Due to (massive) request, here’s a little post on America’s Next Top Model Winner (Cycle 10), Whitney Thompson. You’re welcome!
Granted, the first red carpet pics are a few moths old, but I figured that you’d all like to comment on her outfit – How do you like the cleavage area, is it revealing too much? How about the boots (their length, more precisely)? I think she’d look fabulous in classic cuts or in Marilyn Monroe-style dresses.
On another note, Whitney had a few intersting things to share about her experience as a “plus-size model” and ANTM:
It’s weird because those of us who are non-models say that a size 10 is not at all plus-sized or even full-figured.
It is because it’s not. It’s below average.Did the girls ever give you crap about being full-figured?
You saw when Stacy Ann was like “Whatever, you’re fat.” And I was like “Uh, perhaps you meant P-H-A-T,” which is totally my personality. There were a few times. I think the girls were a little jealous that they had to diet and they had to do this work to be super skinny, and I was like “Well, I don’t, and my pictures still came out better than yours.” I think it was difficult for them because the plus-sized models usually lose their confidence within the first week or two. I think they were like “What? Well you’re big!”It was refreshing that you didn’t keep hammering that “I’m big, and I’m beautiful” and that on the show you strove to be a model and not so much a role model.
Even though there are disadvantages to being bigger, in the long run the best thing that’s happened to me is that even before everyone knew that I won, I got e-mails from girls and boys from all over the world saying “I’ve dealt with an eating disorder and you’ve had me seek help and I see your confidence and how you do it,” people who were really looking up to me just for my ideas on the show, not even knowing I had won. I think that’s really the best reward I could possibly have.

Well usually the overly skinny people have got an eating disorder which leads to hard to achieve for teens/women which equals a bad body image. I agree that people should just ACCEPT all body types and appreciate them as long as they are HEALTHY. it’s not right to bash on a naturally skinny girl and it’s not right to bash on natrually heavier set girls. I think whitney is just trying to show the whole let kids have positive body image. I’ve got a body like jennifer love, minus the cleavage, keep the giant hips and small shoulders. And i’m fourteen and when I look at the stick like models, It’s safe to say I start to feel like bashing my body. Luckilly they’re people like her who help me realize it’s okay to look how I do.
I know what you mean. It’s almost like a taboo to say that someone’s “fat” today. I think that we should learn to acknowledge that being too skinny or too fat is just plain unhealthy. But, I think we, as Americans, find it easier to defend bigger people because the average American is overweight. Then again, there are some exceptions to the rule. Some people actually do have a genetic disposition, but too many people use that as an excuse to keep their consistent unhealthy weight. I’m tired of hearing that all fat people eat healthily and just can’t lose weight, and that all skinny people can eat whatever they feel like without gaining a pound; and that everything’s predetermined genetically. That’s crap. Sorry for my tangent, but I take responsibility for my health and wish others would.
However, on that note, I want everyone to know that I’m not hating on Whitney! I actually kind of like her. I don’t think that she’s fat either. But, if she doesn’t work out or eat right then she’s not healthy either. You can be any weight and be unhealthy.
I definetly agree with you. Michelle I don’t know what you’re talking about, look up the stats on how many people have eating disorders and how many people are considered skinny. Most skinny people don’t have eating disorders, unless you count eating healthy and excercize as an eating disorder.
I think curvier women (Catheriene Zeta Jones and Scarlett Johanssen) are just as beautiful as skinny girls (Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr). However, I hate it when people take the fattest celebrity they can find and claim they’re “normal” and “beautiful” such as Kim Kardashian. I feel like they want everyone to like Kim so that they don’t have to deal with their own weight insecurities. It’s easier to convince everyone that fat is okay than to work out.
Since when is Kim Kardashian fat???? SHe’s the fattest celebrity???? I think not.
I went to highschool with her. She is fake, not so much trashy, but definitely fake. And sorry to break yall but she was a stick back then (It’s true, you can go look at pictures, I would guess she weighed between 130-140 lbs.) and only gained weight to get on the show.

