Beyonce Brings the Quote of the Day
January 29, 2010 in Beyonce by Versus

“I always say, ‘I don’t want to lose my curves,’ I like firm curves. You can never do enough squats, you can never do enough sit-ups. But as far as losing too much weight or building too much muscle…I like for women to look feminine.”
… says Beyonce in Allure Magazine.
1 more after the jump!

she’s right
and she looks beautiful here
most men like her curvy body so no need to have sticks instead of members lol
so very true…i don’t know why don’t all women think like that: curvy, but ferm.
because then what a boring world it would be with everyone wanting the exact same thing…
And though she looks pretty hot in these pics, before she lost weight, her legs used to look like tree trunks.
what I meant to say is that while every one likes curvy and firm, curvy and firm comes in different sizes, not necessarily in a Beyonce size. I would take someone like Adriana Lima, who is curvy and firm but with long beautiful legs over Beyonce anytime. And there is probably other people who would rather someone bigger than Beyonce.
Share 100% agreed, I would take Adriana’s sexy bod over Beyoncé all day any day!
i disagreee, i would love to have beyonces body over adriana limas body!!!
im a hourglasss, but i think beyonce got longer legs or more space between her thighs, lol.
when did she lose weight?? ’cause i still think she’s tooooo biiig for my taste
really? i never noticed any moss or grass near her feet
And really, if her legs were the size of tree trunks then the trees we’ve got these days are pathetic.
actually, what i was trying to say is that curvy women, in general, want to loose weight and look like posh or moss…and i was saying why not take Beyonce or any one else as a matter of fact ( Adriana Lima, Heidi Klum) as an example and try to keep their curves, and exercise to tone their body. i think that a toned and curved body looks way better than a skinny body. that’s just my opinion.
I agree Bella.. I think Curvy women are beautiful. .I like that beyonce body is different than MOST in Hollywood.. She stands out.. And Men in general cant seem to get enough of her curves. I would be on cloud nine to have curves like Beyonces.. o h to dream..
bella- i see what your saying but from the other side- i am curvy like Beyonce but shorter and with legs more like Britney, less bum and bigger boobs YET i have had bfs that think that is too big and have seen my ‘curves’ as ‘fat’ and ‘bigger than other girls’ when the wole time i have been a size 2 (sometimes 4)! but the curves gave the illusion of being ‘bigger’. though that was only one bf to be fair. In reality i was smaller than the ‘skinny’ girls he liked?! like as in a smaller size, smaller measurements!
i think its hard to distinguish between curvy and skinny. lkike, you can be skinny and toned and curvy. BUt i guess if people just talk purely shape then you could say someone has a curvy shape (self explanatory) and a skinny shape (less boobs, hips butt and slightly wider waist)…i dunno! its wierd! the grass is always greener =op
She’s so hot! I’d totally go lesbian for her! LOL
I’m on the same page with her in the sense that my ideal female body is someone who is toned, somewhat thin but still curvy. However that’s nearly impossible for many, so i wouldn’t stress about having that kind of body too much. For example i build muscle easily, and i tend to be either quite muscular, or just not toned looking at all. But Beyoncé looks great, and she definitely knows how to make the best out of her body.
I agree. Make the most of what you’ve got. Not everybody has curves. I prefer curves, but no matter what I do, I can’t get wider hip bones. I just dress in a way that flatters my shape and adds thickness to my hips.
She looks good here, finally she’s not trying to be Lady Gaga
She looks good but I have to admit I liked her curvier like 10-15 pounds heavier nevertheless she still looks good!!!
Me too… I love her super womanly body, curvy hips and teeny waist!
