Audrey Hepburn – The Most Beautiful Woman of the Past Century, Says New Poll
July 2, 2010 in Beauty & Body Image by Versus

A new poll made by shopping channel QVC which questioned over 2,000 women established that: Audrey Hepburn is / was the most beautiful woman of the past 100 years. Curious to see Top 10? It’s quite… random?
10. Jennifer Aniston
9. Kelly Brook
8. Princess Diana
7. Halle Berry
6. Scarlett Johansson
5. Grace Kelly
4. Angelina Jolie
3. Marilyn Monroe
2. Cheryl Cole
1. Audrey Hepburn
What do you think of this one, guys?
Who deserves to be on such a list?

Audrey definitely deserves the first place . But who in the world put Cheryl Cole on the second place ? She is pretty ,but I don’t think she is that special .
Agreed! and above Marilyn? It’s crazy i tell yah xD
I definitely agree. Audrey deserves to be on the top. Cross out Cheryl Cole.
I would definitely add here Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Eva Longoria.
i’ve never been a fan of Eva
so true !
how convenient that ALL THESE WOMEN ARE AMERICAN! are there no other beautiful women in the world?
a bit sad but totally laughable…
cheryl cole is british actually…so is princess diana and so is kelly brooke!
Err cheryl cole’s english for starters.
And if you guys are american, then you havnt been seeing cheryl cole on your tv screens like we have, and how every guy wants her and all the girls want to be her. She’s glamorous, friendly and ever mans dream.
Personally, i think she deserves it up there, maybe put her on 3rd after marilyn, but she is close to perfect.
… except that 3 of them are NOT American. Cheryl, Kelly and Princess Diana are British. I think it’s quite tragic that you don’t even know that Princess Diana of WALES was not American.
hahaha
grace kelly is from philadelphia….
Kirshna, she means Kelly Brook not Grace Kelly
Audrey Hepburn was a British .
she was from the netherlands actually and left to go to britain during or just after the war.
That’s so funny because the first thing I thought was, well they obviously just polled British women.
lol yes i did realise that some were british but only after i posted that comment. you cant argue, however, that they certainly haven’t considered other countries – it should not be the most beautiful woman in the WORLD.. it should be the most beautiful in hollywood, or in western society etc… all the women except halle are caucasian/anglo so that really is sending a message, dont u think?
Since when did Princess Diana and Audrey Hepburn become American?
I agree with everyone on the list, except Jen Aniston. I really don’t care for her nose or chin. But, Audrey Hepburn is wayyy up there for sure, she has such a gorgeous face shape, and those eyes!
No question. Audrey was the most gorgeous woman ever.
cheryl cole above Marilyn Monroe? Are they serious? And this was a poll done by WOMEN? I just can’t believe it… cheryl cole is as average as it gets also she has no talent so you can’t credit her for anything. Marilyn Monroe has been THE sex bomb and goddess to all women for over 50 years. I was surprised to see audrey over Marilyn, but cheryl? I’d get it if it was a poll done by men who only think with their you-know-what (no dirty words
) but i figured women would have a better sense of beauty in women. God those women must be stupid
exactly!
well isn’t it all about personal preferences? take me as an example: i don’t find marylin monroe to be beautiful. i think she looks very cute and pretty (and, of course, sexy) but in an average way. same goes for cheryl cole. i’d put megan fox (pre-cheek-surgery) in cheryls place, and others may think penelope cruz or natalie portman deserve this place. that doesn’t make us ‘stupid’, now does it?
I agree, I don’t find marylin to be as beautiful as everyone makes her out to be. Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s pretty but I think some of her contemporaries like Ava Gardner, Lauren Bacall, Leslia Caron, Ingrid Bergman, etc., were more classically and techinically beautiful.
same
what about Brigit Bardot, Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch, Iman, Catherine Deneuve, Carla Bruni (circa 1995)? Why are there no French women? People only think about the immediate when they respond to these things.
I agree with Sophia Loren, Iman and Catherine Deneuve.
I totally agree with you. =D
Cheryl Cole is the most beautiful woman on that list… and I’m not even her fan. Different tastes.
Exactly! Reena, someone agrees with me.
Guys cheryl cole is FAR from average, she is the most stunning woman in definately England, and we have seen her grow. Everyone loves Cheryl and she is gorgeous, and every girl wasnts to look like her. Who do you see around here these days who try to look like marilyn?? This is the present tense, and cheryl is the definaition of what these woman find beautiful NOW and what they would love to look like.
And FYI, cheryl has got loads of talent, she can sing although she isnt exactly beyocne, but you clearly havnt seen the documentary she did on street dance, and she was AMAZING, i do street dance and i would love to be even half as good as her. You guys who diss her are either jealous or have no talent of yourselves and dont give people a chance.
Way to speak for an entire country…..