second that. too much make up, too much cleavage, too little brain. her comments support the prejudices, that fat or normal-weight people are too lazy to keep fit and too undisciplined to eat healthily. i have plenty of fit and healthy friends who don’t fit into model-standards and still are not wobbly-fat or unsportive. there is a big difference between toned and flabby, no matter if a person is skinny or big.
IMO, there was better “plus sized” girls on the previous seasons that should have gotten. Whitney is pretty, I guess she’s a good model, but there’s just something about her personality that’s just a bit grating, she seems like she’s hiding a lot of arrogance. It’s great she’s accepting of her size, but she doesn’t seem too accepting of anyone else’s.
And I don’t think she’s eating right, I can see it in when I look at her hair, it looks like doll hair in the last two pics, anyone else see that? Either that or it’s bad extensions/wig
I dont follow ANTM but I think this girl has a gorgeous face and nice figure (from what I can see) however I do not like the outfit or the hair style (the colour suits her though). I would not call her ‘fat’ or ‘plus-sized’, she simply looks like a woman with a more naturally fuller figure. YES we all have to take responsibility for what we do to our bodies and I personaly find it awful looking when I see extreme weights (Obesity or anorexic levels of thin-ness) BUT when it comes to our natural healthy weight (our plateau weight, the weight our body naturally levels out at) genes will determine this for us. We all should accept our natural figures because life is too damn short to worry about having the perfect body! I used to be rail-thin with a BMI of about 14.5-15, I’m 5ft 10 so my body looked like the typical size 0 models. I was miserable, I didnt like myself at all, and I wouldnt let anyone close to me.
Now I just think to HELL with being even one ounce thinner than my body is intended to be, it sucks, its boring, its misrable, and its exhausting! I am 1,000,000 times happier now that I just let myself eat and LIVE rather than just exist!
I agree with Instant. But, i believe she may not have this great confidence as she claims. I mean, if she did have it, would she be so quick on beating down on “the skinny girls”? A Size 10 is size 38 in EU, i belive that’s average and healthy. Women who has a size 10 is almost never overweight or anorexic, no matter weight.
Yeah, she’s PLUS sized, NOT full figured. I’ve seen pictures of her in ANTM with bikini or something, she doesn’t have a waist, she’s all belly! That’s not “full figured”, that’s being fat. I believe weight doesn’t matter, as long as you have nice shapes = timeglass figure. Sorry, but she doesn’t have curves at all (Kim Kardishan has curves). Maybe if she toned down a bit.
Whitney is pretty and maybe a good model, but i think the reason she won ANTM is beacuse they had to let a “fat girl” win, even though, she may not have deserved it.
And, what’s up with her clothes?! They are aweful and does not do anything for her body, more like the opposit. The boots make her legs look short with that dress, and the clevege is in her armpits, not between her breasts?! She should learn to dress to show off the best of her body.
And that leatherjacket, she should unbutton it or something. She looks like it’s not even something she picked out or even like.
AND, her hair is horrible, i hope that’s a wig or really bad extentions :S

A UK size 10 is a 38. I A US size 10 would be a 42 I think?
I think Whitney is gorgeous! She is by far my favourite ANTM winner. I preferred her blonde, but I think the new colour is nice too.

i love her. i don’t like the dress though. some plus size models are, like, really kinda overweight. but she doesn’t look overweight to me :’] she’s just normal.
I think she’s beautiful, but the dress/boots combo looks trashy and sloppy. She needs a more supportive, structured dress and some pumps in my opinion.
Oh, and 165lbs at 5’10 is NOT overweight. As long as she’s happy, healthy, and confident, why argue over her/care about her body?!
She has short Dark Brown Hair now and it looks Great, I added her a s a friend on facebook and people are right about the makeup, she looks sooo pretty without makeup
The girls need some support in the first dress . . . but other than that, she’s pretty damn hot to me! This dress would probably look its best on a completely flat chested woman. She has a very pretty face, also!
I’ve seen a similar dress on a flatter woman, and it didn’t look any better because the dress itself is just plain wrong in the bodice area, the straps/neckline is just too long.
Now that I visualize it, I see what you mean.
Don’t find her to be attractive at all, maybe just b/c she was kinda mean on ANTM. But yeah, she should wear something that supports her breasts and do some sort of treatment on her hair, it looks fried. Also her makeup isn’t so good imo.

No way she is 165 lbs! I’m about that weight and height my legs are much more thinner, aswell as arms, etc. And I have pretty large frame. She’s most probably 185 lbs. Just saying…

What is the interviewer talking about??? That’s all she did! Every panel, every conversation! The only reason she won was because she was the plus sized model and Tyra wanted to make a point! I’m not saying she was bad, but Anja (the slimmer runner-up) was much, much better.
Whiteny I think is really pretty but her personality is so white trash, “I’m-fat-and-proud-and-better-than-you-and-outspoken-but-really-just-a-plain-b****.” When one of the girls on the show called her uncultured, they totally meant white trash, and I agree. It won’t be her weight that will keep her from booking jobs, it will be her attitude.