I’m not really feeling her body..she’s curvy but without being a bit toned! I think she could looks real good if she would hit the gym for real!
she looks amazing. always. great natural build that she’s hot with a few pounds or when she is athletic. but she is right about the perfect body type for women – curvy but toned. and that is actually probably the hardest thing to do.
being skinny can mean just eating less. but to be toned you MUST work out. not enough women do a little strength training – lets you look muscular, but keep you curves! (in addition to amount of cardio, obviously)
I agree with you. Although I don’t like huge muscles, like Kelly Ripa or Jessica Biel (back in the day), I like skinny-curvy like the VS models, or Jessica Alba. I do resistance training, use weights, HIIT all in order to keep the body-fat low and aim for the lean VS skinny/curvy/toned look. Not all women who strength train are aiming for obvious muscle tone, some (like me) just want to be toned with an overall slim, tight bodied look.
alias- how tall are you and do you build muscle fairly easily? sorry for the question just sometimes i worry that the weighst i lift are tooi heavy and i cant tell if i am gettting smaller or bigger (bad body image!) you know, sometimes you can look at yourself and think ‘hey i look great!’ then half way through the day you look in the mirror and go ‘holy crap i look gross! this is the biggest i have ever been!’ you know?
i dont weight myself because i know at times i have been smaller and skinnier than ever yet weigh more (lots of exercise), and at my lowest weight i was not necessarily the skinniest ever.
Well I am an athlete and I grew up swimming and training for the Olympics since I was about 6 or 7 years old, so naturally I have a good amount of muscle. I also do martial arts and so I have to REALLY watch what I eat or I can bulk up quite fast. Although my family and I are lean people, we still have to watch what we eat to avoid the “skinny-fat” look.
I have found that if you use weights, and I mean HEAVY weights like 20 pounds dumbells, you can burn a lot of fat. For example if I am doing lunges in a circuit, I will use 20 pound dumbells in each arm just to turn up the intensity. You shouldn’t be bulking up if you are using weights correctly, if you are using them with a “body-builder mindset” (for example dumbbells curls/isolated movements) combined with loads of calories, yes you will get bulky and your jeans will tighten up FAST.
You just want to make sure you are not eating TOO much food, but a decent amount. There are calorie calculators all over the web so you can find out how much you should be eating per day. And as for workouts that would help you stay lean? I use bodyrock.tv workouts, and they work like a charm. Also fitnessblackbook.com is an EXCELLENT website, I learned so much stuff about fitness from the guy that runs it, Rusty.
So I hope that helps, bottom line it ALL comes down to calories. You don’t want to eat too much because you will just constantly keep feeding your muscles making them even bigger. Basically when I first started getting really fit, I took my goal weight and multiplied it by 10 and that gives a good amount of calories to be eating until you hit your goal, once you reach your goal you should definitely the calories a bit. Also, if you find that the number of calories is still too much and you are not losing fat, then decrease your calories by 300 and that should help.
Okay wow I have written a lot, if you need any suggestions or help you can always ask for email!! I totally do not mind helping at all!! Good luck girl!!
Basically when I first started getting really fit, I took my goal weight and multiplied it by 10 and that gives a good amount of calories to be eating until you hit your goal, once you reach your goal you should definitely *raise the calories a bit.
Hey sorry I forgot to mention how tall I am, I’m 5’3″ & 106 lbs. I am currently still working towards a goal of my own, it’s tough let me tell ya!!
Thank you SO much for all that info! you are the same height as me and are also around my goal weight. Its good to know that the heavy weights are ok. I really enjoy doing them and i feel so much tighter and like my workout is better but sometimes it’s scary because i remember Gwenyth Paltrows trainer saying that ‘women shouldnt use more than 3-4lbs weights to avoid bulking up.’ That scared me! I cant imagine getting much of a workout with them unless i was using them in some pump class/ aerobics class.
I dont think i am bulking up…some people have mentioned how much weight i have lost…i think its just that i have bad body image and can trick myself sometimes! My clothes are def looser in areas and i dont feel like i am wobbling when walking on the beach in my bikini (lol).
That’s really good info about the cals…i use sparkpeople to track mine but i think i will actually reconsider the amount i am taking in purely because i feel like i could be losing fat a lot faster than i am! I’m not so scared about the caloric intake anymore…my average would be 1400 per day but some days around 1200 and some around 1800 (bad days!). and thats with doing weight training 5-6 days a week and 45-60 mins cardio everyday depending on my weight training.