Cheryl is far from the most stunning woman in England, and NO, everybody does not love her. She is average looking, but full of make up, hair styling and a million other false things. Take a look at pictures of her when she was like 18, before she was famous – you would not say that she was stunning. Her teeth were awful before she was famous, and she has a big, humpy nose, which is now contoured with layers of expertly applied make up, and air brushing in promotional pictures. When she was on Pop stars, the reality show, no one was raving about how “beautiful” Cheryl was. It’s only come about in recent years, with her magical make over and her very talented PR company.
She is, also, a chav; for one, you only need to listen to her terrible accent. She has no manners and no idea how to behave in society; she assaulted a night club attendant, giving her a black eye and bruised face. Furthermore, in court, she showed no remorse for her actions – she clearly thought that was an acceptable way to “stick up for yourself”, as Cheryl would say! It makes me fall about laughing when i hear her spurting (clearly rehearsed) sentences like, “You delivered this week”, on X factor. LMAO! Cheryl does not even know what delivered means in that context ! She would say – if she wasn’t pretending to be refined because the X factor producers had not given her a list of spellings to learn – “You did proper good tonight mate”.
And no, i am not jealous – if i think a woman is beautiful, i will say so. I can give you a list of beautiful women: Keira Knightley, Katy Perry, Frankie Sandford (Saturdays), Zoe Dechanel, Candice Swanepoel, Leighton Meester…. Even with her make up, Cheryl Cole does not match up.
agree!!!
I’m not aginst Cheryl, and I’m sure she doesn’t think she’s above Maralyn Monroe or ANGELINA JOLIE!!!!!!!!!!!
I do not like Kim Kardashian, but I think she deserves to be up there more!
i personally find Cheryl Cole false.. i used to think she was pretty in her younger days but she has the money to make the way she looks now. there are alot of unique and naturally beautiful women out there. other then the ‘nations sweetheart’.
”Cheryl is gorgeous, and every girl wasnts to look like her. Who do you see around here these days who try to look like marilyn?? This is the present tense, and cheryl is the definaition of what these woman find beautiful NOW and what they would love to look like.”.. yes people may want to look like her NOW. but the whole point of this poll was to get the top 10 most beautiful women of the PAST CENTURY, therefore you cannot compare Cheryl Cole to Audrey hepburn or Marilyn Monroe. in 50 years time, Cheryl Cole will not be remembered but Audrey hepburn&Marilyn Monroe will be forever idolised and icons to all ages for their beauty and themselves overall
i think ive proved my point
ummmm, grace kelly too. she was way more beautiful than marilyn. marilyn was sultry sexy, grace was glamorously beautiful!
i agree!!! grace kelly was everything!
She should’ve been higher up on the list. I thought she was absolutely stunning! She was a great actress, princess and mother too.
Totally agree but this poll was probably done by a young modern audience, for whome the classic and iconic beauties will not stand out in their minds as much as the more contemporary girls on the scene.
I would have had Dorothy Dandridge in that list. She was an unbelievable beauty.
god i love audrey (prob cause we look alike)!
Lucky you! ^^
The only ones I agree with are Angelina, Grace, Marilyn, and Audrey, mayyybe Halle-the rest???
interesting list……
wonder how many people voted?
WHAT????? cheryl cole don’t deserve the second place! But Audrey… Oh! She SO deserves the first! Audrey was so pretty but, more than that, Audrey was classy… This is a very uncommom thing in hollywood this days. I would do like this:
Audrey Hepburn
Monica Bellucci
Grace Kelly
Marylin Monroe
Halle Berry
Natalie Portman
Jane Birkin
Salma Hayek
Bridget Bardott
Angelina Jolie
Very nice list! I agree with you for the most!
Quote “cheryl cole don’t deserve the second place!”
LOL My thoughts!
I like your list. I would also would include Sophia Loren and Catherine Deneuve. Raquel Welch is another stunner!
Why the hell cheryl cole?
No one even thought she was beautiful when she was first in girls aloud. I agree she’s pretty but without all of the make up and stylists and such, shes just average, I see hundreds of people everyday who are just as pretty as her.
Completely agree with Audrey Hepburn though.
Err EVERYONE would look average without hair or make up.
I didnt say anything about hair. And nope, I know a few people who look absolutely stunning with or without make-up. For example, I think angelina jolie, looks absolutely beautiful with or without make-up.
I agree; some people look beautiful without make up (Halle Berry being one of them, as is Keira Knightley), some look alright (Cheryl Cole being an example) and some look quite horrible (Pamela Anderson coming to mind!).
=D
Cheryl cole?
She should NOT BE on this list
I agree with Audrey being number one, but Cheryl Cole shouldn’t be so high up. I mean, she’s really beautiful, but she’s not epic. The same goes for Jennifer Aniston and Kelly Brook.
I’d rather see the likes of Iman, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, Rita Hayworth, Greta Garbo, Natalie Portman and Christy Turlington on the list.
YES!
THIS.
Gosh, I had to come back to mention Aishwarya Rai!
She totally needs to be on that list.