In the article she is listed as being a US 12. This would be a UK 16. A UK 10 is a Euro 38. For future reference:
US 0, (UK 4- only in selected stores presently)
US 2, UK 6 EU 34, IT 36
US 4, UK 8 EU 36 IT 38
US 6, UK 10, EU 38, IT 40
etc.
I’ve lived in the UK, US and EU and, with vanity sizing, I’ve found this is quite different. e.g. I’m a US2, UK8 and EU34/36.
Hmmm… Is it just me or does she carry most of her weight up top (not her legs)? At her height and her weight, I would expect her legs to look larger…
I think that this seasons winner is a scam. She is is a liar and is actually and size 8-10. If you were to look carefully through the episodes when she is getting her clothes on for a photo shoot the tag shows 8.5 US.
Which just makes me think was she told to claim she was a plus sized model by Tyra as that was the season Tyra was claimed to be fat earlier on that year in the newspaper
She is not fat, is just a NORMAL girl, does not need to do diet, she lives normally. And you are all jealous of her common beauty, which nevertheless won to demonstrate that it is not necessary to be thin, have an odd beauty to have style and be able to wear “haute couture”.
You have to admit, that antm contestan it may become common if they chooses always a very thin, skinny, starving and has no brain person.
Whitney came to that competition to show not only Unites States but to the world that the stupidity of choosing just one body style to modeling… the others have style, but are not the only style.
Then if so Tyra Banks is “fat” too, just like you said, Tyra is a NORMAL woman, is human for God Sake, nobody’s is perfect!!!

What is all this talk about her body being gross? It’s not as though she weighed 400 lbs. and wore a size 30. Is it really necessary to pass such harsh judgment on a girl that (really) isn’t that big? She wasn’t my favorite on the show either, but she wasn’t disgusting by any means.
She’s beautiful, and not fat by any means, but the black dress/black boots are just not a flattering look for her.
It’s not about saying something bad about fat or not, we all know the general health implications of being overweight (whittney isn’t overweight), but you can be unhealthy and thin too (and it doesn’t have to be a eating disorder). I once knew a whole family of folks who had killer metabolisms and could eat pretty much whatever they wanted without gaining weight. They indulged in burgers, fries etc. whenever they wanted, didn’t exercise and they all “looked fit”, but they were supper unhealthy, and many of them were very sick (high blood pressure, strokes, serious heart disease, diabetes) by age 40. One died of a stroke in her late thirties.
Of course obesity is not healthy, but I think one of the points missed in some of the article comments regarding Whitney is that she is FAR from being obese, she not even overweight, she only plus size in the fantasy world of modeling.
I love Fatima, Anya, Stacey Ann and Dominique. Either one of them should have won.

I think she’s sexy. As for the cleavage/dress, well, its revealing at least 50%. The boots would have been better in another color. Too much black is not good. Beautiful woman. 5′ 10″ at a weight of 165 is perfect, she’s at the top end of here weight limit for her height. Moderate, persistent exercise is good for anyone. I wouldn’t be ashamed be be seen with her.
I laughed because the said in an interview that she didn’t know how to dress herself. Study the classic image models/artists long enough and you will get some original ideas that are great. Whitney looks excellent.
Um, first off, at 5’10 and 165 lbs she has a BMI of 23.7, which is well within healthy weight range (anything under 18.5 is underweight, anything over 25 is overweight). Though personally, I believe she must weight more, unless she has very little muscle and higher body fat. As they say “muscle weighs more than fat” although that’s not entirely true, muscle is simply denser and therefore you can weigh more but look thinner- a pound of feathers and a pound of bricks weighs the same but obviously the pound of feathers will look much bigger.
Would I want to look like her? Honestly, no. But I work very hard to maintain a very fit and lean body, and the average woman in the U.S. according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is 5’3.7 and 152 lbs- or, BMI of 26.3. So no, she is far from fat, or even “average.” Hearing all the negative comments about how she looks “gross” is disheartening to anybody who doesn’t fit within the accepted (albeit unrealistic for most) ideals of beauty.
Why is it so difficult for some people to accept that women come in all shapes and sizes?
For those of you hating on her, you’re just jealous. Just because she is 165 lbs does not mean that she is overweight or unhealthy! She is very tall, and it’s normal for taller people to have a little extra weight to fit their proportions. According to the height/weight chart, she has a large frame, but it still considers her healthy for her height and weight. And according to the chart, a lot of the ANTM models are underweight. If we’re talking about health here. I don’t feel it’s the case for some of you. She has sexy curves, she’s beautiful, and she’s NOT fat!
I think she’s gorgeous point blank. I’m very happy she won, the reason people are defending her is because not many models are plus sized is all. They aren’t saying that people who don’t defend full figured or PHAT people are bad or mean so just calm down.
shes gorgeous with little to no makeup, first dress needs more support and def. better shoes, idk bout her new hair yet.. She gave me hope for me to be a model (im 5″9 and 160ish lbs.) after being shot down by my friends, i love her, and maybe she was a little bit mean on ANTM but aren’t we all at some point? if someone called u fat or big or any of that, woudn’t u like to tell them off, ect.?! put youselves in her shoes and think a lil, some of these comments frustrate me, she is not fat or even overweight, i prefer her to some of the boney, little models(:
