Catherine Zeta-Jones: “I’m quite a broad girl”

Alessandra Ambrosio is a “curvy girl”, Amanda Seyfried is not “a beautiful prom-girl type” and Catherine Zeta Jones is “quite a broad girl” (OK, so she does have slightly broader shoulders because she is a goblet, but she is quite skinny). Catherine talks beauty image, weight, size, chocolate and cakes in this interview – From OK! Magazine:
“I find this wave of super-skinny women scary. I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve got to drag myself down to the gym like everybody else. But I look at the red carpet sometimes and it’s like a pageant. I’m quite a broad girl, not at all delicate. I watch what I eat to stay in shape, but I’m against diets. I eat when I’m hungry, three meals a day.”
“I ate for Wales when I was pregnant! I had this thing for pies and pastries. And I ate so much bread, I was like ‘bread woman’. I enjoyed it, but by the end I wanted to get back to normal. I love chocolate, ice cream and cakes. The only thing better than sex is sex with chocolate on top! I love pasta and the occasional avocado with prawns. My tip is to allow yourself a little of what you fancy, but don’t get carried away.”
And despite her beauty, the 40-year-old says she still has hang-ups about her looks – even revealing she doesn’t like her world-famous eyes! She told us: “[I don't like] my eyes. They look like peeholes in the sand. Hair, make-up, I make the most of myself. You should see me first thing in the morning! Taking my kids to school I have a baseball cap on and I’m like: ‘Why am I hiding? Nobody’s going to recognise me.’”

Well i’m kinda on the same page with her, she said she’s not delicate, and she’s not, she’s relatively big boned as opposed to that bird-like body type. But she has still been in the slim-thin-skinny range for her whole life as far as i know. And all the complaining going on in that interview, sure it sounds a bit like that “i’m just a normal person” talk, but at the end of the day we’re more or less the same. It’s hard not to feel insecure or unsatisfied sometimes.
I don’t think she’s big boned. Brooke Hogan is big boned, Catherine seems to have a medium to small bone structure. I really don’t see the broadness at all…
I agree, Catherine is not broad. I just don’t see it, all I see is a skinny woman who is just a bit top heavy.
Hmm i don’t know. I mean she’s no Brooke Hogan, and she is skinny, but i don’t see her as someone with a small frame. I’m not saying she’s manly, but when i look at her i can almost hear my mom saying “she has healthy strong bones” (my mom always comments on people’s bone stucture
)
And why i keep on talking about bones is bc at least amongst the people i know the small framed, delicate looking women are the ones with small bones, which you can tell just looking at their wrists or clavicles etc.
She never used the term big-boned?
theres no such thing as being big boned it’s called large frame….furthermore I agree with Della who said that she probably has a medium to small frame prob leaning more to her having a small frame Catherine is a vase who is top have with somewhat curvy hips and thighs and thin legs….
I agree with Sidney. I can see where Catherine notices the differences. She might have slim limbs, but it’s true that she has broad shoulders and her waist isn’t as defined as some women’s.
Yes, it does sound like the ‘I’m normal like everyone else’ talk, but don’t forget that without all the money and fame they are indeed still human! Even if loads of people find you beautiful it’s going to be difficult to change how you see yourself if you’ve seen it that way for many years. If you feel you’ve had cankles for decades of your life it’s going to take a hell of a lot of convincing to change that belief. Some might even rationalise that everyone’s denying it ONLY because they are trying to make them feel better. Especially if they’ve already gone through all the stages from horrified realisation to acceptance (even when it isn’t really there).

She is not broad in the slightest. I saw her last movie and I was surprised to see how tiny she looked, totally delicate. She is as “broad” as Angelina.
I get what she is trying to say. It can be taken out of context, but she is saying compared to the other girls on the runway, she has a different body shape. Her shoulders ARE braoder.
Also, I believe Amanda said she’s not a prom-type girl because to look the way she does requires effort.
The only one I don’t get is Alessandra, but I’ve stated that before.

I think the typical prom queen girl DOES put effort to achieve the ideal, at least the prom queens from my former school put more effort than anybody (diet, clothes, hair, make-up).
Yes! Amanda is the protptype of prom-queen to me, I have no idea why she said otherwise. she clearly cares a lot about being thin and so do beauty queens.
She said it because to her prom queen meant you were born skinny and beautiful. At least, that’s how I interpreted it based on her statements before and after that sentance.
I think Amanda meant she doesn’t have that all american girl look like Reese Witherspoon or Dakota Fanning or Ali Larter and she isn’t that thin also I think that she meant that she doesn’t necessarily have a gregarious and bubbly personality Amanda was the girl in your highschool class who had friends but wasn’t popular and has an eclectic group of friends she wasn’t a cheerleader she was in the drama club and in the honors society with a kick ass gpa. I mean this in like your typical high school like fast times at ridgemont high or clueless.
I have never cared for her ever since I saw the picture of her, heavily pregnant and smoking. Her body doesn’t appeal to me at all – no waist, broad shoulders and skinny legs.
Isn’t that second picture pretty old? I could be wrong, but she’s lost a lot of weight since then……this could definitely change these discussions though. If you google recent pics of her she’s super* tiny!
At university today i saw this woman – 22-23 year old – who had the exact same body type and proportions as Catherine. And she looked stunning. She was also wearing a dress the type Catherine wears, flattering her long skinny legs and hiding away the fact that her waist is not that defined and that her shoulders were broader than expected. And i thought to myself that her body shape is so beautiful and if dressed accordingly it looks stunning and elegant, just like Catherine looks. Sometimes i envy apple shapes/goblets so much. No matter what i do, i will never have that slender long look to me, with smaller hips and skinny legs. Every body shape has advantages and disadvantages, you just have to work with what you have and not cry over what you can never have (unless you surgically remove/change some bones)

Thanks; even though there are people on this site constantly accusing me of being mean and offensive and asking me to leave and so on… i will still comment, it’s just how i see things. I try to be as honest and direct as possible, regardless.
Uma, I think that has happened to everyone who has commented frequently and long enough to be recognized.
I think some people take “I disagree with this person’s opinions” and turns it into, “This person is mean/bad/etc.”
I think at some point people have asked me to leave too.

Love her modesty wish she would stop draping herself in fur even though that is a personal choice.
I think she looks good, she is skinny and has a nice shape, but she is getting old, her legs aren’t in a great shape anymore, not anymore smooth and nice, but wrinkled skin around knees and all veins are visible, but that’s a part of being skinny and old.. That is ugly really.. Generally she is OK., especially for her age, and not only

As far as her age, I’ve heard rumors that she’s older than 40. I totally buy it. I could see mid-50s, well-preserved.
I agree with what she said. She isn’t delicate, she is broad. Broad, medium/small frame but not big boned as such.
I have always liked her and thought she was gorgeous =) You can tell when she loses weight that she will never be willowy or anything, it’s her shape to be broader.
I wouldn’t say she is broad. She looks like she has a medium frame but I guess we all have insecurities.

I don’t get the relevancy of Gisele’s comment to CZJ. CZJ is not someone who has let themself go after pregnancy, whereas Gisele’s comment was directed at women who let themselves go after pregnancy and overeat. I don’t see how Gisele would ever refer to CZJ as a “garbage disposal.” Perhaps you didn’t understand the comment.

I understand wheres shes coming from. i read thats shes an apple (i guess a goblet is pretty much the same?) im similar and i also feel a little broad but its mostly cause my legs are slim but my upper body just wont give in and it looks broadish compared to my legs