I politely disagree with this assertion. She’s one of those people who look good (not to me) with a lot of “pancake” on her face, though I for one, find it cloying to my eyes and completely fake. I dislike Rai’s looks for the same reason I dislike (or used to dislike) Liv Tyler’s looks: I think their facial proportions are odd.
Brook, Aniston, Johansson and Cole should definitely be X’ed off that list and Rai and Longoria shouldn’t be entered.
Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren, Cate Blanchett, Iman, Liya Kebede, Princess Diana, Padma Lakshmi, Natalie Portman, Kara Goucher would be my 10 but I am amenable to making this a list of 15…
I’ll post my list of 15 (or so) below.
Audrey? Agree. She was an angel. Beautiful inside and outside and her work for unicef will always be remembered.
http://www.unicef.org/specialsession/photoessays/audrey/photo1.htm
The others are somewhat ridiculous. I think of our german icon Romy Schneider, Monica Bellucci, Catherine Deneuve or Brigitte Bardot.
Cheryl Cole, Jennifer Aniston? It’s not about the girl next door.
For the ones who don’t know Romy Schneider. Big Image!
http://www.celebs101.com/gallery/Romy_Schneider/202061/Romy_Schneider_51.jpg
I agree with you about Romy Schneider! She was truly enchanting and so charming. I also agree about the other actresses on your list and I have to mention Mia Wasikowska once again – yes, she’s still so young, but when you see her acting, she’s undeniably beautiful and stunning; it is similar with Cate Blanchett.
Strange list, but regarding the fact that it was made by QVC…
Obviouly this poll was done before people knew who Mia Wasikowska was. Why else would Cheryl Cole, the female equivilant to Ant & Dec, be quite high.
Other young beauties fitter than Cheryl include
Anna Popplewell
Gerorgie Henley
Carey Mulligan
“Mention Mia Wasikowska again”? This is the first you mentioned her. Having said that, Mia Wasikowska is more of a classic beauty than the likes of Cheryl Cole and Kelly Brook, women that get overexposed on reality tv.
By contrast Mia gives the likes of Carey Mulligan, Anna Popplewell and Emma Watson a run for their money.
I wonder how many of the voters are fans of Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor.
I agree with you about Mia Wasikowska.
Mia along with Gwenyth Paltrow, envisions what a movie goddess should look like.
Cheryl’s only on this list because of her exposure on X-Factor. It ain’t suprising that she’s annoying given she comes fron the land of Geordies (Newcastle) along with the equally annoying Ant & Dec, not to mention Simon King from The Hairy Bikers.
I second the vote on Mia Wasikowska.
I hate these lists. They’re such rubbish.
totally agree. i see beautiful woman every single day just walking down the street, how can anyone say anyone is the MOST beautiful. and it puts such an emphasis on something that shouldn’t be so prized. the only thing i do think is that it is reassuring that woman who aren’t conventionally stunning get on there. it shows that we admire them for more than their looks. Audrey Hepburn was a fascinating, talented and compassionate woman and she should be remebered and valued primarily for that, not her looks.
Cheryl Cole number two?!? No Sophia Loren, Bridgette Bardot, Jayne Mansfield or Monica Bellucci ? Marilyn Monroe number three over Audrey Hepburn? This list is a joke. Thus in my opinion I feel like Hepburn may have been a better actress than Monroe and trendsetter but deff not more beautiful. Different strokes for diff folks.
Jennifer aniston, Cheryl Cole and Kelly Brook do NOT belong on that list, how ridiculous! Jennifer is cute and pretty, Kelly is sexy, but they are hardly the most beautiful women. Cheryl I cant even speak about it, just so stupid for her to be on there.
.
I def think audrey deserves to be above marilyn, marilyn was not naturally beautiful, she was average but she had sex appeal and knew how to always look her best.
Penelope Cruz should be on this list! She is so beautiful she takes my breath away!
Suuure, Marilyn was average. Dear God.
Im talking about her face Reena, it was average, even her biographers even the woman herself admitted it. She was an average girl with a dream, she was one of the original stars in hollywood to get cosmetic surgery, everything she achieved was not because she was born with super-star looks it was because she set her mind to it. I have always loved mairlyn’s look but NOT because she was some genetic wonder like the VS models for example.
However, if you think marilyns face is so above average that it is shocking to suggest otherwise, I shudder to think what people look like in your neck of the woods. Im picturing that movie, deliverance.
Your comment is highly offensive. How dare you associate my country with the people in that movie?
And for what? For thinking that Marylin was gorgeous???
Ouch! You are mean, girl!! People have different tastes, what is wrong??
@ Snoops,
I agree with Reena – Kindly refrain from making offensive comments in the future.
