Marilyn Monroe Has the “Best Beach Body of All Time”, Says New Poll
February 20, 2012 in Beauty & Body Image by Versus

Fashion store Debenhams conducted a survey on the topic “Who’s got the best bikini body of all time?’ and the winner was crowned Marilyn Monroe, followed closely by Christina Hendricks and Ursula Andress. It seems that this top doesn’t include too many skinny, model-type beauties – let’s see more details from Daily Mail:
Debenhams, which commissioned the survey, now predicts a trend towards the fuller figure and last season it reported a 58 per cent increase in sales of bust-boosting bikinis.
Sasha Nagalingham, a spokesperson for the store said: ‘With the average cup size of the list going from a C to a D in just one year, they are proof that a voluptuous figure is even more desirable that ever before. And women want to imitate the look; sales of gel-filled bust-boosting bikini tops increased by 58 per cent last season and we have extended the range ready for the spring 2012 swell.
‘Our results tell us that looking great on the beach is not about being the thinnest or the youngest woman around. Women are increasingly appreciative of figures that symbolise all the great things about womanhood.’
Jenny Caven, director of Slimming World which commissioned the survey, said: ‘We think it sets a good precedent for women. We shouldn’t all struggle to be really skinny. This is a good example for young women to see that real women have real curves.’
The Results:
1. Marilyn Monroe
2. Christina Hendricks
3. Ursula Andress
4. Kim Kardashian
5. Tulisa Contostavlos
6. Raquel Welch
7. Helen Mirren
8. Scarlett Johansson
9. Amy Childs
10. Lucy Mecklenburgh
11. Kelly Brook
12. Beyonce Knowles
13. Tyra Banks
14. Brook Shields
15. Elle Macpherson
16. Kim Cattrall
17. Rihanna
18. Sharon Stone
19. Jennifer Aniston
20. Goldie Hawn
Number 2 and 3 beach babes:

What do you guys think of this top?

‘This is a good example for young women to see that real women have real curves.’
Oh boy…*takes seat and waits for the backlash*
I thought exactly the same
When do the girls on this site realise that this expression isn’t meant literally.
I think that the backlash is warranted though Hazal. You’re so right it isn’t literal and if it was coming out of the mouth of another commenter on this site, I would just let it slide. But Jenny Craven is a grown woman in a notable position so she shouldn’t be saying this sh*t. It is demeaning I think to women who don’t have curves, maybe I’ve heard it one too many times over here in the UK media and I just feel like my head is gonna explode lol!
I actually agree with you. I find that expression annoying as well. But on the other hand, girls who are constantly screaming “Every human being who has a vagina is a woman” are not better because it’s alwaaaays the same arguments & discussion. BTW: there are also always girls who are not pleased with “everyone who has a vagina is a woman” because they add people who are born with the body of a man but feel like a woman
If the comment isn’t supposed to be meant literally then whats the comment supposed to mean then? I have always liked the old saying, “Say what you mean and mean what you say.’
ah but really she means it in the sense of weight. Softness, fullness, cuddliness (
) which in a way is actually how it was originally meant. The whole skinny v curvy debate arose because the accepted ‘aesthetic ideal’ had become very thin and people were concerned it was having a detrimental effect on girls self esteem.
but to be honest, I’m not even going to attempt to defend this. I’m sick of the whole affair and how completely twisted the message has become.
First of all it was blown way out of proportion. The reason this list has so few skinny model types on it, is because a huge proportion of british women wouldn’t know the name of a model these days. i still don’t know half the girls posted on this site and i still know way more than most of my friends.
second, its still about enforcing an ideal on the populace. the notion of a ‘best body’ or even a list of such, perpetuates the idea that women should be judged on their looks and should be in competition with one another.
third, we all know its pc nonsense. Most women given the option of waking up tomorrow ten years younger and two sizes smaller are going to jump at it. Most know it isn’t going to happen, so they find other ways to make themselves feel better. the whole embrace your curves, this is a real woman, mantra is the agreed solution. Nothing wrong with that. When I’m old and more than likely fat, i hope like hell I’ve developed the same level of delusion that i can imagine my size 16 lumps and bumps are just like ‘marilyn’.
Agree 100%.
Agree amazon!
I agree. Just because it wasn’t meant literally doesn’t mean we should let it slide. It’s the same thing with racism. Just because someone uses an offensive term in a joking way and doesn’t consider themselves at all racist doesn’t mean it should slide. If one is constantly letting things slide, one should also be aware that it could become generally accepted because it’s seen as “OK.” Just because the original intent wasn’t harmful doesn’t mean it is OK, because it does set an example.
Mel, I meant I would ‘let it slide’ because I’m quite sure that a lot of people who say it here are just trolling and want a reaction. It will never ever be seen as ok though in my eyes especially when it comes out of the mouth of someone in a notbale position like Ms. Caven.
Yeah I agree!
Hazel, it’s not about being literal that people have a backlash statement. I don’t think any woman feels unreal or fake just by reading it.
It’s the insulting undertone to the statement and the general acceptance to such statements that makes people have a backlash.
it’s also the fact that those statements are meant to evoke body acceptance, but are actually just trying to replace one mainstream body preference with another. This ingenuity typically leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths.
“it’s also the fact that those statements are meant to evoke body acceptance, but are actually just trying to replace one mainstream body preference with another. This ingenuity typically leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths.”
Agreed 1000% Casey! This whole ‘real woman’ nonsense is counter-productive to the whole body acceptance movmement. Why people can’t let women be how they want to be is beyond me. It reminds me of the UK Equalities minister Lynne Featherstone who said last year that all women should aspire to have a body like Christina Hendricks. Really? In order for me to have a body like Hendricks I would have to gain weight (but not being super curvy it would probably go to my stomach and back), remove a couple of ribs, grow a few more inches, get a boob job and hey presto! I’m finally a ‘real woman’!!!
The term real women have curves isn’t a good one because there are plenty of women out there with flat chests and no butt or hips. What are they supposed think? I’m not womanly because I have no curves. It’s a stupid phrase because heavier women are looking for acceptance whereas we should just make women with no figure feel bad. My sister has no butt or boobs, I don’t want her feeling bad. How many times did I hear the joke, “Whats the difference between girls and rocks? The flat ones get skipped!!” If people want to go beat the drums for acceptance. It should be acceptance for all.
I agree! I’m thin, but pretty curvy, but many girls at my High School aren’t at all. The majority of women are rectangular shaped, so I always thing the “real women” thing is silly because of that. They are putting down the majority of women’s bodies. Not many girls can gain the pounds in all the right places.
Agreed!
“Real” women? Oh, I am sorry I was born skinny with barely no curves and breasts, does this make me less real? Who gave you (writer of this articles) the authority to say whats real and whats not? I think we have reached the point to where young girls don’t feel the need to diet because of what they see in magazines, but the need for plastic surgery because we all don’t have hips, butts, breasts and curves we “should” have to make us “ideal” and “real”.
Stop using the word real women, there is no definition of a “real woman” we are all real, we were all born into this world, that is real enough for me, my body does not make me more or less a real women. Stop using adjectives to describe us. And just use the word “women”
Because thats what we are.
Even though i do prefer curves on a woman, I agree that we should not say that real women have curves.
if we say that real women have curves, then you can justify all sorts of things.
eg
-real women have light skin
-real women have soft round oval faces that are in proportion
-real women have pouty and pink/red full lips
just because cuvry is considered an ideal it does not make skinny women any less real.
It is funny how some people will take offence to any of those comments yet they don’t see anything wrong in saying that real women should be curvy.
Both statements end up discriminating.
Let me just say that I’ve got no curves and never had any issues with men wanting me. As a matter of fact when my friends and I went out, I usually was asked for the number vs my “curvier” friends. I think it’s more of the whole package and how one carries herself. Just my two cents
Agree so much. The skinny girls around here seem to have a lot more confidence for some reason and it certainly helps. Plus a lot of them are super fit and that’s always attractive! (To me and the general population in my area, that is).
lol! i literally said “oh boy” when i read the title. gonna be some backlash happening in here.
Raquel Welch is really the most notable body… everyone else is more or less so so
Personally don’t agree with the list.. Besides marilyn. But I guess everyone has their own judgement on what a great beach body is.
I’m wondering who took this survey? I imagine that if it was for like, Maxim magazine with all men at the poll, there’d be SI models filling up that list. Maybe men and women jumped in the poll? That information will change how I interpret these results!
Exactly Katheryn, this poll is by a woman voted by women. And the very fact that the daily mail is mentioned just makes me laugh, because that is the worst site in the world for comments about “real women” there are so many comments at that site from woman who pull that line.
That was my exact reaction!!! “Well, you can tell THIS survey was completed by women!”.
Not to say that women’s viewpoints on bodyshape are not valid – they are. But I think it might be more a question of which bodies women most identify with or WISH were seen as beautiful, rather than who looks sexiest. Otherwise, I am sure there would a lot more SI and VS models on the list hahah.
I agree with you completely, megs362!
“But I think it might be more a question of which bodies women most identify with or WISH were seen as beautiful, rather than who looks sexiest” – I totally agree
AGREE!!!!
also if it was completed by men jessica alba and megan fox would have made the list!
True, but we have seen surveys completed by men on this site and we have said EXACTLY the same thing. The top sexist women list (by Askmen I think) was also deemed to be rubbish because Jennifer Aniston came out on top. I think whenever we don’t see the women that we favourite on here we question the validity of a list. If this list had had Candice Swanepoel in the top spot followed by a series of other VS models, or other celebrities with the Bar Rafaeli body type, no-one would’ve cared if it had been decided by women or featured in the Daily Mail.
I agree. Perhaps its us, the women, who want the VS and SI models on the list. I always think the men think less than we do. They see someone and think, hey sexy. The women think: is she slim, skinny, toned, long legs, hip waist ratio, boobs, butt etc etc?
I have actually heared a lot of men saying they think Jennifer Aniston is so sexy. I think it has to do with her body, but especially also her attitude that makes her sexy.
I think all of these hot- lists are manipulated in a certain extend, perhaps even totally made up by the magazines themselves.
Surprised by the result, then I read the article and…well, it could have been better phrased without the “real women = real curves”. But it’s an interesing choice. Marilyn Monroe had a very cute – not perfect, but very attractive – body, and her at 1st place could means that confidence and a natural (not overworked) body has much more appeal than what fashion and others have tried to convince us for decades.
This list looks to be made up! I mean, it could be real, but I don’t think they asked anyone this question.
“…proof that a voluptuous figure is even more desirable that ever before.” This quote doesn’t seem to be true either. I can’t really put it into words as to what I want to say about this.. but I hope it makes sense.
Because the word “voluptuous” has been used in thousand of (always wrong) ways? People think as voluptuous, curvaceous as something bigger than average, when it’s about body structure. Almost all the women of the past that we consider “curvy” were actually on the slim side, they just were built in a different way than what we now consider “thin”.
