February 2, 2012 in Photoshop Job, Rachel Weisz by Versus

A new L’Oreal ad featuring beauty Rachel Weisz was banned because it abused our frenemy called Photoshop. Let’s see the details from Reuters:
A magazine advertisement for a L’Oreal anti-wrinkle product featuring Hollywood star Rachel Weisz has been banned by Britain’s industry watchdog the Advertising Standards Authority for “misleadingly” exaggerating its performance.
In its ruling published Wednesday, the ASA said the advertisement must not appear again in its current form.
“We told L’Oreal Paris to ensure that they did not use post-production techniques in a way that misrepresented what was achievable using the advertised product. Although we considered that the image in the ad did not misrepresent the luminosity or wrinkling of Rachel Weisz’s face, we considered that the image had been altered in a way that substantially changed her complexion to make it appear smoother and more even. We therefore concluded that the image in the ad … misleadingly exaggerated the performance of the product in relation to the claims ‘SKIN LOOKS SMOOTHER’ and ‘COMPLEXION LOOKS MORE EVEN’.”
What do you guys think? Is Rachel’s face in the image ‘misleadingly smooth’… or is this the amount of Photoshop that exists in most ads these days? Should measures like these be taken more often?

January 18, 2012 in Beauty & Body Image, Beyonce, Photoshop Job by Versus

Beyonce (under a makeover that includes a very blonde do) appears in a new photo that will be featured on her next album, showing off her thighs in a minimal outfit – but Beyonce’s pre-baby figure is not the one that captured the attention in this shot. Various sources noticed that the superstar looks ‘lighter’. The Mail reports:
She faced controversy back in 2008 when her skin appeared shades lighter in an advertisement. But it appears Beyoncé – or her producers – have not learned their lesson. A promotional picture has emerged of the pop princess looking much paler than her usual colour.
The new photo, taken before the 30-year-old fell pregnant with her newborn daughter, are being used to re-advertise her fourth album, 4, which was released last year.
In the seductive pose, Beyoncé dons a blonde wig and lies on a leopard-print couch, wearing a skimpy black crochet monokini. She also wears suspenders and a lashing of dark red lipstick. Experts told The Sun the appearance may have been down to lighting used in the studio. However this is not the first time the wife of rapper Jay-Z has accused of appearing to ‘lighten’ her skin.’
What do you guys think of this?

January 12, 2012 in Beauty & Body Image, Photoshop Job by Versus

Filmmaker Jesse Rosten launched a few days ago a spoof commercial called ‘Fotoshop by Adobe’ in order to highlight the extensive use of Photoshop in today’s magazines and promotional campaigns.
The video presents a few of Photoshop’s most used tools and effects, such as Liquifiying (as in making on skinnier, elongating and narrowing their figure), Brightening (of the eyes, skin and teeth) and Healing (of skin imperfections). And the tagline of the video says it all very well: ‘this commercial isn’t real and neither are society’s standards of beauty’.

December 30, 2011 in Kim Kardashian, Photoshop Job by Versus

For the millionth time, Kim Kardashian got a tabloid cover, posed in a bikini, got ultra photoshopped (both body and face-wise) and claimed to be a size 2 – even though just a few days ago, she was claiming that she is in love with her curves. Here’s how Kim got her photoshopped size 2 figure, according to her trainer – from Us Weekly:
Steers clear of sugar
The onetime sweets lover has dropped refined sugar from her diet. “Changing my eating habits makes a big difference,” the E! star tells US of keeping her size-2 body trim. Her healthy menu? “I wake up and eat eggs with turkey bacon, then salad for lunch and fish, pasta or chicken for dinner.
Goes organic
The newly single 5-foot-2 star has been inspired by big sister Kourtney, 32. “She’s taught me to eat more organically,” admits Kardashian, who has also downed wheatgrass shots with her sis. “She’s a bit extreme, but slowly I’m learning to love it.”
Sweats it out – hard!
There are no water breaks during the 31 year-old’s hour-long sessions with Gunnar Peterson. “Every minute is accounted for,” says the trainer. “You go from running to pull-ups to lunges to crunches to overhead presses. You get more work done in the same time.”