Umm, she was definitely not average. And before you offend my “neck of the woods” too, my wood is NYC and I am a professional make-up artist (in case you’re thinking I may be fooled by make-up).
well i for one agree with snoops, marilyn is far from beautiful because she wore too much make up and was one of the first who had plastic surgery. so it’s crazy how people say she’s a natural beauty when this woman had surgery to look more “womanly” as people say. dorothy danridge on the other hand is drop dead gorgeous and had class of her own. she should’ve been on the list.
lol, I dont even know/care what country you come from, simmer down
that was at reena, ofc, but hey out of respect for versus I’ll keep my mouth shut on this matter
I disagree with Snoops, I think Marilyn is beautiful facially.
But why is everyone saying Snoops should be more open to different tastes? After all, this whole discussion started because Reena couldn’t handle that somebody considered Marilyn Monroe average. I do believe snoops is entitled to their opinion about Marilyn, just as Reena is entitled to disagree with it, not express bewilderment rudely:
“Suuure, Marilyn was average. Dear God.”
I think it was the bitchy insult that got everyone
so then nkeon its ok for you to call me bitchy? Thats a bit hypocritcal then eh?
And Casey thank you, I may have been a bit rude, but you are always the voice of reason on this site.
snoops, I’m not calling you bitchy personally, I’m saying that the retort you made to Reena about the film Deliverance was pretty bitchy.
You’ve admitted the comment was rude, and I’ve just used bitchy as a synonym for rude. I’m not trying to insult you
Completely, whole heartedly agree! Audery is a well deserved first, don’t you think? I think Elizabeth Taylor should be second.
P.S – I dont really see why Scarlett or Princess Di are on there either if we are talking only about external beauty.
ahaha I agree with you. About Marilyn too!
I do not find Audrey BEAUTIFUL in the actual “how amazing her face looks” kind of way at all. She was very classy, very stylish, she had a look and she was an icon (things I can truly admire in a woman), but facial beauty – NO.
Princess Diana wasn’t beautiful either, but of course, she was amazing and that shined through (which is what matters anyway). Jennifer Aniston is not beautiful in the slightest, but she is charming and so fit. Angelina is “technically” beautiful, but she is on top of “Most Annoying” list by far, so NO.
The only women who are facially gorgeous on that list are Cheryl and Marylin.
Of course, all IMO.
I think that lists like this should encompass women who will be eternally remembered for iconic beauty. Audrey Hepburn, Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe, and Grace Kelly indisputably fall into this classification (whether you personally find them beautiful or not), but with a possible couple exceptions, it is doubtful that the other women on this list will be remembered by future generations for looks. I think that many of these women are simply filler names to the list, classic looking beauties who will never become timeless beauties.
people are apparently incapable of differentiating between beauty, sexinesss and mere prettiness. There should be 3 lists for each of these categories!
Aniston and Cole are no more than pretty (and pretty average at that)
Monroe, Brook, Jolie, sophia Loren = sexy
The likes of Hepburn, Natalie Portman, grace K, Johansson…these women are truly beautiful – possessing timeless grace and poise. Champion’s league!
Umm, in your opinion. I for example think Sophia Loren is beautiful in every sense of the word. And Johansson is sexy at best, not pretty, not beautiful. As for the list, Audrey is simply stunning, that’s enough for me. It is quite surprising though imo that there are both timeless beauties as well as very current celebs (who prob won’t be remebered in these kind of polls for such a long time, compared to Marilyn for example) in the list, i feel it’s usually either or.
completely agree with you about Johansson!
It’s because people are used to using words very loosely, therefore there is not distinction between beautiful, hot/glamorous and pretty. I’ve noticed this…
Audrey #1 – yes. Chezza ahead of Angelina Jolie? No.
Also, I would love to see Doutzen on one of these lists- I know she’s not that famous and that’s probably why, but in my opinion she deserves at least the number 2 and maybe even the number 1 spot!
i only agree about audrey!! the rest not so much, also i’d put some models to the list. and winona ryder, but i guess it’s all about tastes, right?
and penelope cruz
Why do most women find stick thin doe- eyed women beautiful. I am a woman and love to see women with womanly curves! Audrey Hepburn is pretty with a beautiful sprit, but she looks like a child to me.
Grace Kelly should have been ahead of Audrey Hepburn!
Where is Lena Horne, Hedy Lamar, Jayne Kennedy ,Dolores Del Rio,Ida Lupino, and Martine Carol.
That’s a little rude. The women you listed are beautiful, but not everyone has to like what you like.
first of all, Audrey wasn’t stick thin. She actually had strong, muscular legs (like that of a strong and slim ballerina). She’s perceived to be stick thing because most of the women of that time had larger busts and fuller hips than her. She gave and still gives those of us (dancers, long-distance runners, etc.) who are small and sinewy an image to look up to…I love Audrey!
thin, not thing. Sorry about the typo…
Why the hell is Jennifer Aniston on there???!!!! She may be sweet, but aesthetically, no! Beyonce should be on there. Overrrated performer, but gorgeous!
Cheryl Cole???? WTH??? Marylin is, according to me, the most beautiful and sexy woman of all times (except for my wife, of course).