Oh on a separate note, I just love how society can dictate so rigidly what a woman should or shouldn’t look like, which parts of our anatomies are “in” or not (now is the era of the booty apparently), how we should dress, act, talk and generally behave. Where the f*ck do the MEN figure in all this? A woman will be attacked for her appearance (anyone remember Jim Sensenbrenner basically saying Michelle Obama doesn’t know sh*t about fitness because her bum is ‘too big’ when he’s FAR from being the picture of perfection himself) even if it has little to do with her career or expertise. They’re allowed to be fat, wrinkly, balding and hardly anyone bats an eyelid like women should be so f*cking grateful! I know what I want in a REAL man and it ain’t anyone of those things that’s for sure! *End of rant*
I LOVE this rant! The crap said about Michelle Obama was absolutely unbelievable — so freaking sexist and carrying really disturbing racist undertones as well.
One of my favourite offensive examples of men thinking they get to determine what women should look like is this article:
http://www.slate.com/articles/life/doonan/2012/01/small_breasts_could_they_make_a_comeback_.html
in which Simon Doonan (a gay man) basically announces that breasts are fashion accessories that can be switched around like handbags. SO repulsive!
That was an interesting read Sam! Simon Doonan needs to take a seat and shut up. We’ll do what we like with our boobies and rock them big, small or inbetween!
Yes! I hate it how many male politicians/famous people are ugly, bald, fat,… but get accepted and praised because they’re smart or funny. Yet when a female politician/famous person is not sexy, feminine, beautiful,.. she gets so much crap even though she might be funny/smart too. Fcking double standard.
It’s so true Sienna! I was literally at the end of my tether when I wrote that ‘rant’. You’re so right, double standards piss me off too, women can’t just ‘be’ but men can with no problem. When a man talks, people listen and then look. When a woman talks, people look (body-shame, criticise and sexualise) and then listen or most of the time they don’t bother at all.
True, I also hate that old and ugly men are allowed to be with young beautiful women, but the other way round: older women can´t be with younger good looking men. Its very unaccepted in society. But why. I just hate it.
I agree with some of the list, however I definitely wouldn’t of picked Christina to be 2nd, or even on the list at all tbh. I wasn’t wowed by the recent pics of Scarlett either if I’m honest. Also as for Amy childs being number 9th that’s a joke! She’s like a barbie doll she’s that fake!
I just love her, I wish she was my big sister haha.
Not saying that I would of picked her to be first or that shes my favourite beach body but Jennifer Aniston is my favourite
I kinda like this list, actually. It actually seems like long limbs were favored over hourglass figures here (I’m not saying the women picked here aren’t curvaceous, just not hourglass-y).
Kim Kardashian…Really? Christina Hendricks…Really? The whole order of this list…Really? -___-
Amy Childs?! That blow up lookalike? Oh come on now!
*doll
I know, beyond horrible. But what could you expect from the survey conducted by the English department store? As I have been living in London for almost 2 years, I notice that there so many all sorts of campaigns, tv shows like how to look good naked, and commercials to justify the obesity.Let’s faceit, if you move from central London(don’t let me start of small english town) where you see a lot of fit and stylish people, the majority of women are fat, wearing clothes which looks horible on their bodies and in generally not very well put together. I don’t want to offend any English girls on this site, but I feel that my eyes are constantly on fire seeing overweight girls and women with transparent leggings and 2 sizes too small mini dresses in my face.
I disagree. I’ve recently spent almost half a year in the UK and travelled a lot through the country. Most young girls I saw during my journey were slim. But you are right with the transparent leggings part. What a terrible trend over there.
Oy vey! Transparent leggings with no long tunic top or dress is my number one fashion peeve. I see it too much over here in London *shudders* Sorry but I really don’t want to see your arse or your coochie when I’m walking behind you on the street.
Have you been studying there? Because at universities quite a lot of girls are ok. I lived in a few countries and in general travelled a lot I have never seen so many overweight people in my entire live.
Yes, I was studying in the UK. But I’m not only referring to the girls at my uni but also to random girls I saw on the street. Yes, some were overweight but I wouldn’t say that they were the majority. I guess that most overweight people are more in the “lower class” areas. At least this is the case in Germany where I actually live.
Lol, I liked ´how to look good naked´ because of the presenter, Gok. He is so funny. There are certain parts of the show I like: the right clothes can make you look and feel better and no plastic surgery is involved. But I dislike other things, exercise and diet are not very much talked about although its a fundamental part in feeling, looking good AND feeling good. Then Gok always says he adores those big boobes, and heavenly bodies, and then I think: not so heavenly. I know he want to feels the women feel better about their bodies, but justifying it or idealizing obeised bodies, calling them ´real feminene bodies´ and ´curvy bodies´, are denying and concealing the problem. Btw I am not from Britain, but I live in Holland and watched the show quite often.
I don’t think I know of anybody that would prefer christina Hendricks body over rihanna or kelly brook’s. It just doesn’t make sense.. how could she possibly be #2 out of all celebrities?! Not that she has a bad body. Shes gorgeous. But #2? !?
Yeah and on top of it it’s a beach body thing, I haven’t even seen her in a two piece yet!
I expected Sofia Vergara to be on the list!
I think only overweight women voted in this poll. I can agree with some, like Scarlett, Beyonce, Helen Mirren and Jen Aniston. But the order of them is a joke….Christina Hendricks at No 2? Just no.
Why does eveyone think that the takers of this poll must’ve been overweight and definitely women? Most of the women on here have bodies that are popular in the media and that men have shown an interest. Also, most of the women on this list are neither fat or skinny; they’re inbetween.
Perhaps

Because I think if it was taken by men there would be more variety. Not saying that some of the same women wouldn’t appear, but I think there would be more on the slim end of the spectrum just because men have so many different tastes. It’s a little suspicious …
Men prefer healthy curves. Only women are obsessed with bones. These women aren’t fat – they are hot. I would smash Marilyn back in the day without hesitation.
Oh please. Men can like thin women. What an ignorant statement.
Kim Kardashian number 4 ? This is the most inaccurate poll I have ever seen she should be nowhere near the top 10. She looks sloppy on the beach and if she doesn’t thats photoshop for you.

Um, never heard of this chain. Obesity and obesity acceptance is a nasty problem. Just because I’m a fat*ss, doesn’t mean I need chunky inspiration to tell me I’m fine the way am and should accept bein g a legitimate diabetes risk. Christina (above) looks like an old mom, and not a MILF. This list is a riot and I make no apologies for my opinion.
agree…this list is a joke. hendricks number 2 of all time?!?!? why dont they put rosie odonell on there too
I totally agree. Christina Hendriks?? Are you kidding??
Did they only poll 65+? Seriously…I would love to see the polled demographic for this,uh, “study”
Uh its annoying how they just pulled Marilyn Munroe s the best beach body because shes a “legend. If that was a pic of any other celebrity with their stomach hanging out this whole board will be littered with “ews” and “how could she not care”? Don’t agree with me? See the comments from Kim K’s page of her in her bikini.
Those girls are beautiful but cmon…this list is not representative of what society sees as “healthy” or “desirable” today
there is a huge diff between kim k and marilyn.
marilyn does have a little bit of stomach hanging but it is only a small amount, her flabs seem taut and held back
kim has fat rolls and her stomach is much bigger and a lot more hangs out
plus marilyn has slender legs, which kim doesn’t
Real Women By Hanne Blank
Originally published in Filling a Much-Needed Void, http://www.hanneblank.com/blog/2011/06/23/real-women/
Real women do not have curves. Real women do not look like just one thing.
Real women have curves, and not. They are tall, and not. They are brown-skinned, and olive-skinned, and not. They have small breasts, and big ones, and no breasts whatsoever.
Real women start their lives as baby girls. And as baby boys. And as babies of indeterminate biological sex whose bodies terrify their doctors and families into making all kinds of very sudden decisions.
Real women have big hands and small hands and long elegant fingers and short stubby fingers and manicures and broken nails with dirt under them.
Real women have armpit hair and leg hair and pubic hair and facial hair and chest hair and sexy moustaches and full, luxuriant beards. Real women have none of these things,
spontaneously or as the result of intentional change. Real women are bald as eggs, by chance and by choice and by chemo. Real women have hair so long they can sit on it. Real women wear wigs and weaves and extensions and kufi and do- rags and hairnets and hijab and headscarves and hats and yarmulkes and textured rubber swim caps with the plastic flowers on the sides.
Real women wear high heels and skirts. Or not.
Real women are feminine and smell good and they are masculine and smell good and they are androgynous and smell good, except when they don’t smell so good, but that can be changed if desired because real women change stuff when they want to.
Real women have ovaries. Unless they don’t, and sometimes they don’t because they were born that way and
sometimes they don’t because they had to have their ovaries removed. Real women have uteruses, unless they don’t, see above. Real women have vaginas and clitorises and XX sex chromosomes and high estrogen levels, they ovulate and menstruate and can get pregnant and have babies. Except sometimes not, for a rather spectacular array of reasons both spontaneous and induced.
Real women are fat. And thin. And both, and neither, and otherwise. Doesn’t make them any less real.
There is a phrase I wish I could engrave upon the hearts of every single person, everywhere in the world, and it is this sentence which comes from the genius lips of the grand and eloquent Mr. Glenn Marla:
There is no wrong way to have a body.
I’m going to say it again because it’s important: There is no wrong way to have a body.
And if your moral compass points in any way, shape, or form to equality, you need to get this through your thick skull and stop with the “real women are like such-and-so” crap.
You are not the authority on what “real” human beings are, and who qualifies as “real” and on what basis. All human beings are real.
Yes, I know you’re tired of feeling disenfranchised. It is a tiresome and loathsome thing to be and to feel. But the tit-for- tat disenfranchisement of others is not going to solve that problem. Solidarity has to start somewhere and it might as well be with you and me.
This is really awesome thing you posted.
I love this.
I agree with this text (although I feel that this top is a little lacking). Femininity is the diversity.
That is beyond awesome! Thanks for posting it!
LOVE!
Love it!
This is amazing!
I heart this comment! It’s so true, I even got a bit teary reading it for some reason *sniffs*
Love! Amazing.
This is one of the most amazing quotes I’ve ever read.
Yep, I’m with you and everyone above- awesome post. All women are real women. Real women are simply women who exist in reality. From one extreme, to in between, to another extreme; they’re all real.
Umm no. Just no. Some of these women are fat.
Christina Hendricks does not have a good beach body, I’m sorry. Marilyn looks nice, but not the best of all time to me.
That’s a pretty good list overall.
My favorite bodies on that list would belong to:
Jennifer Aniston, Sharon Stone, Raquel Welch, Scarlett Johansson, Kelly Brook, Tyra Banks in her prime, Goldie Hawn in her prime, Brook Shields, Marilyn Monroe, Beyonce and Rihanna. I don’t know the rest of those women on the list or I’m either not a big fan of the rest. It’s a poll though, so everyone will always have a different opinion. Some people might think someone is “too fat or too skinny” while others will love their body. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’m not attracted to people who are too skinny or too big, I think being an average healthy size is the best. You can’t take polls too serisouly, just like how you can’t take Maxim and FHM lists of “sexiest” people seriously. It’s all just a bit of fun.