Thanks again for all the info it was REALLY helpful =oD
what is your body fat percentage if you don’t mind me asking???
L- are you asking me or Alias? My bf % now is 17%…but back in the day when i was 53kgs (117lbs) it was 13%…which i know is quite low…i never understood though why i weighed more than other girls my height!
Alias what is your body fat percentage if you don’t mind me asking. What body fat percentage do you think would give me a rather flat stomach. Im around 20% and do sit-ups quite regulary but my stomach is still very mushy.
Thanks for replying to my comment down below. I was actually asking Alias (should have been more clear) but I appreciate you sharing your private info with me
Yeah so you guys are going to laugh… but I actually have NO idea what my BFP is!! I know right, weird huh lol! I keep meaning to swing by the gym near my house and go in to see if they could measure me, but I just haven’t done it (I don’t have a gym membership, I work out at home). Though I am positive I have a fairly low BFP, when I pinch my skin, for example my stomach, there is hardly and fat to pinch – which is a sign of low bf.
@yeahitsme – Omg what Gwyneth’s trainer said about women using heavy weights and bulking up? Okay first of all, it is really difficult to bulk up like a man, even MEN have a hard time bulking up, it takes lots and lots and lots of calories to get bulky! Though it’s not impossible, if you use weights correctly and strictly for fat loss combined with decent calories – you will not get bulky!
Just think of it this way… if you focus on getting STRONGER, FITTER, and FASTER you will not gain weight/get bulky, it just won’t happen! As long as you focus of getting stronger you will increase your metabolism naturally and turn into a calorie burning furnace! Seriously though, I recommend heading over to bodyrock.tv and using her workouts, they work really well! As in, they burn mega fat, develop lean muscles AND for up to 6 hours after your workout is over, your metabolism is on fire!
Another thing about cardio… it sounds like you are doing a lot of cardio even excessive! When ever I do cardio, it’s not ‘traditional slow boring cardio’ first of all. It’s HIGH intensity designed to burn fat, period. And I never go past 20 minutes for Intense Cardio, you want to get in, WORK IT OUT, and then get out and go stretch. If you can go for longer than 20-30 minutes of “cardio”, my friend you are not working hard enough! For example, tonight I will be doing jump roping intense cardio because I am not in the mood for HIIT, here is the link to the workout I will be doing ==>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4IbIMkXrhc
It’s tough! But it works let me tell ya! Also, some tips that really help sticking through a tough-ass workout. Put on music that makes you feel good, anything that makes you feel ALIVE! If you want to feel hot and sexy put on Britney’s Slave 4 U lol. I personally listen to Foo Fighters, I put it on, turn it up and it motivates me to power through even when I feel like giving up!
Okay again I have written a lot, but now I really want to get my body-fat measured because I am curious. My goal is to have a low body fat (even though I don’t know what mine is) but I can tell if it’s low or not simply by pinching my skin in various places. Normally I don’t weigh myself either, I find that a good pair of jeans will determine if you are on track or not with your goals. Good luck ladies hope I was helpful!!
@L – another thing about your tummy getting flatter… DO NOT DO CRUNCHES!!!! They are terrible for you spinal cord, your posture and they will not get you a tight flat tummy! For a good stomach it all comes down to eating clean and not eating TOO much food. Also, high intensity workouts are definitely recommended. Here is a good post about getting a tight tummy ==> http://fitnessblackbook.com/six-pack-abs/six-pack-abs-without-turning-into-a-hunchback/
This website is amazing, the guy is VERY knowledgeable but he gives away so much information for FREE! Oh and also ignore the photo he used for the post, (the girls stomach is terrible IMO). But the plank workout he gives is VERY effective for a flat tummy. Also I am not one for a 6-pack, I just like a toned, tight tummy, like the VS models. I think this workout will do wonders for your abs, it’s TOUGH!!