I didn’t know men visited this site.
Completely agree with Audrey Hepburn, Angelina, Grace Kelly, Halle, and Marilyn. I think they should replace Cheryl Cole and Kelly Brook with Elizabeth Taylor and Natalie Portman.
They would be suitable replacements…
i know people will disagree with me but i think megan fox should be somewhere on there. she is very beautiful, though lately she has had some questionable things done. also, elizabeth taylor, “violet eyes”! and maybe adrianna lima
I don’t think Jennifer Aniston deserves a place on the list. I think Megan Fox and Natalie Portman deserve a spot.
I agree with a lot of these.
Audrey is definetly a good choice for number one. Marilyn, Scarlett and Halle, also belong on the list. I wouldn’t have put Kelly on the list..she is sexy but she is not beautiful. Cheryl neither.
Princess Diana and Jennifer Aniston I would put on there even though they’re not classically beautiful. I was watching Friends the other day, and I thought Jennifer Aniston was just so beautiful on it, even though I don’t find her beautiful. It must be about something she projects.
There are others that I would have put on the list, but I guess they haven’t reached enough fame to be considered…people like Gemma Arterton, Amanda Seyfried, Candice Swanepoel, Adriana Lima. Someday!
Lool it’s so random it looks like they asked 2 or 3 people and mixed their opinions all together to create a top10…
I think michelle pfeiffer also deserves a place in this list
I fail to spot a vestigy of pattern on that list!
Beauty stereotypes have changed throughout the century itself, but, since that list was based on personal opinions, I don’t think that was the matter. I guess the voters must have only been asked to point out one favourite beauty, and the results were arranged by popularity.
Oh, well. That seems like a pretty difficult task! However, I’m pretty sure that, out of those 10, the only ones I would have even thought of voting for would be Scarlett and Audrey, who, IMO, deserves the first place.
Oh, Grace too! =)
cheryl who over grace kelly? yeah right.
I’m glad Audey won first place. She is perfection personified.
Cheryl Cole, Kelly Brook, and Jennifer Aniston don’t belong there …
My personal list:
1) Audrey Hepburn
2) Charlotte Casiraghi (look her up, she is BEAUTIFUL)
Grace Kelly
Mila Kunis
Natalie Portman
Jane Birkin
Lauren Bacall
Miranda Kerr
Keira Knightley
Isabel Lucas
Yay! I love Jane Birkin as well!!!
that charlotte lady is beauuutiful! just looked her up lol
Yes, she is breath taking. Versus, you should do a post on her!
I like your list sooo much better! And I love Charlotte.
Yes, Audrey definetely deserves this! I love her soooo much, she is insanely beautiful! I also think Scarlett belongs to the list, but I wouldn´t have named the rest. They are all pretty, but I wouldn´t consider them as the most beautiful.
Jennifer Anniston *removed by admin* ! Girls have weird taste.
Wow. Rude. What’s with all the Jen Aniston hate? While I don’t think she is one of the most beautiful women that ever lived, I DO think she’s very beautiful. Maybe not in a formulaic kind of way, but she has a special something about her.
Actually i think this list is another proof that there really can’t be any list, you just need to read the comments above to understand that. There can be all sorts of lists based on all sorts of criteria and all tastes.
I think the point of lists, if there must be one, is for big firms to have an economic influence and improve their control on the people who just don’t have an opinion of their own and can easily be taught what is beautiful and what isn’t by the media (and there are so many, which represents so many consumers with so much money to spend). It sounds obvious to me, so much that i just felt stupid writing it. But i’m just a nickname here so who cares! eheh
My point is, it is sad that most people don’t have enough personality to develop their very own vision of beauty. I often feel like i’m surrounded by robots, and it just sucks.
(Sorry about the monologue…lol)
Haha, comments on this website often get so catty. I think the result of this poll reflect how difficult it is for women to just rank physical beauty without letting other factors get in the way. All these women are famous and high status because of the likeability, audrey well respected, grace kelly iconic, cheryl cole sweet and popular……there are physically prettier women out there, but few women are as popular in the public eye as these women.
I think if you stood keira knightly next to princess diana, Keira would look worlds better, but she’s not really into playing it up for the public and comes across a little annoying sometimes, vs. Diana who’s a legend.
Audry defineatly deserved this. Her eyes are so beautiful. In my opinion on the list there should be Jennifer lopez as well
I love some of Audrey Hepburn’s movies, but I don’t condone an anorexic being #1 on that list.
She wasn’t anorexic. Check your facts.
yeah, that’s not fair. She starved, as did her whole family, during the war. I read somewhere that her bow-legs are a result of the rickets she had as a child. Something tells me she would never have starved herself voluntarily.
I’m not agreeing with all of this list, I really don’t have a top 10, but included in my list would be: Salma Hayek, Jennifer Connelly (definitely in the early 90′s) Keira Knightley (well more so back when she was in “King Arthur” she’s too skinny now.) Winona Ryder (During her “Heathers” days.) Shakira, Bridget Bardot.
These are just some that crossed my mind, at least if I could look like any woman in the world these would be my choices.
P.S. I totally forgot Mila Kunis! I definitely agree with the person who mentioned her as well.
Oh and another old school one that I can not believe was not even mentioned is RAQUEL WELCH! That women still looks good and she’s in her 70′s. Ok 3 posts I’m done. Lmao.
Well, I definitely believe that Audrey would be the winner.
I’ve never cared for her movies, but I’ve always thought that she was incredibly beautiful and feminine. I’m surprised Marilyn Monroe wasn’t on here, even though I don’t think that she was beautiful.
I don’t agree with some of them like Cheryl Cole for example. (I’ve always thought that she was just “kind of pretty” and not beautiful in an way)
I would take off Scarlett, Jennifer and Cheryl and replace them with Claudia Cardinale, Brigette Bardot and Winona Ryder. My opinon of course. and Aaliyah as well, she was breath taking!
Agree with you on Winona Ryder
I agree with this list for the most part, just not Cheryl Cole, shes beautiful but i don’t think she belongs here. I would have expected Farrah Faucet to be on here though!
I chose to reply to Charlotte’s comment because she is the ONLY poster who included a black woman in her list of beauties.
While the rest of you bicker about whether or not the top 3 women are truly the most beautiful or deserving of such a title, please recognize the lack of diversity in this top 10 as well. Before you cry “But Halle Berry is black!” also note that she has phenotypically “caucasian” features. Where are the Asian women? The Arab women? The black women? The Latinas?
To quote Neonilla: “…it is sad that most people don’t have enough personality to develop their very own vision of beauty. I often feel like i’m surrounded by robots, and it just sucks.” Yeah, it does.
I think we can all agree that this list of beauty is dictated by current social norms and a beautiful woman does not have to personify the English rose, blonde bombshell, or the dark, sultry sexpot (that is so often touted as “exotic” beauty).
Let’s not miss the big picture: ten women cannot begin to capture the extent of beauty this world has seen (or will see) among the female population.
This is just a silly poll, try not to take it so seriously.
Sorry. I’m a sociologist. I can’t even watch a TV commercial without wondering what its social significance is. *shrugs shoulders* What can I say?People are silly creatures. No more dissecting standards of beauty. I promise. =0$
I SO cosign on this statement. You rock, Becca!
Charlotte wasn’t the only one though, I mentioned Iman on my list.
But I do agree with everything else you’re saying here!
You do realize that this poll was done through QVC and that most of their customers are middle class, 50+ women who know very little about current social norms for what is beautiful, right?
Erm, true. But when it comes to beauty, the standard is usually European beauty, 10, 50, or 100 years ago. We’re getting a bit better at celebrating unorthodox concepts of beauty…a bit.
Also, it’s ageist to suggest people over the age of 50+ are not “current.” LOL And looking over the list tells me this sample must be relatively aware of what’s is currently considered beautiful, otherwise Cheryl Cole, Kelly Brooke, ScarJo and others would have been passed over for more traditional icons. As many posters have mentioned, the famed hourglass and dark seductress brings to mind older icons like Raquel Welch and Sophia Loren (not listed) and as for pouty, wide-eyed innocence Bridgette Bardot.
I also DO think that people nowadays use the terms beautiful, pretty, gorgeous, hot and sexy very interchangeably, whereas there was a distinction before…and I say this as someone who was born close to the ’80s.
I didn’t do a list but I did mention Dororthy Dandridge.
I agree with what you say but I think the lack of black, Arab and Latina women on the list is very reflective of their position in the mainstream media.
So true. =0)
I’d also like to add Lauryn Hill and Nneka to my list. Both women are the epitome of a raw black beauty that is rarely seen in the media or elsewhere for that matter. It’s not just their looks but their talent as well. Their music is so soulful.
what happened to sophia lauren???? she was THE bombshell! and what about bridgitte bardot?
Cheryl above Marilyn? lolwut.
Cheryl Cole and Jen Aniston, i do not agree with. and Marilyn should be number one!!!!
I think Cheryl Tweedy is totally beautiful. There is really no flaw in her entire appearance as far as I can tell. It’s weird that girls find her so average looking.
I’m sad Natalie Portman isn’t on the list though. Audrey deserves first place, but Natalie Portman is the absolute most beautiful celebrity of her age in my opinion. She is flawless.
Yes, Natalie would have deserved to be on this list. I would say the same with Doutzen.
What comes to Cheryl, I think she is very, very, beautiful. It is her style what makes her less appealing (tattoos, clothes…), but her FACE is stunning. If Cheryl had been a moviestar in 50´s or so, dressed like Audrey and had this sophisticated, elegant style I think many women would have find her much more beautiful. Because I think her face is one of the most gorgeous on the list.