I think some people need to realise that there is a difference between curves and fat. These women are all beautiful however there are some I definately wouldn’t put on the “best beach bodies of all time” list.
wow.. that is a great pic of Marilyn, brunette shots of her are better for sure.
I have a feeling that the poll was skewed. I think that the majority of the people they asked were either fat er curvy, or they did not give them choices of the prettier thinner women.
LMAO is this a joke. When has Christina Hendricks been seen in a bikini? Only time was once before she piled on the weight about 12 years ago and even that wasn’t impressive.
CH has a flabby “real womans” body which is why she has so many female defenders because they relate to her. Marylin Monroe was a lot slimmer than people make out as well, much slimmer than Hendricks. No doubt the usual suspects will be singing her(CH) praises as usual though.
She has a lot of die hard fans on this site.
I definitely wouldn’t have put CH on this list, and she isn’t #2 by a long shot. Lol she really never has been seen in a bikini. This list is for sure biased. They probably had all these names picked and had the women put it in order or something. Elle Mcpherson sure has an amazing body and is gorgeous. She doesn’t look a day over 25.
CH also has a lot of die hard ‘haters’ on this site – it’s always seemed relatively even to me!
There is like 3 people who show a dislike for her, she has more lovers than haters.
I think you are selectively reading because in the ‘Christina Hendricks does Cosmo’ post there are a lot more than 3 regular posters who dislike her. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, and there is also nothing wrong with liking her! I like her, but I don’t rate her as a great ‘bikini’ body and I don’t call myself a die hard fan either.
You are a die hard fan. Otherwise you jump to defend her as much as you do as if someone has actually insulted you and not her. You are not the only one of course, but you do especially defend her as if she was your sister.
Seriously? Then you read a lot into my comments that I don’t intend! I simply defend her when people are unreasonably cruel – just like I have with plus-size models, etc.
If someone says something you don’t like about a thin woman, you act as if someone has insulted you too – it’s just natural to feel that way when you like/have a certain body yourself! It’s hard not to take it personally when someone that has a similar shape/size to you is harshly criticised. I don’t think that’s unreasonable.
And I am not a die hard fan – I think that is up to me to decide.
Mrs S, you are so biased that its not even funny. Erica is probably the most balanced commenter on this site. She is ALWAYS nice, respectful, and she tries to see the beauty in everyone regardless of whether the person’s shape is her “ideal” or not. Besides, what she said is true. There are far more people on this site who dislike Christina than like her. I just looked back on the last 3 CH posts and can estimate that the negative comments make up about 75% of all comments!
It makes you so mad to see that there are people out there who like fuller figures like Christina’s, so you only noticed the positive comments and ignored the 75% negative comments. You are so insecure and cannot accept that not everyone is a fan of skinny supermodel bodies. You believe that you are the final authority on what makes a woman attractive when you are so biased and BITTER!
And this is coming from someone who only likes skinny supermodel bodies!
this mentality bugs the shit out of me!!! The problem with society isnt the ideal it has about womens bodies its the fact that there is ONE ideal supported either by the media or even by ppl supporting plus size women. Real women have curves, are straight up and down and as far as im concerned every woman qualifies as real unless shes a hologram. The msg to everyone should be accepting your shape (shape has nothing to do with weight) you shouldn’t accept being 100lbs overweight if u hate it and can change it but being pear shaped or only 5″2 is something u just have to deal with and get over if its not your own ideal. Everyone should look to the inspirations they admire for their motivation weather thats Marilyn monroe or a vs model. I hate that peopl say “well in the 50s a women marlyin size was sexy, so much is wrong with the world now that that mentality has changed” its called evolving, we have iphones now dont we, were they around in the 50s?? If you personally prefer marlyins shape then it really shouldnt get you down that society has moved past that (when I say evolved this is just to say changed not that I necessarily think all current views on womens bodies is better than it was in the 50s) I just find it hilarious that we glamourize 1950s persective on womens figures when it really was just as bad as it is now its just the ideal has changed not the pressure to fit the ideal. I am sure there were stick thin women in the 50s crying because they didnt fit the marlyin monroe ideal. Own your body shape and if u need to look to the media to feel ok removed*
A couple women on the list have great bodies, but most of these women are not the best beach bodies of all time.
Agreed Mary, the only ones who are worthy imo are Elle Macpherson, Tyra Banks And Ursula Andress, and Raquel Welch. You can see the picture of Ursula next to Christina and just how Ursula is a goddess while Christina looks like an average house wife in comparison.
Ursula with more weight on would resemble Christina: topheavy with a flat back and no ass.
a “feel good about yourself” list lol… don’t get me wrong, i think a lot of the women on the list have beautiful bodies and are drop dead gorgeous but it seems like they’ve chosen a “type” with this list and elimnated anyone who may be thin or not curvy. there are beautiful thin women as well..
haha indeed. A+ comment
Christina Hendricks looks fat and sloppy to me. Also…it irks me when people say that Marilyn was a size 16. She’s more like a modern day size 6. She has a nice body which isn’t quite my cup of tea. I would put Lucy Mecklenburg, Blake Lively, and Doutzen Kroes closer to the top.
I absolutely adore Marilyn and the whole “but Marilyn Monroe wore a size 16″ bs annoys the hell out of me. Sure, she may have worn a size 16 in her day but what these people don’t realize is that a vintage size 16 is actually more like a modern size 6 or 8.
Marilyn looks absolutely darling. She somehow could be adorable/sexy at the same time. “Good bodies” are a dime a dozen now in entertainment, so for me personally, sexiness comes from the way the person carries themselves. Marilyn was sexy not only for the obvious reasons, but how she presented herself. I actually really like this list, minus Kim Kardashian. She’s desperation personified.
“With the average cup size of the list going from a C to a D in just one year, they are proof that a voluptuous figure is even more desirable that ever before. ”
Huh? Women are getting fatter and along with this fattening up, boobs are getting bigger. Bigger boobs and a fatter body don’t equate to a “voluptous figure”. Just a fatter body overall with bigger boobs.
If anything the a shapely butt has one of the focus, one with a small waist attached.
exactly, a small waist and a bubble butt are way more popular than big boobs. cause some men like small more
And I do not know why in the world Christina Hendricks is on this list. In bikini pics that I have seen of her she just looks like a big girl with giant fake looking boobs.
Yes, yes, yes (almost
). I do not agree with all the places, but I think that this list of “well presented”. First place is the best: Marilyn Monroe, and the list is a healthy looking, a different structure than the MM, Jennifer Aniston, while Rihanna has yet another body, and yet another Christina Hendricks.
A teenager present at the truth (more or less) are inspired in most of the thin or even emaciated models – I can see it at my sisters, their friends, etc. In my case, for just any patterning on models came when I was in high school, and all girls wanted to be like the thinnest. A promotion of the different silhouettes and slender or a little fuller body is necessary.
Yeah Jennifer Aniston is slimmer, but they still don’t have any modelesque types! If they stuck Irina or Candice on the list maybe I would listen more to their preach about acceptance.
But why should have the modelesque types? Actresses / celebrities are more famous. Among the well-known models is a small selection;). This list is already diversity, lacking perhaps only a sportswoman and naturally the slight girls – perhaps such as Kristen Stewart or Claire Danes.
Why shouldn’t they have modelesque types? Who cares if they’re “not as famous”? First off, many are, and second, most have better bodies than actresses anyway. And as mel said, it would show more acceptance.
“No famous models” I meant is that most people don’t recognize them, so how can vote on them and “like it”. And no, that fame is the most important;)
According to You the model should be, according to me they can, but not necessarily and I am not talking about body type, but – there are not many slender models and rarely naturally skinny, the rest is emaciated or very skinny. Since the list could have a model with underweight is also a person would have to be overweight, for the balance.
lc is such a narrow minded troll
i think its funny how so many women worship the long skinny “modelesque” women. in reality, the only people on earth who find those types of women attractive are WOMEN. MEN are repulsed by that. and in the end, regardless of how much you girls on this site will fight what i say, physical attractiveness is about attracting the opposite sex. so what is it with women and their obsession with “modelesque”? the people who choose those “modelesque” women for modeling are either A. gay male designers or B.female designers. and all you poor girls have been brainwashed to think its hott. lol. and i am in no way against naturally skinny girls. i myself am naturally skinny and i am a size 0-2. i guess i am a “skinny hour-glass” but i prefer looking curvy over skinny any day and i try very hard to accentuate my curves. i think Halle Berry has one of the most perfect bodies i’ve ever seen when she was in her prime. slim, curvy, toned all over—-total perfection. scar-jo and sophia vergara are good; but wouldnt mind them with a bit more tone.also, kim K when she was a bit slimmer.
“i think its funny how so many women worship the long skinny “modelesque” women. in reality, the only people on earth who find those types of women attractive are WOMEN. MEN are repulsed by tha”
That is exactly the kind of line the “fat woman brigade” from the daily mail spout out all the time. And it’s just insecurity on their part. You aren’t going to find many men who are repulsed by vs models. In reality you have it the wrong way around. What you said is what women try and convince themselves to make themselves feel better. Harsh maybe, but so true.
@laura.croft
a lot of attractive straight male models date female models, and although many don’t date models, and date “normal” girls, the normal girls they date seem pretty thin to me (ex: river viiperi’s gf). it’s rude to make assumptions about the general population based off of your personal opinions. you’ll be surprised by what preferences people out there have, like bbw porn is one of the most searched, and liking skinny and modelesque bodies really isn’t something that strange in comparison if you ask me.
I’m not narrow minded and I’m not a troll so shut the F*CK up vv. You sound like one.
And @ laura.croft, you comment was insanely ridiculous and narrow minded. I’m not really sure what is “funny” about appreciating thin, model like women. MEN are in no way shape or form repulsed by thin, modelesque women. That is absurd. At least, certainly NOT all of them. And no one is brainwashed by anybody. That’s the stupidest thing I have ever heard. That argument is tired and invalid. People like what they like, and it does not in any way have to be influenced by the “media” or whatever. Please. Grow up.
S, you’re right as usual.
honey, show me ONE man who is attracted to candice swaeonpoel or rosie huntington whitely WITHOUT the victoria secret push up bras, WITHOUT the plastic cup things that make them look like they have boobs when they’re really a negative A cup with long emaciated bodies–even alessandra. they all have gorgeous faces but if we’re talking bodies—men are not into that!take away the padded fake breasts and they all look like long awkward boys. like i said, i AM a skinny girl. im in no way against skinny girls, i enjoy being thin but i also love curves and i know that men love curves and trying to be unhealthily skinny to mimick the “modelesque” girls is a game women are playing for themselves/each other. men dont love long skinny bony girls, and that is what 90% of the “modelesque” women are.
laura, its pointless trying to argue with you, my first comment is under mod so i guess you can’t see it, but clearly, candice’s bf is attracted to her, and i don’t think he’s the most attractive guy, but he obviously counts as a man.
“Honey”?
