lol
yeah…I have to agree with you there.
I like her in the jeans. I think it’s great that she dresses like that at her age. Who says when you’re 72 that you have to give up and give in to the polyester pants and blouses that most women her age wear?!!! She obviously feels young and she’s projecting that in her attitude and clothes. Good for her!!
Agreed!
agreed!
Totally agree!
Too right! She’s just expressing herself, why does she to blend into the background just because it makes people feel unfomfortable to see an older woman dress fashionably.
Absolutely! If she’s feels young then she should go for it! It’s not as though she’s wearing a “slutty” outfit. She looks great in those jeans. I think thats wonderful!
Isn’t she the spokeswoman for anti-aging products? Somebody’s gonna lose her job…
Yeah, because looking like that at 72 is so terrible……”rolls eyes”
I think Sonja meant that she can’t advertise anti-ageing products now that she’s gone under the knife. It’ll just look like the products didn’t work and she had to resort to surgery. Which I’m guessing is what happened!
Oops, I misunderstood. Thanks for clearing that up. Sorry to Sonja xx
i think she looks 60 …58 would be a stretch…what the hell is she wearing in the last picture!?! did she take that from the teenage section!
haha
im slightly disappointed though because i always thought she was a strong advocate for aging gracefully…..now that’s gone out the window…..but whatever if she feels good she feels good….she looks good and it is hollywood so i guess i should half expect her to have something done
i think she looks great, but didn’t she come out with a quote not long ago saying she had plastic surgery and she regretted it and wouldn’t do it again?
doesn’t make much of a difference…just interesting
I think in today’s world where plastic surgery and all sorts of cosmetic procedures are common and affordable, aging gracefully has come to a different meaning. When it used to mean aging naturally without requiring any external help, now aging gracefully has come to mean using appropriate and discreet procedures to maintain a healthy and not necessarily “younger” appearance. Jane Fonda looks well-rested and fresh, not overstretched with a too-tight face lift or shiny with liberal abuse of botox, and even if she had some blepharoplasty done, it wasn’t excessive and thus she is aging gracefully.
This is how I feel as well. So many people have plastic surgery now… I like the natural look and I think she’s achieved that (i.e. she doesn’t look younger (maybe a smidge) just a great version of her age). I don’t think she should endorse a product though because it’s not a ‘product’ that is giving her the look she has now.
I agree completely! She looks like a fantastic version of her age, rather than someone who is desperately trying to look younger.
I always said to myself how amazing and beautiful she is this woman. When i saw her in Monster in Law with J.LO my eyes were more on her then Jennifer cos for her age she looked amazing, not only her face but even her body
I’m surprised that she is being so open about it. If I was a celebrity, I would never admit my plastic surgery, because even though people claim that everybody can do with their body what they’d like, they demonize and dehumanize anybody who even thinks about getting plastic surgery.
Also, to the person above saying aging gracefully has come to mean something differently, not really. Plenty of people still age without getting plastic surgery. In fact, the majority of women do. The fact that we live in a time where we can fix that one thing that bugs us and gets in the way of us enjoying our life is a good thing in my opinino. It doesn’t mean everyone needs to do it, but it’s nice that for once in our history, we have the option.
i love her honesty!
i agree, no shit to her, honesty is key. respect. None of you are 72 so whatever you say about her, you got no idea. You have never been there yet.
So she’s had surgery. Her and most of Hollywood. She need not make this such a biggy. Surgery’s as common as going to the bank.
I’m waiting for them to introduce lipo procedures for cats and cheek implants for dogs next.
I can’t stand her ever since she molested Stephen colbert on his show. She is a frigging weird chick.