Audrey deserves the number 1 spot, she’s one of the most beautiful women of all time IMO (at least out of women in the public eye), and she had grace and modesty to boot. I don’t really care as much about the others, though I do think all the women on the list are gorgeous.
well i don’t know too much about audrey but she is pretty, not beautiful. in my opinion, the woman that should be number 1 is dorothy dandridge. she looks better than all the women on the list. marilyn is too overrated and wears make up to make her look beautiful. as a natural beauty i don’t think she has it. angelina is not as beautiful when she was younger, halle is pretty, jennifer is not attractive at all, diana is beautiful and the rest don’t care for. kelly has one hell of a body but her face is not gorgeous but pretty. the point is dorothy should’ve been on that list because what she had to fight for and what she stood for. that right there is beautiful.
Yes! Someone else who recognises Dorothy Dandridge as an ultimate beauty! It wasn’t just her beautiful face and body but her charisma, charm and talent that made her beautiful.
To me beautiful is a combination of outer and inner beauty and it is of course in the eye of the beholder.
you see where i’m coming from. i think no one really knows what she was about because she wasn’t as big as marilyn or audrey. she had to deal with racism because black women back then, if they wanted to be actresses, they had to be the stereotypical maid, mammy, anything to make black women look unattractive. but dorothy changed that and if it wasn’t for her there wouldn’t be halle, angela bassett, jennifer hudson, to name a few. she paved the way for black actresses to have their success without playing roles that hollywood wants them to play. so that’s why i think dorothy should be number 1. not hating on the other women but they don’t do it for me.
I don’t agree with this list.First of all,in my opinion, Jennifer Aniston shouldn’t be on it. She’s far from one of the most beautiful actresses of the past century. Secondly, Cheryl Cole beat Marilyn Monroe? Cheryl is far less attractive! Plus, I honestly don’t think Audrey was all that beautiful, she shouldn’t be number one..
audrey hepburn is perfect. intelligent, glamorous…. marilyn monroe? very overrated.
I think the only one who deserves being on that list is Grace Kelly.
Well I think Megan Fox should have been on there because she has stunning eyes. I probably have completely different taste to nearly everyone on here but I have always thought Golide Hawn was exceptionally beautiful especially back when she was doing movies. So I would have put her on there.
This list is for the past 100 yrs……celebrities from our generation are all quite generic, imo. Audrey, marilyn, grace and princess diana were all very beautiful women inside and out. They just had something special about them that celebrities today can’t compare to.
SOOOOO in agreement with you, though don’t forget Sophia Loren. She had that warm senuality which made her very charming on top of being beautiful!
I think that Elizabeth Taylor is the most beautiful woman in the world.and she isn’t even in the top.don’t you think that she is more beautiful than all the ladyes in this fake top???
What the heck? Cheryl Tweedy is pretty…. but, HUH?! Maybe I just sensitive to this because I’m Arab and East Asian, but, with the exception of Halle Berry, many modern girls on the list are just generic “white girl” pretty. Many Chinese and Indian actresses are more deserving of Aniston’s, Tweedy’s, Brook’s, etc place.
I do agree with Audrey, though. Very beautiful person inside and out.
Exactly, Aishwarya Rai is soooo much better than most of the women on this list!
NO, she’s NOT better than Audrey, Grace, Marilyn, or Diana BY ANY MEANS. As for Halle, Rai doesn’t compare with her either.
Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston and Scarlett Johansson are better than Rai because they have some je ne sais quoi but even they don’t deserve to be on this list. And if they don’t deserve it, she certainly doesn’t; Rai’s more on par with Kelly Brook, Cheryl Cole, and NONE of those women deserve to be on this list at all.
Audery Hepburn is a well deserved first – beautiful facial features. Cheryl Cole, second?! Is it a joke? Cheryl is far from ugly, but she isn’t a beauty. She has a big, humpy nose – look at her from side view – and her teeth were awful before she got famous and had them fixed. Where is Elizabeth Taylor in that list? She had an amazing face, she should be second IMO. And where’s Brigitte Bardot? She had a very unusual, striking face.
who did jennifer aniston bribe off to get on that list. (removed by admin) its like a modeling contest and then ugly betty sneaks in line and tries to fit in.
nice try
Some of the usual suspects. It’s a little more varied than I would have thought.
eva mendes
Where is Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, and Monica Bellucci ??? They should replace Jennifer Aniston, Princess Diana and Cheryl Cole in that list.
Princess Diana should STAY. Jennifer Aniston, Cheryl Cole and Kelly Brook and Scarlett Johansson should go. But, then again, you’re entitled to your opinion…
Jennifer Aniston?! Ugh, she is so over exposed and over rated. over exposed, and plain. Beady eyes, bad chin, but she’s in great shape. People are so fascinated with her getting cheated on, then left, so she gets a lot of press.
here are some women who deserve to be on the list:
1. Elizabeth Taylor
2. Monica Bellucci
3. Beyonce (I find her overrated, annoying and fake sometimes…but I have to admit she has a gorgeous face…even more gorgeous when she’s dressed classy with jet black hair, which is unfortunately rare)
4. Raquel Welch
5. Sofia Loren
6. Angelina Jolie
7. Catherine Zeta Jones
8. Audrey Hepburn
9. Natalie Portman (she was absolutely stunning when she was younger…she’s still very pretty now though…she’s however not one of those types who continue to look stunning and even more sensual and elegant as they reach into their 30′s and beyond…like Monica Bellucci, Sofia Loren, and etc)
10. Sofia Vergara
Yeah — I was also wondering why the hell Sophia Loren was not on this list.