Hahaha okay…
Anyway, I just went to a website with pictures of Candice Swanepoel NUDE and men were going crazy for the pictures. It doesn’t get any more real and bare and “non VS” than that. Her average chest and all were on full display. The link is NSFW but here is the title: “Candice Swanepoel Nude Is So Freaking Hot it Hurts”
So yeah.
laura.croft,
Your posts and argument are so absolutely, ridiculously asinine and well, dumb on so many different levels, I don’t even know what to say. You are severely narrow minded and quick to judge and make hasty conclusions; as well as SWEEPING generalizations. It is unbelievable that you could be so narrow minded. I’m not a fan of Christina Hendricks’ figure, but I’m sure there are men who appreciate it. Just as I’m sure there are men who appreciate Candice and Rosie-type bodies. I’m sure both of their boyfriends cry themselves to sleep every night because of what their girlfriends’ bodies look like. Not.
Bottom line: There are many men who find Rosie and Candice attractive; push up bras/whatever or not. Quite clearly, as we’ve just shown you. Just accept it; there’s nothing more to say. You have proved absolutely nothing, other than the fact that you seem to be harboring some sort of resentment towards thin women.
vv – that was uncalled for! I don’t agree with Ic most of the time, but I don’t see any trolling!
And laura.croft – I think you are being simplistic and unfair. Many men find VS models attractive just as many men find Christina Hendricks attractive. There is no one body that is attractive to ALL or repulsive to ALL – it’s never that cut and dry! And I like how you throw in that you’re a skinny size 0-2 but then say that Candice and Rosie are unattractive to men – they are about that size themselves, aren’t they? Or bigger? And they are both curvy in my eyes – do they not count as curvy to you because they have smaller breasts?!
I appreciate your own preference for more fully curvy women (I have the same preference myself) but dissing women who don’t have the right curves in your view is just immature. Men may generally prefer curves, but that doesn’t mean they are repulsed by women who don’t! And I’d be interested to see if you can find a man who is repulsed by Candice or Rosie!
@laura
while my bf thinks candice is a bit skinny for his tastes(mostly her legs), he likes her small boobs (and pear shapes with narrow ribs in general) rather than the photoshoped boobs
This is actually so ridiculous. How is lc a narrowminded troll? I was just saying if they REALLY wanted to trumpet diversity they’d have to actually include a diversity of body shapes. So, yes, tall and thin would be one. Also, if you want to insult yourself, go ahead (that is, if you are actually skinny, because I feel sorry if you have such hatred for your own body type). But please don’t try to attack everyone else based on your own ignorance. If men don’t like that kind of women, then why were there about 200 positive comments on Miranda Kerr’s last topless pics and Milla Jovovich’s nude pics for Purple? Don’t even get me started on Candice and Rosie, an incredible number of guys love those two, push up bras or not. Also, sorry but you can’t judge for my own experience in LA, because it’s pretty much the opposite of what you’re saying. Also, Holly is right. Most male models date within the industry, and those male models are pretty darn hot. Karlie Kloss dated Joe Jonas, Sean O’Pry dated Diana Moldovan, and there are plenty others with skinny gfs who I’m not naming right now. It’s also the same with celebrities, because TSwift is the definition of modelesque and she seems to score plenty of hot guys. Anne V is also skinny with slight/moderate curves and she’s dating Adam Levine. Not to mention all the flat/skinny/stick leg girls at my school who seem to get all the guys. Looks like I just disproved your argument that no man is attracted to that figure …
Also, Barbara Palvin is quite skinny if you see her in real life or on the runway and I think her boyfriend is incredibly hot …
lc, stop trying
You are obviously not a troll, your comments are always nice, I guess your ideal is just different from many people and that’s why they get upset.
My advice, don’t feed trolls. Some people simply come here to troll, and it upsets me sometimes, but I’ve learned to stay away from them now.
@laura.croft
Totally agree. I am repulsed by these gross bone things. So are most of the men I know. I want to see hips and a nice rack. Screw these chicks that look like dudes. If I want some bones I’ll go to the graveyard. I want women that are healthy. Stop obsessing over your weight ladies – men don’t give a shite and prefer healthy curves.
LOL yeah it’s funny how these women who make these comments about what men like all happen to be “skinny” themselves another daily mail classic “real women have curves” comment. You know full well lots of men drool over RHW which is why she has been voted number 1 Sexiest female in male publications. You happen to already know this and that is why you appear to be so angry about it. If Christina Hendricks makes you feel better about yourself than good for you but don’t make up lies to justify your opinion.
I am in moderation again? what about Lara her comments were far worse?
Here are examples of what Lara says are total B S
Rose Huntington Whitley wins Maxim’s Hottest Women On Earth title.

Rosie also wins FHM’s Sexiest Woman In The World Title

These are just two examples of mens magazines who voted Rosie tops and according to YOU men are “repulsed” by her. LOL in your dreams. You sound bitter
i dont think christina hendricks is attractive dumb A*S….i never said that. i think she’s over-weight and flabby. i said i thought Halle Berry in her prime was my ideal body, and even she is a little bigger than i am. lol, believe what you want in your little dream where you think you have it all figured out, but yes, i am a (naturally) skinny girl. i would send you the link to my facebook page right now if you requested it where you could view my modeling port. i just KNOWS that men like curves. why? because at 5’8 and 113 lbs EVERY single guy i have ever been with thought i was too thin. but i am hesitant to gain weight because i model and i am a student and i need the money, but i LOATHE the industry standards and the obsessions of these crazy girls who worship girls who look like this:

no man finds that attractive. and as for the girl who said men drool over candice…..yea, they drool over candice and rosie in their photo-shopped push-up bra glory…….but would they drool over this????? (the real candice):

@laura your thinsecurities are making you sound irrational. This “for curves” movement you’re so blindly defending is just like the stick thin brainwash you loath….. People seem to forget that sex appeal as little to do with preconceived (and visual) ideals… Falling in love or desire happens, and your “He didn’t want me because I wasn’t a D cup” kind of experiences seem to be a very poor proof of anything that could have some interesting or deep meaning. Guess what? Lots of uncurvy women around here got their sweet boyfriends, i’m one of them, and Candice too. I just think it’s sad reading ideal-preacher women comments, feeling that those women are probably much less picky towards men, because they know, somehow, that futile things like weight don’t matter that much. The truth is sex is still happening everywhere, for almost everyone who wants a bit of it.
laura.croft, I pity your problems with body acceptance. 5’8″ 113 is really really thin, but most slim girls I know (I’d say 5’6″ 110 to 115) are generally viewed as very attractive. And I don’t know why, but a lot of guys have this thing for tiny and dainty girls as well, just as some guys like larger girls too. I think it definitely depends on where you live, because in LA I don’t think you would get much heat for being too thin, versus say Indiana.
Also, why should it be surprising that men like Candice without the push up bra? If she went strolling on the beach like that I can guarantee you plenty of eyes would be on her.
i am aware that 5’8 and 113 but it is b/c i have a small frame. i consider myself curvy (skinny-curvy) as i have C-cup breasts and wide hips; i was never able to do runway because of that. i look nothing like the girls i am protesting against, such as candice in her scary-skinny pics and i would never aspire to. these girls, and esp. runway models, look to be about 5”9-5’10 and 105-110 and im sorry but that will never be attractive or natural, that is what i am saying.
you guys keep referring to these topless/nude pics or miranda kerr or candice or whoever getting positive comments. well duh. men will always give positive feedback to topless pics? at the end of the day if someone is taking their clothes off they’ll always get positive feedback from men.
and @ ary–no one is saying that girls without curves cant get boyfriends. curves are not necessarily boobs and a butt. women store fat in different places, so i guess what i mean when i say curves is just a healthy amount of body fat. any woman can have that as long as she eats enough. and clearly a lot of these VS models don’t.
laura, you said men were repulsed by uncurvy women. I hope you don’t think you can get a boyfriend who feels repulsed by your body. Don’t try to come as a moderate commentator now because you weren’t one at the beginning.
Some of comments are so ridiculous (about men being repulsed by slim women with small boobs). Where I live, thin girls are generally thought to be most attractive whether they have boobs or not. And I don’t live in the USA so don’t give me that crap about the media brainwashing us/me. But there is also some curves-likers if under this term is implied big rack and fat ass along with meaty thighs. I personally know few of them.
The Daily Mail is complete BS. At this point it’s even hard to take their articles seriously, this actually made me LOL. Do they seriously think Christina has the best bikini body? Ursula I can understand, but how did not a single swimsuit model end up on this list? Hmmm …. last time I checked, Bar, Irina, Cintia seemed to look pretty darn good in bikinis. Also, all these people need to stop with this whole real women crap. It actually makes them look extremely insecure and makes it hard to respect anything else they say. They promote acceptance in one sentence … yet derail thinner bodies in the next and have only ONE body type on their last. That isn’t acceptance to me, that’s narrowminded, biased, ignorant, and insecure.
“Ursula I can understand, but how did not a single swimsuit model end up on this list? Hmmm”
Because the poll was done by Slimming World. I just googled it and it is a site for womens weight loss. So basically it was women who took part in the poll,
Ya wait a second…where’s Bar?!
Agree one hundred percent, mel.
I agree with you mel. I wouldn’t put Christina on my best beach body list, even though I think she is a beautiful woman. I don’t understand the lack of models – like the ones you mentioned. It seems like a stupid anti-thin list to me. And I agree about the ‘real women’ thing – all it does is promote acceptance of one body type by demeaning another, that’s just so immature and ultimately quite sexist.
The survey was conducted by Debenhams and given that it was a survey I don’t see how it is complete BS. We have to remember that a lot of the models we laud over on here are not so popular in the mainstream society. If the people they surveyed didn’t pick slim women (assuming they were given the option to do so and that they weren’t just presented with a preselected list of women to select from) then what can we do about it? For me the BS comes when they portray this selection as fully representative and add a bit of skinny backlash to boot, not the list in itself.
i agree Nkeon. The list has plenty of gorgeous girls on it, thin and slim, curvy and not so curvy. elle is pretty much as straight up and down as you get. there is only one- CH- fuller, though I still don’t personally think she is fat.
I think this is a fair representation of women who are most prominent in british magazines and on tv- the Towie girls are everywhere in their bikinis- and those who are famous for being sex symbols. There are many beauftiful women, such as natalie Portman or Cate blanchett but they don’t tend to be known for their sex appeal. I also doubt many of the people answering the question put half as much thought in to it as people on here-
questioner: who do you think has a great body?
shopper: em……
questioner: what about Christina hendricks?
shopper: okay, she looked good last night in madmen.
no. 2 explained
Hahaha! I can imagine that too! Debenhams is one of those traditional British stores so the shoppers there are only really going to know mainstream. I can imagine them asking some dude in Newcastle and he’ll be like “what’s the name of that lass that was on X Factor? Oh yeah Rihanna. Good bum that one”! Or a girl in Essex “Oh Amy Childs got a proper good body. That’s the same kinda boobs my boyfriend’s getting me for Christmas” [disclaimer: please don't take stereotypes to heart]
I’m not a big fan of this list.
To me, fantastic beach bodies are a combination of slim and curvy. I do think Marilyn had a great body, especially for her time period. Likewise, I also think women like Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes or Christie Brinkley should be on this list. To me they’re the epitome of “beachy.”