Sorry here is the link I mean to post with the “Plank Workout” ==> http://fitnessblackbook.com/six-pack-abs/7-minute-abs-8-minute-abs-what-about-6-minute-abs/
Although the first link is good to know about crunches, they are bad bad bad, and a waste of time!
@ alias: thanks for sharing all this info with us!!! may I kindly ask for some more? I just wrote my thesis and will have my last exam in a few days. As a consequence I spent far too much time on my desk and didn’t work out at all (i did the ocassional hike, a jog now and then but that was about it…) So… I haven’t done any sports on a regular basis for like have a year. I would like to get back on track now, but don’t really know, how much I should do in the beginning. before i hit my final year at uni i used to jog about 5 miles twice a week, swim once a week and rock-climb about twice a month. Your help would be very much appreciated!!!
# half a year
Hey Molly I would LOVE to help you out! Now I should probably mention (though it’s probably obvious already but whatevs), I am NOT a personal trainer, though I used to be very interested in the field. Everything I know I learned on my own (mostly from fitnessblackbook.com) and various books, ect. I do think I know a great deal on how to get the body type that I find attractive – the VS models of the world, the Jessica Alba’s so on and so forth… But anyway, here is my email so you can email me privately any questions you have ==> [email protected]
Hmm since you haven’t really done any sports for quite a while, I would definitely take it easy in the beginning, ease your way into things. I am thinking of some workouts right now that would be perfect for you to get things started, you need to learn how to mode your body, for real. Things like squats, lunges, jumping, push ups, pull ups… All these movements that seem basic, but when put together strategically in a circuit – they are quite challenging and require strength.
Basically you should start off with bodyweight excercises, which are KEY to getting a hot bod. Probably 3 good 20 minute workouts a week are all you need to get things started, seriously after one week of eating good and working out smart, you will definitely notice a change with your body, you will FEEL tighter, trust me. I am SO excited for you!! It is so rewarding to work your buns off and reaping the benefits!!
Here is a link to FREE workouts for absolute beginners:
http://www.bodyrock.tv/category/archives/workout-routine-for-absolute-beginners/
If you can, try to do 1 of the 6 every day, starting with 1 obviously. If you can do that for 4 weeks while eating good, this is a perfect start! Also, I should ask, what kind of body are you aiming for? Who is your “fitness inspiration”?
Alias- thanks again for all that info =o) my trainer gave me interval training and told me i should do it for only 20 mins a day and then have one hour just cardio day. But i do feel the intensity isnt enough. I talked to another trainer and they said the idea of HIIT is better and to do like 8 minutes flat out sprint as fast as you can and then 12 seconds ‘rest’ jog. then again. I have done that a few times but i guess it fels wierd because its such a short time of cardio (compared to what im used to doing) but really what i usually do doesnt work so i may as well stick it out with the HIIT and give it a good try!
thanks again =o) i will do one of those workouts tonight from bodyrock because i dont have time to go to the gym before or after work today!
its bad when celebs say stuff like that about weights! i have always lifted ‘heavyish’ weights, since i was 15. At 22 i changed to free weights and lifted the weighst a lot more. and i LOVE it. However, when celebs say this stuff it makes it hard to get girls to start (we already know how hard it is to get girls to lift!).
she is fat good job she has airbrushing and photoshop.beyonce is still ugly.
Yey right.
Jealous much?
No airbrushing here.

http://www.tvoneblogs.com/thespin/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/beyonce_photobucket.jpg
God have you seen her legs in these pictures? I’m not jealous at all!
That is what you call curves.
Maybe you like the Victoria Beckham look.
Nothing wrong with that. I like to see women with curves.
We all look up to different body types.
Not at all i’m really feeling doutzen kroes body..but i find Beyonce body very disproportioned
Beyonce’s body is not disproportionate it’s just shaped differently.
Sorry lp23 I meant to reply to Bianca’s comment
Sit-up? Do people really still do sit-ups?