[...] Audrey is the most beautiful woman in the past 100 years and Olivia Wilde is “The Sexiest”… but not according to Maxim or FHM (although that has happened too), but to PETA! The reason? Olivia is one hot vegetarian. [...]
Look up Isabella Adjani, she is a frenh actress and I think deserves to be on that list as well. She’s gorgeous!
She is!
I loved her on Possession, it’s one of the best performances I’ve ever seen.
I think Vivien Leigh and Kristin Kreuk deserve a spot on this list. Although Kristin isn’t as pretty now as she was a few years back.
My list would read:
10.Victoria Lake
9. Elizabeth Taylor
8. Ursula Andress
7. Oluchi Onwegaba
6. Rachel Welsch
5. Sofia Loren
4. Angelina Jolie
3. Bridgette Bardot
2. Milla Jovovich
1. Eva Green
The absolute first is Audrey Hepburn
Cheryl is pretty but she isnt something new or special…. why on earth is she on the list instead of Sofia Loren! or Liz Taylor or Liz Hurley or Monica Bellucci or Natalie Portman or many other….
Thanks for mentioning Elizabeth Taylor — she was GORGEOUS in her prime. And Sophia Loren – stunning as a younger woman and still classic and beautiful today. Can’t argue with Audrey Hepburn either – definitely one of my all-time favorites. Monica Belluci – another beautiful and ageless, and extremely sexy woman. Among the more contemporary beauties, I’d rank Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johannesen, Keira Knightley (reminds me quite a bit of Audrey), and of course last but not least, Ms. Angelina Jolie.
No female with tattoos deserves to be on any Top 10 list whether for a century or this year. Tattoos mar the body and damage any sense of beauty.
Cheryl Cole looks skanky with tats as all females. The way overhyped Angelina Jolie looks a 1000 times worse — a stick figure who looks like biker trash.
Too many people get caught up in the fake personas actresses (and yes, they are not actors, only men are actors) portray in movies.
Everyone can get made to look good in a movie and two dimensional photography done by someone trained can make persons look hot.
Seeing people face-to-face is the only way to know for sure who is beautiful or not.
Audrey Hepburn not beautiful?? WTH?!!? And NO NO NO to Aishwarya Rai, Cheryl Cole, Kelly Brook, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Longoria, Megan Fox, etc.
But this is all subjective…because beauty is subjective and people are entitled to their own opinion. That being said, here’s my list of 10 (Timelessly) Beautiful Females:
1. Audrey Hepurn
2. Grace Kelly
3. Sophia Loren
4. Cate Blanchett
5. Queen Rania
6. Liya Kebede
7. Allegra Kent
8. Mia Wasikowska
9. Christy Turlington
10. Padma Lakshmi (w/o Botox)
And if I could pick 15 more to make it 25 just to be fair (because I had a very hard time choosing between some of these ladies!!) they would be:
11. Natalie Portman
12. Marilyn Monroe
13. Elizabeth Taylor
14. Gabrielle Anwar
15, Kate Winslet
16. Emma Watson
17. Helene Grimaud
18. Emmanuelle Beart
19. Julie Andrews
20. Cindy Crawford
21. Meryl Streep
22. Audrey Tatou
23. Roselyn Sanchez
24. Kathryn Morris
25. Mary Tyler Moore
There definitely are others though I’d have to stop at 50 because it was already increasingly difficult to come up with who I thought were actually beautiful and not merely pretty.
If beauty was measured in height, Mia Wasikowska would be the Empire State Building while the likes of Cheryl Cole, Megan Fox and Kelly Brook would be filthy sewage rats.
Where is Cate Blanchett? :/
#4 in my list, above!
1-Audrey Hepburn
2-Marliyn Monroe
3-Doutzen Kroes
4-Scarlett Johanson
5- Adriana Lima
6- Angelina Jolie
7-Jessica Alba
8- Kim Kardashian
9-Gemma Arterton
10- Megan Fox
WHAT DO U GUYS THINK ?
Natalia Vodianova, Brooke Shields, Adriana Lima, Mila Kunis, Frieda Pinto, Audrey Hepburn, Keri Russell, Liv Tyler, Barbra Palvin, Bar Rafaeli
agree with everyone except for Liv Tyler, Mila Kunis. Bar Refaeli Keri Russel and Barbara Palvin are very, very pretty, but not beautiful.