“Our results tell us that looking great on the beach is not about being the thinnest or the youngest woman around. Women are increasingly appreciative of figures that symbolise all the great things about womanhood.”
as long as you’ve got boobs/hips/an ass! dare not set foot on the beach if you’re flat!
Haha indeed
why is it that everytime someone is praising a feature or attribute, like beauty having no age or size or whatever, they have to put someone else down?! she is basically saying that unless you have curves, you are not a real woman. way to boost young girls’ confidence..
That’s what I was thinking. This list lack diversity.
ironic that the daily fail would compile the list like this, when so many times they taken jabs at female celebrities who have cellulite, have gained weight etc.
that aside, i totally get marilyn being number one. even if her beach body is not totally perfect on its own, she has this allure around her *in photos*, that just makes her look amazing, and makes me want to feel as happy as she looks. she was a very good model, one of the best ever imo.
The dailyfail have to pander to what their readers want.
sometimes.
pshh thats impossible. candie swanepoel has the best beach body i’ve ever seen, so that is incorrect madam..
these women are beautiful. i do not understand women on this site putting these ladies down because they have curves (or extra pounds- according to some). trust me, im 5′ 10″ and have been 115 pounds, and nobody found that attractive… I decided to gain 20 pounds (on my own accord) and i’m the happiest i’ve ever been, and the most appealing to men. i don’t ever understand why anyone would judge a person on their weight. If your healthy, have a good sense of humor and appreciation of life, why would you judge someone based on looks alone? clearly, there has to be some insecurity in yourself to do that.
Uhhh … well I think it depends on the extremity of your skinniness. Perhaps you were extremely skinny to start with and gaining those pounds only made you thin/slender, not particularly voluptuous. For example I’m 5’6″ 115 and I know for a fact that many guys in my area wouldn’t find me as attractive if I gained 20 pounds, even if I gained it in the right places. I think a major part of it is confidence, I just wouldn’t feel as comfortable if I was heavier.
DUMB
Christina is hot but not exactly a beach body- just my opinion.
Can’t we conduct lists that praise people for their intellect rather than who looks great in a bikini?
Lists like these further divide us and what’s worse; they create gender stereotypes. Real women have curves? Please…
If you really want to build up women, praise us for our minds, personality, and achievements. It’s completely ignorant to throw around “real women have curves” at this point in western society. Real women can think for themselves.
How did butt implanted Kim Kardashian beat Kelly Brook?
love #1 and #3 but christina hendricks should not be that near the list. not saying she looks bad but she is not that desirable above all the other candidates
agree
I think that there is money to be made if a “curvier” body type is promoted and coveted. Girls will invest serious cash for implants or padded swimsuits (as ironically mentioned in the excerpt) or any other type of gimmick they come out with if the girls feel this is what will make them closer to looking “curvy”.
Growing up, this was the toughest part for me: the feeling that if you didn’t have large breasts or a large butt, you were not feminine enough. Thats a big blow to self-esteem, just as much as “not feeling thin enough” is.
The media obviously doesn’t care. They just want to manipulate our tastes to sell us things. And the issue has nothing to do with raising girl’s self-esteem (bcuz only a demographic of girls will be uplifted by this) INSTEAD the motive is to sell and make money.
So….they created a list of girls with nice racks in order to sell more padded swim suits? Considering how many times they mention push up tops I’m thinking yes. Silly.
christina hendricks no 2??? they must be blind while voting..christina’s body look likes 50 year old women..
Actually, all this poll proves is that being thin has always been popular, whether in the 50′s or now. I don’t quite get how the size 14+ women out there have deluded themselves into believing that Marilyn is somehow carrying the torch for “curvy” women. Marilyn was around a modern day US6, with a 23 inch waist, not some Rosie O’Donnell look alike. Yet Marilyn is somehow the epitome of a real woman to the same people who cry anorexic if a woman has a 23 inch waist…… something that Marilyn was famous for.
Personally, I think Marilyn has a beautiful body, yet I’m more of a Brigitte Bardot fan myself. I would say MM is about the same size as someone like Jennifer Aniston, the only difference is that Marilyn has a softer look.
Agree Anastasia. I have often wondered why the real women brigade use M.Monroe was being a symbol of a larger woman, when she was in fact slim. And yes look at CH she is a fine example of someone whose boobs got huge because she packed on lots of weight. If you look at those pics she did for Playboy when she was much much slimmer her boobs were small/normal size then, it was the weight gain that made them so big.
Agree 100% Anastasia, and Bridget Bardot was breath-taking in her prime.
I agree Marilyn Monroe was a 2-4 us or 8-10 uk in her prime she wasnt more than a us 6-8 when she gained weight, its sad that during someones carear they gain weight for a small amount of time and are known as some plus size super star. Also is it me or is the gap between US and UK sizes getting bigger?
I think I’m a bit jaded when it comes to MM, haha. It’s the whole misguided embracing and labeling of her as a ~real woman~ The more someone is hyped, the less attractive they can seem just because EVERYONE thinks they’re so great.
“With the average cup size of the list going from a C to a D in just one year, they are proof that a voluptuous figure is even more desirable that ever before.”
Ya lol, the reason the average cup size is growing is because people are getting fatter. If you’re built like a tank, having a D cup is really not a big accomplishment, it comes with the territory. It doesn’t make you voluptuous, it makes you a blob. Those measurements are only impressive if the person in question is thin/slim and you can actually differentiate between the belly and boobs.
Well, I have DD cup boobs, am overweight and have a strong frame yet you can most definitely differentiate between my belly and boobs – I’m not thin/slim so does that still make me a blob?
Look, all I’m saying is that if a person is overweight, and has big boobs, well it’s no big deal as they are big everywhere else, so it’s no surprise that they’d have a bigger chest. The DM is making it seem like women are staying slimmer while their bust sizes are increasing, and that’s simply not true. Second part of your question, I cannot answer as I have no idea what your body looks like.
I agree with you, actually. Women are getting heavier and it’s perfectly obvious that on average their boobs are going to get bigger too. The DM is stupid and just trying to play to the insecurities bigger women face. But big boobs are not an achievement on anyone, thin or fat, they just are or are not! A lot of overweight women actually don’t get big boobs – they gain on their bellies or hips and only go up a little in cup size. It’s really down to genetics whether someone has big boobs or not – fat or thin. So overweight doesn’t equal big breasted every time.
Maybe I just misread you, but it sounded like you were saying that you can’t be voluptuous and be anything other than thin/slim. That’s why I said that I don’t know if I fit the description of ‘blob’, as you say big boobs only count on a slim person. I’m overweight, so although you can very clearly differentiate between my boobs and belly – do I still count as a ‘blob’ or not? Blob to me means a totally shapeless roundness and I think that many overweight women fit that description, but also many don’t.
Agree, overweight people have different shapes too! I don’t think it’s right to classify anyone as a blob even if they don’t have much WHR going on, but some overweight people still have visible curves.
I hate that Kim is # 4. We really DON’T need to bring more attention to her, she has enough.
Please. All this is is the department store and the DM trying to attract business. They are trying to be mildly controversial, so as to gain attention, and saying what they think their customers want to hear –and that thinking is no doubt based on extensive marketing studies.
And consider this, which is quoted above and is pretty blatantly advertising:
“sales of gel-filled bust-boosting bikini tops increased by 58 per cent last season and we have extended the range ready for the spring 2012 swell.”
haha, I just noticed that when I sit in the same position that Marilyn is sitting in, I have a similar belly pudge.
Me too, Anastasia, yet when I stand up, my stomach is pretty much flat! I don’t think it’s anything unusual to be honest- I would have thought most people had ‘belly rolls’ when sitting in that position, though I could be wrong!
like that pic of Rosie that was going about on here- the airbriushed version of her bending over slightly had a perfectly smooth belly, but of course someone got a hold of the real pic and lo and behold there was a roll. she’s made of flesh after all.
Haha, I do too. I was just looking at it in the mirror. i think it’s pretty natural even if you are thin. Gotta protect dat uterus.
I like to read post like this (truly funny) … personally I dont care about this kind of comment (probably because I am older then the majority here, in my 30s and one of the benefit of getting older (probably the only one) is that you dont need/want aproval from every person whos able to make a comment on the internet) I know at what weight and size I feel the comfortable and to me that is what I need to focus on. I dont fit in a D or even a C cup and I will not obsess about it end of story.
Christina looks chubby. She’s only on the list because it’s not PC to call her fat. I think she’s pretty but she be prettier if she lost 20 pounds.
i don’t like this list, and i don’t like dailymail. i agree that it’s very narrow minded in terms of what beauty and beautiful body shapes are, but i also want to say that a lot of the people on here, who are saying this list lacks skinnier body types, would you complain if they ONLY listed skinny toned model figures?
a lot of people on here will only voice their concern for a lack of “diversity” in sizes, shapes etc when their ideals are not put in the spotlight. it’s almost becoming something like racism/reverse racism instead of equality and learning to accept all.
a list doesn’t decide what is really beautiful, because everyone’s idea of beauty is different.
why was one of my comments deleted?
Hate that “real women” crap.
Oh wow, I’m terrified to read all these comments. The moment I saw Christina Hendricks at no 2 I knew things were gonna get messy…
Okay, first of all, I firmly believe that anyone who identifies as a woman IS A REAL WOMAN. Doesn’t even matter if you have a freaking vagina. If you feel that you’re a woman, you’re a woman, doesn’t matter what you weigh or how you’re shaped or even what sex organs you were born with.
That said, I understand how the “real woman” comments began — women who are larger than a certain size have been seriously underrepresented in the media for years and years, and you can hardly blame them for trying to claim back some sort of respect. I think it’s a bad choice of catchphrase — something like “average” or “normal” might have been better, although then you’d have loads of people shouting about how “size 12 isn’t the average, at least not where I live, you heifers must be from Kentucky!” or “So are you calling skinny people ABNORMAL??” It’s probably a lose-lose situation.
I’m probably going to get flamed for this, but while I may not agree with most of the names on this list (Amy Childs… seriously???) I think it’s good that there are heavier, curvier women on it. Most of these “bikini hot lists” are pretty predictable: a few VS models, maybe a glamour model or two, and some young actresses. Even on this list, it’s not like thin women aren’t being represented: Elle MacPherson is definitely thin. Rihanna is slender (yes, she has thicker thighs, but she’s still a thin woman.) Jennifer Aniston is in great shape. And I love that they’ve included older women — Helen Mirren is a BAMF and looks better in a bikini than loads of women half her age. And for all those people who are FURIOUS that there are heavier/curvier/thicker/wider women on a “great beach body” list… maybe you could consider WHY you find it so offensive. Is it because they don’t represent your body type? Then maybe you could think about plus-size women who are almost never represented in the media as “hotties.” How do you think that makes them feel? Skinny girls ARE the mainstream ideal of beauty; you know it, fat girls know it, everyone knows it. You have the privilege of fitting the standard of beauty. Is it so terrible to let heavier women embrace and appreciate their bodies?