And I don’t quite get her point.
Dr. Truth wow I am surprised someone pointed that out! Sit ups are TERRIBLE for your spinal cord/posture… Oh man… they are lame too! Planks or HIIT or Jumping Rope is a wayyyyy better alternative for a tight tummy, I’m sure you already know this after going to Zuzana’s website
Hey Alias!
I’m glad you agree! I haven’t done situps since gym class, circa 1987…I’m a fan of the bosu ball myself for tons of core exercises
Wow that long! I wish someone would have told me about how bad sit ups were, they used to make us do them in gym class when I was in high school *ggrrrrr* But it’s still surprising to hear a celeb talk about something as lame as sit ups, Beyonce is “in the know” and has all the best trainers at her finger tips, how could she possibly not know that sit ups are terrible. Weiiirrddd.
Ha…well, maybe I’m off a bit but that’s the last gym class I remember. I know I had gym in high school but I don’t remember sit ups. Maybe it was more like 1992
(I graduated in 94)
There are certain sit-ups that are good for both tummy and back. I should know since my back is screwed and i’ve done medical gymnastics – sorry, not sure what the english term is – and the main purpose of that is to strenghten both back and tummy muscles for them to be able to hold your spinal chord up straighter. However, i will not argue further, don’t bother to tell me how wrong i am, i really don’t care. For me, sports are a passion, a hobby and not omg i gained 0.5 kg i will got sweat and lift all the weights in the world.
Isnt Bey a “hourglas” i mean does every hourglas shape have medium/large breasts,, i think we are getting the wrong info?
me myself belive im a hourglas (cant say my “inches” cus i only know how to use “cm”…)…….and i dont have big breats??
someone explain?
Yes, the typical hourglasses have large breasts. Basically, the waist-hips / bust ratio needs to be at least 0.7.
So, if your waist is 70 cm, then your bust should be at least 100 cm to have the classic hourglassy shape (same goes for hips).
If not, then you might be a vase or a ruler (both proportionate shapes, just not as curvy).
Versus, If your measurements are 84-64-90cm (32.5-25-35 inches) what body type would it make you?
sorry for the random question, I am just confused about my body type
It’s very hard to tell from measurements alone – I need a picture
to be accurate!
Your proportions, weight distribution, length of torso, waist definition and body frame are all indicators of one’s body shape, not just the measurements.
My first guess would be a thin pear or a skittle (skittles have a smaller upper half like pears, but not very wide hips, they have stronger thighs and a round bum).
thanks versus
It sounds like I could be a skittle.
I am 5ft 6- my legs are slightly longer than my torso.
My thighs are where weight goes if I gain any.
My frame is also really small.
Not every woman is a dead on hourglass/pear/apple/ruler.
They are the 4 basics but they have many subcategories.
Yes, hourglasses to have medium to large breasts and are proportionate top and bottom. Beyonce’s bod lies in between hourglass and pear. She has the shoulders that match her hips but her breasts are slightly smaller than medium and she’s slightly fuller in the thighs.
If you’re not 100% sure then you may be a mixture as well. Miranda Kerr is somewhere between hourglass and pear, Doutzen Krouz is a combo as well. Many women are actually.
i dont prefer her body..when she gains she is an extreme pear, it all goes to her thighs and looks very disproportionate …i prefer other pear bodies like rihanna and annalynne
I don’t think she looks very feminine. Just big. Not fat, but large. Not a body that I’d strive for. I prefer softer curves.
I love Beyonce’s body especially now since she’s been working out pretty hard. But she’s one of those women who probably gain weight easily so she really needs to be careful.
beyonce has the best body … wish I had it.
Beyonce is beautiful – BUT – I do believe being petite and skinny does not make you any less womanly. A lot of men love petite woman too!
i believe that people think that heavy people like beyonce is curvy but is something different beyonce is not curvy is more like fatty
*gasp* do u really think that? but she’s an hourglass so that makes her curvy right? I dunno what to beliveve XD