Oh, and in anticipation of the inevitable “yeah you would defend teh fattiezzz you fat blob!” comments: Yep, some of you would probably consider me fat. I’m built almost exactly like Kelly Brook, have a healthy BMI, and like my body a hell of a lot. But I will never look like a VS model, and sometimes I get disappointed in myself because of that, even though I KNOW that’s a ridiculous way to feel. So I’m trying to imagine how women who are legitimately plus-sized must feel looking at models and actresses and “hot lists” full of women under a size 6. I’d find it disappointing that society has such a narrow idea of beauty. That’s all.
/End Odyssey-length post.
Well, I agree with you Sam! I think people forget that the ‘real women have curves’ thing simply stems from a desire to include curvier and/or heavier women in the world of attractiveness. For a long time thin has been the most important thing – doesn’t matter if you have a pretty face, a nice shape or are talented, if you are not lean you are not ‘hot’! (see any post about Adele!)
I feel that the ‘real woman’ thing is ridiculous and immature because it tries to categorise and exclude women just as those that started the ‘brigade’ themselves felt excluded by the mainstream. But I think you are right that it is a lose-lose situation. Some people just have a very narrow view of what is an acceptable size and shape to be called ‘sexy’ or ‘hot’. Also some people seem to think that if you say you prefer a certain size/shape that automatically means you are anti-everything else! You can never please everyone.
I also agree with your statement that: “Skinny girls ARE the mainstream ideal of beauty; you know it, fat girls know it, everyone knows it.” This is completely true and I often feel that those on here who are so offended by plus size models/celebs actually feel threatened and think that somehow being fat is going to become fashionable! It won’t – ever! But is it so bad for heavier women to have some positivity about themselves? Goodness knows there are enough ‘cow’, ‘huge’, ‘blob’ and other demeaning adjectives thrown around that we know that to many we will never be accepted as attractive or worthy of admiration until we lose weight. But how does it affect you if plus size women start to feel a little happier with themselves and not freakish and ugly? I’ve had these arguments many times on here and most reasonable people, no matter their preference, don’t have a problem with bigger women feeling better about themselves. But some seem to take the view that fat women should be ashamed all the time and accept that they are repulsive and have no business holding their heads high in the presence of the truly worthy of admiration – i.e. thinner women.
There truly is a narrow view of beauty in the mainstream and it can feel like a real blow to the many, many women who don’t fit – and it’s not just fat women that don’t.
Thanks, Erica — your comments are always so reasonable and well thought out! And I absolutely agree with what you said about the “narrow view of beauty in the mainstream.” You’re right, it isn’t just to do with weight either; there are expectations about women’s faces (the symmetry of features, the size of features…) and, worse, about skin colour… I was reading an interview with Viola Davis (gorgeous woman, btw) and she discussed the lack of roles for women of colour in Hollywood, and particularly for darker-skinned black women. I’m sure there are a lot of people on here who are more knowledgeable and eloquent about the subject than I am, but it’s pretty obvious she has a point.
As for the people who seem threatened by heavier women loving and appreciating their bodies rather than apologising for their size… yup, it’s ridiculous. It actually reminds me a bit of people who yell about “misandry” destroying our society and evil feminists hating all men and wanting to take everything from them. Men have privilege in this society; women do not, and feminists are trying to equalise things, not destroy all men. It’s pretty simple. Likewise, skinny girls are the standard of beauty. They have the privilege of not being demonised for the way their bodies look; why shouldn’t overweight women share in that privilege? It doesn’t mean that they hate all skinny girls and want them to become fat! Rargh!
… or, as you much more succinctly said, preferring one size/shape doesn’t mean you hate everything else!
Thanks Sam. I agree with you and totally understand your frustration. A lot of life is portrayed as black and white in the media – as if there is no compromise and no middle ground. Plenty of people pick up on this and adopt it themselves with the mantra: You’re either with us, or against us. I’ve always thought that was a terribly arrogant and intolerant saying, but to many people, it is the truth! It’s like ‘Let them hate, as long as they fear’ – that’s the motto of tyrants (the favourite saying of Caligula) and yet after Beckham had it tattooed on himself, it has become a strong, self-affirming saying. Again, it’s a very black and white way of looking at things that dismisses the opinions and feelings of others as less important than your own – and that seems to be the society we live in unfortunately!
I completely agree with your second paragraph!
I agree with you both but not many people have your sensitivity. Many of the women out there who don’t resemble the models or actresses lash out against thinner women and honestly, we don’t want to take it. I don’t think we’ve done anything wrong to target plus size women, in fact I like the idea of plus size modeling. But many plus size women don’t seem to think the same way.
“They (skinny girls) have the privilege of not being demonised for the way their bodies look; why shouldn’t overweight women share that privilege?”
I agree with the second part of your sentence, but we are demonised for the way you look! Nowadays it seems like no one will admit they like a thinner body, it’s become almost a taboo.
“It doesn’t mean that they hate all skinny girls and want them to become fat!”
I agree, many plus sized women may not feel this way, and you two definitely don’t. But at the same time there are so many more who give you guys a bad image, like the writer of this article. So we do feel as if we are being targeted by the average weight women, even if many of them are actually sympathetic, because the ones who do speak up are usually very vocal about it.
I see what you mean mel. Unfortunately there are always going to be callous people who want to trumpet their own cause by demeaning others. It’s the bully mentality and the DM have it on a grand scale!
I have met ‘skinny’ women who make rude, demeaning comments about heavier women, and I’ve also met heavier women that make demeaning comments about skinny women. I actually do think it is more acceptable in a way to make rude comments about (very) skinny women – like ‘give her a burger – no, make that 10!’. I mean, you read that on here sometimes and no one reacts. But calling someone a ‘fat cow’ is usually less acceptable. So, I get that you do feel targeted sometimes. Some people are just so black and white – that’s what I was saying – and I think that leads to a lot of arrogance and intolerance in many different areas, not just the weight thing.
I’m really beginning to see that people like you, Sam, me and a few others who regularly post here are in the minority in our desire to be more balanced and see things from another perspective – even if they may at first clash with our own beliefs or preferences. We actually *think* about it! Most just seem to spout out on one tangent and can’t accept any other way may have it’s merits. Sad really.
comments about “real woman” -fat jet?
to me ursula andress is the bomb!
you know what guys – men loove them boobs and curves. im sorry if you girls with no curves are offended but thats true.he will love you too, but he will always turn his head when someone with ass and especially boobs pass by.just watch on the street and you will see.they dont even care if shes a bit fat they will turn like a clock!of course there are men who loves them some skinny woman, but mostly they dont.thats why they are soo reliefed to see christina and kim.skinny is mainstream but to whom-womens magazines, women and fashion industry(and we know how many heteros work there.)and now VS and SI models are somewhere in between..they are like compromise between men and woman..cool enough to be seen by both sides..ok she gots some ass, maybe a bit of boobs, pretty faces ok..and skinny girls are not offended too..
‘he will love you too, but he will always turn his head when someone with ass and especially boobs pass by’
you’re delusional. not all guys love big boobs, especially not on fatties. you shouldn;t be with him in the first place anyway if you aren’t his type.
yeah, there are some that like chubby, just like some that like really skinny runway models.
girls that think it’s ok to be fat just cause they have boobs are ridiculous…especially when their love handles spill out of their leggings
Do you have to use the term ‘fatty’? It’s really quite offensive!
Agreed Erica, it is offensive. Artemis, would it be ok to call for me to say that pear shaped women have ‘thunder thighs’ or ‘mosquito bites’ for boobs. Of course not! It’s really, really insulting! Unfortunately, it has been said on this site but something I would never, ever say. You can show love for your own body shape without being so offensive towards others or else be prepared when someone says something equally offensive about *your* body type: if you can dish it out, be prepared to take it!
“girls that think it’s ok to be fat just cause they have boobs are ridiculous…especially when their love handles spill out of their leggings.”
“Girls that think it’s ok to be fat just cause they have saddlebags and huge butts are ridiculous…especially when they have cellulite all over their thighs and thick legs which look awful in leggings.”
Did you see what I just did there?
I don’t believe any of this AT ALL, in fact I have a big booty myself but you can’t control where fat goes it’s pure genetics. Someone could have easily said what I just said but unlike me, they could have meant it and pear-shaped ladies (like you) would feel like absolute sh*t and that’s not ok. It’s just the same as what you said when you used the term “fatties.”
look girl in real life there is no such a thing as “a tipe”, because at the end of the day people dont fall in love because of boobs or legs, but because of somebodys personality. i know so much men who prefered slim blondies and then they end up with chubby brunette and they are now in a happy relationship.my best friend prefered afroamericans, and then settle down with a white guy and she loves him very much in fact this is her best and longest relationship.but then on the other hand there are always some superficial and dumb people who will only date someone for the money and looks. but that never end up well. i agree you dont have to be fat just to have boobs. but you eather have them or you do not, no fat can help you there -just plastic surgery. and believe me im not delusional men loove boobs, and i know it best because i have them. i see the reactions of men, lots of them look like its no problem even when they are with their girlfriends.i dont say all of them but very moust of them do. its not like i say it is a nice thing to do but i just wanted to make a point. no girl should hate on her body. men dont look on our bodys like we do. they dont judge so much. we shouldnt do that too. no normal man will say oh scarlet johansons ass is so nasty she is a cellulite monster.or oh christina h. boobs are disquasting! isnt that sad that somebody else have to love our body so we can learn to love it to?
Also do you seriously think SI models and VS models aren’t the male ideal, and their preference actually skews towards the larger end of the spectrum? Plenty of men don’t like them, but I think a lot of them do. Why does every other guy like Megan Fox? Beats me, but she doesn’t exactly have the type of body you wax poetic about.
really no, i dont think VS and SI models are mens ideal.im not big and curvy advocate here, im just saying men love boobs and im annoyed by the girls who say christina is fat and flabby. and btw i find megan fox very attractive.i can see why men love her. she is hourglassy and her moves are sexy. and im not walking around with my boobs in nobodys face, i hardly ever wear cleavage, but i have a small waist so you can tell i got them.
oh and average VS model is what 174-180cm? you really think that 170 or even 175cm guy thinks they are his ideal?my boyfriend is 180 and he thinks they are too high!
Yeah but Megan Fox is at most a large B cup/small C cup and she has barely any ass at all. I do think height can be seen as a good thing if you are well proportioned. What I’m saying is the VS/SI models are something that is idealized, because obviously most guys wouldn’t want to date something taller than them, but something looked upon as more untouchable and kind of perfect. I’m not even going to argue anymore because you obviously are so set upon your own opinion, but in my experience Megan Fox/Bar Refaeli/Irina Shayk seem more desirable than Christina.
agree Artemis
you seem to have quite a vendetta against people with big boobs… it’s kind of hypocritical to criticise the stereotype of all guys loving big boobs and then trying to counter it by saying prefer slim waists and round butts like you often do. as someone who is a vase/hourglass shape with both boobs AND a round butt, i can seriously say that in MY personal experience, guys prefer women with bigger breasts over a round butt (of course most would certainly like to have both). i have a friend who is TINY and has massive rack and a smaller butt. then i have a friend who has a J.Lo booty and very small breasts. they all get hit on quite a bit, but Nicole’s boobs attract more attention. i’ve also always attracted more attention (negative and “positive”) because of my chest, though i personally think my butt is my best feature. look at magazines even…nowadays, bigger breasts are everywhere in magazines which cater to men. small waists and bigger butts are still more popular in demographics which cater to black and hispanic men (just an observation i’ve made as a black woman). i think it;s safe to say all men have their preferences, but above all, as far as looks go, a pretty face is preferred above all else, no matter what your shape is.
also, i’m quite offended that you seem to link obesity with having big breasts…really? because i’m quite petite and even with my recent weight loss (due to school stress, not intentional) i’ve managed to keep my 32DD breasts, their size has not fluctuated at all, my waist has even slimmed out, but they are still here! big breasts are determined by genetics, not really by how fat you are. i’ve seen plenty of overweight women with completely flat asses and stomachs that stick out further than their breasts. just like i’ve seen overweight women who i would undoubtedly consider curvaceous because of the way they carry their weight. body shape is determined by GENETICS.
Agreed Winnie! I have a friend who is smaller than me (I’m a uk size 8), she’s a uk size 6 at 5’3-5’4-ish and she has super slim arms and legs and a small ribcage but her boobs are a full D-cup maybe bigger. From what Artemis said, you wouldn’t know that there are plenty of super slim ladies (like you and my friend) rocking gigantic knockers lol!
*And plenty of overweight women who don’t have huge boobs but have bigger bellies. One of my other friends has this body type too and she has no trouble finding a boyfriend or attracting men!
exactly. her comments sound bitter and uniformed, not to mention offensive. your friend’s frame sounds a lot like me! i’m 5’3″ 1/2, i was recently sized for a bra and discovered my size. i don’t think it’s even that uncommon to have a small frame and big boobs tbh, people just don’t know their proper bra size. before this i was wearing 34C bras! i was WAAAYYYYY off lol! i think it’s unfortunate that some people like validate their self-worth based on what “men” supposedly “want”. you said in your other post, your friend has a body type which i wouldn’t personally find attractive and yet she has no problem attracting them. so what does that say to the girls who preach about men only wanting “curvy” or “slim” girls? people need to stop being so ignorant.
Wow Winnie from a 34C to 32 DD?! Damn, your poor boobies must have been suffocating lol! I agree her comments are even offensive to some of the pear shaped women which she praises, umm… Jennifer Love Hewitt and Amber Rose are both gorgeous busty pears lol, I guess they must be obese “fatties” too as she calls them!
Yeah, I do believe in real life, there will *always* be someone who’s attracted to your shape whatever it is even though I agree it’s sad and annoying that people will only base their worth on what “men” say or want. I’m kinda the opposite to you in terms of shape. I have narrow hips, broader shoulders, slim but muscular thighs, big bum (38 inches) and small boobs (34b) and a relatively small waist and men are still attracted to me. Doesn’t mean I have to be bitter about those who don’t share my physical attributes though *side eye*
I also think it’s cuz your boobs are in the front so that’s what you notice first. There was actually a poll somewhere with quite a few men and most of them preferred a great ass over great boobs, but who I am I to know … I just know guys have different preferences and you can’t say definitively that they prefer one over the other. Because I definitely got an opposite impression from you!
“Skinny girls” are not offended by anything here. Sorry. Check your grammar and facts better next time anyway.
my grammar is just fine considering english is not my mother language.. its not like im tring to get nobels prize here..
Uh not really…your punctuation and spelling mistakes were actually fairly distracting; aside from the fact that your typical “big vs. skinny” argument was nonsensical.
lol i bet you bully foreign kids at school
No, I don’t.
Well, I consider myself skinny, and I AM offended when commenters bash my body type. In the end of the day it’s okay, because I’m mostly fine with the way I look, but still, some comments are quite unpleasant to read.
Even if your shape is more “mainstream”, some people constantly need to spread negativity and if you aren’t too fat, flabby, untoned you are going to be too skinny, straight, flat-chested.
Don’t you ever think that a guy could look at boobs without being attracted to them? I once read an article written by a guy who liked smaller boobs but said he would look at bigger boobs on the street just because they are in your face and attract attention. I know a lot of women look at other girls with huge chests, but that certainly doesn’t mean they are attracted. It’s like “OMG check out her boobs they’re so big!” rather than “Wow, she’s so hot.” Now of course many men are attracted to big boobs but don’t assume that just because their gaze is drawn they are attracted. If Coco (Ice T’s wife) walked down the street tons of people would stare, but I doubt anyone would actually want to get with her. Then why do people turn to look at me, even when they are walking with their curvier girlfriends? I certainly don’t have big boobs or a huge ass, yet many times I have received more stares than the ones with the aforementioned assets. How do you explain that? It’s not even like I’m particularly stunning, so there goes your argument.
This! ^
i would say if you have a pretty face, that pretty much trumps anything. my ex bf also said guys like girls who look happy so, maybe it’s that. the most probable explanation is that women try to over-simplify men’s preferences and don’t consider that different men have different tastes.
I agree! Pretty face > great body.
I totally agree with this mel! I was in Italy once and this woman leaned over into the car window to talk to me and her boobs were like, huge and in my face and of course you look – I was a bit hypnotised! They are kind of impossible not to look at! Women look at other women’s big boobs all the time – I’ve see women look at mine, and I’m pretty sure it’s not because they are attracted to me!
Sure, men will look at big boobs and may even talk about them as if they are the most amazing thing on a woman, try to cop a feel, etc, but when it comes down to it, most men are pretty flexible about these things. Plenty of men prefer small boobs because they won’t sag much. Plenty of men prefer big, fleshy globes too, And plenty of men don’t really care what size your boobs are! There is no one *right* way to be that will be attractive to all men!
Big boobs get stared at for many reasons – it’s really not just about attraction. They are kind of mesmerising sometimes – especially when they look like they might burst out of their prison at any moment (like Coco’s or CH’s often do!)
Haha, bursting out of their prison made me lol. But yes, a lot of times I am simply mesmerized by them, even though of course a lot of people (of the opposite gender, mostly) find them very attractive!
There is so much HATE here. Oh my god, I can’t even read it all because my eyes BURN.
I just wonder how many of you, who openly insult ANY body, have thought themselves the sweetest of humans. I just wonder if you know, that there are people out here in this world, people like for example me, who don’t WANT to be ‘fatties’? But they ARE, and it’s not because they don’t diet enough or run enough or work out enough? I wonder if you even sit back and think before you press submit, that there are women out there looking for just a bit of acceptance? Just a bit of happiness? Just a HINT of ‘hey it’s ok you aren’t that bad’ after they have just been laughed at or watched their ‘thin’ friends have the best of most worlds? I’m 18 now, when I was 13 I was a 5′ kid, weighing 185 pounds, the JOKE of my school. I exercised, took drugs at some point, I dieted till I’d faint from hunger, I smoked till my lungs dried, I threw up and threw up, till I started throwing up blood. I got a freaking ulcer, I prayed and hoped and worked to be a skinny girl, I tried to DIE because I wasn’t one. I wished for that life, where the guys would drool over me and the women would sigh at my narrow waist. I’m 5’6 and a half now. I weigh almost 160 pounds, I have BROAD shoulders, average breasts, a WIDE waist, and HIPS. I’m like a 34C-30-41 when apparently to be accepted I need to be a what? a 32-22-32? Do you think I enjoy that my THIGH is MUSCLED and as big as a models waist? DO YOU?
And just this once, after that nice blow of finding out how the plus sized crystal renn was a ‘fatty’ too at a U.S size 12, and how the new one is much better, I was like WOW Debenhams says, people like me, they can actually be the ones with good beach bodies, maybe I’m not so bad after all. I looked for acceptance in these threads and found hate. Thin girls, I agree, are mocked and taunted too, but HOW MANY TIMES A DAY? If they feel bad, they can just watch a VS show, ask a guy friend if they are fat, open VOGUE COSMO OR GLAMOUR? But what about GIRLS LIKE ME? Girls built like Vikings, who freaking feel like a freaking man because of all this? What channel do I switch to? What mainstream model do I look at and say: Oh she’s like me, so I’m hot too.
I, will go one more time, and smoke a cigarette, and exercise through a fever, and then cry over my HUGE clothes. I’ll just go and call myself a FATTY and cry and accept that im fat and therefore should not accept a funny cute guy to date me, a steamy make out session, someone who could pick me up and twirl me because HA HA HA, I weigh as much as any guy.
Anyway, thank you for making me feel rotten to the core. and thank you for showing people that the best way to ward off your own insecurities is to go and type away about weird fatties, or scary skinnies.
xoxox,
A Fatty.
Hi Maria. I’m sorry about what you went through, it sounds awful and nobody should have to endure what you have. Honestly, people are built so differently from each other and trust me there’s nothing wrong with that at all! I have narrow hips and a huge bum, sometimes I wish my hips were wider but I’ve come to accept my body for what it is and you should too. We are all ‘real’ and deserve to be proud of our assets whatever they may be, self-loathing is counter-productive whatever body shape you’re rocking. I know a lot of people on this site have a ‘ideal’ body type but I really, really believe that one body type/shape isn’t better or worse than the other, there is beauty in all of them yours included. Can I make a suggestion? – stop visiting this site, if it’s only giving you grief then find another outlet. I know there’s a tumblr called ‘Curve Appeal’ (just google it) which is a body acceptance blog for curvy/plus-sized ladies. I hope one day you can make peace with your body. xx
girl you are soo young! and you are so pretty i dont even have to look at your picture im telling you so much life is ahead of you. what do you care about this sad ED girls tiping on their computers there is a whole world out there thats waiting for you oh and you should know so many guys would love them some “fatties” they dont read womans magazines and they dont care what is mainstream or in vogue.work on your carier, on yourself as a person and love your body because beauty really comes from within!believe me no mature man will date a b*tch only because shes skinny!
“sad ED girls” are probably the last people to insult someone based on weight because they know how it feels and they hurt deeply and feel empathy for anyone experiencing the pain they go through. I think the girls that openly call others fatty and the likes definitely do not have eating disorders, it’s more likely that girls that use such hurtful words are normal gals, sometimes average size, sometimes skinny, sometimes heavy and have never experienced an ed because if they had, they would think before insulting. Some of the sweetest, most supporting people I have met were in an ed clinic. Having an eating disorder =/= being a ruthless harpy.
Totally agreed!
Maria, I understand where you are coming from – I’m plus size and sometimes reading the comments on here is quite depressing and offensive. The number of not only negative comments about any woman above a certain size, but also the vitriol with which some people express their dislike of said women, is pretty awful. But, there are also plenty of people who are more moderate or even prefer heavier figures – so it’s not all negative!
I’m sorry that you had such a tough time as a young teenager – no one should have to go through that. I had plenty of issues at that age too that had to do with my weight, among other things, and I was quite depressed and self destructive for a time. I grew up and out of it, but the hurt is always there. The most important thing is to realise that when it comes down to it, anyone in your real life (not your online one) who actually judges you based solely on your appearance is a jerk who you need to get away from. In the real world, your looks don’t matter anywhere near as much as your brains, talents, heart, personality or achievements. Although some people on here may say ‘if I was that fat, I would kill myself’ (have read that several times in the past) or otherwise make it sound like their lives would be over if they gained weight – I seriously doubt they mean it! I was going to say that I haven’t read the word ‘fatty’ here for a while, but I see artemis has just used that word in the next post!
Anyway, ignore people who just want to put others down – you don’t need their approval. You are a young woman and you should be looking forward to your life and living it by your own heart and good judgement, and not obsessing over your weight and measurements! The people who do obsess over those things are the ones to pity!
All the best!
I’m sorry, that is terrible! But a lot of us here are just trying to promote body acceptance, not put down larger people! I believe people have the right to accept their body at any size, and I know it can be very difficult, but at least appreciate that you’re healthy. Trust me there are people out there (and normal, attractive, smart people) who find your body type very attractive. There are so many people in the world and there is someone for everyone. Just because there are guys who prefer the SI or VS models doesn’t mean there isn’t a guy who’d prefer you. Who cares about 80% of the guys, if you only need the one guy (or few guys) who are right for you? Also, I know although I am initially attracted by looks, many times I end up falling for someone who is not the best looking out there. But I can’t see them as unattractive at all because I like them! So please don’t get yourself down because once a guy likes you (and there will be plenty), you have absolutely no reason to be insecure, or he isn’t worth your time. Just remember that you are beautiful, no matter what other people or the media say.
“Also, I know although I am initially attracted by looks, many times I end up falling for someone who is not the best looking out there. But I can’t see them as unattractive at all because I like them! ”
This is true for me too. So maybe it is true of men too
Maria, there is NOTHING wrong with you. Please believe me when I say you are beautiful the way you are. Ignore people who sound off with such disgusting words, let them be alone in their misery. Only a miserable human being would call another human being something undeserved just because of weight. Do not sink to that level and let their misery infect you. Please don’t hurt yourself, you are precious and have so much to give. Being thin isn’t the end all be all to physical attractiveness. This is eating you up inside and you certainly don’t deserve it. But I get why you did the things you did, the past hurts and it creates a panic to obsessionally fix whatever you felt caused the pain. But remember this: there is nothing to fix. Just live healthy. Healthy is beyond sexy. Have a good day and hold your head high.
That sounds awful. I know you must not want to be heavier, but everyone is built differently. I see heavy girls at my high school surrounded my size 2 girls with fast metabolisms. Its not their fault their metabolism is slow, its not their fault they eat as much as every other girl but every once shows. That must be awful, and I know how bad they feel about them selves. Most of the girls I know that cut themselves are heavier. Its just not fair they get hate just because they are built different. Every time I hear someone say a rude comment about a girl’s body at school I want to punch them in the face. My mom is trying so hard to loose weight after menopause and it isn’t easy to lose weight with a slow metabolism. Anyone who ever says a rude comment to you or another heavy person doesn’t know the impact is had and is ignorant. People are so immature and the best you can do is ignore it and stay away from sites like this. Everyone has flaws and I don’t think they would like it is the had a bunch of snobs pointing them out. I promise you there is something special about you and that’s what you have to focus on, whether it is physical or not.
*by once I mean like a part of a pound
Ugh its spelled *ounce sorry I was blanking out
bs
i wouldn;t wanna be fat just to have big boobs(i’m a pear so there’s no other way)
also…i don;t like marilyn’s belly in that pic
CH???? are you joking? LOL, fatty
kim k? real? no
i;m surprised rihanna is even in this list considering its big boob love.
helen mirren deserves a place on this list, i respect her and she looks way better than some young ones. i’d take her over CH any day
beyonce has a good body indeed. guess they put her on this list cause of the recent baby-bigger boobs. wasn;t she a real woman with small ones too?
i’m too bored to comment on the others
lol @ flatty complaints.
Without question Monroe is hotter than anyone commenting.
Healthy women have a little bit of fat on their bodies. Men prefer it – only women admire anorexic flatty’s.
I don’t really disagree with this list most of these bikini bodies are absolutely amazing and these women are curvy to the max with great WHR. I’ve been trying to gain weight because I want a curvier figure and it is really hard to do. I think it is much harder to gain weight in the right places than to be skinny with abs. All you have to do to be skinny is eat the right foods and exercise daily, but having perfect measurements and hourglass figures is something not everyone has, it has to be given to you. People rarely have bodies like this anymore and thats why I really like this list. The only problem that I have is that this is more of a curvy list instead of a great bikini body list. Gisele should be on this she works hard for her body!
It’s funny, and a little sad, how worked up everyone is getting over some stupid list!!! Every woman is beautiful, despite shape or size. Some prefer thin, some prefer curvy, but insulting someone’s size because it’s not what u like is just plain ignorant!! All the woman on that list r beautiful to me. I could care less if someone has a belly or cellulite, no one is in a position to judge another woman’s body. It just makes woman look jealous, hateful and scornful. Love yourself and u won’t have an issue with how other females look. ( I’m not trying to offend anyone, I just find it all SO ridiculous)
Where did they get their votes?
In no way does this list represent the diversity of beauty ideals. It’s like a standard, biased body image commercial. And yet again the message is: There is the one right body type and if you don’t have it, you’re “out”.
Sometimes I pray to god for a third hand, because double facepalm is not enough for the “real women” crap.
A lot of the comments on here are completely ridiculous. First, you’ve got the “real woman” brigade that love these sort of made up lists because they promote a certain body type. Then you’ve got the “ultra skinny” brigade that loves to pounce on anyone who likes curvier body types.
I have to say, both groups are annoying because they cannot tolerate other types of opinions. I like slim and curvy because it’s healthy and pleasing to look at.
Well, aren’t you promoting a certain body type too then? A pretty mainstream one, actually. I think the majority of commenters would agree about the “slim and curvy” look.

Yes Mara, she’s really quite a hypocrite most of the time. What she likes is “the” best and the ideal, and if you don’t like the decided upon (by her) perfect “slim and curvy” look, well, you’re just stupid. Anything else is unattractive and irrelevant, really. Lol.
agreed.
ah look im not prefering curvy look over skinny look, chubby over slim, beauty can come in any size, just some of the comments p**sed me off cause they sound crazy and unreal. thats it.
Poll is about right, only… Christina Henrdricks? Uhm, she looks great with clothes on, but no, I don’t envy her beach figure. Especially if you got Marilyn and Raquel to choose from. Every woman is as real as a woman can get, huge boobs or no boobs or whatever, but Marilyn fits my idea of a perfect female body. She is lean and soft, round but doesn’t look “heavy” as Christina sometimes looks (to me). Beauty is just aestethics (and other stuff like inner beauty… but blah) and depends from the point of view. End of story.
#16 is NOT Kim Katrell. That’s Marla Maples. Donald Trump’s ex wife
This is list lacks diversity.
Being cynical, it could have been fabricated by Daily Mail. But if it was not, just shows that cello, pear shaped and hourglass bodies are always praised as iconic and ideal.
It’s a shame that almost all those women have similar bodies, there is so much beauty in so many different sizes and shapes. I would also love to see bigger and slimmer women in this list. The lack of race diversity is also sad .
I agree, entirely. This list seems to be biased towards a certain body type but for whoever made this list – I always think things are completely fabricated as well – it’s really responsible of them to promote healthy bodies. Good for them.
marylin monroe had a tiny waist, it was around 22-24 depending on her weight fluctuation, but she always had large hips and bust in comparasant, so if the media are going to blame the media for annorexia isnt this article promoting women wearing dangerous corsets and having a boob job? its like the daily mail using kim kardishan as a “healthy role model for young women” when she is famous for being attractive and sociable and has fake tits
I want to punch in the face everyone who says, ‘real women have real curves.’ Am i not a real woman because i have small boobs/bum? Should i get implants? oh wait but then i’d be fake so what should i do?
i think michelle williams and rooney mara are very pretty girls and they have no boobs or bum.
Christina Henricks is fat and flabby, that isn;t an opinion it’s a fact which is why she has so many women defenders. It is women who are her main fanbase. because she isn’t a model type she is easy to relate to. All the hate for VS models comes from women, not men.
A lot of models here are thin AND flabby too!
Umm, what if a woman happens to like both CH and some of the VS models? Or do you think that’s impossible?
I know some men that would have VS girls in tears if they were to say what they think of them to their faces. In any case, what of it that the love for CH is coming from women? Is your praise for VS models any less meaningful because you’re a woman? I think it is better to admire something that is more attainable to your own appearance than something that is out of reach for you. CH is a big girl but hardly in need of a carer to wash rotting rolls of flesh.
Oh ffs. I’m going to bypass the real woman bullshit, because it’s just that. But apart from Raquel Welch, there is nobody on this list whose body I’d want. Hendricks?!
And please, if Marilyn and I ever shared a waist size (23), I’m the Russian queen.
I’m confused by the last part of your comment. Marilyn Monroe did indeed have a small waist around 22-24. Claims of her “large” size often forget that vintage size 12/14/16 is not the same as its modern equivalent. If you see her clothes in real life, particularly from the 50s before the miscarriages and pills took its toll, she was a slim women with a tiny waist. Celebrities back then had softer looks hence why they are sometimes perceived to be bigger than they were when in fact most of them were slim/thin women.
I think, maybe, the term “real” was coming from how these women don’t starve themselves? Maybe being real is not being superficial and artificial? All those women embraced there natural bodies and are healthy. STOP BITCHING BECAUE YOU ARE SKINNY AND ACT UPSET BECAUSE YOU ARE A SIZE 0. We know you like to rub it in.
Marilyn has a spare tire. Most over-rated woman ever.
I’m not even going to further comment on the whole “real women have curves” bs because that’s exactly what it is, complete and utter bullsh*t. I love a wide range of body types and I was disappointed by the lack of diversity of figures on this list. In my own personal opinion, the only ladies who belong on this list are Marilyn, Raquel Welch, Ursula Andress, Kelly Brook, and Tyra Banks in her prime.
60 years after her death and she is still the standard of beauty, that is an ICON
I’m so damn happy that this proves skin and bones is not sexy. all the women on that list or curvy and soft.
I agree curvy and soft can be attractive but this list does not prove anything! Lists like these are always a strange phenomenon to me, look at Maxim’s, FHM’s, this list, they all vary so much. I think Maxim’s last time had a handful of VS models and SI models at the top. Just goes to show there’s no one proof of hotness, everyone has different opinions!
That’s a really pretty pic of Amber you found mel!

Ok well I think people have said it all on this thread lol. I will just say that I do not agree with that list at all. I’m sorry these women are just not my taste.
Where are all the VS models? Sorry but Christina Hendricks doesnt have a nice body inside clothes, what about a bikini body…pfft
disagree with this list , most of these women had work done. Marilyn yes back the day , plastic surgery was use by celebs. ppl do your research. kim k , dont get me started.
real women has ovaries , vagina and reproductive system !
Hollywood has brainwash us and made women feel bad about them self’s.
